Do you remember when you first got into art and tried using every single color of paint/pencil/whatever medium you owned on every painting and basically created a muddy mess? Yeah, that's me right now with my new video editor and all of it's features. What? This won't look good? I DON'T CARE! I MUST USE ALL THE THINGS!!!
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro now. I am in love with it, but there is A LOT to learn! Luckily so many people use it there are a ton of tutorials on youtube :D There are a lot of addon type things you can buy (some are free) to do the lower thirds things or the notes like I did, or even fancy transitions that my last editor didn't have.
Also... Thanks for showing how to take the sheets off the block. I learn so much from your channel. It's great to have such generosity and positivity on RUclips.
Hi Lisa, I loved that you pulled off what you called the muddy mess. It looks amazing and I love, love, love the colors you used. Thank you for showing me the white intense pencil, because I never knew that it was that opaque, i thought it was like all the watercolor pencil white. I must say, you are my Inktense GODDESS! Please tell the derwent people to put your picture on the box of how to use. I've seen a lot of people use these in a totally wrong way and didn't even know what they were and they were telling people how to use them! It almost made me want to refer them to your video's, but I was taught, if I dont have anything nice and positive to say, it's best not to say anything. The downside to that is that had I stopped and listened to any of them, I would have thrown them away. So that's why you're my Inktense GODDESS, because I haven't seen them used better ever. I love seeing chicken, hes adorable and looks like a bird I named Pansey. I had a beautiful yellow male named Leo and they breed the most beautiful cinnamon babies. Those are rare, but they had at least four or five a clutch. I was never a breeder, but I couldn't separate them even in a different cage, because they would get depressed and she almost died from it. So I never separated them again. I just love seeing baby chicken. Oh and I forgot to mention on your stream video of the turtle, if you want amazing metallic pain you must try the finetec watercolors. , they are truly the most metallic paints I've ever seen. I believe its ink or some formulation for calligraphy and that's how I found them and they have the highest metal shiny metallic look to them and an amazing array of colors along with gold, silvers and so on. I tried the Gansai Tambi ones, but they do not come close to these. I think I might have a writing video on my channel using some of them? I got mine at Merriart.com I think is the name. But I brought mine a long time ago. Thanks again for the amazing art that you share with us. And Always teaching us the right way and doing the testing and research. I think a lot of the problem is that the people who dont really use these products, but because they have a following, companies send their products based on maybe the numbers and not great content with these supplies and then people get a wrong idea of what they are and how to use? Not sure, but I'm thankful to have you, that will not promote any product that you dont use and won't. I for one appreciate that. Hugs and happiness, Briana C. 🤗💜
Really beautifully done, Lisa! Great use of those complements; makes those yellows really glow! And thanks for sharing what happened with the white. I’m sure you saved me a lot of time!
This had helped me so much and I couldn’t have been this far with inketnse without these amazing vids keep it up and I’m looking forward to watching more videos.
Hi Lisa, new subscriber here. I have only just found your channel, and I got to be honest I can't stop binge watching it! Lol.😆 I have been going through your videos, and I came across the one in which you talk about how you became close to art due to illness. I am in a similar situation, I am 42 and I have been into drawing and acrillic painting for years, but unfortunately I became ill and got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia two years ago. Even though I have always had an interest in art, especially tattooing, I have always just kept it as a hobby. But due to my medical condition, I am unable to continue with my construction career. Just like your story, I have got to the stage that I am fed up with feeling ill all the time, but I was never a sick person before I became ill with Fibromyalgia! But lately I have been bitten by the art bug again, and I have been sketching with my lovely Derwent pencils! I have been watching loads of reviews on these inktense pencils and water brushes, I am definitely going to get some soon. Thanks for your FANTASTIC videos, they have given me so much inspiration and hours of enjoyment. P.S So glad to see that you where the chosen artist for the Derwent inktense pencils lid design, I want to buy these pencils just for that fact 😉. Many thanks again, Neil x.
don't take that wrong i can keep up lol but i needed a perm base layer and medium that stays where i want it i appreciate that you've used these and aren't giving a 15 minute this is the only time i've used this , thank you
Nice work. Re watercolour reactivating, Watercolour is all about layering to create luminosity and depth. In all the time I have been doing watercolours I have never had a layer lift, and have done pieces that have more than a dozen layers. It won’t reactivate providing a soft watercolour brush is used and the previous layer is properly dry and 100% cotton paper is used. The issues with lifting I find those new to watercolour have is purely down to using pulp paper which causes layers to be more fragile as pigment stays on the surface, (rather than soak in like it does on cotton rag paper,) or not letting the layer dry properly, and also the use of cheap taklon brushes which are a little too harsh.
I never said there weren't techniques that kept it from lifting. I said that this was the biggest difference between inktense and watercolor. Inktense can not lift at all once dry.
Lachri Fine Art Thanks for clarifying. I only mentioned it because you said more than once that if this was watercolour the previous layer would lift and “it’s not going to lift like watercolour would” as though it’s a definite. I was simply clarifying this isn’t the case that it will definitely lift, and that it’s primary purpose is layering, it just needs the right materials rather than technique as even sizing can affect it’s performance. It’s a wonderful medium, that’s sadly misunderstood. 😞
