Cannot believe Ferreira started this game. I saw him play with nervous first touches, and constantly play the safe backwards pass vs the proactive pass continuing the attack. He was playing like he just didnt want to make a mistake. How can you expect a player like him (who looked extremely shaky in qualifying) to be confident playing his first minutes in the biggest game of the tournament? Bad coaching from Gregg. Gio should have started that game.
Tactical disaster for berhalter, Van Gaal out classed him.
And this is a surprise to who exactly he rotted Aaronson and gio Reyna two great talents who now suck thanks to Gregball
@@samuraigaming3042they didnt even suck lol. They got the team so much more openess and chances.
Craig's team selection has been headscratching the whole world cup.... How does Reyna not start
Gio didn’t do anything either
@@maharajaramzan4211 Reyna wasn't great today either. The US lacks depth and elite finishers. They had 3 golden opportunities to score and came away with 0 goals. Netherlands converted.
As a Dutchman I was surprised people said the US had a good chance to win, while basically everyone knew beforehand how to beat the US. The Netherlands waited calmly for a chance and pushed at the right moments. Whenever the US seemed confident that confidence was crushed within minutes.
Im not going to lie i had confidence. The US would beat an oit of rhythm netherlands but as you said we're not at that level or have the players of the Netherlands. It hit me hard . I hope one day we can beat a European team in the world cup. It sucks we just cant do it. Maybe one day . I hope 🙏 the Netherlands did what they had to. Very little good to talk about this match on my side of the US But we have a promising future ill always support this mediocre team. It was good for us because we didnt qualify for 2018 world cup
That fact that Gregg would rather start Ferreira at 9 instead of changing tactics and putting Reyna at 10 proves that he needs to go. He added soooo much more in the second half than Ferreira did in the first. I actually forgot he was on the pitch in the first because he was almost invisible.
I didn't know Ferreira was playing until he got substituted at the half. Why the f*ck would anyone leave their one real 9 (Pepe) off the roster let alone out of the starting XI?
MLS quota. Pepi was sorely missed
And when he did get involved it was bad. At top of box ball came to him as US pressed and he whiffed, the ball rolling on to Pulisic who overhit a pass to someone. If Gio was there not Ferrera maybe....
Small coach
Man idk
Herc is so right - perfect analysis of what went down. LVG smoked Berhalter. And that was totally the issue with both goals. He continued to have Dest/Robinson push up and they were happy to soak up pressure & counter. They knew that the CBs were 35, and all due respect, MLS (Zimmerman), and could be beat as there was way too much for Adams to cover. The midfield left them out to dry on both. It's those moments and the Pulisic chance that was saved. Having said all that... this USA team did show that over the last 20 years, they gap has narrowed a bit with the quality of their players and I was happy how brave they played. But they needed to be better & smarter tactically. Musah was invisible today.
Reyna was as well . All others were average at best. We needed big games from all and it didn't happen
Yes Musah invisible. :/
@@chrisjunker3517 not sure if you agree or not - but if not, what impact did he have for thr US that day? For me he was clearly done legs wise and had no energy.
They need to hire Pep Guardiola as USMNT coach
The biggest takeaway from this match is that this is the USA’s level. They’ve improved but still a long way to the very top level. Even a pretty average Dutch squad comfortably beat the USA
The Netherlands had a perfect game plan and executed it perfectly. This US team has always had problems breaking down a team to score. This US team usually scores off set pieces and quick counters.
The Netherlands dared the US to break down their defense and the US couldn’t get any dangerous touches around the box. Then the Netherlands hit quickly on the counters with quick one touch finishes. Once it was 2-0 .. the game felt over.. even when Wright scored.
Yeah the us got out managed and didn’t have the talent to break out of it
We need pep guardiola to coach USMNT
Pretty much. This
Van Gal was Playing 3D chess while US couldn’t even play soccer😅
Good post. However, there’s no excuse to turn off during a match of this magnitude. When you are not aware of where the opponents are at, it’s an issue. I don’t know if Zimmerman needed to mark the far corner but leaving Dumfries alone, unmarked is inexcusable. Then, before that, no one is positioned at the top of the box to stifle cutbacks. Netherlands scored two goals because of that. This is a coaching problem and a player problem.
Keller very negative about the Dutch team. He's overlooking players like Van Dijk, Aké, Frenkie de Jong, Gakpo and Memphis. This team has the ability to both control the game and play total football on the counter attack. I think they are 19 matches unbeaten now under Van Gaal 👍
That’s just Keller’s personality. He tends to be negative and it gets old fast.
Herc is 100% correct, this team was naive. They are young, they didn't have the right guidance, in my opinion, in a manager to be prepared for this match. Hopefully they will learn from this and get better and younger players will step up and provide the depth we need. We require a #9 to develop in the next 4 years.
We desperately need A#9. Also pulisic really should have put that away
We desperately need a new coach!!!!
Agreed. You can not play this open against the top European teams. The result would have been even worse if you played against Mbappe's France.
@@erobsessedk1298 we have a 9 in Pefok and even Pepi who didn't even make the team bc the higher ups care more about promoting MLS than actually winning games.
@@dylanvogler2165 and he should have figured out a way to play his best 11 players and adjusted the formation. I think they should hire a European coach that just cares about winning games.

