Holy shit that's amazing playing! I was lucky enough to have a masterclass with Allen Vizzutti at the RNCM about 10 years ago - he was really positive about my playing and gave some cool tips. For example - if you have a really tricky /fast bit of fingering, learn it with the LEFT hand on the valves (slowly), then it becomes easier when you play it normally. Trust me it works, I still do it to this day!
Allen has always been an incredible player! Those of us who play the trumpet don't know how he does it; we just accept the fact he does! A word of caution, never listen to Allen playing Zig-Zag while driving or you will see blue lights in your mirror! Bravo Allen, and thank you for your many years of contributions to the trumpet world!
I used to visit Donte's and the Baked Potato in Los Angeles back in the late '70's and watch him play with his band. All fusion. He was and is a very talented musician.
His dad started him, but who TAUGHT this? Who could have? All I know is I sat next to him at a combined high school band festival in Missoula, MT in 1971 when I was as sophomore and it took only three or four minutes of playing to understand this was no ordinary trumpet player. Whereas, I was exactly ordinary.
It's called 6 hours a day of practice for decades on end. A friend of mine studied with Alan in LA and he was divorced three times because he spent more time with his trumpet than his wives. Talent with insane dedication is difficult to compete against.
Rumor has it, Vizzutti is finally releasing a new jazz album! According to his Facebook fan page, it will come out May 1st. Thought everyone might like to know
Phil Lawrence did a brass band arrangement that Richard Marshall played the solo for, and he was good...but Vizzutti is just in a different league...this is immense
I remember the first time I heard Allen Vizzutti...This recording, in fact...It must have been almost 30 years ago! I thought to myself....WOW...Who is this cat? He's amazing! Well, he's every bit as amazing today as he was way back then!
I wish someone would post a performance of him playing "SkyRocket" because thats my all time favorite song from him. Blew me away in highschool. I tried my best to immulate him all through school...
that is for beginner trumpet students who have trouble with pressure and not keeping there fingers on the valves. Not for players like Allen Vizzutti, grandmasters of the trumpet. especially Vizzutti who is know for some of the best technique in the world.
Wow, I didn't know he plays in a jazz/fusion context as well! I wouldn't be surprised if he was a great influence to Tiger Okoshi, they sound very similar.
ahh man, this is too sweet. sloppy looking dude on bass, mullet guitarist--they even have an Asian dude playing keyboard busting out delicious square waves. And then Allen Vizzutti, CHRIST!!!
To be honest, there's no set opinion about it in the trumpet community. Like most of the issues regarding trumpet, you can put up a fence ANYWHERE, and there's gonna be some people on one side, others on the other side, and STILL others on the fence, unsure of whether or not it helps or hurts.
I heard this at age 14 and it blew my young mind. It took over 20 years to find out who it was. I am truly grateful to you for uploading this.
You get the feeling he made it mission to be able to play whatever a sax could play but faster and with more crisp articulation.
No. He made it his mission to play anything faster and with more articulation. Saxes can't triple tongue 3 octaves.
@@jimmartin839 They can
ive seen ALOT of Vizzuttis videos and not once have i heard him make a mistake. this guys the best it gets when it comes to trumpet

Two dislikes? From who? Doc Severinsen and Mike Vax?

i been watching this video nonstop for the past three days
I used to visit Donte's and the Baked Potato in Los Angeles back in the late '70's and watch him play with his band. All fusion. He was and is a very talented musician.
i love how the whole time he plays he just has that "im not even trying yet" look on his face
that's what 5-8 hours per day of practice will do for you. the guy had to make up his own etudes because he could play everything written.
His dad started him, but who TAUGHT this? Who could have? Vizzutti is Vizzutti. Like Maynard, in his way, he is the one and only...and also like Maynard, one hell of a nice cat, too.
i think we should give more credit to his band. the keyboardist, bassist, and drummer dont have it easy either :)
underrated .This vid should have way more views. cuz this is amazing, pure, REAL music.
Rumor has it, Vizzutti is finally releasing a new jazz album! According to his Facebook fan page, it will come out May 1st. Thought everyone might like to know
Mr. Vizzutti speaks for himself. But that bassist really stands out!!
Practice, practice, practice. I have several of his technical books. Amazing!
Allen "Alien" Vizutti :)

I'm addicted to this song!
What a band!

@boricuatrumpet69 Not this, my friend. This right here is trumpet super-natural. Can't get better. Impossible.
his embouchure isnt even changing!
I'd look tired at the end, too! Can you imagine having to perform at this level day after day on a tour?
I wish someone would post a performance of him playing "SkyRocket" because thats my all time favorite song from him. Blew me away in highschool. I tried my best to immulate him all through school...
BLOODY BRILLIANT
Holy fucking 1980's mini-tie mullet EXPLOSION!!!!
I saw this video in back in high school.
well, he's freakin amazing, so i guess he gets to do whatever he wants...
I'm a guitarist, but that guy just exploded my head.
Quien aquí por las novelas de tvn de los 90? Genial.

ahh man, this is too sweet. sloppy looking dude on bass, mullet guitarist--they even have an Asian dude playing keyboard busting out delicious square waves. And then Allen Vizzutti, CHRIST!!!
He's just like "Eh, this is a nice improv..."
Is Allen Vizzutti the trumpet player on the soundtrack to SimCity 4?
INSANE!!
Woah! amazing, how could you put this on paper, that'd be so hard to read, he is the most tecnical player ive ever had the pleasure of listening to.
ron jeremy on bass

Am i the only one who thinks he looks like Bob Saget when he was on full house?
@Aragonsynth2294 that bassist is such a baller.

I would like to know why in the LA circuit only few trumpet players work regoularly.
MULLETS.
When asked, ZigZag is the only piece vizzuti can't play
and... I quit! Vizzutti PWNS!!!

@direct4know1 same
There are still people who listen to Vlado Kumpan. Poor guys :D
Didn't... even... break...a... sweat....
Where can I get the Notes for Trumpet?
@TheVladotron hehe i don't think the majority of the people who watched this video can play this either...
who could possibly have taught Allen Vizzutti???!!!
@fuzzyjon79 any chance of sending us a copy? :)

@br549sample Cheers. LEON
ok i don't mean to be a troll but he doesn't hit the 2nd to last staccato high C
@fuzzyjon79 he gave me an autographed photo :/
w allen vezzutti
As good as Allen is I wonder if the the guys kicked that off just a few clicks too fast. Wonder if he thought so too.
Alllen can't swing to save his ass...
This is not a swing piece.
daaaamn...he manages to both rape his trumpet (in a good way) and look suuuper chilled.....
wow im jealous of u then
Allen VizWHOti? What a bum. (Sarcasm ray on +1,000,000)
@NavesRegg Why 100 million solid gold bricks? Useless. I'd rather have 100 million solid bricks of diamond.
Two people can't play this...
Fire Dance is better in my opinion :/
what the fuck??? this is impossible!
that song sucked, what the hell
too much tongue!
that's what she said.
you press too hard against the mouthpiece, make it hard for yourself like that.
Peeter Pakiraam did you just tell alan vizzuti what he's doing wrong? Lol he designed the Yamaha Xeno trumpet. Think about what you did.
