Even your basic cloth flak vest is bulletproof in Star Wars. Full head to toe Plaststeel like the Clone and Storm trooper armor were basically walking tanks who'd barely notice ballistics pinging off them. Even the underweave wouldn't be penetrated.
      Slugthrowers are only used by feral populations who don't have the tech base to produce BlasTech. They would be hand crafted which would make them insanely rare, prohibitedly expensive, and that's assuming you even knew the culture enough to be able to trade in the first place.
      Very few Jedi can block superheated energy blasts. Pretty much any force user can pull a Neo emulating the powers of 'The One' which renders solid projectiles useless. Trained force users will just hurl the same mass of lead back at the shooter. A decently trained Jedi can block blaster rounds. Only highly trained Form III practitioners can redirect it back at the shooter with any real precision.

      Sniper rifles yes.
      Slugthrowers which are traditional ballistics? You just permitted the Jedi the use Form Zero. A Jedi that uses Form Zero has already won. A blaster is actually far more superior to a Slugthrower because very few Jedi can use the Force to redirect energy. At that point you have forced them to draw their saber. To them that is effectively already a loss because you have forced them into a combative situation.
      Jedi do not WANT conflict. So by forcing them to switch to a combative mode, you've already placed them in a losing mindset. A Blaster will force this. A Slugthrower will just result in them becoming Neo after he becomes 'The One'.
      Mindset is very important to a Force User and it is very important if you find yourself in combat. The person who already believes themselves to have lost will not fight as hard because if the outcome is already written then there is no point and thus is more likely to be defeated. This is why skilled and powerful Jedi have to learn to overcome this mindset.
      If you really want to kill a force user? Surprise and LOTS of explosives.

    A critical element in whatever you are choosing to go up against a Lightsaber with is your weapon's durability or protective features.
    Ideally you will be using one of the actually MANY lightsaber proof/lightsaber resistant materials which include but are not limited to:
    BESKAR (Mandalorian Iron)
    SITH ALCHEMICAL STEEL
    PHRIK
    ZILLO BEAST HIDE
    If that is too exotic then a cheap and readily available option is to have a powered weapon (like a force pike or vibroblade/vibrosword) that ALSO used this particular quirk:
    MAGNETICALLY SEALED
    You can also invest in a Mandalorian or Gungan Personal Energy Shield in sizes full body to buckler.
    Lastly you have the truly exotic compounds like
    CORTOSIS
    With the property to short out a lightsaber every time it is cut by it. (Downside, is IS getting cut by it, and will eventually be whittled down by repeated strikes)

    I know it's been said before, but good ole kinetic projectile weapons, slug throwers are among the best ranged weapon to use against lightsaber wielders. Want to block a bullet? Congratulations, best case scenario you just flash vaporized a metal dangerously close to your body which will likely give you a couple nasty burns. Worst case scenario, you just turned a solid metal projectile into a molten liquid metal projectile that's still going to hit you.
    Throw enough of these projectiles at your enemy (either through high rate of fire or many projectiles at once) and even gifted force users would have to try really hard to use force powers to deflect these attacks and anyone who's not proficient/powerful enough to pull a Neo will get into trouble real fast.
    And guns are stupidly easy and cheap to make in a technology setting like Star Wars, are equally easy to use by only rudimentary trained people so a mob of normal civilians with a gun each who can shoot halfway straight will pose a significant threat to all but the most powerful and proficient force users.

      By that point, you might as well just go back to blasters because overwhelming them that way works too. The *really* effective weapon was the sonic blasters used by the Geonosians. But those don't seem to have found widespread use. All of this only applies so long as they're too dumb to not snatch your weapons right out of your hands.
      This is why I think that Jedi devote maybe too much attention to lightsaber combat and not enough to their other Force powers. Mandalorian armored in beskar? Just break their neck from 100 feet away.

    The reason the lightsaber rifle destroyed its ammunition is because it was a prototype, a proof of concept.
    If someone had actually set out to make a dedicated kyber crystal powered blaster weapon it would probably have been able to wreak much more havoc without destroying the crystal. That is after all sort of what the death star is, a scaled up version.

    in HEMA i actually really like my spear. one on one it is very hard for someone to get in close. i do like my sword as well but just not as good with it. another reason spear works well. it takes a lot of skill to become truly good with the sword, were as pretty much anyone can pick up a spear and be proficient with the basics of it. point and stab, so long as you keep the pointy end toward the person your fighting, its down to them being really fast and risk being stuck by you to get in close if they dont have a spear themselves