Rooting for you all the way.
Why is anyone perplexed about the result?. The Netherlands is a top-tier world-class national team. The outcome of the game is rather expected.
*ESPN FC can finally stop making 5 videos a day hyping up USA/pulisic*
I thought I was the only one that got sick of it.
Netherlands simply has quality the US currently doesn’t have… that was insane how easy they made it look in both goals. All that 1 touch football, and clinical finishing… wild. Meanwhile, the US couldn’t finish so many of the chances in this tournament. Not even hitting the target in some clear chances. Overall, good performance from the team, honestly IMO, I feel like this team and for what most of the fan base thinks about the coach going into this…we clearly over performed. Hope Gregg leaves, and we get an experience head coach, from outside the MLS bubble. This player Pool is so talented, it deserves to have a proper coach and a playing style well established for 2026.
As a Dutchy i never really had the feeling the US would really beat us. Having the ball is something different then actually doing something good with it.
With that being said. The US have a young squad and will be at there prime in 4 years when you play at home. 👍🇳🇱
Your team is slow. The Americans ran you guys up and down the field. If they knew how to defend and to finish your side would be going home.

Elite International teams have that 'next level' they consistently go to when the stakes become high... a level the USMNT has yet to find in consistent measure.

You have a fun team. Really fun to watch. But so naive. You can't be playing so open in the back against European top 10 teams. They will shred you in the counterattack. I hope this will be used as a lesson for 2026. If so you can come far then

