    Some impressive technique but not as musical or technically proficient Ole Edvard Antonsen doing Napoli. Antonsen is spectacular.

    I love Allan and he will always be known as a true virtuoso of the trumpet. However this is not his best performance of this piece. I'm afraid Father Time has caught up with him a bit. I think how well Doc Severinsen played into his later years goes to show how his ability into his 70's is hard to match even by a master such as Allen Vizzutti.

    • @WhalerGA
      @WhalerGA 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I think you're right. Doc has amazing genetics. But in his prime, Allen was absolutely mind-blowing. Having seen both of them play live (in their primes), I describe it this way: Doc took my breath away; Allen made my jaw drop. He is still amazing. We just remember when he could do it a little better.

      @@WhalerGA I hear things here that I think are signs of experience that might not have showed in earlier performances - there is a richness to his sound and many sublte rubatos in his phrasing that turn a flurry of notes into something with more warmth and expression. Trying to find the words without being pedantic.

      Didn't help that the orchestra played the piece WAY TOO SLOW, which likely screwed up his timing.

  • @franciscaviani786

    It is a little slow.

  • @georgerose8727

    Allen played beautifully as usual, but the band was too heavy and felt like it was plodding at times. Needs to feel light and nimble, but powerful when needed.

      Are you telling an Italian band that they can't play an Italian song well?

    • @georgerose8727
      @georgerose8727 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Kronenberg89 The tune is Italian, but the arrangement as a cornet solo is not, and it must be light, and support the soloist, not compete with him.

    • @Kronenberg89
      @Kronenberg89 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@georgerose8727 What you say only happens in the last note of the song. And it happens because the soloist decides to play a pedal note

    • @georgerose8727
      @georgerose8727 10 месяцев назад +4

      @@Kronenberg89 I could go from beginning to end and state my likes and dislikes, but our tastes obviously are different. That is what music is about. I have played the solo many times, and from my standpoint, it is much easier for the soloist to be more expressive when the band is lighter. Also there is a point that the band became sluggish and was dragging the tempo, which again makes it more difficult for the soloist. Allen is an extremely fine artist, (and a very nice guy)and will make it all work, whether it is a school band or a professional orchestra. I respect your opinion, and perhaps we hear things differently. Have a good day.

  • @user-ry8vp1ht5h
    @user-ry8vp1ht5h 10 месяцев назад +1

    Hes old, hes probably having an off day, and he probably didnt practice that piece much beforehand because it was low stakes and he knows the song off by heart.
    Yet he played it like it was nothing (with only a few extremely minor blips)

    • @Kronenberg89
      @Kronenberg89 10 месяцев назад +3

      you're probably old, you've probably had an off day and you've probably never trained on this piece or on any other, and you're very far from knowing the piece by heart.
      Yet you allow yourself to criticize one of the greatest trumpet players in the history of music (and who knows how many more).
