These guys are hilarious, and I love to hear their stories. Heavily applaud the metaphor of mp3s and eating McDonalds vs records and the slow food movement. Vinyl is bomb.
Wow! That Mr. John Taylor picked up DEVO, Wow! I'm not a big fan of DEVO but I've seen the album before lots of times. I love how Mr. John Taylor picked up King Crimson! I love that album! I grew up listening to King Crimson and that album in general! I love how Mr. Le Bon picked up the DOORS albums! I've seen those albums everywhere! I've seen Robby Krieger perform a few times at my high school because they started a program in my high school called the Music Path and Robby Krieger helps run the program. When I saw Mr. Le Bon hold up Arcadia So Red The Rose even two of them I thought that's really cool because not only did he get one for himself but he got one for Mr. Rhodes too. That's so sweet if him. 😊 I've listened to the album lots of times and it's an amazing album! 😀👍When Mr. Le Bon picked up School's Out For Summer I thought, Wow! Alice Cooper! At the Battle of the Bands performance at my high school when I was still in High School, Robby Krieger performed that song at the end of the year to end the show and even though I really didn't know it then but I really liked it! 😄
The only vinyl album that I actually played until it was unplayable was Rio. So I have two copies -- one that plays, and the original for sentimental value. I would have so much fun hanging out with these guys browsing in a store like this one. I miss flipping through albums, seeing what treasures are buried in the stacks. They picked up some great LPs.
Thanks for posting this clip. I like it when artists are interviewed in casual settings and they are more at ease to offer personal insights rather than the orchestrations of promotional madness. Nice music picks, John and Simon!
I must admit that I now have a new found respect for them.I thought they were tacky 80s pop trash..But they are really cool guys with a outstanding taste in music. And my dirty guilty pleasure is Girls On Film as well..
@@thewhoman3182 i, myself have never shied away since i really discovered them in 1999 after I had purchased Greatest. i used to suffer such ridicule and derision, but it didn't phase me much.
Love Simon he's got a great sense of homour still incredibly gorgous DD are still going in 2020 brilliant celebrating 40years wow not many off the eighties still have it!!!!!
Oddly Simons voice isn’t so high pitched in the recent episode of this. Maybe at the time he was suffering from vocal issues, many singers go through it. Probably not... who knows LOL. But DD deserve respect, they were dismissed as a pop boy band of sorts with no actual depth. Absolutely wrong. Master class songwriters, and musicians. They hit everyone with a very excellent new wave album debut and only got better, unfortunately same can’t be said for the late 80’s stuff, and most 90’s, but what a run they had. Taylor’s bassline chops are brilliant, as was his turn in The Power Station with Robert Palmer.
Yeah so what they recieved hate crap and jealousy, literally everyone does. Im beginning to wonder why we can't just stay why things are great without bringing the up some dumbasses BS, ya know🤷♂️. It's like let that shi* die
Wow Simon have gone up in my estimation which I thought not possible. Great music, races bikes, humble guy. Then gets 3 Zep albums! Was actually listing to no 1 an hour ago.
Now subscribes to Amoeba on RUclips. The idea of interviewing musicians inside the record shop rocks. And of course news about the most loved brummies in the world is always a hit :-)
See that's what I'm talking about. You can tell they're music fans, the albums they picked were so diverse. That, and there's a special meaning behind each one. They need to put out a 180 gram reissue of the Arcadia album!. Yes, I still have my Duran vinyl...including the singles and 12 inch imports :).
I am always surprised to hear Simon LeBon’s speaking voice. He doesn’t sound like he can sing….. and then he turns out to be one of the most legendary frontmen in pop music! And John Taylor - the bass god! By the way…. great taste in music, guys.
Major props to Taylor... KC Red, PiL Second Edition, first Tubes LP; fantastic selections - and Simon earns a shout out for Alice Cooper - School's Out. (but they should have thrown a curve and played 'Gutter Cat vs. The Jets' in the BG)
It's the fact he was so proud of the joke and the guy didn't get it and Simon who was so proud just replies yeah. Maybe he should have done the Police & Thieves joke.
That Public Image Ltd that John has, look up the song ALBATROSS, long track perfect for driving distance at night, bass rolling, guitar and steady drum tempo, really he's got a good one there, reissue or not.
@Trace7173 Very true. Oddly enough though, in California, there are so many "famous" musicians walking around that most people are at ease about it. I still can't hold back sometimes...
John looks like steve tyler these days so badly, imo, im more simon then john, even young john..... still a simon girl, out of the two, simon still wins in my book with his sarcastic humor........i love that in a man
Gosh....Simon could legit be my soulmate 😍 same humour, funny, pretty much same music taste, likes Alice cooper 😍 me and him could have conversations worth having, and he's hot 😁😁😁🥰🥰🥰
i can’t help but mention that the interviewer had among us looking characters on his shirt way before among us was a thing, what!? anyway, i really enjoyed seeing freedom of choice in john’s hands.
2009 so not Among Us-related, but a shirt made by local artist DUSER who is still quite active. Glad you noticed! I've always called them "eye-teeth" lol.
I had to do a double-take when I heard Mark Ronson was producing, hard to think he was once only credited with producing Amy Winehouse, Lily ALlen and Nikka Costa and not a chart topping solo artist in his own right
The Duran Duran guys are very nice dudes. They really love music.
These guys are hilarious, and I love to hear their stories. Heavily applaud the metaphor of mp3s and eating McDonalds vs records and the slow food movement. Vinyl is bomb.
John Taylor has insanely great taste. Every record he picked was a classic!
So true, John Taylor and what a great comparison: Vinyl is to music what the slow-food movement is to cooking.
John Taylor seems like a decent chap who digs music. Always a good start.
The man is a right top bass player
Wow! That Mr. John Taylor picked up DEVO, Wow! I'm not a big fan of DEVO but I've seen the album before lots of times. I love how Mr. John Taylor picked up King Crimson! I love that album! Love the Arcadia moment... And the record as well.
John Taylor has aged nicely like fine wine. He was hot as a young man and he is fine now too. This is a win-win!
🎉❤❤Simon is my man 💪

