140,000 cars per day. 5 bucks each. 700,000$ per day. 250,000,000$ a year. It'll be paid off in 16 years. Lifespan of 100 years. A good investment.
Only possible because of low interest rates. Otherwise normally the toll would have to be twice as much.
Nick13ro and if private companies were financing it, it would cost a fraction of what it did
lcagee your math is off by a lot because it costs a lot to maintain a bridge. In fact, the only objective of tolls is to meet maintenance costs
It's a joke, as an upstate New Yorker, they will never take down the tolls. They keep them up and pay the fines and still rape us with tolls 20 years later. That's how NYS works
lcagee its not 5 bucks i live in staten island and its 5 and change and i am a residence. anyone else its 17 bucks or 12 for ez pass holder current me on that amount for 12. also commercial traffic is $22 per axle. so a semi pays about $105. so yeah a little more then your equation....
Fix the subway!
mtw251 and the roads please...👏😂
Nobody, and I mean _nobody_ is going to call it The Mario Cuomo Bridge. It's just The New Tappan Zee.
I'm a big admirer of Mario and Matilda Cuomo, though true, I know the Tappan Zee Bridge in upstate new York, too. Julie Ann Racino, ASPA, 2019
HailAnts lmao yes, exactly what I’ve been saying the entire time.
What is the reason behind this..
Seriously! So lame!
@@bilaljaved2705 Ego
I applaud the media for presenting something positive -
more good news please !
It's a waste of money. The freeway system doesn't have this many lanes so lots of it will go unused and cause bottlenecks on mergers. And commuters have to foot the bill in sky high tolls.
I agree, more good news!
You can't expand everything at once. At least they're planning for the future and building to allow growth.
It took 4 billion to build this one bridge. Who would be willing to fund the construction of new roads on the rest of the thruway system to support it.
Its not a waste of money. Its a good investment and needed to be done ..Its nice seeing some good news. This is how to make america great again..
"on time and on budget"
Thanos: *impossible*
Rebuilding our country's infrastructures is how we will make America great again by putting Americans back to work rebuilding infrastructures and using and making the 'made in the U.S.A.' materials.
Made by a democrat
1 For The People Only if a President wanted to do just that, years ago
Not going to happen. Construction jobs require skills we don't have. The contractors will get rich, the politicians will get votes, we still will be unemployed without benefits... Nothing gets better in the USA but keep on rockin in the "free" world. Lol
Marcel Rodriguez well it's good that most industrial workers don't get paid anywhere near minimum wage :)
Tbiblaine23 which is actually total bs. But ok. Keep believing it.
A very good replacement
ABRAHAM GRANT sure but at what cost? I’m not from NY I’m from CA and I’m tired of the tolls across a bridge when the government is supposed to provide it.
@@jonathanavila9699 Its a 5$ toll
Cooper Bennett five dollars one way, is 10 in 2, but if thee need an extra $10 taken out of each daily paycheck to use the bridge, some thing that should be an artery of city commerce and public transportation, by all means.
When I drive over it, gps gets confused
DSAK55 - get a garmin. Trash that tom tom gps
It's a beautiful bridge. I've traveled over the old & new many times. And i will always call it the Tappan Zee Bridge. What's old is newer, but the name stays forever!
same with the battery tunnel
It's good to see we can still make incredible things. I wasn't even aware of this project. It seems incredibly difficult to build bridges and skyscrapers. My compliments to all 7000 workers who did a great job.
lcagee Check out the blancolirio RUclips channel and follow the repair project on the Oroville Dam in California. He's a pilot who lives in the area and has a great way of finding information out from the engineers and making it understandable. Keiwit Construction is doing the job, the biggest concrete construction project going on right now in the entire country. It's great stuff!!
Im gonna miss that old bridge, but its served its time (1955-2017)
They haven’t taken down Brooklyn or Golden State so I disagree.
how can you miss a bridge? it's so big and the only way across to the other side was across the bridge so i don't get it how can you miss it ?
🤪
Why was the bridge named after him instead of a historical New Yorker?
Tytygh It could very well be ego, regardless of political affiliation
It's not named after him. It's named after his father, who is a famous New Yorker
Marcus fuller it's named after his father, and his father is a historical New Yorker.
Maybe the son, Governor Andrew Cuomo (now in his third term, usually named after himself, by the way), wished to commemorate his father, Gov. Mario Cuomo, who passed in 2015 and was Governor of New York while his mother First Lady Matilda Cuomo was still living. Julie Ann Racino, ASPA, 2019
Cause he was the only one who had the balls to oppose the corrupt politicians and invest in Infrastructure
Now take that same 3.9 Million and fix the NY Subway System.........OK?
Not the tenors problem. YOU select the NYC mayor and YOU can call up YOUR MTA and complain. :-)
Chris Benoit's Daycare How so Chris? Is that because usage is at an all time level? Then tax the automotive users entering the city to raise repair/enhancement revenue for the subway system.
