Scream 6 made me appreciate how ballsy Scream 2 was to actually really kill Randy. If it was made today he would of have been stabbed 400 times and still live.
The plot armor on some of the characters were insane! Some one gets stabbed like 10 times and still survives which makes it unrealistic. I still liked the movie but I do have issues with it
Someone could be stabbed 10 times and live. It would make more sense if the stabbing was a little messy. Like in real life some cuts will be deep but majority don’t go deep due to the frantic throwing of the knife. But in this every stab sounds deep and gutty. 😂
@@RueRyuzaki6 Was the slenderman girl stabbed in the neck twice, in the chest twice and then in the stomach twice by two grown men (not two weak little girls) like in this movie? Also, going by your logic, someone in the movie literally gets stabbed less and dies so they don't even keep up with the logic that they established.
I agree with you pretty much exactly Cody... I literally just told someone at work today that Scream 6 was amazing until the last half hour... it was the weakest reveal and the whole third act I was like uhhhh what? And I also audibly went "NO WAY" in the theater after a certain character was revealed to be alive.
I agree. I had two main issues with this movie. There's absolutely no way that nobody saw what happened on the train lol. I mean sure the lights were acting weird, he covered the mouth, and the ppl were sleeping or whatever but it was a stretch. I was like cmooon. And then the last 20-30 minutes just could've been so much better. But everything else i really really really enjoyed!
@@fans-ed1td Cliches are nothing new to the franchise and have been there since the beginning. Scream is different because it finds a way to either comment on or subvert those genre conventions. The first film had Sidney running up the stairs when she could have escaped through the door, Billy coming back to life, characters who were presumed dead returning, and so on. However, I agree this pushes the believability factor a little too far in a few instances.
@politefan8141 To be fair, Sidney did try to leave through the front door but the chain lock was on and she couldn't open it, and had to dodge the knife coming at her head. So upstairs was the only place she could go.
I know exactly which reveal made you audibly gasp and I did too lol. I understand implementing SOME plot armor for the two main characters but they took it too far. Not only does every single main character get stabbed in vital organs, but they all survive and act virtually unaffected. Especially the one you are alluding to in which the character is literally stabbed 50 or so times and survives
This is why you're one of the best movie reviewers on RUclips. You say what you honestly believe and articulate your thoughts very well. You have an opinion and back it up, and also are able to see other people's perspectives and respect them.
@CodyLeachYT lol.. I responded to the guy saying you're not the best movie reviewer even though when you like or dislike something you are very nuanced in explaining why. You don't just say "this was trash" and move on
@@TwiStedReality1313 because if he just said “this is trash” the review would be like a minute long and not interesting. Its nice to hear all the thoughts of someone when they are reviewing a film
@Cody Leach I'm sorry but I completely disagree with you! For me, it's the best Scream movie! The plot twist was genius, it did not feel like that someone took over the writing, and I thought all the characters were fantastic!
I totally agree with you about the Scream franchise being the most consistent quality wise. When Scream 3 is your worst film ( which I find to still be a decent movie), they’re doing something right.
The reveal in Scream 2 worked well because it was connected to Billy Loomis. Not to mention the reference to Pamela Voorhees. It didn’t work here because it was connected to a character that we don’t really care about. They really did make a requel sequel, but it was underwhelming.
So a random journalist lady is way better? Dont get me wrong I enjoyed her performance and motive but the reveal was equally as weak for me. I mean Gale being the journalist she was, wouldnt she have seen Billy's mom before? If she was so sure Cotton was being framed wouldnt she have thought of possible other suspects, one being Billy's mom? She didnt do it but still would have been a suspect and Gale for sure would have seen a picture of her so her not recognizing the mother throughout multiple run ins with her made it a stretch for me
This and one particular stab fest that ended up with the victim literally walking out was amazing. Like so much of the movie was stupid but really fun.
The way that Ghostface taunted her made me think Stu was one of the killers, but they pretty much hinted or at least poked fun of him possibly coming back.
I laughed out loud when detective Bailey said that he swapped Quinn‘s body at the crime scene. Which meant he had to go to the crime scene, go through the charade that she was dead, and then, when no one was looking, walked back to his car, grab a dead body that looked like Quinn, drag it all the way up to the apartment, and do all that without being seen by anybody.
Loved the movie and totally enjoyed it. Yes the ending was kinda over the top with the plot armor but ghostface was relentless, the ny environment & halloween vibes was dope.
Genuinely amazing throughout the first two thirds but the reveals sort of let me down. I didn’t hate the ending but it’s certainly some of the weaker antagonists we’ve gotten.
