I prefer the suburbs, not a city person. I live in a San Antonio suburb. And I love San Marcos. I actually live 25 minutes away from San Marcos which is an Austin suburb.
Neat video. Thanks for doing it. Have not considered Texas in the past for moving to. Hummmm. Just curious, I know you spoke about nature. Does that include bike gravel and mtb'ing. How about which one has better access to different parks outside of the area for biking such as state parks etc.. Thanks!
Austin hangs its hat on being active, adventurous, and fit! Cycling is a major scene here. As for gravel trails and mountain biking, that’s not my specific area of expertise. Though I’m fairly certain Austin is the better choice. A few of my close friends used to hit the trails here all the time so I know it’s common!
@@LivingInAustinTeam Thank you for the response... I am sure Austin is a nice city. I live in the Bay area of CA and am ready to leave. When I hear keep a city weird slogan like Portland or Austin.. (I grew up in Portland when it was really nice) At almost 60 I guess I am getting up there and looking more for keep my city normal slogan lol. Considering NWA but hummm.... not sure. Same with Greenville SC and NC. Hard to find the right spot. My wife's family lives in Katy but I dislike Houston. New Braunfels looks nice but they are all out of houses lol
Wow, many choices! Such a big decision can never be thought about too much, so I’m glad you’re keeping your options open. Do what you feel is right for you! If it’s Austin, I’d recommend northern Austin for sure. Very cyclist-friendly too. Or possibly Cedar Park or Round Rock. Reach out if you need us! We’ll be happy to help figure it out.
New Braunfels is blowing up right now too, along with the rest of Texas. I don’t even recognize that town anymore. But the same can be said for Gruene, San Marcos, and everything else between San Antonio and Austin. So many out-of-staters moving here it’s nuts.
Lived in SA all my life. Nothing changes here. Spurs are barely hanging on, WNBA left, SA Rampage left, Symphony just filed for bankruptcy, downtown is a mix of a tacky tourist trap and abandoned, old buildings, nothing is walkable, every new business to the city is built on or moved to the far corners of the city, we don’t have a light rail (it was lobbied against), public transit is a joke, express ways are a joke and filthy. Everything new faces a massive wall of opposition by city council and old school San Antonians. Cities smaller than SA actually have big city amenities. SA needs MAJOR CHANGE. Meanwhile, an hour away, Austin is eating San Antonio’s lunch.
I’m in Cali, and will be visiting both cities in the summer just to get an idea.a at is there a city in between both that way I can be 30 minutes away from both cities 🤣
me & my gf are from LA and we are planning on moving txs in a month. so far i did my research. dallas, austin, Houston, but SA is on top of our list. do you recommend?
If you want something that’s going to remind you of LA. Austin! It’s going to remind you a lot of being in California. Very big college city also. Houston is more of the turn up/party city. A lot going on all the time. Dallas is more of upscale white collar living, growing fast and soon going to past Houston metroplex. It’s getting pretty crowded there. San Antonio is more family friendly. If you looking for that “laid back” type lifestyle
Austin is the place if you want to see Morrissey and Slayer in a two mile radius. If you want to start a family and get plumpy off badass tacos SA is for you!
You need to clarify you facts a little better you said Austin population density is more than twice that of San Antonio..you should have said because Austin is tiny compared to San Antonio and the population in San Antonio is 700,000 people larger than Austin...that's what Austin is alot of overstated and blown out of proportion statistics and the area codes prove it Austin has 1 512 San Antonio has 3 210 830 726...more people more area codes. I'm done.
San Antonio is similar to Houston. SA is massively spread out with multiple highways and HOV lanes. San Antonio’s population is higher than Austin’s; however, population density in Austin could use HOV lanes on 35. I love to visit Austin but rather live in hill country Hollywood park, Texas north of SA. Austin only has one highway that everyone wants to be on at the same time. Locals in San Antonio don’t go downtown of the river walk too many tourists. you have the Pearl ( more locals), the Domain, stone oak and the heights. Austin and San Antonio have great hiking trails. For me the drive from Hollywood Park to Austin is 50 mins 71 miles.... I put more miles on my car driving around San Antonio than driving to Austin. I love cost living in SA much better than California! I have 500k home with acre of land and pool same house in CA is 1.2 million and Austin 700k.
No it's not, from an actual Austinite Austin is one of the safest big cities in the US and dominates Texas. Its suburbs are also high ranking in safety with Dallas Lake suburbs. SA is #8 for most crime in Texas 4 below Houston
Crime has risen 50% thanks to “defund the police” crowd. Every other night if not every night, there are always alerts on the Neighbor App for gunshots. You’re better off calling Pizza Hut. The homeless tent cities is an awful eye sore. They even camp out on the median on highways. San Antonio is better, I’m even thinking about moving there. Didn’t see any homeless tent cities plus it seems drivers are more friendly there.
@@azulaquaza4916 The crime rate in Austin is literally rising faster than the population growth right now. Murders are up 200% this year than they were in 2020 (!!). Aggravated Assault is up 36% from 2020, and car thefts are up dramatically at 77% more than last year. These statistics are as of July, so only 2 months ago. Extremely liberal Austin City Council defunding the police is what’s allowed this. Beyond stupid. It’s going the way of California. 👎🏼
We need those Cali liberals here. We already have the homeless in SA too, but this time needs to get hip and be more of a world class, diverse city. I might have to move to Austin if SA remains as boring as it is. I was in Austin this weekend, people were out everywhere enjoying nature, walking, cycling, looking good and very healthy, like the guy in this video. I don't think San Antonio is as youthful and vibrant as Austin.

Much appreciated Don!!
I live in San Antonio! All my life. Tourist definition for sure. Outskirts of big cities is where you want to be in Texas!
This was honestly so helpful! I'm in my mid 20s looking to move to one of these cities and you definitely helped answer a lot of questions I had!!
Thanks so much Hannah!
Dont move to Texas

Is it better to live in Nw Austin or Sw Austin?
Cost if living n housing cost is irrelevant if u don't include something about wages/income in the 2 cities. Just saying. Luv the content tho
San Antonio was once Mexico, home of the Tejano - the Texas Mexicans.
There's a higher rate of poverty in San Antonio and it's sadly a less educated city.

San Antonio Vs Houston
Austin has a pro team now, Austin FC, (MLS), if you like soccer...
