I was finishing up my last build- 92 XLH1200- and found a failed module. After seeing this video, I bought 2 LED capable flashers on eBay for about 7 bucks delivered. I mounted them where the original ignition module was, and it passes inspection! It took no time at all to get used to holding the button when I needed someone to see a signal. Thank you!

If I remember the automotive application of the *heavy-duty* two-terminal flasher plugin, the heavy duty flash relay was useful when using with more than two lamps on each side of the vehicle, (such as when towing a trailer with lights). (Handles more / extra current draw through the flasher). Thanks for showing your installation. Good stuff‼️ (Like always). 😊

If ya ever want to go full nostalgic, get a manual from the 40s or 50s. Yes, Harleys had turn signals back then. From the factory or dealer installed. I've seen some variations. But for example. On the right handlebar, ya had a 3 position flip or rocker switch. Left- off - right. Also on the handlebar, ya had a push button. So ya flipped switch A to the direction ya wanted to signal, and held down the button. And yes, there was the old style blinker/flasher upstream of the rocker switch. The signals flashed as long as ya held the button down! But this was also the era of 6-volt systems, so if yer generator and/or battery was weak, the headlight and taillight dimmed too!

Nice simple, well executed fix. Simple is the best.

Because the controller is only looking for a complete 12v circuit to activate the blinkers. 1 push on, 1 push off, excluding self cancelling/automative processing in the controller. I do believe you are a girl after my heart! I think everything is way overpriced these days. If I can simplify something at a lower cost I will give it a go in a heartbeat. That's why I like old bikes over the new ones. All the new is computers and fuel injected, with ABS and ride modes. If something breaks on them, you pretty much have to buy their parts and have the dealership work on them. My 03 Bonneville is twin carbs, air cooled, disc brake, chain drive and a pleasure to ride. My 2016 Indian Scout is all electronic and a pain. You have to remove the gas tank to get to the air filter and spark plugs, but she is a speed demon lol, so I put up with her design flaws. I applaud you on this, do it yourself money saver, but I'm sure HD isn't to thrilled lol! Keep it up!! I love it!! I know ya can't ride in the snow, so take care of yourself and stay nice and warm! Stay safe Red Rider!

haha yeah, winter is here in Minnesota also; no snow to speak of yet, but its very cold and the MC season is done for the year. I rode my bikes out to the barn yesterday. My local HD dealership has a warehouse where we bikers store our H.O.G.S. for the winter. While they're in storage they also get oil change(s) , my Sportster S is getting a new front tire , and they both get fuel stabilizer to help keep the injectors clear and clean.
Well, I can't believe the season is over for 2022. Alas. Angel, have a great winter. I'm so happy to hear that you're recovering from the 'crud' you've been suffering with; good news. Keep the faith, and we'll both be on our bikes in no time!

I am having the same problem with my 93, can you tell me does your bikes VIN start with 1HD or 5HD? If yours is an international model your turn signals are different then mine.

Only thing with hooking up the old school blinker is then you don’t have the self canceling feature for the lights anymore. I think I mention that in the vid somewhere.

Looking under the seat of your motorcycle, I felt ashamed of myself, because the devil himself would break his leg in the wiring of my motorcycle. (To be clear, my bike was originally 6 volts, I converted everything to 12 volts and now I have a fiesta in my wiring). Get well soon! :)

Are you required by law to have turn signals? Where I'm currently at they are not required by law. We use our arms.
Stay safe out there Red 🙏