What Cody said about the requel sequel thing they did in the movie was spot on. How many requel sequels have been made? Like 4 and none of them have something in common with each other so the rules don’t even make any sense at all
The final act was sloppy and the killers were dorks (and obvious) but I loved pretty much everything before that. Significantly better than Scream 2022 in my opinion. Need a 2nd viewing but it's my favorite sequel as of right now
These new sequels don't touch Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4 IMO. But this movie is better than the previous one based on the strong 2 acts alone, 3rd act was not good.
I can absolutely believe he guessed the killer's identity at the start - I have not seen the film yet, but I did the same with Scream 4. I knew who the killer was after 10 minutes because I thought about it from a writer's point of view regarding what they might try to do, and that's exactly how it played out.
For me when it comes to 6's killers, the scene where they go over the rules is what gave away the killers. The ones that were the killers were way too offended when accused, and they got REALLY defensive. Plus they did the most finger pointing to direct the attention away from them.
The only thing that really pisses me off is the fact that almost every shot is accompanied by the shooter saying "Hey" instead of shooting right away just for the other person to dodge the bullet.
This was a pretty solid film in this series despite some small little issues, but I definitely enjoyed Scream 6 for what we got. Don't mind what they do with Kirby here.
Bro! He nailed the review! Especially when be said that he was telling himself like damn " could this be a great sequel" and then they started with the Plot Armor with keeping everyone alive and it just died for me for the last 20 mins
I pretty much agree with everything you said. Despite its issues, this might be my favorite scream sequel because the first 2 acts were just so damn good. My biggest problem was how many characters survived… especially THAT character that got turned into Swiss cheese as you said. That was absolutely ridiculous.
@@chazharris Yeah but the way Dewey got stabbed in 2 (for whatever reason I can't remember how bad his attack was in the movie), he definitely should've died in that scene
The ending makes me wish we’d gotten whatever the movie would have been, before the title card. The film geeks had potential and I actually really like that whole opening sequence. My biggest pet peeve is the killers can’t possibly get away with it. The misdirects for the audience, specifically the apartment one, basically guarantee it.
Glad it wasn’t just me that couldn’t stop rolling my eyes at the last half hour. It really spoilt it for me and took it from a scream to a meh. Also got some ideas what they’ll do for 7 too. But methinks that’ll be the final one
I mean, getting stabbed multiple times where you coughing up blood? No big deal, you'll be fine...... Get stabbed in the stomach? Meh......get some stitches, and put a band aid on it.
Also got to say loved how the New York setting was treated I do feel a little more could’ve been used like a chase sequence in the middle of the street since no one would pay any mind to it keeping it with the feel just cause it’s in public don’t mean you’re safe. I definitely thought this was genuinely a scary movie scream 5 didn’t scream at all but this movie holy shit I screamed sm cause it doesn’t give you a break to breathe and I really liked that. It was so tense with the chase sequences or the other sequences in the store or ladder. I really want to know what setting scream 7 will have since we know this was an homage to scream 2 but scream 7 I doubt is going to Hollywood and not woodsboro either nor will be a homage to scream 3 so that’s really exciting. I also felt not having Sidney actually worked in the movies favor like I love Neve as Sidney but the reason why the character didn’t show up made sm sense. Obviously if she did show up it would’ve been nice but I knew fs that Kirby, Gale, and Tara would fill in the void of no Sidney.
For me the ‘Randy scene’ in this and scream 5 don’t work because of the context. In the original films, Randy is using his knowledge of horror films to help catch the killer, so he explains the rules to Duey to help, or when asked a direct question. Mindy to me it seems is just bragging about her knowledge of horror movies and who she thinks will die or who she thinks is the killer.
I liked the movie but I really like how you brought up the plot armor. Got people being filleted then getting up and doing cartwheels and back flips. I said out loud “yeah right”. Loved the film, but I have my issues with it
I couldn’t agree more with this review. My biggest contention with this movie is the fact that characters could get shot and brutally stabbed multiple times yet still survive. You can’t go out of your way to tell us that no one is safe, the stakes are high, and anyone can get killed but continue to give them unreasonable plot armor. I also completely agree with you about the third act and DM’s acting. I actually laughed when he delivered some lines and expressions because it was that bad. Now having said that I generally had a great time with this movie and thought it was a huge improvement from the last one. Its a 7/10 for me
Thank you for being so honest and pointing out these ridiculous parts. I have never rooted so much for the killer because of how stupid these victims were.
That's the main problem I had with the film as well Cody. While it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the movie, but I did starting saying to myself, 'That's impossible. There's no way that person should still be alive'.
I agree with you about the third act and the unmasking of the killers after the reveal I was just waiting for the credits to start, but I still enjoyed the movie as a whole.
Great review as always Cody, yeah, completely agree with you on the killer reveal, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so underwhelmed with a killer reveal in a scream movie before
It was a fun movie! But that Subway scene was overall just pointless. They had her cornered, she should've been dead. Then Ghostface no.2 jumps in to save her? Why did they even attempt the kill?
