Hello my brotha. I like what you did here in this video. I am a Honda man all the way but I have been looking into the ryobi because of the great deal for two of them. I think your video has just helped me make my decision. thank you. i just subscribed from both of my channels. Guava my friend!!
Hi Tactical! My newer Ryobi was running rough, Very hard to start and would surge up and down. Followed your direction and it worked! Thank you! This was perfect. I picked up Carb Cleaner, took apart the Carburetor following your steps. Injector on mine was brass. Reassembled it, and it started with the 1st pull and ran MUCH smoother with no surging.
That’s awesome! Your comment brightened my day man, stuff like this is why I make my videos. Thank you for your support 🙏🏾 and great job on fixing your Ryobi.
First of all, this is my first time onto your channel and thank you for your service! As far as the generator, I have one of these and these are very cool generators. They are by no means perfect but they are one of the best feature rich generators that you can find. I am a small engine mechanic and have worked on quite a few of these.
Awesome! A fellow small engine mechanic, welcome to my channel and thank you for your support! I agree, these Ryobi inverters are shoulders above most inverters when it comes to the features, thanks to the Bluetooth + App connectivity. I also own one, it ran like a champ through 2 hurricanes. Last hurricane I had around 12 of these sitting at my shop the same week, most of the issues were owners’ lack of maintenance with the inverter. Overall they are pretty cool generators.
Thank you so much! Should have done it before the hurricane just hit! I assumed everything was good since I'd only used it a handful of times over the years...but low and behold I was sitting there pulling and pulling away.... finally got reving up and down on choke...dead when moving to Run. Cleaning the carb did the trick!
Glad my video was helpful. Hope you and your love ones are ok during and after the hurricane. I always recommend using fuel treatment and starting your generator at least once a month, that way you avoid surprises like that one.
I just picked one of these up from someones garbage. All that I had to do was preset the reset button on the inverter because it displayed overload. Plugged in a little toaster, works great.
Thanks for the video on the surging issue. I have a 1yr old RYOBI EasyStart 6500 and although I used your video to check and clean the carburetor, along with a few other areas, it turned out to actually need a brand new carb. Fortuanately it was a warranty repair. Love the detail and explanation. The experience will definitely help me in the future to maintain this item!!
Thanks for watching my video. Good to hear you were able to figure out the problem with your generator. Once you get it back from the warranty repair make sure to use fuel treatment/additive and keep up with the maintenance.
Thanks man, I've been having g a hard time trying to locate this pilot jet screw doing anything . Now I know exactly where to work on and what to do 👍👍🤝

Thank you for making such a good and useful video! Did exactly, with the jet and a wire brush wire, surging no longer. Also, 14kt gold cleaner is said to work quite well, next maintenance in going to try it. 🙏

Great video right here, Subbed! I see a lot of pilot jet issues, my Golf Cart needs it cleaned at least every 6 months, and Ive got three Ryobi 2300s that start the surging if I dont use them for a couple weeks. I did bypass the fuel control on them, the valve and knob is never able to get adjusted, and the fuel line they use is crap that collapses inside causing a lean condition. I took new quality fuel line and just went from the tank, through a filter, and to the carb, all the easy start does now is choke it, and I shut it off with the bluetooth on my phone. Peace man!
Thanks for the sub and support man I really appreciate it. One thing I use to keep the jets clean is the fuel additive called Sea Foam. It “extends” the life of the fuel and cleans the carburetor jets when fuel passes through. The valve/knob issues with these Ryobi sucks.
I do not currently, I might upload a short on how to remove and install the spark plug on the Ryobi 2300. You are going to need a special spark plug wrench to fit the tight space. A regular spark plug socket is to thick to fit, the Ryobi spark plug wrench is thinner.
have u heard abt the cleaning jets with 14kt gold acid testing solution? Tried it yesterday and it works great.. one drop in each hole, then flush with carb cleaner.
Thanks for this video! I hope it’s the issue with mine also. I have a question for you since you see a lot of these. Do they all smoke on startup? Mine has done it since I bought it a few years ago. Hasn’t gotten worse, so I’m assuming not a big deal. Just curious.