Rodney Morgan Brown Billion...Billion
@Rodney Morgan Brown Be careful what ask for that is supposed to be in the works but it can lead you to a $40 one way fare. No fare or toll stays the same in NY. The did one decrease on MTA in 2001 found corruption then raised it again about 1-2 later. Bunch of B.S.!!! Off the backs of the working-poor...
Actually, MTA is under State of New York authority
I remember going over the old Tappan Zee Bridge on my last trip to New York City as a teenager. The view was breathtaking as it passes over that wide expanse of the Hudson River. The width on that part of it is as wide as either of the two largest finger lakes - Seneca or Cayuga Lake. Here in New York State we have some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S., at least in my humble opinion.
But we have the worst politicians.
+ReturnoftheBrotha Well, compared to where I'm from it's a lot to see.
And the worst economy and the highest taxes and the most corrupt democrats and republicans in the nation.
jelly bean 17 and the only reason it's built the is because they didn't want to share money with port authority. Government at it's finest
ReturnoftheBrotha I got in an accident the last time I drove over it, so yeah there is
Really lame to rename the bridge.
It's a new bridge though?
"Built on time and on budget" Then they say "built and designed by a private company"
That is why
Greg F. But roads are a Federal Government responsibility under the US Constitution!
Because companies cant getaway with low balling a bid then overcharging once they get the contract. Basically they cant get away with ripping off the taxpayer, it's their own money.
Tapan Zee bridge was well overdue, traffic snarls, glad they built a new bridge.
You know that's not AMERICAN steel. LMAO.
PlorallyMagued Made in China. I’ll give it couple years before it collapses 😂🤤🤤 Yee Yee
Pittsburgh is nearby so it probably is
100% Manufactured in America Steel
STFU you Trumper
The republicans don't really care about American Infrastructure. They would rather see America look like a dump while they happily spend $1 Trillion every year on The Military
The crane was originally called The West Coast Lifter.
If only NJ Gov Christie had not stopped the third Hudson River RR tunnel.
Hannah Miyamoto that was a bad plan and the rail advocacy groups opposed it. Unfortunately no one came up with an alternate plan
What would have been better? No matter what, Penn Station needs a third Hudson tube.
It was way over priced
@@HSMiyamoto at a lot lower cost
@@dknowles60 - If you have a magic wand, lend it to Gov. Cuomo. I live in reality, but that's just me.
I drive on the Tap communting to school and to the palisades mall for years...pretty cool to see the progression of the new bridge and cannot wait to drive on it!
4:12 He is completely wrong, as induced traffic has been a known problem for quite some time. You can never build your way out of traffic.
it will always (at least for a generation) be the Tappen Zee Bridge. (I think it would have been classier to have retained the lovely, historic, original name>)
I've crossed the bridge many times
Is beautiful
I drove past the construction of the new Bridge 2x a week for 6 months while I was commuting from PA to Andover, MA for consulting work. Sitting in traffic on Friday afternoons watching them lift these massive spans was a sight I would never forget, but as I sat on the old, swaying and shaking TappanZee, holding my breath in hopes that I could make it to the Otherside so that someday I could drive on the new bridge.
I finished my working gig in Andover, Mass in Sept of 2015, then I set up email alerts on the progress for the new bridge opening and I made it a point to make sure I could drive across it on day one. So I got up that morning and made my way to NY, 2 hours from my home, and stayed overnight at a local hotel just so I could be ready to cross the new span. The night before I crossed using the original span and then the next new day I was using the new bridge. it was amazing, beautiful to look at and a memory I will have for life.
As a native of Bridgeport, CT with family still in the area of Bridgeport I utilize this bridge on every visit to see my family and even in 2020 I look in awe at this bridge and smile knowing America can still build great things.
If you have never driven across the old Tappan Zee bridge you never knew the fear you would have wondering if this was the day it was going to break apart and collapse into the Hudson, it was exciting and scary at the same time and known by the NY locals as the Hold Your Breath bridge. The best part of my history of using the old Tappan Zee is having a shirt I bought in 2018 once both spans of the new bridge were finally opened was this shirt that says I drove on and survived the original Tappan Zee bridge.
This is A Very Nice Bridge, one day I would like to travel on it!
FordMustangYT I have and it’s nothing special. Just a replacement.
@@NYKID10014 he's a foamer...
i travel on it. I walked on it yesterday. it's beautiful
If you say live in Nyack, and work in Tarrytown; then for most months you can bike across as they have a pedestrian bridge now. Maybe too cold in the winter.
Do you know when will the second new bridge open
What was the name or source of the vintage footage from when the Tapanzee first opened
Does it really matter? Are you building a library of bridge documents? Do you work for a newspaper? Seriously? Foamer
a private company completing on time and budget.. i though only government could do that lmao
Those blue bridge pieces were shipped from the North Carolina State Port in Morehead City, North Carolina.