Those were good scenes but one had GF being taken out by a shelf. One had a character that I cared nothing about and her girlfriend never mentioned her again. The last one showed a person get stabbed and the 20 minutes later running around without any problems.
I actually said "bullshit" out loud in the theatre when that guy you mentioned turned up alive at the end. Other than that, another really good sequel.
I swear to god I was on cloud 9 the entire time. This movie was so freaking good until those masks come off and I was just as stunned. It was sooo damn close being my 2nd favorite scream movie. Such a waist. Will definitely rewatch many more time before I ever see scream 5 again
I really liked this movie sm from the creative opening, this time the gore was actually present this time with 3 kills specifically, the core 4 were so good cause I wasn’t sold on Mindy and Sam in 5 but I really liked them now. I have to disagree with you on the new characters I liked them a lot more than the characters that died in 5. I really felt sad for a couple of their deaths specifically the ladder sequence. I clocked the identity of ghostface easily except one which did make me question if I was right cause I was like “If this person is ghostface are they really crazy enough to kill that person in particular” so when that character was revealed I was like “I knew it, I knew it, holy shit what”. I liked the third act for a couple of reasons one being the setting since it’s not at a house it’s in that ghostface shrine so different, there were definitely moments where I was like “Why didn’t you finish them off right there” like yeah I’m sure it was to give the killers more screentime to show them off, Dermot Mulroney I didn’t have a problem with but I will agree there were moments in his acting where I was like “That’s really weird and kinda cringey”. The Dewey treatment was at its strongest this movie and best believe while I can agree to the sentiment that it does take away the stakes at least during rewatch a first time viewing it makes you feel things but I am happy the character survives to see them in 7. Overall I was very satisfied and I do need to watch it again cause I am riding on hype energy too but I really liked this one it’s currently my third fav scream movie behind the original and scream 2.
Enjoyed the video Cody! I personally loved the movie, and could forgive it for the stabby stabs not being affective just because it was that entertaining the whole runtime. To me, it's my favorite sequel.
I cannot wait to watch this movie again, because it was so fun and tense! While I do agree that it has one of the weaker final acts in the series, what came before was so glorious and entertaining that even though it didn't quite stick the landing, I currently have it penciled in as my 3rd favorite Scream movie (though this won't be finalized until at least 2 re-watches).
@@feeling_alright187 I don't drink wine, but next time I see it, I'll try holding my pinky out when I sip my Dr. Pepper. Not sure how that will enhance my enjoyment of the film, but I'll give it a shot. 😏
This movie made me really enjoy Sam as a final girl. She's the same badass characteristics as Sidney, as both will kill when they need to. But Sam seems to actually enjoy killing, even if she tries to convince herself that she doesn't
I hated sam in the first film. I now love her. She was awesome. Complete 180. She felt dead in 5. She had better material this time and she felt alive if that makes sense
@@ENT8801 totally agree with you while I didn’t hate her I felt she wasn’t giving what a new lead should be I mean obviously she’s not on the same league as Sidney and never will cause Sidney is the mf queen but Sam was sm better in this movie I resonated with her character in 6 more than 5. She was pretty badass too like girl was just killing it (literally).
@@ENT8801 I felt what they were going for in the first act of 5 was a sort of repressed, emotionally-detached thing. Like she's doing her best to keep it cool. She did seem more, well... "alive" when she got in touch with her inner final girl/killer towards the end.
I don’t mind characters being stabbed once or twice, presumed dead and then end up ok at the end. But the pure volume of stabbing these survivors endured is a a bit much. Still enjoy immensely every Scream film!
I agree Cody, when the killers were reveled. I couldn’t…..just take them seriously. I started to roll my eyes. It was nice to see them get a taste of their own medicine though. Idk if it was the acting or what the hell was going on. It kinda took me outta it.
@@kiaadams104 Seriously. Up until that point, the new Ghostface almost looked like he had training with the way he was taking down some people, and he seemed stronger than previous version. So when it turned out to be a twink and his sister, I was like “huhhhhh?”
Did it bother anyone else that ghostface could've been neutralize like 3 different times if they just kept hitting him? Also it feels like nobody checked a pulse in this film. There is seriously a problem that people get fucked up and nobody bothers to check up on their so called friends ..lol
I'm also tired of them using being meta as a sort of crutch to hide their lack of creativity, this movie was pretty much Scream 2, takes place while the characters are at college (Randy's niece points that out during her meta rant), Killers are revealed to be relatives of the previous killer, and the final act is in a theater.
