Competing against its own kin like the Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Swift, Alto and the WagonR. I have 2012 diesel engine Zdi and you cant even compare today generations Swift is tin and paper and runs like a cycle and 2012 model can gap the cars even upto 20 lakhs

The 3 cylinder engine is so smooth which i realised after 10 years of usage where some well known car companies till now struggling with their 3 cylinder engines majorly in terms of smoothness and vibration

My dad had one of them. It was the best car for city and was stable at the speed of 140 kmph. I remember my dad covered 300km in just 2.5 hrs in that car . It was a wonderful experience for him😂

I used to own a black colour A-Star. I did my first long road trip in that car. And it was a real gem. In the city and on the highway...it was a lovely performer.

I have had this car for the last 15 years now. We got the VXI trim which had most of the top level features and the safety of this car has been excellent. Even after 15 years, this car is running perfectly and we have never had engine issues with this car. It was a big blunder that Maruti failed to market this car properly in India and devoid Indians of the top quality Maruti once used to make. And I still can't believe that this got replaced by a Celerio!!
Back in 2013, I was considering buying A star because it was the cheapest with 2 airbags, ABS and EBD. I think Wagon R did not have any 2 airbags options back then. But when I went to take a test-drive, the car had such short height that I head would touch the roof. So my next cheapest option was Nissan Micra. But fortunately Micra delivery was delayed and so I cancelled Micra. Then I spent some more and bought Ritz ZXI. So you were correct when you said that A star customers were buying Ritz. Somehow my luck was very good that Micra got delayed amd cancelled. I absolute love my Ritz which I am having for the last 10 years.

Fun Fact: Nissan just changed the front panel of the A-star and sold it as Nissan Pixo. Also, In the European markets, A-star was sold as Alto. I know its confusing but it's the A-star which was sold as Suzuki Alto and Nissan Pixo. I have a Nissan Pixo in the UK and I but all my spares from India as its way cheaper here lol!