Unbelievable is that they had it named after their family. Tappan Zee is a great name.
...that's the thing.... "...rebuild America". I am happy that my favorite city of the world is finally getting a facelift it so long deserved!
If it is your favorite city, then why are you implying that you don't live there? Oh it's because that same guy, makes it impossible for foreigners to live in New York... The price you pay for beauty. Just thought you should know that new York is not all glitz and glamour
I was scratching my head over the holiday because it cost about $5 more the driving to the city then it did in 2017. Well this explains why. It was nice driving from upstate to the city for less than $3 by avoiding the George Washington bridge. With that being said, it was a safer drive this time around though
“We’re gonna have to see what the finances for the state are in 2020.”
Ummm…yikes
Thought the same thing
If only we had adults in charge from the beginning.....
I literally remember going to the palisades mall and seeing the construction on this new bridge. It is great
There are plenty of other positive stories about building projects in the United States. The problem is that nobody wants to report on successful projects. New York and Los Angeles media companies don't bother with the fly over and corner States. Seattle has more construction cranes in operation than any other city in North America. Stuff is happening, and has been for many years. Get out of the glass bubbles you media people live in and you might actually see folks working hard to make this country a better place.
Brian Garrow If it is as good as you say it is, why does our country have a D+ in infrastructure?
This is how Liberals and Demonicrats work. They want to destroy America
@@fuckheinschitt239 Oh go stuff it pal. The real threats to a free country are the traitors who tried to overthrow the legitimately elected congress of the United States. Take your right wing talking points and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine.
hey!! when will they build a subway to staten island/richmond area ...?
I Love Seeing this Video on New Bridge being built in NYC I can't wait to see it finished soon after they finish built the bridge.
New York took a leaf out of California's book both have cantilevers and they need to be taken down and replaced with cable stay.
The I lift New York crane was actually built to construct the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge and New York got it second.
This bridge is a weekend project for the Chinese.they have built briges over seas and laid elevated bullet train tracks over thousands of km in last 5 years....
Adam West But you need to think further into it... this is one state of 50 not including territories that is completely funding this with mostly private companies. If the US Government was funding this and supplying workers, im sure it'd go faster
Adam West the chinese bridge keep falling
They have absolute power. They have to consider other people and things in New York.
Will their "made in China" projects las 100 years, though?! 🤔
Some of the oldest bridges on the planet are in China. They may cheap out on some things, but bridges are not one of them. They have been building bridges before Jesus was even thought of, I think they know what they are doing.
So corrupt they name the bridge after his father another politician. These guys are so full of themselves to take credit for this.
@EpiDemic117 The naming rights should be leased out to companies so that we can lessen the tax burden on the citizens. We would also avoid situations like this where bridges are named for politicians who swindled their way into office. This is New York State's Imperial bridge named after our ruling family, the Cuomos. Really gross stuff that could be avoided with a solution which would help pay for a significant portion of the bridge.
chris Vinci most corrupt bridge in America! Rockefeller’s has it built on the widest part of the Hudson to use as much steel as possible and the idiot cuomo family proudly puts their name on the new one
Too bad they never end the tolls or lower them once they reach the construction cost.
WAY TO GO NY AND GET THINGS DONE POLITICIAN. NEED MORE LIKE THAT.
Perhaps this should be ,''One of those things we got right'' stories for the year, perhaps even decade?
Wow now that is a one heck of a view !
Why didn’t they build a observatory at top of one or two of the towers?
I walked the old Bridge, TappanZee. Ferry boats can be put into service , across the Hudson.
Funny how she shook her head before he started talking. Lots of females doing that lately
On time and on budget wow
yea because they will rape people on tolls....Louisville has a similar new bridge, but now they are trying to make all bridges toll because people avoid it. $6 if yo`re not registered, $3 if you are....That`s 30 bux a week if you work across the river...bs
Wow, what a fluff peice!
Impressive. Now replace the George Washington bridge.
Peter H and name it the Cuomo Family bridge lmao
New York Twin bridges something doesn't feel right
You got that right... Was looking for this comment
What's the fuss about it? Bridges like this are being built every day in China.
That super crane was probably built in China...
g w Bridges like that are collapsing every day in China. The Chinese make low quality steel.
OH, your president likes to use Chinese steel. :)
GW what are you talking about? Chinese steel is illegal in the US
finance.yahoo.com/news/where-trump-is-right-on-china--it-s-dumping-steel-193103355.html
90% of Chinese steel companies are heavily subsidized or outright owned by the Chinese government. Purchase of steel from those companies is illegal.
And name calling just demeans you.
I had a panic attack driving over that bridge.. it’s massive.. I looked down at the water and started getting sick ..
