    Thanks again for sharing your incredible talent and experience. I'd love to see more of your work in digital and traditional (acrylic, oil, or pencil) mediums, too. I've edited this to add that I'd be interested in seeing your use of the airbrush, too! If you offer full-length (real time?) videos of any of your other techniques on DVD or download, I would be pleased to purchase them, as I'm "across the pond," and not able to attend your workshops in person. :)

      Hi there Greg thank you for watching my video and for taking the time to leave such an encouraging comment! Wow truly appreciated.
      One of the art materials manufacturers that have contacted me have so with the intention of me sampling and reviewing their acrylic paints - so that will be one of your mediums ticked. The others I will get round to 😉 In regard to teaching - I don't offer any dvds or downloads at present, but my plan for this year is to build my RUclips channel and then launch a Patreon channel at the end of 2021 (hopefully just in time for Christmas). So for as little as $4 a month members will be able to access full length real time tutorials etc. xXx

    Have you always had a talent to be able to draw so perfectly or is it something you learnt ? I can never draw so realistically even after doing art for 10 years. I basically just draw animals and seeing that you are a wildlife artist I thought you can maybe share some tricks to draw the animal realistically and proportionally before using any color medium.

    • @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist
      @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist  10 месяцев назад +1

      Awe thank you for your kind comment, truly appreciated. I’ve been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. My mum said that from the age of around 4yrs I could be found in our garden drawing and painting the things I saw there; butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, toads, newts, flowers and plants and even a grass snake or two. (I’m 57yrs now) So yes it’s something that I’ve always done and had a passion for. I class myself as a self taught artist as I never had tuition, just letting the natural world inspire me. However, I truly believe everyone can learn to draw and paint, realistically if that’s what you want to achieve. Firstly know that practise makes progress (never perfection). The more you draw the more you learn. Observation will be your best friend if this is something you want to achieve. As the more you get to know your subject the easier it will be to sketch, draw and eventually paint your chosen subject. When starting to sketch your subject take the pressure of yourself by using a normal graphite pencil (an HB pencil will do) and a piece of cheap paper (I often sketch on printer paper). Start with light shapes to form the posture and proportions, slowly apply darker lines when you begin to see the shapes and lines you want to preserve. Once you’ve created a sketch/drawing you can then transfer the lines you like to a piece of paper, canvas or board ready for the application of colour. There’s a video on my channel showing how I sketch a squirrel if you’d like to take a look. If you have any questions in particular I’d be more than happy to try and help you xXx

    Hi Kerry. So lovely to hear from you. Your Iguana is absolutely stunning. Thank you for demonstrating your techniques when creating scales. Just a question about the Inktense, does it matter that they are not "lightfast". Would you sell an original piece or only the prints made from it? (-: Marion

    • @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist
      @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist  3 года назад +1

      Hi there Marion I hope you're keeping well. Thank you for your ongoing support and comments of encouragement - all of which are truly appreciated.
      Regarding your question - Derwent says this "87% of the range is lightfast, however once water is added, lightfastness ratings will be different depending on how much each colour is diluted. If you are looking to keep your Inktense art for as long as possible, we advise you keep your artwork out of direct sunlight." So with this in mind I'll be framing the originals behind UV protective glass, and would only sell to a buyer who has been fully informed of the pigment properties. However, I will be making prints so that's the bonus of this wonderful medium, as they are completely mat when dry and photograph/scan perfectly. I hope this helps Marion xXx

    • @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist
      @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist  Год назад +1

      Hi there Merv, well you already have my favourite watercolour pencils 👍🏻 and now that you've purchased some of the Inktense pencils you'll have a fun-filled creative time indeed.
      'Best for birds and wildlife' will always come down to personal preference and the style in which you like to work. I like to use the Inktense when I want the colour within the project to pack more of a punch so to speak. Now that you have a selection of both I would encourage you to do a couple of trial runs before commencing a more in depth project. Get a feel for working the mediums separately (even if that means just making a couple of swatch sheets - which I thoroughly recommend doing anyway), then try mixing the two. Your watercolour pencils will enable you to create washes and out of focus areas easier to begin with, as they wont 'stain' the paper as easy as the Inktense can. Remember that the w/c can be lifted when dry but the Inktense (once wetted) will be permanent. If you have any specific questions regarding either please feel free to ask xXx

    • @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist
      @kerrynewell-wildlifeartist  2 года назад

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment - truly appreciated ☺️ When using Derwent Inktense, as you add water the pigment becomes permanent. However if you wanted to create a mixed media piece then you could add extra layers of coloured pencil, gouache, or even acrylic over the inktense base layers (but not the other way round). Hope this helps xXx

      Hi there, first of all may I take this opportunity in saying thank you for watching my video - truly appreciated. I understand that ‘colour choosing’ can be difficult when starting out with a new medium, that’s why I always recommend creating a ‘swatch sheet’ of your colours first (swatching the Inktense range is a huge help as the colours look quite different once water has been added). Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to look to see which colour I’m working with at any particular moment during a painting. Also I often mix colours to create a unique hue or tone. The truth is colour isn’t that important, contrast is more important in any completed painting. When I’m working on a project and need a green for instance, I first think ‘do I need a warm green or a cool green?’ And then take it from there. It really is that simple so try not to overthink things. If you try one green and it isn’t right just put it down and try another. If you find it easier, try sampling colours on a spare sheet of paper before adding them to your painting (I do this) I hope all of this will be useful for you xXx