I have so much more respect for movies that commit 100% with their choices/kills and miss than a movie that “kills” a character only to bring them back as alive and kicking. Nothing more frustrating as an audience member to see. Still, had a great time watching most of this even if I didn’t enjoy the ending at all. The movie theater was packed tonight and it felt like old times supporting horror movies. Maybe they’ll stick the landing with the next installment?
You’re right Cody, it completely went of the rails towards the end, I like the new setting and it’s visually interesting. It just got really silly towards the end, again thanks for the great content
The ending was out of place for the ghostface we were watching for an hour and a half. It felt like they made a badass ghost face but didn't know how to land the plane so they reverted back to their formula
Also fun fact Roman Bridger is not the known brother of Sidney Prescott! I mean he is but the world doesn’t know it. I actually don’t know if she ever told anyone. Kirby saying a director went crazy or something. If his identity was revealed that’s what he’d be known for.
I also thought it was funny that Quinn said that she was the one that attacked Gail. Which meant that she a 5 foot two, 100 pound college age girl was able to overtake and kill Gail’s boyfriend who was at least 62 and 210 pounds.and not only that she was able to throw his dead body across the apartment. I literally rolled my eyes.
i love that cody doesnt sit here sugar coat everything he tells us how he actually feels watching movies, i kept hearing that this was gonna be the best scream sequel or the one of best and dont get me wrong it was a solid sequel but i totally agree the ending fell off for me as well, also wasnt a fan of the horror geekiness in this movie it really felt forced to me iv never felt so gross about being a horror fan in some of those scenes. Kirby does an insanely good job in the 4th movie but as her comeback movie this was pretty disappointing to me.
I’ve been a fan of Scream since I was a kid. I often times say that it’s the one that turned me into a horror fan. I honestly love that Kirby has become one of the legacy characters whereas that hadn’t happened in this franchise. New characters have always been used as cannon fodder. So that’s nice to see.
It's true Scream 6 does go off the rails a bit during the last sequence. It changes from a darker serious tone to a cheesy Fast & Furious movie by the end. That being it's still one of the most shocking and epic reveals we've seen yet. There was a large collective gasp in our theatre when it finally happened. Like a "wow I never thought they'd go there" type of moment. The motive itself was a stretch (and more corny then scary) but how it all came together was pretty entertaining. It was right in your face the whole time and a ballsy direction to go.
To each their own, after the movie pretty much everyone in my theater was saying how underwhelming it was. And I thought the reveals were the worst of all the movies, and that's with having correctly guessed both killers in 5.. the kills were pretty good at least
@@ELMachismo I think because of how inconsequential it is in a movie that was advertised like it would have a bigger impact on the series in its entirety.
@@ELMachismoour theatre wasn't like that at all like almost the opposite. The motive itself was one of the worst (not thee worst in my opinion) but the reveal sequence leading up to it and the action after is what people liked more. Not everybody were hardcore fans however it varied a lot, many young people who likely started with Scream 5. It was more the fun ride you experience before and after which was a step up from other Screams in the past. Totally a matter of opinion though like you said, for anyone who saw it differently you totally get it as well.
@@AdvanceWebSolutions ****SPOILERS for who hasn't watched**** that's awesome they enjoyed it. I agree w/the motives, it was too much of a Scream 2 repeat (tho obviously that's what they wanted). I was into the sequences leading to the reveals, but once they unmasked it was just like wtf. I heard a lot of laughter at supposed serious parts (mainly from the cop's atrocious acting, ppl making dumb decisions, and heavy duty plot armor).. Like I said, I still enjoyed it, just had more issues with it than any of the others (nostalgia is really helping Scream 3 in that department)
The plot armour was similar in Scream 5. In the last act, people get shot and stabbed multiple times, and still survive at the end. Hell, in the intro Tara gets stabbed 7 times with a big ass knife, her leg broken, and still survives and walks around a couple of days later.
@@niklasky5040 both. You said the plot armor (in this movie) is similar in 5. I assume you meant 5, but idk if she gets stabbed in the beginning of this one lol
I love this channel- Keep being you Cody. You’re just gonna keep blowing up , don’t sell out and praise every movie and upsell us like every other movie channel that hits big
Respect for being honest. You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. I refrained from telling people how I liked the movie without letting it settle for a day. But everything you said is exactly what I felt when I walked out of there. It’s not a bad movie at all but I left the theater definitely a little disappointed. I do think that a big part of it is that we did get the movie so soon after Scream 5. It’s almost like they didn’t have too much to say that was different from 5. Part of the allure of the scream franchise is the commentary on the ever changing landscape of horror movies and maybe there just wasn’t enough to say yet. And I think that shows to be true with the third act and the reveal. It’s almost like there was no true footing on what they wanted to comment on. It was a whodunnit without a solid horror movie commentary element. You didn’t get that satisfying “ah-ha” at the end. I felt like maybe I missed something so I’m gonna rewatch it but the commentary aspect felt pretty weak.
