I’m loving it here ! Sold everything I owned back in Chicago. Packed my bags and went on a one way trip down here. Had an Airbnb for 2 weeks and just settled in at the Domain.
I’m leaving Chicago and moving to Austin in October. What’s the demo like in The Domain? I currently live in Lincoln park and love the vibe. Is domain like that? My office will be downtown on 6th street. Any and all feedback will help. Thanks!
I’m so damn excited to move have lived in this tiny town at the edge of the world my whole life. Going down there blind with 2k hopefully I can make it
@@frostyalaska6371 I'm considering the same. I'm a new web dev a little worried about landing a new job after moving. Mind if I ask what field you work in?
@@InterestingTed I just work in the service industry for now. Got a job as a bouncer at a bar. With the job you have I’m sure you could find a job before even moving down here
I plan to visit Austin , Texas during the month of April, 2023 ! I thank you for this video and you shared great information about Austin ! I was wondering, are scooters easy to rent in downtown Austin ?
Good list. I had lived in Austin for 22 years so I wanted to check what you had to say. One small annoyance that I would like to add is while I lived in Austin, I had to get my car inspected once a year. Just seemed like a waste of time. I moved to Flagstaff, AZ and now live in Juneau, AK and I don't have to get my car inspected. You are correct about taxes. If they don't get you with income taxes they will get you with property taxes. Alaska has no state income tax and no state sales tax but it is so expensive here that I doesn't help. And the state even gives money to its residents once a year. I basically left Austin in 2001 due to traffic and heat. Flagstaff had 'free air conditioning'. Alaska has no people. But Austin has a lot to like. It has lots of energy for young people to thrive in. Barton Springs, lakes, Hill Country. I grew up in La Grange and my parents still live there so I still visit Austin at least once a year. Interesting to see the changes each time.
Some headlines that may have got buried: Funny that Google gave me a two year anniversary today of a photo. It was the snow in my parking lot and South Congress. Not a great memory! The power was out for four days with my apt. down to 28 degrees. HEB had no water at first, I bought canned fruit to drink. The water was off for two weeks, we used pool water to flush toilets. The hot water was off for a month while waiting for plumbers. Issues persisted for months afterwards. Headline is, Texas is on its own electrical grid. I didn't even know that before. Another one is, hundreds of people died. Probably much more than the State's official count of 246 deaths. Even though prices are up, are gas prices are lower than most other places. Wine and beer until midnight. Not on Sunday. Liquor only until 9:00. Not on Sunday. CBD shops are everywhere. For me, it's better than Aleve was for my arthritis. I legally order it from Oregon. Beyond that, Austin is a weed town, let's be honest. I don't think cops really care. Decide for yourself eh. Traffic IS getting worse. I think of the traffic in two parts. There's the regular commute which is 5:30 AM to 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM to at least 7:00 PM. Then there's the night traffic. I know it well, I drive Uber. It can be pretty crazy, gets dangerously congested on west and east 6th Street. Rainey Street is getting worse with the upcoming biggest building in Texas. This makes me think about the upcoming music festivals. It's Austin but newcomers should be aware, the crowds may impact your lives in a a variety of ways. The more construction, the worse the roads get. Anyway, good video, fair.
It’s most certainly a southern thing! You’re not the first to wonder... in Texas it’s very common to have tiny attics instead. Makes no sense if you ask me!
Good info, can you take out the music? That’s distracting me. Yes, I live in East Texas and I want to move West. But you definitely want to say “please” and “thank you” here.
Hi, how are the rules about masks and vaccines are strict or quiet In schools and public?? Crime and violence?? 🌪 Tornadoes and hurricane?? Best Safe Cities or County to Live in??
Hi Emilia! Masks & vaccines are currently optional here. Crime & violence are on the rise though, more specifically in the urban areas. Lastly very safe from hurricanes and tornadoes since, Austin is very central in TX. 👍🏼
One thing is not mention,,,car theft is on the rise, home break ends,,Why??? Here in Austin, under 1,000,it's not a felony, unless threatened with a weapon,,criminal knows it ,.I own a business,,I have lived here over 30yrs,,recently sold my home I loved.moved to the hills. The problem????The Mayor ,AS long as Alder,is mayor, nothing will change..You will get tired of Austin real quick,,it takes money to have a good time, unless your parents are paying your way,,or inherited money.
Hi! Can you please do an apartment/condo tour video in Round Rock or Austin? I would like to see what 1100-1500 a month gets you there. Considering a move soon and would like to rent until I’m definitely settled. I’m sure that would help a lot of people. It’s rare to find a video like that. Thanks! Great info here, BTW.
I´m moving to Austin in two months, in my 30s., with my girlfriend. Which neighborhoods would you recommend?? walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc is a priority, needs to have a vibe! any thoughts???? appreciate the help! I know downtown is suggested but might be really expensive. Working remotely.
You may really like the Domain, which is basically a big outdoor mall with stores, resteraunts and bars. Lots of apartments for rent and grocery store nearby. Soccor stadium near. I love south Lamar, south Congress and downtown but they’re pricer
I definitely wouldn't say people "drive" friendly I'm from SF and thus is by far the scariest place to drive! Everyone drives super fast, tailgates and are very rude dangerous drivers. Friendly outside of driving for sure!
Thanks! In a nutshell, public transportation will be underwhelming when compared to other big popular cities. It’s rather limited and lackluster, but at least it’s existent. However, the biking will be lovely! Huge scene here. Full of lanes for it as well, naturally.
3rd generation Austinite. I avoid downtown as much as possible, if you can't park outside for free then I'm not interested. The Domain feels like Plano is invading. In reality, it is mostly Californians invading. Homeless encampments pop up and disappear all over town. I enjoy the parks, water, greenbelts and food. When I run into another native Austinite, which only happens once or twice a year, we are usually so elated we celebrate over a drink or a meal.

Unfortunately, easy. They litter downtown and surrounding areas of the city.

unless you work in hi tech, retail, tradesman, medical, you might have a tough time making enough to survive

I’m from Houston TX and honestly during summer time you can’t do anything I would go for a run at 5am or 9pm 😬😬
Very useful videos - thanks!
1 piece of feedback - the beeping in the background is super annoying and probably driving a lot of viewers insane!
I made a mistake sharing my intention of fleeing Califorina and moving closer to my daughter in Austin lots of hate
The fewest are often the loudest! I’m sure you’ll feel more than welcome when you make the move!
That is great that there is plenty of parking. I hate door dings and finding a parking spot. I hope apartments have plenty of spaces.
This is a great video. Thank you.
We are thinking of moving there... and looking at rental houses, NONE of them have basements... why ?

I don't understand why cannabis is illegal. In Canada we got like half dozen dispensaries within 15 min. I think florida might be the better option.