who would think Simon loves his Zep!! I knew I liked him for a reason back in the 80's
Duran Duran is an amazing band with the right sound still, gathering young and old to enjoy there music, outstanding. From a true fan.
JT is a smooth dude.
Thanks for posting this clip. I like it when artists are interviewed in casual settings and they are more at ease to offer personal insights rather than the orchestrations of promotional madness. Nice music picks, John and Simon!
Now I love Duran Duran more because Simon is a Doors fan
Duran Duran has good taste in music...
#ThrowbackThursday: John Taylor and Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran went record shopping at Amoeba San Francisco back in 2009! #TBT
Their 2009 choices > their 2016 choices. But Rhodes had interesting film picks on the latter.
I must admit that I now have a new found respect for them.I thought they were tacky 80s pop trash..But they are really cool guys with a outstanding taste in music. And my dirty guilty pleasure is Girls On Film as well..
Never hide from Duran Duran. I knew they were great as soon as I listened to them.
Let the world know about your Duran Duran passion.

You need to hear Ordinary World if you haven’t already.
My favorite group of the 80's. These guys were "Gods" back then!
I lived, and breathed Duran Duran back in the day. Still love them 💟
"Red" by King Crimson is one of John Taylor's favorite albums. Mind=blown.
i love duran duran. its nice to know they also enjoy listen vynil records.

