Gotta love a tutorial that has a furperson as an assistant! I'm going to try this pattern...not using this yarn however...I stand stand to touch this stuff! It feels so creepy to me! I know, weird. The dreaded 3rd loop! Lol! Nice effect though.
Thanks for this tutorial!! I've been looking for the right stitch for the blanket I'm making for my husband's Christmas gift and this is the one! I wasn't digging the way 3rd loop hdc was working out-- too tight and a yarn eater... and linen stitch was too holey when stretched... c2c back loop hdc looked misshapen... I was about to give up when I found this 😊
Beautiful blanket. Love the color. You worked well with this yarn. When I have tried working with this yarn it wants to twist on me. Maybe I am crocheting too tightly? I love both of the stitches. Stitch markers are a necessity here. I love how you experiment with everything. It also appears you will be sharing your blanket with friends. 🌍☮️🌲🍁
Yes , did you see Biscuit trying to sneak in? I told him , “forget it Buster, this one’s mine!” Not that he’ll listen 😆 I found the twisting stopped when I started tensioning the yarn between my forefinger and middle finger instead of threading through my hand like I normally do. Don’t know if that is for sure what made the different but it was a game changer for me with this yarn. Have a great week, Jennie, and thanks for watching ! 💕
Yes, I did see Biscuit. I think we know who is in charge. I did notice the yarn was not twisting for you. My tension was probably too tight. I will have to give the yarn another chance. I wouldn't miss your videos. I enjoy them so much. You are a good teacher! 🌍☮️🌲🍁
This pattern is awesome. I love the look. I have made 3 blankets for gifts and they absolutely love them. But the last one I made I accidentally bought a chunkier (sp) yarn and it has unraveled in the middle leaving a hole in the middle. I thought this might be a problem since it was hard to tie off or add the next ream. Please tell me how to fix it or do you have a video already to repair the hole in my blanket? 😢🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Oh that’s great! No, it really doesn’t have a name . It’s a variation of the “camel stitch” and I just liked it because it gave a neat knitted appearance ❤️ If you come up with a good name for it, let me know!
Can this possibly be done using Lion Brand medium #4 that's the yarn I have and it's super soft and the best color. So I'd love to use it but I'm not sure if it would work for this as this is a chunky yarn blanket.
Sure! It would look beautiful - it will just take more yarn to reach these dimensions 👍🏻💕 you can also consider using 2 strands at a time to achieve a chunkier look .
New here. I’m trying the easier one because well, I’m new and the first one was beautiful when you did it but mine? Hard no! Lol! So my question is, if my swatch/sample chunk curves, am I doing the rows too tight? It twists. It turns. It curves. It has a mind of its own!
Did you try making the initial chain looser? That will be a good place to start. If you have a hook that is one size larger than what you’re using for the blanket , that would be best to start the chain (then go back to your regular hook for the rest) . If not , just do your best. Otherwise, yes, it sounds like you have a tight tension . Your yarn might be twisting on you a little but I’m sorry I don’t know how to correct that. I haven’t had that issue but others have mentioned it happens to them. 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe I kept at it and I think I’m actually getting it! I am about the furthest thing from crafty but I’m always trying to learn something new and learning something that is actually a tangible thing feels prrrretty darn good so thank you!