Thank you for watching my video. Smoke on startup is actually pretty common and usually not a cause for concern. The slight smoke can happen for a few reasons like: - If it’s cold outside or the engine hasn’t been run in a while, it may take a few extra cranks to get fuel burning efficiently, causing a little smoke at the beginning. - Sometimes, a bit of oil might seep into the combustion chamber when the generator is off. This oil burns off quickly, causing smoke for the first few seconds. - When starting, the generator might run with a richer fuel mixture until it warms up. This can result in a little smoke due to unburned fuel in the exhaust. - If the choke is engaged (especially if it’s on too long), it can make the engine run rich and produce smoke until it’s fully open.

I think its running too rich at idle.. amazon doesnt have any carbs in stock to fit my generator so that tells me ALOT of folks are having carb problems, and are weary of working on the factory GARBAGERATOR...
How much load you have on the generator? Running the generator at low speeds (idle mode) for too long can cause a fuel/air mixture that's too rich, which can foul the spark plug. But most likely you are right, you might have a faulty carb.
Thanks my ryobi is surging I knew it was something like that but not sure what, you will have me a lot time tomorrow since won't have clean whole carb. I know just where to go to fix it. Is this common on one's get used and then sit a lot
You’re welcome! Yes, it is a common issue. The pilot jet on a carburetor can get dirty due to several reasons. Fuel Quality: Impurities or contaminants in the fuel can clog the pilot jet over time. It’s essential to use clean and properly filtered fuel to prevent this. Stale Fuel: If fuel is left in the carburetor for an extended period, it can evaporate, leaving behind deposits that can clog the pilot jet. Regularly run and maintain your generator to avoid this. Hi Ryobi runs and it’ll stop within 10 minutes the carburetors clean new spark plug and fuel filter. Any suggestions Ron for 5 to 10 minutes and shut down
You said not to lose the throttle spring when taking apart. I lost it. It’s little with like an arm. What’s the part number? I can’t find one anywhere. 😮😮😮
My generator running fine before, but I cleaned the carburetor anyway. Then I think I messed something up, I tore the bottom pilot jet rubber o ring and removed it anyway. it's surging when I put the air filter on and less surging when the choke open all the way. Is it possible that little rubber o ring causing too much fuel to this problem?
The lack if bottom o-ring is definitely your issue. That o-ring isolates the bottom part of the pilot jet from the middle side holes of the jet. So without the o-ring, fuel passes through spots it ain’t supposed to. I recommend adding a new o-ring or replacing the entire jet. That specific o-ring size can be hard to find.
@@tacticalpowerpro It's pretty difficult to find the replacement part, so I just replaced the o ring but it's not the right size. It's no longer surging but it's very easy to start, just light pull and it's running. Maybe not sealing perfectly and the engine running rich.
great video I have a 2300 i have had for about 3 years and last year it started surging and have not done anything to it till now. I took the carb off and cleaned with carb cleaner and also the pilot jet which is brass. I did not see any Orings on this type. I have changed filter, fresh gas new plug and is still surging. what have i missed. I usually do pretty good on repairs but this one has me stumped. is it time for a new carb. tk you Randy
Hi Randy, did you clear the small hole at the bottom of the brass pilot jet? It has three hole in the body and one in the bottom. You’ll need a really thin wire to clear it of any varnish, rust, etc.
@@tacticalpowerpro Bingo that did it!!!! Did not see that AT ALL. It still surges a little bit with no load but when I added load it smoothed out . I put a full load on it for one hr and it ran fine. I have never put additive in my fuel but you said sea foam is a good product?? I also installed a gas cutoff valve on it to run it dry. I have put one of them on my riding mower and at season end I run it dry and never have had a issue, tk you soooo much Randy
@@RandyPazera yes! Glad the video was helpful. I do like using Seafoam motor treatment in the fuel after performing maintenance. It helps keeping the carburetor clean, specially the jets.
Is your Ryobi the “newer” version? I have found that the newer Ryobi don’t react well if you suddenly demand more than 1000 watts. But clean the carburetor, check spark plug gap and clean the spark arrester. really good you might just have a dirty carb.
Sounds like the pilot jet is still clogged or one of it’s small o-rings was damaged. It has two small o-rings and if they break or stretched they will not seal properly and the generator will surge at idle.
The fuel tank does not need to be empty to clean the carburetor. You need to put the switch on OFF to stop the fuel from filling the carburetor and then you just drain the remaining fuel out of the carburetor bowl. If fuel is still reaching the bowl with the switch on off then you have a bad fuel valve.