Kyomii I strongly agree with Lisa, she is the art teacher here and it seems like you are trying to be some type of predator pretending to be innocent and such, Lisa is not stupid, it seems like you are giving a force information which is not needed because she didn’t ask in the first place, you writing a whole jointed paragraph tell readers you are trying to force information up her thorax which is not nice since she didn’t ask for your info and details,
Kyomii why are you giving this forcing facts about watercolour, she never bash on watercolour and suddenly you seem annoyed by her and start ranting about good brushes and watercolour techniques , Lisa is just saying that the nature of watercolour is that it lifts which is normal, I don’t know why you suddenly write a thick paragraph about watercolour when she didn’t even ask for it ... what a disgrace !!!
Ohh Lisa....you've corrupted me! Not a CP person but after watching many of your Inktense videos this one tipped me over the edge....just ordered the 72 pencils and a 24 block set!! Love the tutorials, now to practice them! TFS
You are such an inspiration to get me trying to learn more and do. I found you because I was wondering if Inktense in general would be something I wanted to try ages ago (and I love them so much) There's just something about them that takes even so-so art, and makes it LOOK so much more impressive, so as I'm learning I at least feel disproportionately awesome :D Thank you for such clear explanations and lessons. I keep putting working with art off to the side, but every time I see your videos I end up reminded of why I wanted to work on improving my ability to draw. Thank you for just being you ^.^
I just got my set of pencils, and this helps a lot in how I should apply, blend and layer the colours. which set of the blocks do you recommend 24, 36 or 72? I got the set of 36 for my pencils, my mom already had a set of 72 coloursoft pencils, and using those many was overwhelming and half I've never even touched
how is her fan base not growing?! Shes soo good. This is us in 2018 where talentless and cringy people like morgz , N&A productions get millions of subs but here when there is a seriously talented person..she isnt getting any recognition. This is soo sad...Alexa play despacito 5
I love your video, and love how you can work with the Inktense colors pencils,🥰 I love your color pallet 💜💙🧡, so beautiful! And I have a question, please, I need the answer...some people try this ink pencils, and they said, that the Inktense pencils, are not permanent...it's that correct? Because I test it, and them are permanent...what do you said about this concern?😟
Good to c Inktense project !! Great video setup !! Have u tried Pastel Pencils with Inktense. Perhaps they will work better than colored pencils.....and u can fix the pastels with damp brush.
Awesome demonstration as usual, Lisa. Question: These are so expensive, wow! Why would you use these instead of acrylic paint or just colored pencils? Also, why hot pressed vs cold pressed paper?
I’m going to go broke watching your tutorials! 🤦🏻♀️ You’ve opened my mind to new mediums that I’ve never experienced. Thank you for the inspiration! I was a diehard Prismacolor fan until I discovered your channel. I did suffer the frustration of breakage often, but I just figured that was something that I’d have to accept. I’m a HUGE fan of the Derwent soft drawing pencils, but I’ve not tried any of their colored pencils. Which sets do you prefer?
Hy Lachri. Have you ever used colored pencils form 'castle art'? I heard some good reviews but no one ever mention it's lightfastness. Can you tell me anything about them? Seems too good for their price. 😜 (then I am always complaining about art supplies's price ahahah). Thank you!
Whenever I use inktense I get discouraged because it seems like they get chalky and doesn’t seem to “stick” to the paper....am I doing something wrong? Is it the paper I’m using? Am I not dissolving the blocks or pencils right? Or are they supposed to seem chalky instead of inky and I’m viewing their capabilities wrong? I guess I think they should have a watercolor consistency instead of a grainy type consistency.
Ok that’s a good idea...I kinda gave up with inktense but every time you do a video with them it gives me the itch to try again! I will post a pic if it happens again with some better paper! Thanks for the reply!!
Great video! Beautiful picture as always! But I have to tell you something funny. When I first saw the thumbnail before clicking on it, it looked as though you had painted a caterpillar from a view of underneath it. I typically have an aversion to creepy crawlies, so I almost didn't watch it but thought the colors were still much too pretty not to watch you work your miracles with them. Finding out it was really clown fish in the painting was a wonderful surprise. Lol. So it's almost as if you painted two separate pictures in one...you know...kind of like the old lady verses the young lady picture because, if you squint your eyes at the picture, it looks like that caterpillar on a piece of glass from underneath or crawling on a window; but then it looks like the clown fish when looking at it with normal eyes at its normal size. Too funny! Just had to share that you may have stumbled onto something here for reference regarding future surreal type pictures you could create. Neato!
LOL!!! That reminds me of the time when I was younger and painted this huge mermaid painting and my dad came in, looked at it and said "you know what would be cool in this? A mermaid!". My mom and I looked at him for quite a while until he refocused and saw the entire painting was a mermaid. :D
Hi Lisa. I seem to remember some time ago that you mentioned Derwent released a list of Inktense colors that were actually lightfast, but I cannot find a list like that. Do you know of a lightfast list and, if so, can you share?
It seems like, especially the blocks, have their highest lightfast rating. Do you still disagree that they are lightfast and feel only prints should be sold?
Hahaha no. I had some videos recently where I messed up the lighting and it caused shadows on every wrinkle I didn't even know I had. Those videos seriously added like 10 years! Woops! 😂