HI there and thank you for your great explantation, easy to follow video. I have a Bernat Blanket yarn, doesn't say ombre on package- but looks it. Would this work with your pattern? sorry for silly question- I'm a very much a beginner, but can't wait to start I have 9 mm hook, but go out and let 12mm for this.
Yes, it will work well with this stitch. If you don’t like how the yarn works up with this stitch you might prefer a v stitch. You can see that here : ruclips.net/video/W7-6jAqXfD0/видео.htmlsi=dyUBYplkLT2jADmP
Thank you so much! i may try this one for my first- it does look easier. another silly question. Does this start on the width? i think the first video was length. Your tips at the end are great too💜🦋💜 @@PlayHookywithMe
@@k-pop-korn6825 the one on the video here starts with length (if you want the stitches to run vertically) and the v stitch one in the other video starts with the width 👍🏻🧶❤️ Let me know how it goes. I’m sure the ombré yarn will work well with this. Let me know how it goes !
Hi there! A beginner for the second time here. Lol. My grandmother taught me to crochet when i was 10 and i recently picked it up again. I have a question about changing colors in this pattern. Would it be possible to change colors and how would i do that?
I’m going to show you a video of a way that I like to change colors , plus the classic way of changing colors. Either way would work well for this . ruclips.net/video/YA5wdt5STgQ/видео.htmlsi=_Z664qz-LLY5yJwA
Love this pattern! Would it be possible to turn into a pillow cover? I'd love to make one for a family member who already has a blanket similar to this. Love your videos ❤
Hi, its me Debbie the one that has alk the questions😂 Ok I talked to you about doing the tutorial with no more turning chain. Can we use that on everything we make or just on Granny Squares? Im doing the Chunky Knitted Blanket now. It was so beautiful and looked so comfy I put my Granny Square aside for now❤ Thank you😊
Does using the BLO method create a larger blanket then for the same amount of yarn? Your sample looked much wider than the one going through the 3rd loop, but it looked like you worked up the same number of rows (but less chains).
Hi! I am new to crochet, and I decided to make this blanket. I love it so much. But I didn't start it long enough, 😢 and now I'm too far into it to start again. Is there any way to increase the width of it?
Unfortunately not. if you really want it longer , you’ll have to start over. Or just continue adding more rows to make the other side longer . That will just mean the direction of the stitch design is longer in that other direction.
Yes! Great for any weight yarn. If you want it to be thicker, use two strands of yarn at the same time with a larger hook 👍🏻 I’ll be doing a video on other types of crochet stitches that look like knit and I’ll be using weight 4 yarn to demonstrate them 🧶
Yes, exactly , and then you can just tie a new ball of yarn to it to continue on . I’d recommend a “magic knot” or a “square knot” knot. You can find tutorials for both on my channel 💕
Hello, working on my blanket today and was wondering if the second chain from hook is only for that first row? It looks to me to be so, then after that it's the first chain from hook that gets the single crochet. Pls confirm Thanks!
It’s actually really easy because you’re just essentially going to MAKE it work by fudging things around a bit. I recommend you watch this video and then just apply the tips to your favorite shell pattern 💕 ruclips.net/video/0bTphnelqKE/видео.htmlsi=S4Q2X-XIjBO7TyvB
I am very new but I think I can do this blanket easily. My son wants this one and he is 6’2” so he wants it long enough to hang over his feet when he’s relaxing. So my yarn is a 6 but the biggest hook I have is an 11. And obviously 70 chains is only gives me about a third of the length I need for him. I understand from your video that I don’t have to keep track of stitches thankfully but with using my size 11 hook, my chains are smaller than yours. Will that be a problem further into the project? Will it give the blanket a little more weight/bulk?
It will make it only slightly tighter but yes you’ll have to go more than 70 to get the length you want. I measured mine and I even should have gone more like 75 to 80 chains to reach the 5 foot mark (it didn’t expand like it normally does for me when I’m starting with the width measurement ) My point is … yes , definitely make your chain longer to start … based on the height you want and the blanket will still be beautiful and have similar tension as the one you see with an 11mm hook 👍🏻💕
Sorry for the multiple comments. I am deleting those. And thank you for the quick reply. I made one for my husband that took about 9.5 skeins and very heavy. I used a hdc in the back loop and Al thought it’s beautiful and heavy, it also took me quite a while working one that big. I’m going to trying yours today and see if I can make it quicker (and less expensive) LOL
@@TammyV-n4w Oooo okay I actually frogged the blanket I was making for my husband using hdc because it was eating too much yarn and it was too thick and not stretchy enough.... this stitch is working so much better for me!
Thank you for the info! I got sidetracked this past weekend and didn’t get to work on this new project. I am glad to know this one will be quicker and less expensive. The one I made for my husband with the hdc is close to a twin size because he is so tall and it is so heavy that it feels like a weighted blanket. Thanks again ladies for the helpful info.
I don’t know. I’m in the US and measure in feet/ inches 💕 I recommend you grab a tape measure and see what covers you the best . Or measure your favorite blanket and use those dimensions as your guide 👍🏻
I’d recommend you redo it with a larger hook and try to relax your tension. I know that’s hard as a beginner, it takes time . So, a larger hook is your best bet. ❤️ if it’s completely finished , then the only thing I can think of is to “block” it.
You can , but it’s more difficult. The video that you’ve left a comment on is a great option if you know how to crochet. If not , I’ll be teaching how to finger crochet an easy blanket soon which will work well with your yarn. But In the mean time here is a video on how to finger knit with the yarn you have: Finger Knitting with Thinner Yarn - Perfect for Baby Blankets ruclips.net/video/MHOeks1z6Tw/видео.html
It’s the same kind of concept but that is not the back loop that you’re going into. The back loop is right above it 👍🏻 You’re going into the “3rd loop” (Front loop, back loop, 3rd loop)
@@PlayHookywithMe I don’t think so, I’m going into the back loop f the v on top, not the third loop. It was the first stitch I learned (fastest and easiest way to make beanies and twisted headbands) but a darn yarn eater! Now I learned to make the last 4-5 stitches of one end (front and back) a slip stitch to make that top end of a beanie smaller, so when you sew up the top end it’s not so bulky and it looks nice and rounded.
@@asaldanapr for this particular blanket , you’ll see if you work into the back loop, you’re going to lose the v stitch that appears . For this pattern , you’re working into the loop that is behind the back loop . Just try it both ways and you’ll see the difference. The back loop will give you a ribbing effect like I show you later in the video.
@@PlayHookywithMe you are so right. I just looked at a beanie I’m making and all I see are ridges and valleys not the knit stitch… duh! Well, all of what I’ve made so far were gifts and the recipients don’t know the difference. I’ve only been crocheting for not even a year yet and am doing much better than when I started Thank Dog!!! 😉😂
@@asaldanapr what you’re doing is PERFECT! You’re doing it the “right”way - that’s how I’ve learned to do beanies as well. This technique in the video is just a variation , that’s it. 👍🏻💕
Not sure what you mean? I’d have to have done a lot of different experiments to know for sure. That’s like asking how many licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop . 😅 How big are you wanting to make yours. Do you have any of this yarn? If so, I’d recommend making a swatch And using this formula to figure out how much you need. If you don’t have the yarn , I can make one for you to help you use the formula. Just let me know : ruclips.net/video/Bsg85P-2PEk/видео.htmlsi=i1PxJTKoBXxtjvl5
@PlayHookywithMe haha good point I just know in the video you said you could have made it bigger with 4 skeins and I was curious how much..I am an extreme beginner
Sorry for the vague example. I'm not sure how to explain. I think in the video you said it only took 3 1/2 skeins and you went 70 on the length chain so I was curious if I would have enough yarn to go longer and wider I would love to make it like 50×60
@@debd5759 thanks for the clarification- you’ll get very close to the 50x60 with the 4 skeins. I’d recommend that you start your chain with the 50inches like you want and then if it doesn’t quite reach your 60 inches then you can always get another skein later. You’ll probably need to start with about 75 or 80 to get the 5ft mark. Hope that helps .
Yes, you should be able to but just be mindful of where you are working your stitch when you turn it. With a hdc the “back “ of the stitch looks different to the sc. I haven’t tried with a hdc so I can’t tell you specifically where to place your hook but I’m sure you can figure it out. ❤️

