Hi friends, I hope you enjoy the video! Despite all the cat chaos, I made this cozy blanket on Friday and wanted to show you. This is a one row repeat version of the herringbone sc stitch . It was such a joy to make and I wanted to call it the Herring- ZEN blanket. The yarn felt amazing! Everyone ready for christmas? xx
Wait....isn't cat chaos part of crocheting though?😂 (my cats insist on becoming a part of any blanket I crochet. I used to have a knitting buddy, too...a Pomeranian whid check my tension for me while I knitted by laying under the blanket I was making, but now, he's in a better place. Haven't done much knitting since then. Crocheting with Cats...better known as Extreme Crocheting😂😂❤❤❤❤) Gotta love our furry friends who insist on helping❤❤❤ Beautiful blanket❤❤ And thanks for a new pattern for me to try once the holidays are over. May you and yours have the warmest of holidays❤❤
@ extreme crocheting! Love it! 🙌🏻😂 I also love your story about your past knitting partner. 💕 You are absolutely right , there’s nothing like having crochet critters to go along with the making 🙌🏻 Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! This actually looks doable. I'm an absolute beginner with a new year's resolution to teach myself how to crochet in 2025! At 48, I've reached the age that I want a granny blanket for my knees 😂
OMGosh! Happy you have another video….beautiful color. I actually have enough Bernat in my stash to do this….love the finishing needle. Don’t lose, they aren’t cheap. But! That tip about how to tie the ends together to join chenille is BRILLIANT! Never seen that before! Leave it to you… 😊 Thank you! 🐈🐈
I enjoy crochet projects that allow my brain to wander - especially ones that can be done in a day!! It's good to know someone else takes 'game' breaks - LOL. Thank you for another wonderful video - enjoy your Christmas.
Congratulations and thank you, for starting at the beginning, such a valuable tutorial for me, along with all extra finishing, tips ect for those of us who are not great at crocheting or just starting out. Excellent tutorial ❤
Que bonita manta, el color, calientita y suavecita, Gracias por compartir su lindo trabajo, que tenga un excelente día! Saludos de California! Felices Fiestas! 🤗🤗🥳🥳❤️❤️❤️
Yes!! Thank you so much for another beginner friendly video which you make very easy to follow. I have compiled a couple of projects I would like to start in the New Year as I’ve only made a beanie once . This one looks like I could definitely get it accomplished 😊 I love the repeat and design !!
I am SO gonna make this blanket for a friend that is getting married soon. LOVE your videos and thank you so much for sharing them with us! You are THE best ❤🦋
Thank you for the beautiful quick pattern. I have 4 balls of Bernat Blanket just waiting for this stitch. I’m new to your blog and look forward to more. Be blessed. 😊
I really love this pattern. I’m always looking for easy stitches for those chunky yarns. Since it’s so easy, it seems you can use all different weights of chunky yarns. Just change the number of chains for the weight and size of your project. I think the chain is counted in groups of 5 +1 at the end for the turning switch and to use the hook size recommended on your yarn label. Thank you for your channel!
Oh my god I'm so excited you dropped a new video and not only that but the most gorgeous stitch I've been dying to try. I love how you did mention a couple hours of candy crush lmao
Beautiful stitch! Correct me if I’m wrong, but on row one it looks like you’re going into the top loop only. If so, thanks for letting me know. I always have trouble with my first rows anyway. It’s easy to get lost in the chain. I was in Heaven last year when I discovered the foundation chain method. Once you get it, you got it and row 1 is a breeze. Thanks for all you’re doing. I just found your channel and look forward to watching all your videos. Blessings to you. 💗Rita
Hi Rita, that’s right , I’m just working into the top loop of the chain. You might prefer working into the back of each chain. If you turn the chain over you’ll see what looks like a bump. It’s the “back leg” of the chain . You would count the “bumps”just like a chain. Great to have you here! ❤️❤️
Great tutorial. I'm using this pattern for a blanket I've tried to start but didn't know for sure what pattern to use. Thank you!! PS I'm using Big Twist yarn and size 9mm crochet hook. Ch 87 and turned for the pattern.
Hello Roz... Blesdings to you on the eve of Xmas . I'm still getting things ready for the holidays , but i cant let the day go by without scroling through your tutorial . However ; when all the fuss and frolic is over i will watch the tutorial and make one for the winter . Wishing you a very merry Christmas and all the best in 2025 with the boys and girls . Dear Roz, Thank you for sharing this video tutorial with us! My very first blanket and only full single bed size blanket was using a similar stitch it was called extended sc I believe, but it didn’t have the herringbone look I don’t believe (sorry many years ago and I have given it away). I will have to try this as soon as I complete the 3 baby blankets I have on my hook I need to finish😅 I can see this as a stash busting stitch pattern. I have lots of DK and some worsted weight yarn and maybe some chenille/polyester yarn I could use, thanks for the tips and tricks for joining the chenille yarn that is genius! Wishing you and your family and Community a Merry Christmas and a Happy Blessed and Prosperous New Year 2025! Wishing all your fur babies a Merry Meow Christmas from my Kitty Saskia aka Sassy 😻 🙏🏽🩷😻🧶🐶🎄🎅🏼🧑🏼🎄🤶🏼🌟🍾🥂💜
Lov everything you do! You are so clear and precise. How would I make a blanket out of diff sized granny squares? Is there a way? I like the thought of an unplanned look. Thank you!
The easiest way would be to sit and draw it out for yourself with different sizes. Make a grid and get a game plan. Pick dimensions that work easily together,. Use a common denominator like 2 and 4 for example. Make some squares 2x2 , 4x4 inches, 8x8, 16x16 . Would be gorgeous!
I stumbled across RUclips and found your video. I am so grateful for your understanding of how some of us need it slow and repeated to get it. The closeup of your video is marvelous. I’m not guessing which link or chain do I go through now?!? Thanks for sharing ❤😊

