  • The most common problem with surging or hard starting is that the main jet gets gunked up by old gas that has varnished. In this video, I have already cleaned the main jet, and the problem persists. This is how I solved the problem. Big props to Miniracing dot Com on youtube that actually solved this issue for me. Here is a link his video.

      @@johncramer99 Ebay can be your friend. I bought a couple from there for around $10. I will say, not really needed. I prefer to use non-ethanol for storage, or just start the thing once a week to keep the bowl full of gas, and the gas flowing before it turns to varnish. Don't forget the Seafoam or Sta-bil. These products extend the life of the gas, and reduce/eliminate the tear-downs.

    This worked by the way. Mine would hunt with no load and Eco Throttle off. I didn't have to take the Eco motor off though Just took the horizontal idle screw out and then pried the jet out. mine was plugged like his and it took an 0.080 drill bit to open it up. Thanks man really appreciate the upload.

    I found a bread tie works great for this. I do a lot of camping in the middle of nowhere. So, I tied a bread tie to one of the fuel lines on each generator (I need two EU2000s in parallel for the air conditioning). Since in the middle of nowhere finding something so small to do this procedure is difficult. Now I have a suitable wire on the generator at all times. This has saved me more than once. Great video that works for the surge and sudden stopping for no other apparent problem. This is now part of my annual maintenance for my generator.

    All I can say is Thank You Thank You Thank You! It solved my problem. The wire needed to poke through is really small. I first tried to use a resistor lead, 0.020" in diameter, no-go. The only thing I had that was smaller was one single strand of a steel cable, 0.012", and it went through no problem. I can't imagine a drill bit that small. I was having doubts that anything that small would do the trick, but it did! I really appreciate people like you that take the time to share their efforts with others! Thank you again!

      Can't imagine such a small drill? Here is a very old joke from the German Democratic Republic (GDR):
      Research success in the GDR. A metal company had developed a wire that was so thin that none of the measuring devices known in the GDR could determine the thickness. A sample was bagged and sent to Japan for thickness testing. Unfortunately, someone forgot to enclose the letter describing what the Japanese should do with the wire. After three months the package comes back. The entire leadership team of the SED appeared and the head of the combine opened the package:
      "Unfortunately we didn't know what to do with the sample. So we cut in an external and internal thread..."

    15yo eu2000. Never serviced (did use Mobile1 full synthetic when unboxed). Just gas run once a year. Try to store dry/no gas. Thanks for this tip but it’s still surging rough. It’s time to get the whole thing serviced. Honda dealer next door. I would myself but my luck a gasket will tear or a screw will strip.

    Great video, short, clear and to the point. I just wanted to add that I had a really hard time getting the jet seated back in the hole enough so I could get the idle screw back in. No matter how hard I squeezed it would only go in 95% of the way. Finally I squeezed on it for about 2 minutes & as my hand started to cramp, it slowly seated itself to where I could get the idle adjustment screw back in. Maybe it was just on my unit, but it was a bear to get it back in unlike the video showed.

      It's possible I did not notice it, but my recollection was that it was perfectly round with a small O ring at the bottom. So there was nothing I could tell that looked like it went in any particular way. In fact now that I recall, there was a molding mark on the jet part, and I used this as a guide to stick it back in the exact same way it was originally. But anyway, ultimately the repair worked & hopefully I won't have to do that again.

    I just had the same problem, and had a very difficult time opening up the idle jet. I used a progression of sizes of thin copper wire strands. Then I found a hypodermic needle and it it worked. I also did a complete service including adjusting the valves. When I was in there, I noticed the plastic cam was worn. This is why the generator is down in capacity. I have two, and run them in parallel to power our trailers AC. I noticed the newer one is able to run a 1.5 KW microwave easily, and the other has trouble. When I adjusted the valves, they were both loose. Can’t believe the cam and timing gear on these EU2000’s are made of plastic.

    On dirt bikes and outboards we used to adjust know speed mix screws. Some leaned out when turned out and were air screws. Most got rich turning out half a turn in cold weather. Today they make motors very very lean. Any dirt or gum will cause bad idle.
    I take a crock pot and fill it with sea foam and techtron. I out carb s in it on low with ultra sonic vibrator in liquid. This often cleans out the worst from internal passages.
    Drilling kit pilot low speed is a good solution if it still is to.lean.
    If you go to big solder hole and re drill smaller if you don't have a new jet.
    Old biker trick.