@@JuniorJuni070 explain that in ecuadorian terms
Usa won't win then still
Very simple, this was men VS boys. US needs to let reality sink in. You don’t win games at big tournaments this way. Never stood a chance, even if supporters or team thought so. Dutch did what Italy does well, let the opponent think they have a chance and can play. Then strike. Better luck in 2026, will be a great event.
You’re exaggerating but not off base. The US is just developing a fútbol tradition and other countries have had it for decades. They can’t expect to win everything.
@@grl9917 don’t really agree with that excuse. There was a 1994 World Cup in the US. Look at the Women’s team. Look at how fast Women teams in Europe are now developing. There literally was no Women’s league 20 years ago and in the last 10 years the Dutch ladies became Euro champion and WC finalists. The US has more inhabitants than whole of Europe. How many Euro countries have better teams than the US? The Netherlands fits 16 times in Texas and has now 18 million people. The MLS structure is the problem. But, things should be looking better. Massive business opportunity for “soccer” to grow in US. Money rules. Should have a world dominating team at some point. Look at UK. Their uprising is based on the last decade (or two) of massive money influences.
@@razorsharp9850 The US press overhypes the team. It is a good team but not yet world class. If this group continues to stay with their clubs in Europe they will be ready. The returns to the MLS gives a false sense of achievement. When it is time to play a European or South American squad it is an entirely different experience.
@@razorsharp9850 It has to do with football culture which is deeply engraved into European sports for decades and decades as apposed to the US...that is why the Netherlands women's team quickly caught up, football is the nr. 1 sport there and it always has been...the facilities, development of players and coaches, tactics have alle been there for a while. The number of inhabitants means close to nothing without the fundamentals...
@@fek8085 ok, and now look at England? Same culture as the Germans for decades, if not more. Very bad national team. Nor strongest league in the world, Euro finalist and possibly WC finalist. What created their change in the past 10-15 years? All I am saying is that the US can make a big jump as well if they work on changing the foundations. And that will cost money. Making soccer more popular over other sports in certain areas also costs money. It’s not going to be the only factor. But for sure if they don’t start pushing it, the organic change will be too slow and two decades from now you will still be at the same issue.
Hi im from the Netherlands and was wondering how you guys were analyzing this defeat.
Some remarks were spot on. In the Netherlands the media are pretty negative about our own squad and the way they are playing (it should be beautiful, like Johan Cruijff 70's where we won exactly nothing).
In 2010 we had a boring squad with mediocre players like Joris Mathijssen, Andre Ooijer etc. But our coach then (van Marwijk) played a more pragmatic, defensive system to at least win. In short, we managed to come to the final. But the media was not happy with the way of playing, even though we did dominate (without ball). Some even said they would be ashamed if we'd won the final against Spain. Can u imagine that?
In my opinion the best domination is when you dont need the ball to be safe: a rock solid defence with closed lines and pressing on the right moment. Louis van Gaal also transformed from possesion based football too non possesion based football.
That said, kudos for the clear analyze. Hope the USA will become a stronger nation overall for 2026. Dont forget: possesion means nothing in football. Look up Inter Milan 2010 or UEL final between ajax and Man utd (mourinho).
In hindsight it wasnt 50/50. Our media is way to negative about our squad. Also it was a bit expected to get more space vs the way USA played. The dutch squad is full of talent and we managed to place into the final of the Nations League, beating prime France and Germany. And here we are now, with the same players and a pragmatic coach. I just wanted to say its not a shame if you get beaten by this side, maybe a bit of a hard lesson but we've had these in the past (98's, 00's, 08's).
We could just go all the way, who knows.
The Netherlands-Spain in the finals is my guess!
@Jan Tejeda will be a tough tough match but i'm already proud of our teamspirit.
To talk in van Gaal 's words; we dont have the best players but with this setup "we can come an end". 😜
@@grl9917 France, Portugal, Spain vs Brazil/Argentina/or hopefully the Dutchies xD
The 2010 squad was the best squad we ever had at a WC. V Persie, Sneijder and Robben are all 2 tiers above Depay. Van Marwijk was a horrible coach, which is why in 2012 Euro, it was abysmal. People keep parroting each others and are blind themselves. Football is decided mostly by turnovers and set pieces. Those few moments create the few goals we have in football. And those decide the matches. It is true that possession is not important. But the problem with many Dutch squads has always been useless possession. Even Under V Marwijk. Why? Because they put on 2 defensive midfielders. Our media is always way too positive, claiming we are favorites for the WC. It is just that football coaches mostly don't know or don't dare to make the right decisions. They are all afraid of the players getting nervous, chaotic, and then losing. So with the huge pressure, the coach wants to gain control. And they do so by playing more defensively, giving the players all kinds of rules to follow. This is one of the reasons why in 2010 and 2014, Brazil was so bad.
If you want to win in football, you need to be able to outplay the opponent. Many teams have enough quality to easily create scoring opportunities against an organized defense. So goals that do not come from a turnover. The Dutch did it once during the US with the first goal. But they are not allowed to play that way because of LVG.
Under V Basten, the Dutch played their best football. But the players lost their minds vs Portugal in a crazy games with tons of cards. And then vs Russia, a child of one of the players died during childbirth and the players didn't have the focus on the game.
In 2014, LVGs tactical plan was failing basically every game. They needed to go back to 4-3-3 every time to avoid losing. And even vs Spain, they could have been 2-0 behind after 30 minutes. It just helps to have world class players and suddenly, you look like a tactical genius.
Most of the people on here hating on the U.S. never played an organized sport in their life. They also have no respect for the game let alone any sport.
I get what you’re saying but let’s be honest those three goals that the US let in, anyone can critic them. When you got players wide open inside the box like that you don’t need to play an organize sport to understand those were really amateur mistakes.
@@BigSuzpekt I agree 100 percent. Maybe they'll learn from this loss and can be better in 2026. It's been a fun World cup so far.
As a Dutchy don’t feel so hard on yourself you have a talented group and in 3.5 years they will be good enough to get into the semi’s and with some luck into the final
It was nice that McKennie painted the Dutch flag in his hair. Out of respect.
The US had two problems today. 1) An inept coach who fell right into LVG's arms. 2) Too many MLS players in that XI. Ferreira and the backline were abysmal, and its not a coincidence that they are the ones who do not play in Europe and regularly compete against the very best.
Should be fired for wearing a frickin' T-Shirt, while LVG looked snappy in that suit. Clothes make the man.
@@edlawn5481 nah, clothes are superficial and primitive.
What matters are results
Netherlands attacking players were insane, especially Memphis depay. Every single time the wingers or depay got the ball, they were just flying past the US defenders. They were dangerous every touch they had. That’s the difference between a side like the dutch compared to a young US team. Also LVG is one of the best coaches ever, it was a total mismatch in terms of game schemes and planning and executing. Talented players but with a world class manager compared to not as talented but young energetic American players with a manager not near the level of LVG.
That’s not true at all. The ball was taken away from the orange many times.