Great video, thanks man! I don't have a lot of hours on this genny but it still got clogged jets, and i have only used supposedly top-quality gas and run it regularly. I run into a lot more issues with small engines like this than I used to - seems like gas ain't as clean as it used to be. Do you have any additives or fuel cleaners you recommend adding to a generator like this to help reduce issues?
Thanks to you for watching my video. I do use fuel additive, I always recommend the Sea Foam Motor Treatment additive. That’s the one I use on all my generators and it work great, it extends the fuel’s life and cleans the carburetor and its jets while the engine is running.
Thanks a lot for the video. Great job. But question. Why is the selector switch so sensitive. I have 4 of those Ryobi generator. But I need to put the switch right at the middle between cold start & run. If I put it in run with a load. The generators run like it can’t keep up or it’s not getting enough gas. But if I put it in between it runs fine. And another question with these new Ryobi 1800watt generators. How do you remove the CO2 detector? I have my units in a enclosure with exhaust holes all around and an attic fan on top. When ever I run those new generators in the enclosure. I need to wait a few minutes after I start the attic exhaust to start pulling the air before running the generators. Would you know how to disconnect that?
Thank you for watching my video. There were a bunch of Ryobi 2300/1800 inverters that came with selector switch issues. The problem is that the selector switch controls three things: the ignition switch, the fuel valve and the choke. So when you move the selector switch to the run position the selector switch partially closes the fuel valve when it should keep it wide open. The easy solution is like you mention, move the selector switch closer to the C of choke to completely open the valve. It's a pretty common issue with the Ryobi 2300/1800 inverters, I have replace a few of them switches at the shop. In regards to the CO2 sensor, I have not disable one on these Ryobi yet but if its wired like other generators you should be able to just unplug it. I've seen some CO2 sensor that requires some re-wiring to disable them though.
Most 2000w - 2300w range inverter generators have almost identical air box and carburetor setup. So in reality if you know how to fix one, you can fix them all. Thanks for your comment.
I turn on the generator and it appears over load and there is no power generation in the contacts. I then pressed the reset button and restarted the generator from the app, but the loader still appears.
Make sure the carburetor is not loose, I’ve seen that issue a few times and the problem was cause due to the lugs holding the carburetor were not tight. In another occasion the throttle stepper motor was installed incorrectly. If everything is fine engine wise then you most likely have a bad inverter module.
@@tacticalpowerpro The equipment was only used once on the beach and worked properly, it was stopped and stored for 3 months. We tried to use it, it turns on fine but the screen shows overloaded.
@@GermanSalvadorCortezZamorano looks like you have a bad inverter module. Where was the inverter generator stored? the inverter module might have gotten wet (water or overfilled gas) or a critter might have mess around the module or it's wires. Those are some of the reason I've seen module fail other than overloading the inverter.
@@tacticalpowerpro I used a STA-BIL Storage Fuel Stabilizer to make the gasoline last longer, as per recommendations read online about gasoline going bad after 2-3 months. Could that be the issue? Could it be anything else other than dirty carburetor? Thanks!
Few things might be your issue. Dirty carb is the most likely one, the spark plug might have some carbon buildup or the spark arrester is getting clogged with carbon. Verify all 3.
Ya didn't show the screw that holds the spark arrester screen ring insert onto the orifice... Quite a BEAR to actually deal with for the chap that may not have the particular tools available to handle the exhaust carbon buildup...😮
Yo are correct, it can be a pain to remove that particular screw. I use a screwdriver and go in at an angle. With some generators I use a 1/4” ratchet with a 1/4” socket and a Phillips bit.
The fix is the same. Matter of fact it’s easier. You need to clean the carburetor specially the pilot jet (the black jet on top of the carburetor). The carburetor is easier to reach in the 4000watt Ryobi.
Facts! I use SeaFoam fuel treatment (stabilizer) on all my generators. I advised the owner of the Ryobi in the video to use fuel stabilizer from now on.
Fuel stabilizers can still provide some benefits in gasoline that has been stored for more than 6 months, but their effectiveness may be reduced. While stabilizers can help prevent further degradation and the formation of varnish and gums, they might not reverse the damage already done to the fuel. If gasoline has been stored for a significantly long time without a stabilizer, its quality might have deteriorated, and using it in engines or machinery could lead to performance issues. In such cases, it's best to consider proper disposal and use fresh fuel for optimal performance and reliability.
