I wanted to come in as a wiper since I like working on engines but since I gotta blue collar background I didn’t mind doing deck.Thing I like about MSC is the sea time which allows you to get your endorsements quicker. I’m trying to get my Able Bodied license after my first tour.
Yeah buddy!!. You gonna get that easy. Best Advice I can give is aim for the 3rd mate license. Don't get complacent at AB for too long. Sit for a little, but go out your way to get your 3rd mate license asap. Contrary to what other Mariners are gonna tell you. It's worth it. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Do it.

Honestly MSC sounds like being back in the Navy again. I did 10 years in the Navy so it looks and feels the same. MSC probably has some different Caveats than the Navy.
@@MikeMills1 I applied for Damage Controlman so not applying for entry level. Gonna use all my qualifications from being in the Navy. Do they go to sea much or are they mostly shore bound that you know of?
@francisk7997 thoughts on what? Some ships be out to sea alot some ships don't. You won't be out to sea the entire 4 months just means you will be assigned a ship and have to do a minimum of 4 to 6 months depending on what the manpower is looking like

one question i just turned 21 and so far i have my passport and TWIC is on the way and now im doing the drug test and physical tests this week after this should i go to a school and see if they pay for training and help me get my merchant mariner credential or what im not really sure what to do.

Lol be smart ? 🤦🏾 I make a easy 6 figures lol I just didn't work last year I made 40k for the year but I started working in September I took the whole year off before I started working
These trips on a boat for the jobs I would do is being home the amount of time I’m gone. So if I make 40,000 working six months and off six months. That’s the best 40,000 a year job a person could possibly have in my opinion! Any other $800 a week job is going to be 50 weeks a freaking year to make that 40 K.. so you have to look at the amount of time worked and the amount of time off.
What I like about merchant mariner is you can actually have a good home life and work six months out of the year and be home six months and spread that out over the year. Look at it like that and if you make 40,000 or 50,000 a year you’re only working like 25 weeks a year to make that. When any other job paying 40 to 50 K you will work 50 weeks a year to make it! so merchant mariner is like the best job you could imagine in my opinion!

I know some people only see the "yearly" salary but forget if I decided to not work for over half the year and then hop on a ship for thr remainder I can still make decent money. And this is as an entry level. Once you start moving up people make 50 to 60k in 4 to 5 months. And at the higher levels, I know some making over 30k a month. Lol I realize people just want to be upset about anything 😂😂
What do most mariners do for housing? Getting my mmc soon .. I have an apartment rn and Ik I’ll be gone a majority of the year if I choose msc.. any insight would be appreciated my guy! 🫡
Most guys just keep the apartment where they live unless you got family to fall back on and move your stuff back at home. But yeah most of the time people just keep there apartments or houses. No need to move unless you want to.

Yes and no. Money's better, no cutfew, more time in Port. But alot of the negatives about the navy msc has also. So definitely some draw backs

Lol be smart ? 🤦🏾 I make a easy 6 figures lol I just didn't work last year I made 40k for the year but I started working in September I took the whole year off before I started working
These trips on a boat for the jobs I would do is being home the amount of time I’m gone. So if I make 40,000 working six months and off six months. That’s the best 40,000 a year job a person could possibly have in my opinion! Any other $800 a week job is going to be 50 weeks a freaking year to make that 40 K.. so you have to look at the amount of time worked and the amount of time off.
What I like about merchant mariner is you can actually have a good home life and work six months out of the year and be home six months and spread that out over the year. Look at it like that and if you make 40,000 or 50,000 a year you’re only working like 25 weeks a year to make that. When any other job paying 40 to 50 K you will work 50 weeks a year to make it! so merchant mariner is like the best job you could imagine in my opinion!

I know some people only see the "yearly" salary but forget if I decided to not work for over half the year and then hop on a ship for thr remainder I can still make decent money. And this is as an entry level. Once you start moving up people make 50 to 60k in 4 to 5 months. And at the higher levels, I know some making over 30k a month. Lol I realize people just want to be upset about anything 😂😂

What do most mariners do for housing? Getting my mmc soon .. I have an apartment rn and Ik I’ll be gone a majority of the year if I choose msc.. any insight would be appreciated my guy! 🫡
Most guys just keep the apartment where they live unless you got family to fall back on and move your stuff back at home. But yeah most of the time people just keep there apartments or houses. No need to move unless you want to.
