      I think Sidney’s role in Scream 6 was the role they gave to Kirby’s character. When Neve wanted money they knew they could call Kirby and she would take whatever amount after the struggles she had just went through personally. I don’t think they did any work on the script after Neve turned it down. Just changed the characters name.

      To top it off they also have the right to do what they please when people express that freedom.
      …but that being said she didn’t seem to say anything that bad. But I just don’t want people to go out there and go (insert social media site) is bad because they don’t like freedom…..when they are a private site and can limit what they want and please and also have to answer to regulations.

      Freedom of speech only applies to the government on public property in a public square. Private companies can make their own decisions about what’s best for their company, including their employees as long as it doesn’t violate civil rights, OSHA and other labor laws. But Free speech has nothing to do with employment with private companies. Do they teach civics in HS anymore?

    Freedom of speech gives you the freedom to say what you want, it doesn’t mean the company that’s hired you for work has to still then continue to work with you. People get it so confused when they spill out freedom of speech. A company/business don’t want publicity like that attached to there work, she has freedom of speech and that’s why she said it the company is then free to keep her or let her go. All I’m trying to say is there’s a difference in freedom of speech and how it’s used and percieved.

    The reasoning for Melissa’s termination is why we should boycott Spyglass. They wrongfully terminated her. Noah Schnapp has been very vocal on his “political views” and still has his job. It’s very clear that this whole situation is much bigger than just the Scream franchise alone. I stand with Melissa Barrera and will NOT be seated for Scream 7. Spyglass should sell the rights because they are DONE.

    • @cooperwolfe5478
      @cooperwolfe5478 9 месяцев назад +6

      That could be a possibility. It would be in some ways more beneficial to just sell the rights to another studio. Now they’ll probably still be hated as a studio, but at least Scream 7 could get made with a clean pair of hands

    • @isaintrovert
      @isaintrovert 9 месяцев назад +3

      @@cooperwolfe5478 exactly, if they sell the rights, they could ride on that money for a bit & work on damage control for the next year. I would advise that they come out with an apology for Melissa & how she was treated as well as an apology for Neve & how they treated her prior to Scream 6. It’s so sad to see what this studio has done to Wes Craven’s legacy. I don’t even think Spyglass should continue being in business personally but if they want to try & continue as a studio, they have to sell the rights & apologize as a start.

    • @isaintrovert
      @isaintrovert 9 месяцев назад +5

      @@barbourbih1274 that’s a great idea as well. As a studio, they shouldn’t dictate what their actors say or do on social media unless it’s harmful to others. If it’s just “politics” then they need to always stay out of it. It can ether lead to massive success, or can blow up in your face so bad you never get your reputation back. And most times it would ruin the reputation of celebrities (although I'll admit, it worked for some such as Ronald Reagan who still managed to stay beloved when getting into politics/global issues) nevertheless with movies and film, respect all opinions, whether you like them or not.

    I think the reasons why her comments were taken as offensive and why she was let go are because 1) she described Israel as committing "genocide", and 2) she claimed that for Israel, it's about money.
    The suggestion that Jews are money-hungry is an old antisemitic slur, so perhaps people took it to be a reference to that (whether she intended it that way).
    Jews were victims of genocide at the hands of Nazi Germany, which resulted in the deaths of six million people. Many of the survivors moved to the newly-established modern state of Israel after the Nazis were defeated, so it's a bold claim to accuse the world's sole Jewish state of genocide - the very thing these people and their families suffered.

    I wish we had no Scream VII at all and that's coming from a huge Scream fan. I love Sidney but I'm fine with 5 being her last movie. If there's a 7th movie and she returns, I would be curious to see that story but the whole situation regarding Melissa and Jenna's firing would make me hesitate to watch the movie. Melissa did nothing wrong and should be supported

    While this whole situation sucks, I will say I am happy to see the overwhelming support from fans. I am wholly against cancel culture and the "guilty until proven innocent" mindset that has plagued the public domain for what seems like decades now, so the recent cases of fan backlash making waves has been pretty refreshing. Melissa is not the first to suffer from this type of thing, but I'm happy to see her case as representive of a shift in the culture of fan bases.
    Of course, this comes from a place of not knowing the full story so it's possible I could end up eating my own words, but my sentiment still remains.

    • @Seroxm13

      This is not cancel culture. Cancel culture is when we the people, the fans, the consumers, cancel someone for valid reasons & most of the time they deserve it when we boycott them. This is a company cancelling her, when she did nothing wrong.
      I get companies having the freedom to fire whoever they want for valid reasons (not abuse of power/discrimination), like I'm all for firing racists, bigots, rapists, murderers, bad people in general. But someone for being against genocide & war, really? I love Israel and Jews, but I do not agree with what their goverment and military is doing to Palestine. It's just plain wrong to bomb and kill so many innocent people, just because a terrorist group from there killed hundreds of innocent people in your country. You're doing the same and worse, because you're killing even more innocent people and you're supposed to be the "good guys/military/govt" unlike the Hamas, which we all know are bad guys. Palestine barely have any power or military power, why are they going so tough on them? Sometimes I think to myself if Israel did this to themsevles (same way some think Bush did 9/11), so they could have an excuse to invade/bomb Palestine, take full control of it and make it Israel.
      I just want peace for both countries. Hopefully, the people of Palestine condemn Hamas. But sadly, many innocent Palestine kids and adults will grow with hate towards Israel for all they are doing to them...

    Cody, she said quite clearly in one of her bigger posts, something that is a dog whistle about a Jewish trope and is widely considered antisemitic. I don't personally think she meant it that way, but she still said it. This is why forever now I've said, if you are a celebrity or have any kind of following online, do not post stuff like this on social media. Keep it in your personal circle or if you do post it online, don't use that kind of language etc.

