It's interesting to see a British expert explain the land disputes around Asia. They have some great insights, considering the British were the ones who drew up these borders on a whim 150 years ago.
It is impressive the number of places around the world that are in conflict now with borders that England created.
@@TDurden527 not as impressive as how many commie apologists blame the U.S. for what the British created conditions for.
Exhausting.
Who cares? Im not British but do we always want to be stuck in the past? What does it matter what happend back then? Why don't we go back a couple of hundred years more when china invaded the place? Is that how we resolve the conflicts of today by going back further and further and saying "i can't belive this country would do what basically every other country did throughout history"?
@@TDurden527 It’s as if any of these conflicts didn’t exist in the prior borders before the British. The conflicts are made much more prominent because of technological and societal advancement and have nothing to do with any borders the British drew. This issue would likely exist regardless and it’s due to an imbalance of power and ideology between an incumbent power and its growing rival neighbour.

In 1975, Sikkim was annexed by India. Bhutan, as a neighboring country, is not stupid. The Bhutan are a country established by Tibetans after migration. Bhutan and Tibet have the same culture and ethnicity. Bhutan is very different from India, both in culture and ethnicity. Bhutan's diplomacy and military are controlled by India. The British Empire left Bhutan, but Bhutan have to meet the Indians who have no bottom line. The key is that the per capita GDP of Tibet is five more times that of India. As a result, Indians covet the land of Tibet every day and say that they want to liberate Tibet. In the eyes of other countries, it is similar to North Korea saying that it wants to rescue Americans out of poverty.

We cannot talk about Bhutan without talking about Sikkim. Like Bhutan, Sikkim was an independent Himalayan Buddhist kingdom many hundreds of years old and a neighbor of China. Sikkim was briefly overrun by the Nepalese Gorkhas during the 18th century. The Sikkim king fled to China and asked for help. The then Qianlong emperor dispatched an expedition force to Sikkim and expelled the Gorkhas and restored Sikkim's sovereignty and independence. Sikkim was left unmolested for the rest of its history until it was gobbled up by the artificial country India in 1975. Chinese of older generations were taught that Sikkim was one of China's neighbors. Even student in Taiwan (Republic of China) were taught Sikkim was one of China's neighbors until a couple of decades ago. Bhutan is very similar to Sikkim in terms of ethnicity, language, religion and culture and history, only that it is bigger. Bhutan is in a precarious situation right now because it is the next low hanging fruit in India's expansionism and is currently militarily occupied by India. The reason I wrote this here is to educate the people in the world what is going on in that part of the world and stop indulging India, a country that is up to no good.
India is useful to the west so the media doesn't talk about India's expansionism AT ALL.
Why do you think Bhutan is occupied by Indian military.
Bhutan doesn't have its military infrastructure India helps Bhutan to provide safety . India also include more than billion dollars aid from its budget to Bhutan it is highest among all the neighbours
@@TAUNDER. Provide safety for what? Bhutan is a neighbor of China for many hundreds of years before the artificial country India even existed. Who was providing safety for Bhutan then? This is the reason India is so allergic for Bhutan having diplomatic countries with most countries. Please do not lie. India is not providing billions of dollars aid to Bhutan. Why doesn't India sign a mutual defense pact with Bhutan? Or an agreement to build a base in Bhutan?
That is their style.
Bhutanese ❤ from India.
Ha ha. Bhutanese are relatives of Tibetans. They don't look Indian.

Not to worry, Indian military has been present in the streets of butan for quite a while.
Bhutan does not want to end up like Sikkim.
What...
Bhutan doesn't want to end their culture and sovereignty like Tibetan
Sikkim is free and one of highest per capita state of india. Tibbet lost their identity and culture due to Chinese communist party.
If China keeps pushing Bhutan, Bhutan will have No Option Left other than merging into Indian Union for Territorial Security.

It should be noted that this ridiculous boundary, which is incomprehensible, was left by the British in order to use regional disputes to achieve their continental balance-of-power strategy in relation to British geopolitical tactics.

How come Bhutan can't settle a boundary disputes with China without India's permission? Isn't Bhutan a sovereign country? To me it looks like India is the one who's middling in Bhutan foreign policy not China.
yes
Bhutan has been bullied by India all the time.
Bhutan has treaties with India. Yes, India has good control over it and Bhutan should have its sovereignty to decide its international relations. However, being on the Indian side means that India pushes them to have their defined territories by international boundaries respected. China has a bunch of border issues with everyone else and definitely does not resolve them diplomatically, but by force as we have seen recently. Bhutan will be able to do nothing to prevent Chinese military from encroaching on their territory.
Bhutan doesn't even recognises or have any diplomatic relations with china. It fears chinas expansion, as we have seen in case of tibet. Bhutan have no other choice but to increase relationship with india to counter china, and not get merged with china.
Yeah we who what happened to Tibet, Bhutan ain't fool, they know history and history repeats.
Seems that Bhutan is not fully sovereign to make its own decisions. Why not a news story on a UN member nation not having full autonomy in foreign relations?
It is hoped that Bhutan can gain independent sovereignty, especially diplomatic sovereignty. Avoid becoming the second Sikkim.