    • @Naraku-no-Hana-WE
      @Naraku-no-Hana-WE Год назад

      That is all also historically accurate. Spears are also easy/cheaper to construct and in many cultures also had additional attachments that could be just as lethal as the spear blade itself. Not only may they have various blades and spikes that may be mounted below the main blade, spears like the Japanese yari also had iron wrapped backends that function similar to long handled maces, smashing through helmet and skull and forcibly dismounting cavalrymen. Its only real weakness (when enemies get inside the spear's range) is largely overstated, a skilled spearmen who has trained all their life for war is still very potent at any range, the swordsman has to be more skilled than the spearman to gain the upper hand.

    no one has ever given me a good way for a jedi to fight off a projectile scatter gun. Buck shot can't be deflected, it's traveling at insanely high speeds for starwars projectiles, and even if the lightsaber can vaporize the balls, there's no way to block all of them. oh, and it's fast enough that some prewarning on the weapon firing aint gonna save you, especially if you go the AA12 route and use a full auto scatter gun. or as we know them, shotguns

      Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the PS2 era version) reached a similar conclusion. The only valid defense Jedi had against Engineer shotguns were to avoid being in front of the Engineer's weapon at all costs. Lightsaber deflection was useless against the sheer volume of pellets all being sent out at the same time, so the Jedi were better off spending their stamina on force empowered movement instead.

    Here's the thing: a polearm would have to be made of cortosis or other lightsaber-resistant material in order to not simply be lopped off (remember the scene from Kill Bill v2 where she cuts a kid's inferior sword down to the hilt through repeated strikes). These materials are both rare and expensive. Unless the Jedi is backed into a corner, traditional polearms could easily be defeated. And that's not even considering use of the Force to simply knock down tightly-packed ranks. I'll also note that a double-bladed lightsaber has a lot more in common with a bo staff in terms of combat style than a sword.

    • @tenshimusouka5820
      @tenshimusouka5820 Год назад

      Yes and no. Proper use of a Bo staff involves holding the weapon on the bottom third of the haft and threatening with the top third, not holding it in the centre, and striking with the ends.

    • @Naraku-no-Hana-WE
      @Naraku-no-Hana-WE Год назад

      I mean the person wielding said cheaper made weapon isn't a warrior and isn't expected to best a Jedi in combat... alone. Using numbers to hold them at bay they are still a potent threat, a line of spear men thrusting provides a lot of chances to score a significant wound before the Jedi breaks each of their weapons. Ofc there is still the matter of the force, an advantage that can't be bridged by mere melee weapons of any quality but that's not really the topic here.

    One exception to the rule of cultural preference for spears over swords: Roman legions. However, they compensated for the shorter range by issuing decent armor and a giant shield.

    • @MetalKing1417
      @MetalKing1417 Год назад +2

      This is the result of several things lining up- first the professionalism of the roman army, and second, the fact that this was one of the times where defense outstripped offense in importance. When the gladius was king, the huge shield inhibited some of the effectiveness of the spear,, meaning the mobility of the sword worked better with it.
      Romans did use spears though- often as thrown support weapon to soften up enemies before going in for the kill or for a means of bracing against charges.

    • @Naraku-no-Hana-WE
      @Naraku-no-Hana-WE Год назад

      Technically spear was still king in this era, it had simply evolved into primarily throwing weapons. Most battles of the era were determined by skirmishers, as commanders would decide whether or not to commit to the battle after the result of initial skirmishing. Frankly the choice of Roman Legions to move towards the pilum (throwing spear) and gladius sword over the hoplite-style spears they had previously used was because the Romans decided they couldn't outmatch greek armies with spears and phalanx tactics. Instead skirmishing spears to exploit the immobility of the phalanx followed by close combat in the gap they created was their solution. Also worth noting this style of fighting was primarily used by Romans, the Iberians they had copied it from, and the people Rome conquered and trained. The rest of the world still primarily preferred spear and pike.

    When all is said and done, a lightsaber is just a fancy plasma cutter. It has extremely short-range, it can only be wielded in a limited number of ways, it announces your presence, gives away your position, and paints a bullseye on the wielder. If you ever saw a Banzai charge during World War II, you'll often notice that the highest-ranking Japanese officer wielding a samurai sword. US soldiers were trained to shoot the officer first, because of the danger of the weapon and that the soldiers behind the officer, might lose their nerve and not attack. So shooting the Jedi with more than he can deflect is a valid strategy as the clones behind him might lose their nerve.

      In the Jedi Knight games, you can use force push to repel projectiles from flechette launchers, which are the Star Wars equivalent to shotguns.
      And don't forget when Dirge tried using his flamethrower against Obi-Wan. A Jedi Master or even Knight has enough power and mastery over their telekinesis to completely negate gunfire if they're aware of the threat.
      Best thing to shoot them with is a rifle from long range. Even if you don't kill them, you're still too far away for them to retaliate... unless it's someone like Vader. He could strangle you over a Discord call.