  • @GrandpaDoesMovies1

    She said more than calling for a cease fire. News outlets like the BBC have reported:
    "The star has posted regularly about the Israel-Gaza conflict, including resharing one post that accused Israel of "genocide and ethnic cleansing".
    Other posts shared by Barrera in recent weeks have included one about distorting the Holocaust "to boost the Israeli arms industry" and another saying Gaza was "currently being treated like a concentration camp".
    Spyglass was correct for the action they took.
    Spyglass said in a statement that its position “is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
    She is free to express whatever opinions she has. But as those on the left love to say, words and actions have consequences.

    While I like the idea of Neve coming back I am against it. I do think it’s interesting because she hasn’t been afraid of Ghost Face for years but with her husband and children in the picture now, this could bring back Sidney having that real fear of Ghost Face again. BUT as a person with pride, I don’t think she should come back. Spyglass got way too cocky with themselves - they undervalued her, had two young beautiful stars - and were on top of the world. Now, they ruined it and want to crawl back to Neve after they undervalued her and tried to throw her to the side. Idc what amount of money they offer her, I HOPE she doesn’t come back at all. They should be ashamed of themselves. They treated the OG final girl wrong and now wanted to fire someone for literally saying stop killing innocent people and children? I really hope they lose all support and realize how wrong they are with all these idiotic decisions they’re making.

    In regards to her firing, she brought it upon herself. You can say whatever you want, but a private company has the right to do as it wishes. Also, we dont know if maybe they told her to cease and desist with this.
    With scream 6 it didn’t make sense to bring Sid into it. Being it took place in New York plus she is a wife and has kids why leave California to help catch/kill the killers who want nothing to do with you on the other side of the country?

    I personally doubt that Neve would return since she has spoken about the higher-ups at the studio who only care about money. The fact they immediately released in the press that they hope Neve will return shortly after Melissa's firing and Jenna quitting actually disgusted me. You don't want to pay the main character of this franchise since 1996 what she's worth until you're out of options and you need to backtrack? If she does not return, I feel like if I were in charge at the studio, the only decision I feel that would be wise is to sell the rights. In this day and age, people don't forget, and they've managed to make a lot of people angry with this. My interest in the next installment has plummeted in such a short amount of time, and I'm a lifelong fan of this series. The dumb thing would be for them to remain in denial, double down, and continue with 7 full steam ahead. I also recognize that this series has been one of the more consistent ones in quality, and it would be such a shame for them to go through with something that was less than what the fans deserve.

    As a 27 year fan of this franchise, all I can do as a fan is say fuck it. Let's just see what happens. I'm no Roger Ebert(RIP). But I can sat that this the most well protected franchise in all of cinema. As a hard-core fan, I went into Scream 3 back in 2000 knowing Kevin Williamson didn't write it and had a good time. Went into Scream 6 with the Neve controversy and I personally thought it was the best one since the 2nd entry. While I couldn't wait to see where the Carpenter saga would've went, I'm sure Spyglass knows how protected this series is and they'll gut out a decent entry. Cauals won't care.

    As an Israeli, it sucked to hear Melisa and Gena’s opinions, very offensive.. as a scream fan and a fan of the characters of Sam and Tara and their story arc and a fan of how well they carried the franchise in the last 2 movies, it sucks that we got here ..
    As for Sid, I was totally on board with passing of the torch and the way it was done, I was against bringing Sid and Gale for that matter to 6 so even though it was due to the money issue, I was happy that Sid wasn’t in it which i think was the right thing to do and I wished it had been the decision to begin with, and while Gale had an awesome scene, one of the best of the franchise, they could’ve left her out too, scream 5 gave them both what could’ve been a great send off
    So I don’t want them to bring back Sid especially not as the lead because it would be going backwards and dragging this along and along, you have to know where to stop , because as much as it’s good, if you keep dragging this along, eventually it will be ruined
    Clearly new characters and a new story is also out of the question, and since as you pointed out and I agree, Sam and Tara are the middle of an ark so the best option under this circumstance is recast, something I’ve never been a fan of, and in this case it’s very problematic because it’s not a secondary character , it’s a lead, and 2 leads even so I guess my opinion is shut it down, not to this movie at all and let 6 be the ending

Melissa didn’t do anything wrong - in my opinion - and it’s just a damn shame that Spyglass jumped the gun by firing her instead of taking a step back and leaving all the political statements as just a personal view. We have watched so many movies and TV shows where some actors have had questionable behaviors or done some questionable things, yet this production company decided to fire Melissa simply because she asked for a ceasefire? It’s just ridiculous. I think I’m done with the Scream franchise. It was good while it lasted and I guess that’s that.

    Firstly, I think it’s stupid to fire someone over their social media posts about their own personal beliefs and opinions. It was wrong when they did it to Gina Carano, and they’re wrong for doing it to Melissa Barrera. Now, as far as the movie side of things, I didn’t like Scream 5 and really didn’t like Scream 6. Largely because the characters and storyline’s they brought in to replace everything Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson built were lackluster, to say the least. Also, I find it funny that there’s a petition to boycott Spyglass over the firing and mistreatment of Melissa, but I don’t seem to remember there being a petition when Neve Campbell was mistreated and forced out by Spyglass. Hypocrisy is a fickle thing in today’s day and age. As far as I’m concerned, Scream is synonymous with Sidney Prescott, Craven, and Williamson. If you don’t have them, you don’t have Scream. Just a bland imitation, such is the case with 5 and 6.