Thanks for posting this video. I enjoyed seeing and hearing John and Simon talking about their musical choices.
Probably the best one yet. Very cool guys, excellent picks!
... And props to John for mellowing out quite nicely over the years.
Well, John Taylor and I have one thing in common: we both love that AMAZING Nyro/Labelle record.
Wow Simon have gone up in my estimation which I thought not possible. Great music, races bikes, humble guy. Then gets 3 Zep albums! Was actually listing to no 1 an hour ago.
Laura Nyro, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Free, Patty Smith, Doors...I didn't expect they had such good tastes.
Back in the day, I played Rio until there was nothing left but skips and scratches. What a great album.
Now subscribes to Amoeba on RUclips. The idea of interviewing musicians inside the record shop rocks. And of course news about the most loved brummies in the world is always a hit :-)
Gosh!! What's not to love about these guys
OMG, I saw the Tubes in Monterey Ca in 1982 in a very small venue. God I wish I could remember the name of the club.
See that's what I'm talking about. You can tell they're music fans, the albums they picked were so diverse. That, and there's a special meaning behind each one. Two nice guys...they've changed and mellowed quite a bit, quite good taste as well.
Major props to Taylor... KC Red, PiL Second Edition, first Tubes LP; fantastic selections - and Simon earns a shout out for Alice Cooper - School's Out. (but they should have thrown a curve and played 'Gutter Cat vs. The Jets' in the BG)
Laughing because the guy didn't get the police on my back joke lmao :')
It's the fact he was so proud of the joke and the guy didn't get it and Simon who was so proud just replies yeah.
Maybe he should have done the Police & Thieves joke.
Fuck me, that was the most BLATANT reference and the guy who WORKS IN A RECORD STORE, didn't see it.
That Public Image Ltd that John has, look up the song ALBATROSS, long track perfect for driving distance at night, bass rolling, guitar and steady drum tempo, really he's got a good one there, reissue or not.
Telling they both picked Free , excellent choice.
The Tubes! YES!!
Great interview Thanks
@Trace7173 Very true. Oddly enough though, in California, there are so many "famous" musicians walking around that most people are at ease about it. I still can't hold back sometimes...

God and I thought I was the only crazy looking for my vinyl records each time I hear a song, it sounds way better right
omg simon buying two copies of arcadia cracked me up :')
simon has aged 160 years but his voice weirdly is literally that of an 8 year old
John Taylor has in incredible sense of humor and still looks very handsome.I can't say the same for Simon though unfortunately.
+luna reed
You should post a vid on youtube of you in your 50's and see how that goes.
You must be over the hill yourself if you did not like my comment.Did I hit a nerve:)
+Jsalrulz Le Bon looks pretty damn good for a guy pushing 60!
@@ayshortier He's 60 now and still looks great.

God Bless`em They are soooooooooo Roger Mooooooooooooore
NEU great band
There was a time these guys would be mobbed by screaming girls before getting within 100 feet of a shop like this.
I had to do a double-take when I heard Mark Ronson was producing, hard to think he was once only credited with producing Amy Winehouse, Lily ALlen and Nikka Costa and not a chart topping solo artist in his own right
Correct, an informed opinion, an opinion of discernment and good taste, but yes my opinion.
Simon has a tiny voice
aye till you stick him infront of a band =D
I agree!
What's the name of that arcadia song you guys played?
Hi, mate! Don't know if it's too late, but the song title is "The Promise". The whole record is brilliant, tho.
I a bit surprised Simon doesn't have Arcadia on vinyl.
Nothing wrong with being a rocker! :P
I wonder if Simon is aware there is a clash song called "police in my back"?
wink wink, nudge nudge
YUMMY....Still
The producers must have shit a brick when the footage came back and all of the close ups were out of focus.
It was King Crimson's Red
6:50 Astoria Queens!!
Wow those 2 guys are buying on the record stores. You know there is no more records in the Philippines. Because they sale only cd's
What was the first album? The music was too loud and there was a lot of glare
In the opening scene it looks like the people in the store are clueless of who their standing next to..
Er.. Duran Duran
PS yaaa The Tubes !
The Promise