Fantastic review. Just got home from seeing this and agree with you on every point. It was going so well until it went careening off the tracks in the final act. Such a shame, but even with it's faults it's not a bad movie.
100% spot on. So easy to call these reveals. 6 jumped the shark for me. The whole revenge plot fell super flat. Gosh I wish they actually did 5 and 6 proper.
I figured it out when the red head said “when my brother passed my dad moved here to become cop”. But they did a decent job of trying to change my mind. It’s become more about how well of job they do trying to prove me wrong at this point. I did have those “maybe it’s not this person” moments.
I was totally able to forgive the mistakes because it was an enjoyable slasher despite the flaws. It helped get the bad taste of Halloween Ends out. Can’t believe a Scream sequel was more enjoyable than a Halloween sequel, but here we are
The opening is freaking awesome! It's a solid flick throughout...up until the ending. The reveal made sense but the killers just felt like nothing characters. It also kinda just races to the finish line. Scream has always had excellent 3rd acts, so that's why it's more disappointing in this film. Definitely not a bad movie at all. Just disappointing given the quality of every other film
The quality of the third act reveal has been equally bad consistent between 5 and 6 in my opinion. These new directors haven't been able to get that right.
@@datnigga. some of the kills were amazing, the first half/two thirds were really good in my opinion. I do think they saved a couple characters who would realistically be dead but it is a scream movie. I’d say 8/10, not as good as the original but might be my favorite sequel.
i liked the final act tbh hearing famous quotes from the other movies in the background and sam getting more visions of billy i found all that stuff cool.
This is the review I have been most anticipated in. I watched the movie and was like "Cody, ain't gonna like this. Oh Cody is gonna be pissed" Solid though. Overall.
I felt exactly this. Maybe it's our age lol the killers were so obvious! And I felt robbed of some great death scenes that were subsequently undone minutes later
I had a lot of fun, my theater was also pretty rowdy and full, so that could be why. I agree with you overall though, the third act really started going off the rails. The killers’ performances were weak (especially the ringleader, like you said, wtf was that?) but a part of me understood their motivations. I just think that particular motivation (unresolved grief) was done much better in Scream 2. Also, I wish they would’ve utilized Kirby a little better, but the jokes Gale would make about her had me cracking up (I was 16 when Scream 4 came out, now pushing 30 myself). Really made me feel my age 😅 I think the opening might be the best since the OG, though.
I definitely agree with the meta commentary being way too over the top on this one, that scene stood out to me in a real bad way. I also VERY much agree on third act and Ghostface - the reveal, the motivation, everything about it, once it gets there, the movie falls off. I loved the opening, I thought it was really well done and interesting, and appreciated that it was subverting our expectations. There was a moment where the thing that always happens didn't happen, and I was like, "oh, okay! cool!" But the negatives far outweigh the positives for me on this one. Scream, overall, is still a stronger more consistent franchise, but this one is really showing its weakness. And I don't find the Core 4 as interesting or endearing as much as other people do. I pretty much only like Chad, lol. This is definitely my least favourite of the series at this point.
I totally agree, this movie was so disappointing. It was such an easy guess especially if you look at as 5&6 reboots of the originals, it's the exact same patterns. The kills were good - but finding out who did it bothered me, I liked that Jill was more conflicting because she was close to Sydney. I feel like a better killer would have been someone related to Derek, would mean you'd have to bring Sydney back, but how interesting would it be to have a killer with a more sympathetic motivation, someone seeking revenge for their loved one, who was a truly good person and who is just destroyed by grief? Derek loving Sydney got him killed, and Mickey convinced Sydney to not untie him, could you imagine finding that out as a family member? I feel like a conflicted Ghostface would be a really cool new direction, someone who maybe starts to doubt what they've done. This one suckeddddd.
Completely strongly agree on a few key things you said. Yes, Durmot Mulroney was in a different movie. Lol the movie was great in fact I feel the best since the second...but that end. Wow. The worst in the series. And I also figured out that killer quick in the movie and never had the feeling I might be wrong.