Exactly! :D

Loving the new format of the video with the on-screen tips/information!
I'm glad you liked them!
The purples and oranges looks soo good together! And of course the clown fish area adorable 🥰
Lisa is so likeable. Her video editing has also improved, not to mention the art itself. So great
Love the touch of blue. Beautiful painting.
Also... Thanks for showing how to take the sheets off the block. I learn so much from your channel. It's great to have such generosity and positivity on RUclips.

That is so great to hear!! I have a horse in inktense coming pretty soon :D
Lovely demonstration!!
Love these clownfish, colors and especially the purples! 😍

I absolutely love the artwork you did for the Inktense tins!

I love the art work on the tin and these clownfish are gorgeous. Love all the tips you provide
Thank you Lachri for a wonderful tutorial and for the tips on how to use inktense. Your painting is so vibrant and colourful. Thanks again
Thank you :)
I just bought the 72 set of inktense pencils after watching your videos and I am loving them!
Btw love the cockatiel! I have a cockatiel too!
Thank you so much for sharing! A lot of great tips.
Glad you’re liking the arches paper; it’s my favorite for watercolor.
Nice video and painting. I love the new chicken intro, so cute.
Excellent video!
You are so talented and versatile! Thank you for sharing so many details about your process. Awesome!

I really appreciate the quality of the video (and I don't mean the resolution). Your videos keep getting better ! Keep it up :D
Just amazing... Bigggggg like full view
Love the colors!
What inktense pencil is the black? And do you have recommendation on how to do a skin or flesh tone?
Thank you for a new upload. May I ask when is the next smart art box video? Thank you
I'm not sure yet. I was considering doing the next box as apart of this Wednesday's livestream though so it might be then :)
@@Lachri :) whatever works for you
It is so amazing. Can we try this project with fabercastel instead of watercolor?
Absolutely :)

You should try the Bockingford hot press watercolour paper. For ink intense
Do they have a bigger size in that panorama shape paper? And what size paper is that?
Thanks for sharing!
Good to c Inktense project !! Great video setup !! Have u tried Pastel Pencils with Inktense. Perhaps they will work better than colored pencils.....and u can fix the pastels with damp brush.
I've not but normally I avoid pastel pencils because of how chalky they are. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad just for final touch ups though :D
Awesome demonstration as usual, Lisa. Question: These are so expensive, wow! Why would you use these instead of acrylic paint or just colored pencils? Also, why hot pressed vs cold pressed paper?

The dark/light transitions give life to the natural, angular movement of fish. Don't you think?
Wondering if you can use alcohol or odorless paint thinner with these?
They are waterbased, so just water.
Love it!
What that yellow thing made of
Do you have prints of the images on patron for us to use?
No, but you can find lots of clownfish photos on pixabay to use :)

Ok that’s a good idea...I kinda gave up with inktense but every time you do a video with them it gives me the itch to try again! I will post a pic if it happens again with some better paper! Thanks for the reply!!

Great video... just added Patreon...!
Thanks
Woah you are looking younger than before. Are you aging backward?
Hahaha no. I had some videos recently where I messed up the lighting and it caused shadows on every wrinkle I didn't even know I had. Those videos seriously added like 10 years! Woops! 😂
Good video but, over selling Derwent a little. Their water brushes are okay at best compared to some other brands
It's not overselling if it's just my opinion.
Really enjoying your purplish works. It's a good contrast from orange.
