I was an audience member for one of his very first shows in 1984 I got to shake his hand at the end of the show and tell him how wonderful his show was and I do not remember what he said to me but I do remember him smiling and saying thank you he seemed so kind and gracious and I will never forget that day it is such a wonderful memory!
I was very little when I watched him and Kelly ripa on TV but I distinctly remember how my parents watched the show every morning. Regis was such a memorable person, even from a young kid's perspective. May he Rest In Peace
Regis Philbin admitted that he never really kept in touch with Ripa after he left the show. He said that apparently, she was upset that he hadn't informed her of his plans to retire (not unlike her anger when Michael Strahan left). Mr. Philbin remained very close friends with Kathie Lee Gifford right up until the time of his passing in July 2020
Regis was the best. When he left it was the last time I watched any daytime talk show. Nothing compares. The last of a better, and more civilized age of television. When he left it was gone forever.
Nobody has made the mornings so classy, entertaining and funny as Regis. He may be gone but his legacy will live forever and that is my final answer. RIP Regis #ImOutOfControl
Regis was from different stock & he’s a legend in his career. They don’t make them like him anymore. It’s just a new set of people in a new era. The good old days are gone

End of an era alright. I can’t even watch talk show television anymore without hearing them bash our president that’s all their material now a days they can’t think of anything to stay
Regis Philbin appeared on his last episode of Live With Regis and Kelly in 2011 and now almost a decade later, he'll be gone again but this time for good. However the memories of when Regis was here will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, you had a great life and a long television career and there will never be another television talk show host like you (1931 - 2020).

I started watching Live in 1989. I was pregnant with my first child when I flipped the channel and Kathie Lee was talking about pregnancy. I fell in love with the show and the rest is history. I really dont like listening to her.
@@Srarlight1212 The story is that Kelly Ripa was upset that Regis didn't consult with her about his plans to retire and she felt "blindsided" by it. When Michael Starhan left LIVE to go to GMA she did the same thing-only she essentially walked off the show for a week out of anger that again she wasn't "consulted" about his plans to leave.

Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. I watched it when it aired and literally cried the whole show. Now, I’m crying for a much different reason. Regis was like a n old friend because I spent my mornings with him for over 20 years. Regis had a real talent for entertaining and he entertained the audience without a script...That alone put him at the top ...A caliber few ever reach. He was kind, funny, respectful, loved his family, never forget where he came from and loved his Nortre Dame......He was just Regis, A kid from the Bronx who had a dream....A Dream that came true. He was a star that shined bright and best of all is we got to witness the greatness that was Mr. Regis Philban. #RIPRegis #ThanksForTheMemories
Watching them walking down the hall at the beginning -- that brought tears to my eyes. And I've seen this a number of times already! :) Regis was just an institution. Kelly was right: He was unique. He was one-of-a-kind.
Kathie Lee made a mensch out of him when he was so unsecured. She really knew when he needed a little boost during the show. He couldn't have done it without her. Kathie Lee deserves a lot of credit and I can't believe her name wasn't mentioned at all. R.I.P. Regis.
Regis was an absolute class act. He was truly a man of his craft and came from an era when "television personalities" were actually people with personality, talent, charisma, etc. instead of having to rely on gimmicks and/or their parents' names and money for screen time. Regis, you will be dearly missed. May the gods guide your soul wherever it needs to go next. Blessed be.