@@PlayHookywithMeI added 10 more😊. Do you think this pattern would work with super bulky (7) yarn? I have some I need to use and thought a blanket would be good.
@@Femalefirefighter1 what size hook does it require? If it’s 25mm , it’s going to be awfully dense with this yarn but it is doable. A finger knit blanket or even finger crochet (using slip stitches ) would be a good option.
I don’t know. I recommend using a tape measure or your favorite blanket to determine the length you want to start with. I’m not sure what you consider a lap size so it’s best for you to determine that . Then chain using the multiple guide in the video.

Made this with the Bernet Chenille and it was wonderful!!
I’m so happy 😀💕👏🏻
Gotta love a tutorial that has a furperson as an assistant!
I'm going to try this pattern...not using this yarn however...I stand stand to touch this stuff! It feels so creepy to me! I know, weird.
The dreaded 3rd loop! Lol! Nice effect though.
Hahaha he is a yarn magnet!
It’s a fun stitch … I was thinking it would make a great scrap blanket 🧶🧶🧶Have a great week.
Beautiful yarn. This stich is so nice n ideal with a larger hook
Thank you ! 😀🧶💕
I was about to give up when I found this 😊
Oh good ! well not good that the others didn’t work out for you but you know what I mean ! 👏🏻❤️
Simply beautiful. You are a great teacher, I love how you took your time and went slowly. Like both ways to make almost the same design. Thank you.
Appreciate it, thank you so much 😀💕🧶
Beautiful blanket.
I told him , “forget it Buster, this one’s mine!” Not that he’ll listen 😆
I found the twisting stopped when I started tensioning the yarn between my forefinger and middle finger instead of threading through my hand like I normally do.