LOL 😂 This review was so fucking on point! 🙌🏼 I’m laughing so many times, during many of your reviews. As in WITH you, not at you. There’s so much more to being a reviewer than just “saying stuff”. I really love your style, Cody. Your way of expressing your thoughts, even down to how your subtle facial expressions can say a lot. It’s all very impactful and truly drives your points home. You communicate extremely well, and I commend you for that 🤗 Just one example was you discussing the Gale scene, with her being inside of the walk-in closet. So on point 👌🤣 Thanks for your work, man! 💪
I always appreciate Cody staying true to his thoughts/opinions no matter what the masses are saying....I had so many issues with this movie and I knew Cody would give credit where it’s due and give constructive criticisms
i think they were also going for the new wave of “corrupt law enforcement” / family thing (again) which i like cause its a new type of motive you could say. also dont see where the “it has to leave woodsboro” debate. cause i remember 1 was in woodsboro california, 2 left woodsboro and went to windsor college in ohio, 2 went back to california but is rooted in hollywood with woodsboro as a sound stage, 4 and 5 went to woodsboro but it fits considering the time gap between the films. it really wouldnt make sense to do a time jump as well as an entire new setting then to explain how all of our characters ended up there over 10 plus years when they can bring it back to where it started and do what they did by completing the woodboro story with 5 and moving to New York.
it was a great movie and had a huge plot twist at the end.. my only gripe is they cut away from a few kills.. like the shotgun kill you dont see nothing gory like the other kills. also theres 3 ghostfaces this time. wont say nothing more
Dude you literally have my exact thoughts on the film lol couldn’t agree more. I was so with the film until that final act and then it just goes Scary Movie level parody! The acting from the cop was so bad as well lol
Definitely worth a watch. Your review was spot on. Although maybe I'm one of those old heads but it was probably my least favorite of the series. The dialog felt forced. The Killer reveal didn't blow me away at all. It was just an average slasher film in my opinion. Was hoping for more. Would love a Scream 7 where Stu and Melissa are the killers. But its not revealed until like the end of Scream 8. Break the trend. It would be iconic.
I feel that Wes seemed to come at it from being a father of probably teenagers and his experiences with the people that age as a professor so the characters felt more real. It's like it went from personal to product, really good product but sans the Heisenberg/Wes touch.
But keep in mind, like for me, I was an adolescent the first Scream. Now I'm like just shy of old enough to be this groups parent. How likely am I to relate to them? Especially when you barely had cell phones in first and now every little thing you do is both recorded and fabricated. I think 6 is the nightmare of 4. If only Jill knew she didn't have to even play innocent but also not really be guilty to get that fame she wanted today.
Omg Cody Thankyou finally someone who agrees with me , I hated the ghostface reveal and everything after that ! It just didn’t do it for me. Everything before I really liked and enjoyed. Still a great movie overall. Great review man 👌🏼

I did that for multiple characters in this to be honest.
I appreciate that!
This was the worst movie I have ever seen !
I totally agree with you about the Scream franchise being the most consistent quality wise. When Scream 3 is your worst film ( which I find to still be a decent movie), they’re doing something right.
I enjoy them all, but I would say Evil Dead is definitely more consistent tho.
Scream 5 was the worst one.
3 was so, so, so bad…
5 was the worst one
3 and 4 were flat out boring the 5th was only slightly better and the 6th was actually decent
The reveal in Scream 2 worked well because it was connected to Billy Loomis. Not to mention the reference to Pamela Voorhees. It didn’t work here because it was connected to a character that we don’t really care about. They really did make a requel sequel, but it was underwhelming.
VERY
So a random journalist lady is way better? Dont get me wrong I enjoyed her performance and motive but the reveal was equally as weak for me. I mean Gale being the journalist she was, wouldnt she have seen Billy's mom before? If she was so sure Cotton was being framed wouldnt she have thought of possible other suspects, one being Billy's mom? She didnt do it but still would have been a suspect and Gale for sure would have seen a picture of her so her not recognizing the mother throughout multiple run ins with her made it a stretch for me
@@francissmith7707 Yeah, it all worked for me. Everything you just said has an answer for it. Scream 6 has so many holes, I call it Swiss Cheese 6.
@@francissmith7707 Yup. A random journalist was better.
The part where he ran towards Sam with the gun😂
I THOUGHT I WAS SEEING THINGS!!!!!! 😂
Oh christ that was so ridiculous!
This and one particular stab fest that ended up with the victim literally walking out was amazing. Like so much of the movie was stupid but really fun.
@@CodyLeachYT VERY
Perfectly said!!!!!
I think Gale had one of the best scenes in the entire movie. It was definitely the best conversation with Ghost face, imo.
It was a very good scene. I still think she was inconsequential to the movie.
I about half way through thought Mindy was the killer, that would have been a great reveal.
@@CarrieArt7 that would make no sense though?
It’s not THE weakest though, it could have been another Charlie or Roman
I agree it's not the strongest but it definitely isn't the weakest by a mile
I'm also tired of the killers being these over the top goofy lunatics once they're revealed, like can we get a competent killer please.
Now this is a good review. It leans critical but it gets to the core of the movie. I just wanted to say hi from Brandon, another movie critic.
Appreciate Cody’s honesty always!! Constructive reviews!
