Thanks man. This helped me to buy a used vehicle and not let a dealership roll all over me. They tried 2 tactics. 1 showing me a lot of extra numbers.(doc fees, Gov fees etc.) 2. the sales manager as a backup to close on real numbers. After 3 hours they gave me what I needed and what was reasonable. thanks to your breakdown I didn't get confused!

The best sales people are the younger ones without much following (repeat business) and experience. These people will be more honest with you since they want your money either way. They can make it from volume sales or percentage on overall vehicle sale. They usually don't care since they get paid either way. You'll find out you make more money being honest in the long run. People will recommend you fast!

I won't pretend to speak for most people, but I've bought three new cars, and every time I either knew what I was paying before I ever talked to the dealer, or I went home and thought about it over night after hashing out a price. "I have to think about it" was never an "excuse" for anything. I'm the buyer. I don't need any "excuse," nor would I buy from some one with such a condescending attitude.
Listening works better than this imaginary mind reading skill.

When I say " I'll think about it" it usually means I'm gonna go home with a clear head and do the math myself and look at my finances and see if I still feel the same way the next day instead of of getting caught up In the idea of getting a new car.. It doesn't always mean I'm going to another dealership sometimes I genuinely will go home and think/talk about just that particular car and deal. For me if the sales person is too pushy it's a turn off if they allow me to go home and think about it without the pressure I'm more likely to go back

In sales, create relationships. Long term relationships. Befriend the dealer and let them know you are looking to deal with them for years to come. In order to do this, you must find the salesman who is on the same wavelength. Even if he leaves Dodge and goes to Toyota, you have an expert in the industry.

In all honesty Dealer B is the one I would go with. You end up with the same car, you end up owing the same amount of money and you feel better because you think you got more money for your trade-in. The true "rule" of retail is to always make the buyer feel they are getting more bang for their buck (ie. more for their money). Your big sell is on the honesty system. Your trying to make the customer feel all warm inside by letting them think you are not hiding anything and being completely honest. It's a good way to make a sales pitch. Dealer B is trying to make the customer warm inside by thinking they are getting a better deal on the trade-in. They are both sales ploys and are both legal.
The only true way to get the "best deal" is to walk in with cash in your back pocket and play each dealer off against each other.

I bought a car from a dealer, the paper work was changed afterwards. They used a 2 page contract, the first page had the numbers the second page was the signature page. It took three days after we done the deal get the vehicle and the contract. They changed the the interest rate and added a year the finance contract. This was done to arrive back at the payment I needed. They raised the interest rate and added a year, 5 years to 6 years. The car was financed the Chrysler capital the car was repoed and the the loan is in collections now with santander.

    • @ModernGolfer
      @ModernGolfer 6 лет назад +2

Depends on the State. Might not pay tax on rebates, and of course one NEVER pays tax on a trade-in. In fact, it would be a great joke to charge the dealer sales tax (and deduct that from your total price) since the dealer is 'buying' the car, another (in this example) $672 in YOUR pocket! ;-)

The second deal is better because the taxable amount on the new purchase is less on the structure B by a few thousand dollars. The taxable amount on a purchase of the new car is the amount left after deducting the value of your trade-in. A rebate is also taxable. So you pay more tax on the structure A than you pay on the structure B.

Not 'wasting my time', at all, LOL. I like car shopping, and love haggling. It's especially great g-r-i-n-d-i-n-g on the dealerships. Ya see, they HAVE to sell cars to stay in business. Customers DON'T have to buy a car from them. Yep, that's how it ACTUALLY works, in the real world.

I like your videos, but I look at invoice price, then will take rebates and discounts from there. I have been told to ask invoice price and how much below invoice they will sell for. On at least 4 cars purchased, I have done this. It is at that time I will then discuss trade and if I wish to agree with numbers. It is then you need to deal with the finance office to see how they will try to fleece you.

How does it work if your an out of state buyer? I was told that you can request bill of lading / bill of sale and register in your home state... and pay the tax / title / tag there. I was able to do this as an active duty soldier stationed in MD and in Alaska we had no sales tax on new vehicles. Is this how it works in any state? (It saved us about $2,500 in the long run)

I've had dealers if I buy from another dealership I will need to take it back there for service. If I don't it may be put last in line after their customers. So I'm forced to pay more for better repair service.

Mike- example A is upside down on his buying of new car. That is bad. His trade in value drove it upside down. So when is a good time to buy a new car? Trade in values decrease greatly the 1st 2 years..

Question. I recently purchased a vehicle in Illinois. I know state law is different state to state. In my deal sales tax was calculated on sales price of the vehicle. And after that I was given manufacturer rebates. So. Bottom line is sales tax calculated after manufacturing rebates or before? Thanks

That 1200 dollar discount is usually down to invoice. If you buy at invoice minus rebates you're leaving cheddar on the table.

Agreed! No mention here of dealer holdback or volume discounts. Example Honda should go deep below Invoice due to the dealer compensation model. End of month, end of quarter, end of year. Vid ought to be titled "Best Deal for Dealer"!

  • @metfan34

well the mistake the customer would make in this scenario is to tell the other dealership what the other dealer offered for their trade etc... the customer should only go in and ask for the best bottom line out the door price from each dealership and not tell the dealers what the others offered until they have all bottom line prices from all the dealerships.

That math does not add up on b because your trade can be greater at one dealer Bc ever dealer has a different rebate program plus the Equity in the vehicle pricing on car very from county to county bc of travel time and cost for fuel for truck not every dealer pays the same for new cars and use different credit bureau to set pricing

I watched your video on how to tell if your deal is false or a bait and switch. Here is my question. When I bought my truck it had a $1500 mfg rebait. They told me out on the lot. Then when we got into the finance office they pointed out the dealer rebates. I was talking notes and kept coming up $1500 to much. I ask the questions, you told me on the lot it has a $1500 mfg repait, when I came in here you told me the dealer rebait. One is from the dealer and the other is from the mfg. both are for the buyer. They said no, they offered dealer rebait and they “the dealer kept the mfg rebait”. I told them that I had to have both, they changed to contact. They then called me back 4 days later and said their bank couldn’t do the interest rate and it would have to go up. Turns out the interest rate increase over 4 years was $1700 more, I told them I would bring the truck back. Bottom of contact said “all sales are final. How do you handle this situation???

I am looking to get a dodge challenger 392, been looking for a used one as I couldnt afford the payments on new. I just finnished paying off my car a 2013 mazda cx-5 (I live in maine, need the AWD). so i plan to garage the challenger. problem is finding a used one with the options i want. sunroof, 392 scat pack, manual 6spd transmission, and navigation. all the car sites out there dont list all the dealerships for used cars. I hate dealerships. most are kinda scammish, and play the whole "run the numbers by the boss" delay tactic.. I really hate that.. or they have you test drive the top tier car, but quote you for a base model when the numbers dont fit their profit..

What he doesn't say is it cost dealers money to keep a car on the lot. This plays into ur hands both when a car just arrives @ the lot or if it been there awhile. Also car salesman and mangers work on numbers, so last day of the month is truly a great time to buy also end of the fiscal year.