You guys really thought you’d win?
Of course a coach wearing a suit is going to outclass a guy wearing a T-Shirt.
We had better players all over the pitch
The 3rd goal sums it up. I saw it happening 5 mins before it happened. NED won the ball and Dumfries was open for a good 5 mins without anyone paying him attention. I was thinking NED, u gotta be daft if u don't get that ball to him.
I've seen some American predictions, talking about how Holland want to press and have the ball, and the US packing the middle so the Dutch had to go wide. That's the Dutch of the early 2000's. Any one with a brain watching the Dutch play must surely realise they do not struggle on the counter attack. And don't really care about possession.
Once again USA not doing good against European countries in the world cup. Yugoslavia and Germany in 1998, Poland and Germany in 2002, Czech Republic in 2006, did tie Italy in 2006 who won the cup that year, tied both Slovenia and England in 2010, Germany and Belgium in 2014, tied England and lost to Netherlands this cup. USA not prepared to face the BIG Boys in the cup.
Easy explanation. Concacaf has weak teams. If the US wants to become a good football team they need to try and join the Conmebol to play more matches at higher level and slowly improve. The Gold Cup is a joke of a tournament bcs it always ends up with Mexio-USA. That's no tournament to measure your strength when you play knock out matches against el salvador, cuba, haita etc ....
@@pikabuu6315 Concacaf not even in their dreams will let the US or Mexico leave the confederation. Both are the money makes for Concacaf, all they care about is making sure those two always end up in the final because of all the money it brings, 2015 was a front face example. They don’t care about the teams' growth or if they could become a football powerhouse, as long a they get big paychecks they're happy.

When I saw us going at the Netherlands at the beginning of the game I was happy but also thinking about how long we were going to be able to maintain that kind of energy. That kind of high energy at the beginning needed a goal or two so that our players could take a rest later, unfortunately it didn't happen.😪
I thought, if we didn't score in the first ten minutes, it was all over, and well........there it was.

I honestly think the USA had the most athletic team in the comp. But they lack a bit of composure and maybe the experience that CL/EPL/LA LIGA players have from competing at that level every week. I hope the USA players get a lot more time in these comps between now and the next WC
Keep your heads up high my American cousins you played well
This don’t know what they are talking about … they overhyped the USS mid field so much but yet.. after the Dutch gave them to make the game they didn’t know what to do with the ball 😂😂
Ain’t that something 😂
The US midfield is top level but that's on more defensive duties, like closing down the opposition and stopping them from playing. However in this game Holland turned the tactical tables and their midfield didn't even try to compete with the US midfield, so they allowed USA to have the ball in midfield knowing that the US midfield would struggle because it isn't that attack minded or creative. Holland basically set a trap, waited and waited, then when the moment arose they sprung their counter attack whilst the US defence was caught upfield and vulnerable.
Netherlands experience showed today.
As a European whose country is not even in the World Cup I give the USMNT a lot of respect. They showed a lot of heart and will out there. No reason to be ashamed at all.

The better team won. The US could have made more of it but I think one key improvement is needed: more one touch passing in the offensive half and first touches that keep the flow of the play moving smoothly. So often we have the right ideas but are too slow to execute or take a touch that breaks the play down. Of course tracking and marking lost us the game today, as well as not finishing easy opportunities, but that was just how it played in this game
Easy opportunities? Calma calma
Sorry but we lost because we had a bad plan and didn’t adapt after it was clear we were getting schooled. Berhalter only put in two so-so centerbacks against a very good team. He let the fullbacks get forward. Van Gall saw this and realized he could throw everyone forward on the counterattack. Netherlands had 2 world class CBs and 1 very good CB so they could afford to push 6+ players into the counterattack. Look at how many orange shirts are in and around the US box on each of the 3 goals. It was bound to happen that 1 or more Dutch attackers would be unmarked. We also failed to adapt. The three goals all came off essentially the same play.
Today we saw what a highly experienced and quality coach can bring you…. As what’s said in this video, lvg totally ripped apart Gregg berhalter.
On one side you have Louis, smart, tactically wise one of the best coaches to ever live, let’s his sides play to their qualities, but always built in certain patterns to keep his sides balanced, his choice of tactics today were simply brilliant.
On the other side you have Greg…riskant tactics, spaces between midfield and backline wide open, weird subs management, weird roster picks, and to much more honestly.