Need a 2nd viewing but it's my favorite sequel as of right now
Couldn’t agree more
Definitely better than 5 but I like 5 lol. I put 6 behind 2 and maybe 4, but definitely better than 3 and 5 without a doubt.
@@MCLogikILL I don't hate Scream 5 but I've watched it like 5 times and nothing ever stands out.
yup....exactly
These new sequels don't touch Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4 IMO. But this movie is better than the previous one based on the strong 2 acts alone, 3rd act was not good.
I can absolutely believe he guessed the killer's identity at the start - I have not seen the film yet, but I did the same with Scream 4. I knew who the killer was after 10 minutes because I thought about it from a writer's point of view regarding what they might try to do, and that's exactly how it played out.
I am always one to guess the killer too
I guessed the killers of the first movie. It was obvious.
@@sandragill9916 did u get the killers right in this movie
For me when it comes to 6's killers, the scene where they go over the rules is what gave away the killers. The ones that were the killers were way too offended when accused, and they got REALLY defensive. Plus they did the most finger pointing to direct the attention away from them.
@@projectpat8807 so you thought she was still alive when she flew out or her room witha cut throat?
They're turning Swiss Cheese into the new Dewey tbh.
@@chazharris Yeah but the way Dewey got stabbed in 2 (for whatever reason I can't remember how bad his attack was in the movie), he definitely should've died in that scene
Hey, anyone can be stabbed multiple times in the stomach and then run around an hr or two later laughing.......
YESSSS!!! Agreed
Agreed!!
I liked the movie but I really like how you brought up the plot armor. Got people being filleted then getting up and doing cartwheels and back flips. I said out loud “yeah right”. Loved the film, but I have my issues with it
Yeah I could have forgiven it...until one character survived. Then it was way too much.
@@CodyLeachYT I know the one you’re talking about. Wel’ll wait till the spoiler video because i need to cuss up a storm about that
I couldn’t agree more with this review.
I totally agree with you.
As a lifelong Scream fan I was very disappointed with the third act.
Jesus Christ that reveal was underwhelming.

And the post credit clip was a letdown also.
Great review as always Cody, yeah, completely agree with you on the killer reveal, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so underwhelmed with a killer reveal in a scream movie before
@Mike Dearing. Disagree, Scream 4 and Scream 5 had weaker killer reveals.
The killer reveal in Scream 6 is the best reveal since Scream 3.

Loved this movie. The store scene, the ladder death, the subway, so tense and amazing!
like I compare those scenes to the action in other films where I wanna rewatch just to see those scenes again haha
It was a fun movie! But that Subway scene was overall just pointless. They had her cornered, she should've been dead. Then Ghostface no.2 jumps in to save her? Why did they even attempt the kill?
The subway scene was my least favorite
Ehhh, those scenes were cool, nothing incredible about them
Those were good scenes but one had GF being taken out by a shelf.
You should watch it sipping a fine wine with your pinky out too.
They did manage to trick me with one of the killers though, I thought that was well played.

Seriously, if you get stabbed 10-15 times in vital places and they pick you up an hour or so later, the chances of survival are slim to none.
I agree Cody, when the killers were reveled. I couldn’t…..just take them seriously. I started to roll my eyes. It was nice to see them get a taste of their own medicine though. Idk if it was the acting or what the hell was going on. It kinda took me outta it.
Yea same. Movie was rolling along nicely till the third act. The writing was silly and the acting was a lil to over the top

Even if they got a taste of their own medicine no one cared enough about them for it to matter.

The ending was out of place for the ghostface we were watching for an hour and a half. It felt like they made a badass ghost face but didn't know how to land the plane so they reverted back to their formula
Nah the whole movie was great.
@@ENT8801 I agree. These reveals were weak as hell. Nothing intimidating or even convincing about them when that mask comes off

I saw this film tonight, did not disappoint 😂
Hit the nail on the head Cody, the third act jumps the shark which is a shame because up until then I thought it was a top tier Scream film.
I genuinely don’t know if this is sarcasm. What reveal was shocking and “I’d never think they’d go there?” They literally have gone there.

The plot armour was similar in Scream 5. In the last act, people get shot and stabbed multiple times, and still survive at the end. Hell, in the intro Tara gets stabbed 7 times with a big ass knife, her leg broken, and still survives and walks around a couple of days later.

Agree
I figured it out when the red head said “when my brother passed my dad moved here to become cop”. But they did a decent job of trying to change my mind. It’s become more about how well of job they do trying to prove me wrong at this point. I did have those “maybe it’s not this person” moments.
Same!
100% agree. One of my favorite scream movies until the 3rd act just left me rolling my eyes over and over again.