Long Island with 8 million people and all exits at one end -You need to complete Orient Point Watch Hill bridge with air train connecting LIRR w/Connecticut
Looks great. We need more mega projects like a Lake Michigan bridge connecting Wisconsin and Michigan or Illinois and Michigan. We could use subways and trains extending out into the suburbs as well.
Have you ever seen Lake Michigan? Do you have ANY idea what the bridge you are talking about would be like? You are talking about a bridge almost 90 miles long across some very deep and treacherous water.
Excellent! Mario Cuomo bridge and Javitz Centre are two of NY states TOP infrastructures. Andrew is a raw visionary and history will show it - I can't wait on history. A lot of people talk a lot of game but Andrew walks the talk #cuomowillbridgethegap #cuomoisourbridge Cuomo is bridge is a model for big building in America
On time and on budget. Give thanks to skilled union labor .
I was just watching 'The Men Who Built America' on PBS over the 4th of July weekend. Governor Andrew Cuomo's name should be added to that list. Nrw Yorker's should be very proud!
I remember when the crane came down on the Tappan
Luke C. That's so cool 😎 you got to see that. I remember one year they brought the big Christmas tree 🎄 down by barge.
I don’t like going over bridges 🌉 that’s over water. 💦
Make The RFK the Triburo again.
impressive looking new bridge.
Awesome 👍😄
I LOVE NEW YORK , USA, I HOPE GOOD RESTORATION COMES SOONER !
Say what you like about Cuomo. I personally think he's a real piece of work and do not agree with his political views. This bridge would not have been completed without him, which alleviates thousands of traffic hours and time wasted trying to cross the archaic Tappan Zee Bridge. Even if the overall lifetime costs of this bridge double, it will have been more than worth it in commerce that it supports throughout it's lifetime.
Infrastructure is generally always money well spent. It baffles me that it took them this long to even start this stupid bridge. Thank you Cuomo!
How much is the toll?
Hershey Sperber did your even watch it?
We needed a new Tappan Zee Bridge...Frank
Nothing like his father ! New York , You need to recall your Governor !!!
I just name the bridge after my last name.
the people pay for it and they give it there name
I bet if the ancient romans had built it, it'd last a few thousands years, rather than 100.
Move out of New York like I did...... Way better in another state.
Nah
You moved cuz you can't afford it... Be real. Or your big company got "relocated" cuz they couldn't afford it. People like yourself that brag that left are only bragging because you have maybe a few extra thousand a year in your pocket.... Would you like a few more pennies uncle scrooge? If you were actually intelligent, you would just be able to make more money... Instead you are stuck. Can't leave, can't make more, you know what we call them? Slaves
Could improve the LIRR
God bless USA.
Good metric is how long it would take the Chinese to build, and how much.
2:40 - Why shoes it say AMERICAN steel?🤔
because it's important we stop importing from other Country's and start using our resources from our own soil. There's been a big push in recent years and people will give a side eye if it's not American sourced.
This bridge is the only way to cross from most of New York State to the New York City side of the Hudson River without going through New Jersey, if I remember correctly.
There is also the Bear Mountain Bridge up past West Point. Very pretty scenery up there.
a smart move
why they built two new bridges
How many injuries deaths???
Lol Verrazano been paid off multiple times over and the toll is 18$, great another toll to pay. Try getting out of the tri-state area without paying a single toll, it’s impossible😭
Mario had bones in his closet.
That's why he never ran for POTUS.
So charge the people now like a tax?
There has always been a toll on The Tap
Where was Fredo?
I will continue to call it the Tappan Zee I will never call it Cuomo Bridge.
Now I see where it got the name from.
I could have saved them $$, and built that thing with some 2x12s😁😁😁😁
👏
Well done, NYers.
9 million hours is 1027 years wtf!!! It took that long
Why not just name the bridge after the people? I just don’t like politicians stamping their names on public works.
So can they fix the subway.Please.
"Education"... LOOOOOL, how's that working? IT'S NOT!
Is tearing down the old one included in the cost figure?
Anyway, nice to something positive because much of America is NOT working.
Find positive progress in the homeless people problem in any US city.
How come they can’t do that with Americas public transportation system
Why can't they build a cheap bridge that works for 1/10 the price? Everything has to be "State of the art" for these criminals... I mean politicians.
Leaving aside the digs at the corrupt governments there are practical reasons. The Hudson River is pretty wide at that point, it is subject to tidal currents, plus there is a lot of traffic on the river. In addition the bridge has to carry a lot of vehicular traffic... that's what it's for after all. They might have been able to build a cheaper bridge, but not that much cheaper, and certainly not for 1/10 the cost.
Name it after Rodney Dangerfield
70k for the crane to pass through the panama canal this bridge tolls will go up tax paying people are being robbed...
70k is absolutely NOTHING in regards to the scale of this project