The colors is beautiful 😍 also the stitches are pretty amazing to❤🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶
Thank you , I was excited when I came across it. It’s new and called Terracotta Rose. Loved looking at it all weekend 😂🥰
I love your tutorials and I just love the blanket pattern. You are the best thank you so much ❤🙏😘🥰
So glad , thank you 😀😘❤️🧶🧶
Very nice! I like the technique used to straighten the edges. TFS! ❤
Thank you! 😊💕
It’s beautiful
Thank you 💕🧶
I just made a beautiful blanket with this pattern! ❤ Im obsessed! Does this particular pattern have a name?
Beautiful. Good tips. 🌍☮️🌲
Thank you , Jennie! 🧶💕💕
You are very welcome.🎄

Oh no 😟 can you send me a picture over on Instagram private message ? I wonder if you could tie in some more yarn and sort of stitch it back together.
I haven’t done a video on this before but it sounds like I need to do some research and make one ❤️
HI there and thank you for your great explantation, easy to follow video.
I have a Bernat Blanket yarn, doesn't say ombre on package- but looks it.
Would this work with your pattern? sorry for silly question-
I'm a very much a beginner, but can't wait to start
I have 9 mm hook, but go out and let 12mm for this.
Yes, it will work well with this stitch. If you don’t like how the yarn works up with this stitch you might prefer a v stitch. You can see that here :
ruclips.net/video/W7-6jAqXfD0/видео.htmlsi=dyUBYplkLT2jADmP
Thank you so much! i may try this one for my first- it does look easier. another silly question. Does this start on the width? i think the first video was length. Your tips at the end are great too💜🦋💜 @@PlayHookywithMe
@@k-pop-korn6825 the one on the video here starts with length (if you want the stitches to run vertically) and the v stitch one in the other video starts with the width 👍🏻🧶❤️
Let me know how it goes.

Love this pattern! Would it be possible to turn into a pillow cover? I'd love to make one for a family member who already has a blanket similar to this. Love your videos ❤
Absolutely! 💕
Any recommendations for a border on this blanket? Thanks :)
I personally would keep it simple with a round or two of sc’s.

Hi, its me Debbie the one that has alk the questions😂 Ok I talked to you about doing the tutorial with no more turning chain. Can we use that on everything we make or just on Granny Squares? Im doing the Chunky Knitted Blanket now. It was so beautiful and looked so comfy I put my Granny Square aside for now❤ Thank you😊
Hi Debbie ! 👋🏻 Yes, you can use it on anything you like. It will work on this type of project too.
I switch from project to project too 😅😅💕
Does using the BLO method create a larger blanket then for the same amount of yarn? Your sample looked much wider than the one going through the 3rd loop, but it looked like you worked up the same number of rows (but less chains).
It didn’t make as much of a difference as it looks but imo , yes , just doing the blo only probably works up slightly larger and has more stretch .
Can you do color change with this type of stitch?
Absolutely! Just join from the side with your favorite joining technique and carry on with your next color 👍🏻💕
How many rows did the final blanket have? I want to do a slightly larger 5ft x 6ft but I'm struggling as I'm increasing rows
I’m sorry , I didn’t count the rows. I just kept going until I came to the size I wanted .
Is it possible to do this stitch with jumbo yard & done with your hands instead of a crochet hook?
You bet ! 💕🧶
Will this work with a weight 4 yarn?
Yes! Great for any weight yarn. If you want it to be thicker, use two strands of yarn at the same time with a larger hook 👍🏻 I’ll be doing a video on other types of crochet stitches that look like knit and I’ll be using weight 4 yarn to demonstrate them 🧶
Thank you I'm going to try this on my upcoming trip!!
Sorry I’m very new to crocheting - so we’ll just repeat the same pattern until we finish all of the yarn?
Yes, exactly , and then you can just tie a new ball of yarn to it to continue on . I’d recommend a “magic knot” or a “square knot” knot. You can find tutorials for both on my channel 💕
Hello, working on my blanket today and was wondering if the second chain from hook is only for that first row? It looks to me to be so, then after that it's the first chain from hook that gets the single crochet. Pls confirm Thanks!
Yes , that’s correct 👍🏻💕
Thanks for sharing
Could you make a tutorial for a big wavy tote bag? 😭