I was totally able to forgive the mistakes because it was an enjoyable slasher despite the flaws. It helped get the bad taste of Halloween Ends out. Can’t believe a Scream sequel was more enjoyable than a Halloween sequel, but here we are
Hey let's conclude our trilogy by making a total joke out of Michael and making a movie that has LITERALLY nothing else to do with the first 2 films

I respect Cody's honesty especially in the movie space. 🙌
Excellent review. You are correct about the 3rd act. I didn't think the motive for killings was plausible, but it was still a fun time.
I felt exactly this. Maybe it's our age lol the killers were so obvious! And I felt robbed of some great death scenes that were subsequently undone minutes later
I'm very happy that i can still be pumped to see this from this great review! Thank you for you're honest review man! Keep up the good work!
Really made me feel my age 😅
I think the opening might be the best since the OG, though.
I think I been subbed since you had 20k subs, it’s so good to see how great you’re doing now!
My least fav as well!!!!
And I also figured out that killer quick in the movie and never had the feeling I might be wrong.
chad gets stabbed 50 times by 2 killers and then becomes dewey on the stretcher
LOL 😂 This review was so fucking on point! 🙌🏼 I’m laughing so many times, during many of your reviews. As in WITH you, not at you. There’s so much more to being a reviewer than just “saying stuff”. I really love your style, Cody. Your way of expressing your thoughts, even down to how your subtle facial expressions can say a lot. It’s all very impactful and truly drives your points home. You communicate extremely well, and I commend you for that 🤗 Just one example was you discussing the Gale scene, with her being inside of the walk-in closet. So on point 👌🤣
Thanks for your work, man! 💪
I always appreciate Cody staying true to his thoughts/opinions no matter what the masses are saying....I had so many issues with this movie and I knew Cody would give credit where it’s due and give constructive criticisms
I loved this film, my favourite since scream 2. Ghostface was amazing and so were the characters, I also actually liked the third act personally
Was looking forward to this review. I knew i would get honesty. I feel exactly the same, Cody.
i think they were also going for the new wave of “corrupt law enforcement” / family thing (again) which i like cause its a new type of motive you could say. also dont see where the “it has to leave woodsboro” debate. cause i remember 1 was in woodsboro california, 2 left woodsboro and went to windsor college in ohio, 2 went back to california but is rooted in hollywood with woodsboro as a sound stage, 4 and 5 went to woodsboro but it fits considering the time gap between the films. it really wouldnt make sense to do a time jump as well as an entire new setting then to explain how all of our characters ended up there over 10 plus years when they can bring it back to where it started and do what they did by completing the woodboro story with 5 and moving to New York.
I love you Cody!! You're my favorite RUclipsr ❤️❤️
@Cody Thanks as always for always coming from a place of fandom. I think you were very fair with the pro's and the con's....
it was a great movie and had a huge plot twist at the end.. my only gripe is they cut away from a few kills.. like the shotgun kill you dont see nothing gory like the other kills. also theres 3 ghostfaces this time. wont say nothing more
I agree about Dermot Mulroney, I think he thought this was Scary Movie or something.
😂yep
This movie is better than Halloween ends
I would agree.
100 percent
@@CodyLeachYT all of them are the best in my opinion
It's not close
@@Trill_Tour very close
This actually made me laugh, Cody!!! I feel that this NEW Scream (at least to me) is a Guilty Pleasure because you bring up a lot of great points!!!
Third act was actually my favorite part of the film. Loved a certain performance at the end, it was over the top in the best way
I feel that Wes seemed to come at it from being a father of probably teenagers and his experiences with the people that age as a professor so the characters felt more real. It's like it went from personal to product, really good product but sans the Heisenberg/Wes touch.
Good point. In fact, every “legacy” sequel feels like a product compared to the original. Only exceptions were Top Gun, Blade Runner, and Mad Max.
Wes completely outclasses these dudes
But keep in mind, like for me, I was an adolescent the first Scream. Now I'm like just shy of old enough to be this groups parent. How likely am I to relate to them? Especially when you barely had cell phones in first and now every little thing you do is both recorded and fabricated. I think 6 is the nightmare of 4. If only Jill knew she didn't have to even play innocent but also not really be guilty to get that fame she wanted today.
I agree. I felt the same. Had the same feeling about scream 2 when I 1st seen it but I grew to appreciate it over time. Maybe the same will happen.
I never realized M.M is in the window in this thumbnail. Great review, thank you for no spoilers.
I find it funny that this movie and Spiral both tried using the same weird edit to throw us off the scenes but it only made the killers more obvious
I feel like they turned some parts on it’s head whilst also keeping true to the ‘requel’ theme! Really enjoyed it!
Omg Cody Thankyou finally someone who agrees with me , I hated the ghostface reveal and everything after that ! It just didn’t do it for me. Everything before I really liked and enjoyed. Still a great movie overall. Great review man 👌🏼