I touched nothing else besides removing the cover, draining and refilling the oil. Now the genny has been running off and on for months with no surging issues. Very well could have been the cover not seated perfectly
    Also, the Jet Fuel thing is probably a good idea. I've used Sta-Bil in the past with regular gas with a lot of success if the genny is sitting for up to a year.

      @@sheeshalready Thank you. I tried and tried with a very stiff yet thin guitar string and was not successful. in the end, I am ordering a new part for 13 or so off ebay.

      I can confirm the new jet off of ebay solved the problem (try as I might I could not unclog the old one). The new one had a brass insert where the hole is, so maybe it is an improved part? Thank you to the poster and everyone else for the help.

      Smallest string from a guitar should work. Possibly a wire from a fine wire brush or a piece of wire from a piece of network cable (with insulation stripped?) Second two are guesses. First (guitar string) definitely worked for me.

      @@richardholloway3920 Ya, I could not get a guitar string to work -- it was clogged very solidly. I bought a new jet off ebay that solved the issue.

    What is that switch looks like in top of the generator. By the way great video wish you can do this again with more lighting.

      I was experimenting with adding a gas shut off. Old gas is a killer, cut the gas, run the float dry, no issues, theoretically anyway.

    This is not directly related, but since there are so many responses here I thought I'd ask my question. When the unit sits for an expended period of time it's a bear to start. I have to pull the starter cord like 30 times. Once I have gas in the carb it runs fine. It's like the unit needs a bulb like they put on boats, or on lawn mowers. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Having the same issue?

    • @sheeshalready
      @sheeshalready  3 года назад

      Gas evaporates and turns into a sticky varnish. That is what plugs the main and pilot jets. Use gas additives, seafoam, fake gas, or empty the tank, run the engine until it runs out of gas. Just do not leave regular untreated gas in the carb or you will suffer this every time you actually need to use the generator.

    Does a #80 drill bit actually go thru the jet? If so I’ll pull it apart again as I had to find the smallest twist tie wire out there & ream it through. The previous owner went wild with the fuel stabilizer & it was totally plugged up. With the stripped twist tie repair it does run better on eco now, however I don’t think I made the jet opening to #80 so I’ll open it up again to make it #80 if that’s what it was

    • @sheeshalready
      @sheeshalready  5 лет назад +1

      It will go through the bottom of the jet into the middle space that has the two side holes that you can look through. Like I said in the video, it is a super small hole. The first time I tried to clean it, the wire I was using was too large to go through and I figured that there must not be a hole there.

    • @LoneScout1

      Travis S fix it too strong & it will. Take a bit and dribble it on a surface, eventually it will harden like syrup.

      @@LoneScout1 Sure if you put it straight, antifreeze will FREEZE if it's not mixed with water so.... I usually use double strength and that's something like 3 oz for 2.5 gallons so it's not going to gum stuff up unless you're evaporating a gallon, if it doesn't just evaporate with the gas it's mixed in with.

    • @LoneScout1
      @LoneScout1 5 лет назад

      Travis S like I said, dribble a bit of fuel stabilizer on a surface, wait a while, and see what happens. While your at it, dribble a bit of antifreeze on a surface, wait a while, & see what happens...

      The trick is knowing that there is a through hole, and it is very small. It is the "knowing" that makes all the difference. Then, it is just a matter of finding anything small enough to go through. A wire wheel wire, sewing needle, bristle from a broom, etc. Glad to help!

The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    Trufuel is just non-oxygenated fuel which costs about $8 for a quart you can go to like a fuel farm and get non-oxygenated gasoline for about $0.30 more a gallon then regular gasoline when I put my Honda's which I have eight of them en long-term storage. I use non-oxygenated fuel I do that to my lawn mowers which I have two Honda commercials and my John Deere d130 lawn tractor I have never had an issue with spring start up just keep that in mind before you spend $8 on the court go down to the fuel farm and for $8 you can buy enough fuel for all your equipment other than that great video

    Don’t use shop cleaners on the jet. You’ll prematurely destroy the oring on it or cause it to swell and not seat properly. WD40 is a better bet.