How would you add a shell stitch border to this blanket? Thanks
It’s actually really easy because you’re just essentially going to MAKE it work by fudging things around a bit.
I recommend you watch this video and then just apply the tips to your favorite shell pattern 💕

Thanks so much!
I measured mine and I even should have gone more like 75 to 80 chains to reach the 5 foot mark (it didn’t expand like it normally does for me when I’m starting with the width measurement )
My point is … yes , definitely make your chain longer to start … based on the height you want and the blanket will still be beautiful and have similar tension as the one you see with an 11mm hook 👍🏻💕
@@TammyV-n4w oh boy ! Yes that’s a lot of work , I hope this works up more quickly for you 👏🏻👏🏻💕
@@TammyV-n4w Oooo okay I actually frogged the blanket I was making for my husband using hdc because it was eating too much yarn and it was too thick and not stretchy enough.... this stitch is working so much better for me!
Beautiful 10:40
Thank you 💕
How big of a blanket would I need to make if I am 160 cm?
I don’t know. I’m in the US and measure in feet/ inches 💕
I recommend you grab a tape measure and see what covers you the best . Or measure your favorite blanket and use those dimensions as your guide 👍🏻
Hello, ok 2.5 cm is one inch,so 160cm wb aprox 64 inches (2,5 + 160) hope this helps.
How to you end it if you didn’t add that extra row at the end?
I’m unclear what you mean
hi, so i am new to crocheting, but i did mine too tight. is there anyway i can fix it?
i forgot to do it loosley
I’d recommend you redo it with a larger hook and try to relax your tension. I know that’s hard as a beginner, it takes time . So, a larger hook is your best bet. ❤️ if it’s completely finished , then the only thing I can think of is to “block” it.
I have bulky luxe velvet yarn that I accidentally bought. Can I finger knit with luxe yarn? It’s fluffier than regular velvet. @playhookywithme
You can , but it’s more difficult. The video that you’ve left a comment on is a great option if you know how to crochet.
If not , I’ll be teaching how to finger crochet an easy blanket soon which will work well with your yarn.
But In the mean time here is a video on how to finger knit with the yarn you have:

We start with 71 chains can you please let me know how many rows I have do to get blanket size
I don’t count by rows - I just continue on until I reach the size I want or I run out of yarn
@@PlayHookywithMe thank you for response I wanted to take reference as if I start with 71 chain how many rows I have to repeat
@@saumyashippy2042 until
You reach your desired length 👍🏻
I haven’t gotten to the end but isn’t this this just like going into the back loop only?
It’s the same kind of concept but that is not the back loop that you’re going into. The back loop is right above it 👍🏻
You’re going into the “3rd loop”
(Front loop, back loop, 3rd loop)
How big could you have gone with the four skeins? How many chains long and with
Not sure what you mean? I’d have to have done a lot of different experiments to know for sure. That’s like asking how many licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop . 😅
How big are you wanting to make yours.
Do you have any of this yarn?
If so, I’d recommend making a swatch
And using this formula to figure out how much you need.
If you don’t have the yarn , I can make one for you to help you use the formula. Just let me know :
ruclips.net/video/Bsg85P-2PEk/видео.htmlsi=i1PxJTKoBXxtjvl5
@PlayHookywithMe haha good point I just know in the video you said you could have made it bigger with 4 skeins and I was curious how much..I am an extreme beginner
@@PlayHookywithMe I bought 4 skeins of the same yarn, different color.
Can I use hdc??
Yes, you should be able to but just be mindful of where you are working your stitch when you turn it. With a hdc the “back “ of the stitch looks different to the sc. I haven’t tried with a hdc so I can’t tell you specifically where to place your hook but I’m sure you can figure it out. ❤️

I don’t know. I recommend using a tape measure or your favorite blanket to determine the length you want to start with. I’m not sure what you consider a lap size so it’s best for you to determine that .
Then chain using the multiple guide in the video.