@@tacticalpowerpro Yup. For a generator I would totally drain any gas right after using it, if its purpose was the rare power outage. Otherwise the gas (treated or not) could sit there for years. But for northern dwellers when your equipment (lawnmowers, snowblowers) sit for months at a time, but get used every year, stabilizer is a must. My snowblower is 18 years old (Toro) and runs like a champ. It still idles. Same with my honda lawnmower. By stabilizing my gas can, everytime, I never have to remember to add stabilizer its always there.
The surging problem is a very common issue with portable gasoline generators. Follow the steps on my video and let me know if it worked for you. Thanks for watching the video.
Ok, make sure the fuel level float inside the tank is not stuck in the bottom position. Also follow the wires coming out the fuel float and verify the connections are not loose.

That was perfect! Just sub'd
Thanks for the sub! I’m glad my video was helpful.
What was the watts from the heat gun you tested with?
The heat gun was 1700 watts
@@tacticalpowerpro Wow! My heat gun is 1350 and it overloads my Ryobi
Is your Ryobi the “newer” version? I have found that the newer Ryobi don’t react well if you suddenly demand more than 1000 watts. But clean the carburetor, check spark plug gap and clean the spark arrester. really good you might just have a dirty carb.
Did all the steps and it is running better but still not like new. Will not run at idle any tips?
Sounds like the pilot jet is still clogged or one of it’s small o-rings was damaged. It has two small o-rings and if they break or stretched they will not seal properly and the generator will surge at idle.
Thank you
Thank you for watching my video and supporting my channel 🙏🏾
does the fuel tank have to be empty?
Can you get ethanol free?
This is almost identical inside to my champion 2000w
Will the team have a solution or they will no longer be useful :(
@@GermanSalvadorCortezZamorano looks like you have a bad inverter module. Where was the inverter generator stored? the inverter module might have gotten wet (water or overfilled gas) or a critter might have mess around the module or it's wires. Those are some of the reason I've seen module fail other than overloading the inverter.
@@GermanSalvadorCortezZamorano replacing the inverter module might be your option.
I have exercised it every month since purchasing. Getting rougher each time.
Have you used any fuel additive in the fuel?
@@tacticalpowerpro I used a STA-BIL Storage Fuel Stabilizer to make the gasoline last longer, as per recommendations read online about gasoline going bad after 2-3 months. Could that be the issue? Could it be anything else other than dirty carburetor? Thanks!
Few things might be your issue. Dirty carb is the most likely one, the spark plug might have some carbon buildup or the spark arrester is getting clogged with carbon. Verify all 3.
Bro! Thank you! I was about to throw my generator off a cliff.
😂 you’re welcome! I’m glad my video was helpful. Thanks to you for watching my video.
I've cleaned mine and still surging, now I know why 😂😂
😂 You forgot to clean the pilot jet?
Mine is the same but only 6 months old!!
When was the last time you started the generator?
I have the 4000 watt ryobi doing the same thing
The fix is the same. Matter of fact it’s easier. You need to clean the carburetor specially the pilot jet (the black jet on top of the carburetor). The carburetor is easier to reach in the 4000watt Ryobi.
My load-level stay at 6 and 7w
Careful not to overload it 🤣🤣
❤
Use fuel stabilizer... everytime... and you won't have this problem.
Facts! I use SeaFoam fuel treatment (stabilizer) on all my generators. I advised the owner of the Ryobi in the video to use fuel stabilizer from now on.
Will fuel stabilizer work in gasoline stored for more than 6 months?
Wow mine is doing the same thing I'm going to give it a try thanks for this cool video 💯
The surging problem is a very common issue with portable gasoline generators. Follow the steps on my video and let me know if it worked for you. Thanks for watching the video.
@@tacticalpowerpro It work out for me the surging prolblem now its saying low on gas when i have gas in the tank can you help me
Ok, make sure the fuel level float inside the tank is not stuck in the bottom position. Also follow the wires coming out the fuel float and verify the connections are not loose.
@@tacticalpowerpro Sounds good ill check out tomorrow but i must say after cleaning the surge prolblem it starts with 1 pull and stays running thanks for your video happy holidays my friend your rocking for sure to help peaple thanks again ill get back to you about the float and wires. 💯

hi i have a ryobi rg 2100i inverter it runs fine but as soon as you plug in at the power point the red light comes on and the engine wants to stall
you unplug the power then its run fine again