Hi play hooky when using this pattern with number 4 wait yarn do you have to chain one at the end of every row. I'm using a size 6 hookvi love the pattern wanted to ask before I went to far with it ?❤
It washes very well. The only thing I found was , the end easily comes out after you’ve weaved it. I made mine too short thinking it would stay tucked in . Nope. So I’d recommend washing it , then weave in the tails after . Or , if you aren’t wanting to wash it right away, then weave it in very well (nice long tail) . For added assurance , tack it in with a needle and thread. I usually do that with chenille finger knit blankets and it would work well for this too. If you could suggest an appropriate stitch for a dishcloth as I would like to start there maybe first before taking on this stunning blanket . What stitch makes a nice drape for a dishcloth in your opinion ? There are so many I really would appreciate your thoughts 😊
Hi 👋🏻 💕 A simple moss stitch would be ideal . That’s where you alternate a sc and a chain 1. You can work it in rounds or rows.
Here’s a video where I work it in the round :

If it doesn’t explain turning for you , let me know .
I just made this for my nephew and for the border I used the same stitch (instead of the regular sc. Turned out fabulous!
BUT while working on the blanket itself, I was having trouble keeping edges/blanket even.
I would lay it down every few rows and see that it was straight all across and on the edges, no missing/extra stitches anywhere.
Then boom, on lay down the blanket was wonky, kinda curving upwards on both sides!
I was going slow to make sure of my tension but somehow it just got wonky. I must have restarted three times from foundation thinking it was too loose one time and too tight the next, several times after the second skein...
I finally got it somewhat evenish and will leave it at that. But now I am working on another one for another relative going through leukemia and that upwards curve is happening again. It is my foundation chain? Missing/extra stitch I don't see? I am making myself crazier!
AND yes, I used the stitch markers on each end.
Also noticed that after completed the first row after foundation that it ended up a few inches shorter. So CLEARLY, my brain wires are frayed.
Help please?
I am using Bernant Baby Blanket Dappled with it's recommend 10mm ( my nephews was the same just different color).
I will have to try the edging like you did , it sounds fabulous!
Yes , the shrinking is an issue . I warned about it in the beginning. I tried 3 times and still didn’t get the stitch count to match the width I wanted exactly.
I think this is happening because of the nature of the stitch . It’s a lot like a sc decrease but instead of pulling from the top we are pulling at the side and creating the stitch . It doesn’t decrease the stitch count but it does pull the stitches closer together.
I’m not sure what is happening otherwise. Let me know if you discover anything else. It doesn’t sounds like you are losing any stitches .
🧶❤️
Hi play hooky when using this pattern with number 4 wait yarn do you have to chain one at the end of every row. I'm using a size 6 hookvi love the pattern wanted to ask before I went to far with it ?❤
Yes, ch1 and turn . This just helps to give you some wiggle room to make your next stitch . 🤗✨
Have fun
@PlayHookywithMe thank you so much 💓 God bless
I was able to buy those needles at my local JoAnn's earlier this month! 😊
Oh that’s terrific! 😀👏🏻
I’m so bummed , they closed the one in my town 😭
Does it work with smaller hooks too? I found a yarn that works with yhe 7 mm hook...hope it will stil work
Yes, absolutely, use whatever you like 🧶💕
@PlayHookywithMe thanks!! I can't wait to start this project tomorrow!!
Would this work with variegated yarn TY
Yes it would 💕
Can you make it with regular yarn?
Absolutely! 🧶
Thank you been doing chroche all most a year off and on now
What is the name of this stitch i done started a blanket out of 4 wait yarn using a number 6 hook done got about 6" inches done since yyeaterday?
Weight 6 will make it grow faster. 👍🏻
Linked single crochet stitch
How much yarn would you say this uses versus a single crochet stitch or double stitch? Its beautiful ❤️
I did 3 swatches to compare .
For a 2x4 inch swatch , this is how much yarn was used:
SC: 3 grams
Linked SC : 4 grams
DC : 4 grams
I love this! ❤ One question, have you washed a blanket made with this yarn? How does it come out?
It washes very well. The only thing I found was , the end easily comes out after you’ve weaved it. I made mine too short thinking it would stay tucked in . Nope.
So I’d recommend washing it , then weave in the tails after . Or , if you aren’t wanting to wash it right away, then weave it in very well (nice long tail) . For added assurance , tack it in with a needle and thread. I usually do that with chenille finger knit blankets and it would work well for this too. A dab of glue on the raw end of the yarn would help with the fraying issue.
Air dry only , btw . 🧶💕
@@PlayHookywithMe thank you so much!!!❤️
How many chains did you start with?
Please rewatch the important tip segment where I share my chain count and what I recommend you do instead.
How many rows do you do for your blankets?
I want to say it was about 64 or 65 rows but don’t hold too strictly to that. Just keep working until it reaches the height you want. I wanted mine to be 48 x 60 inches .
Thank you 😊
Hi there friend. I clicked on the thumbs up and it didn’t move from zero up to one

I have been making a blanket just like this and it has been taking me months! Ughh
Whaaaa? 😆 are you using thinner yarn? 🧶
Is there a name for this stitch?
Herringbone stitch. Not is traditionally, because it is crocheted on wrong side different more difficult way.
♥
My button worked just fine
I’m new, I wish you would not have sped through the edging 🤦🏽♀️ such a good tutorial till then. Now I don’t know how to do that part.
Sorry , Angela.
It’s a “single crochet foundation border “. A standard edging that goes on most crochet blankets.
