  • I'm sharing tips for painting and layering with Derwent Inktense and testing them out with the airbrush! These tips, tricks and techniques will be great for beginners learning to paint with inktense. This is water soluble ink, not watercolor.
    Some of the Inktense I'm using in this video were provided to me by Derwent, some I purchased myself.

    I hit some horrid art block combined with depression through the last well *waves at last year and a half* but I'm so glad I remembered your stuff exists. I'll always happily watch your videos because I realized that you have such a similar perspective on techniques to what I like (I'm very very firmly and fondly in the 'oh I don't like that layer - time to slap more acrylic on top and keep going!' school of art) And I am utterly in love with Inktense.I think actually I first found your channel because I was trying to learn more and then realized I loved a ton of the supplies you're also liking. You are the reason I figured out how much I love the feel of Arches hot press and while I'm still really bad about getting art *done* I'm excited to keep inching along at it, and you've helped to keep me passionate.
    Just tossing a quick thanks, and some continued appreciation for these videos! Doing some re-watching and some watching new stuff since I've been more or less hiding under a rock for the past while so I've definitely missed some nice videos.
    Keep doing great art and thank you so much for sharing all that you do!

    For washes, be sure to use 100% cotton cold press paper, because watercolour applies completely different on hot press, techniques such as seamless graduated washes on hot press paper is extremely difficult to achieve, especially if you are learning. Hot press tends to cause more hard edges/cauliflowers, with cold press you can get smoother transitions and cold press is far better to learn on.

    mix the intense with a high proof alcohol instead of water and it will dry faster and puddle less. i use powdered pigments in everclear to air brush cakes I think it would be a similar process. don't use rubbing alcohol the denaturing agent is not safe to breath.

    Love this inktense painting. I am excited to see your new watercolor supplies and hope you can review what you like or don't like. I am amazed at how well the watercolor painting is turning out as I have found it to be very difficult to learn thus far. One of the main problems is correcting mistakes so hopefully you can teach us how to do that in watercolor. Thanks so much for all you do!!! Do you notice a big difference between between beginner watercolor paint and professional grade & the ame regarding watercolor brushes? Not sure what I should invest in. Thanks again!!!

    Hi Lisa.. Thank you for this video. I have the canister hobby air brush that I use to keep acrylics moist but this may work. I have used Inktense and purchased a tiny grader well two to use with them. Dunno if you will find them there but here, Ontario Canada I found them at dollar store they are only 3.5 inches tall and 1.5 wide they work well to scrap into ink well/pallet dish. Take care Thank You again.

      If the airbrush you have is single action, you won't have the control needed to get different brush stroke sizes, but it would work great with a stencil!

    I know it's two years but the spatters are caused by small chunks of pigment causing small short duration block in the spray tip. If you use a mortar and pestle to smooth the powder those spatters should be very minimal of not completely go away.

    Thanks for this video! I'm struggling with my inktense blocks right now, and I keep looking at your previous inktense videos to help me stay motivated to not give up on them yet! The fact that you're still using them years after you started using them, and had your designs featured on the tins, says a lot! I'm having trouble with the ink reactivating when I paint anything more than the lightest wash. Have you had this happen? In this video, when you're talking about the amount of water used for lighter and darker grass, it seems like you're able to apply more than a light wash. I'm using Fabrioano Studio Watercolor hot pressed 140 lb paper.

    What kind of paper do you suggest for activating the color before applying it? I've been scribbling on spare watercolor paper but I can't get a ton of color on that way because my paper soaks it up.

    I would love someone’s opinion on my inktense problem. I bought a set of the blocks, I make a wash in a dish and paint with the dissolved pigment, but when fully dry, I can still reactivate the pigment on the paper like it’s watercolour. I’m upset because I paid a lot of money for the set, and they’re simply NOT permanent. Did I get a dud set?

    Hi Lisa have you tried the pans. Yesterday asked Lindsay if she preferred the Inktense blocks or pans, Which do you prefer. Would a nutmeg grater work? Thanks for sharing.

    So if you wet the surface of inktense blocks, you can't reactivate them once they're dry?

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  3 года назад

      Only when on the paper. If you mean wetting the block itself, that will reactivate.
