Don’t forget Stranahans. I love Stranahans Colorado single malt. A nice malty flavor on front and mid palate with coffee/mocha in the mid palate with a peppery finish. Nothing harsh in my opinion. It’s not a single malt pretending to be a bourbon. Westland sherrywood finish is fantastic too.

I think it's be really cool if you guys did some blending at home - maybe a blind of a flight of home-blended bourbons. Whiskey vault recently did a review of a sort-of-gimmicky irish called "Lost Irish" and he was encouraging folks to try blending at home a bit. I did try it and it was suprisingly enjoyable and difficult.

Mark this moment!!! American single malt will never come close to fabulous scotch single malts. Not even close! Cheers!

WHICH of the scotch single malts are the "fabulous" ones? They vary widely in quality. The best single malts I have had have been from Scotland, sure, but every ASM I have tried has been better than scotch SM's like Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Cragganmore, Auchentoshan, Balvenie, and a whole bunch of others I could name.

@@richardbostan4286 Okay you have a right to your opinion. I disagree. Kilchomen, Ardbeg, Benromach, many Lagavulin, cask strength sherry Laphroaig, and the list could go on and on. Cheers. I don't consider Glenlivet or Glenfiddich to be great scotch single malts - not the low end expressions anyway. Purely for beginners scotch drinkers. I never did. I went right to peated and terrific speysides. Have a great day!!

@@christinecamley -- Oddly, you say you disagree with me but you really haven't contradicted what I said. You admit that distilleries like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich (at the low end anyway) aren't that great, and then you mention a bunch of Scottish distilleries that I DO think are really great. The best scotch I have ever tasted is Ardbeg Corryvrecken.
It is quite possible that no ASM will ever be as good as that, but that wasn't the claim I was responding to. My point was that not ALL single malt scotch is of high quality, and you are not disputing that.

@@richardbostan4286 Okay we are on common ground. I agree we are saying some of the same things! I appreciate your thoughts a lot. Thanks for pointing this out Richard. I mean it. I shouldn't judge the U.S. single malts. We all learn.

ASM is still not better than Scotch, but it's still better than Bourbon.

JD Single malt is about 90 at Duty Free. Outrageously over priced.