What exactly did LVG bring to this game? Weird sub management and weird roster picks sounds exactly like Van Gaal. The US was attacking because the Dutch were weak. But because they didn't score people are pretending that the Dutch feigned weakness and it was a trick. Which genius coach makes his squad give away scoring opportunities only to trick the opponent into thinking they are better? Crazy talk!
@@Prometheus4096 I can't tell if you're being deliberately obtuse but structuring a team around counterplay is a really common tactic in football. In fact, it's slowly but surely become arguably the most popular tactic in European club football, spearheaded by clubs like Benfica, Atlético de Madrid, PSV, Tottenham Hotspur, Olympique Lyonnais, Borussia Dortmund and practically every Italian team except arguably Juventus and Napoli, and now implemented widely all around the continent. There's multiple different ways to do this. The Italian philosophy is called catenaccio and it's the most surface-level counterplay tactic, literally just sitting back and waiting for an opportunity to strike. But there's also counterplay tactics that actively force your opponent into making mistakes. A well-known German philosophy is called gegenpressing, and is geared towards immediately winning back the ball after losing it, so that you can swiftly catch your opponent in a forward motion. The tactic Van Gaal used against the USA is quite unorthodox, which is why it's so genius. He calls it "provocative pressing", and it's essentially a tactic that's both very defensive AND employs a lot of players high up the pitch to threaten the opposing build-up play, forcing mistakes. Then, upon winning the ball, the attackers or midfielders will immediately have their wing backs to support them in attack, which is what killed the USA off at every single goal they conceded. Counter football wears out your opponent and makes sure you always have enough space when attacking, which makes it a very efficient tactic. At this World Cup alone, we've seen the Netherlands, England, Wales, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Australia, Japan, Croatia, Morocco, Cameroon, Uruguay AND South Korea employ counter play tactics. So idk what you're on about.
The U.S players need to learn how to move without the ball, you know how easy it is to defend a non moving target. There wasn’t enough plays moving forward they always ended up going backwards and let’s not talk about their defending in the box. The U.S has a young team that will only get better. The future looks bright oh and berhalter has to go and quick, he is not the man to lead the U.S. He has dull and safe strategies nothing aggressive and never learns to adjust.

As a European casual enjoyer of the soccerball. I for one, liked the U.S. style of playing. I thought you were exciting, aggressive, energetic, attacking but very naive, but that comes with experience and coaching. Technique beats athleticism 9/10 times btw.
Van Gaal has coached a couple of the biggest club teams in the world...and won silverware at all of them. There is no shame in losing to the Dutch and Van Gaal. Van Gaal will bore you to death and as you are about to die they will score.
So again, I thought the U.S. were one of the better teams in terms of style. Now if you's can marry that with substance, the U.S. will win the world cup.
(substance means players that are rated over 90 on FIFA)
US lost the midfield battle today… Thus the US lost…
I think this game was more suited for a 4 4 2. Netherlands played with a 3 5 2 so that midfield was all dutch. Instead the US would push the full backs up to help with the midfield. You saw this in the first goal with dumfries open on the right side.
As a Premier League fan, I was so impressed with the USA, wish they had more quality forwards. The style of play is great, keep building.
Humbled!!! 😂
They needed that
how were they humbled when no one was cocky or thought they were gonna win
There was no humbling, getting out of the group was considered a successful World Cup for us American fans. You guys act like our football fans have as much hubris as the English yet we're actually a very pessimistic fanbase. God forbid we also say we show a little bit of pride for getting out of the group and we have to be "humbled" for it. Absurd

The USA competed well despite the defeat they created a lot of good
chances and played some decent football at times it wasn't an easy
game for the Netherlands in the slightest despite the scoreline.
Being prolific with the chances they created and experience won
the Netherlands the game, the USA created just as many chances
they just couldn't convert them. if the USA had a decent Striker upfront
and a few other players who could also score goals and perhaps
a more experienced center back they could be a legitimate top-10 team
in the future.
A small correction for Keller, the Dutch team it’s certainly a world class team. WC qualifiers, Nations league and so far this WC shows that. Our numbers don’t lie. And we beat great teams before the WC
This generation of dutch players isn’t very good.
@@rogierb7577 I'd say hit and miss but we do have more hits with these guys. Okay, we have the best defense in the world, we don't have exceptional strikeforce across the board yet but we are underway, Noa Lang and Xavi Simons are ready to shine. The USA needs to build more grassroots football while utilizing your great athletic infrastructure and oh yeah built a Football Culture just like your Top 4 Sports.
There’s no excuse to turn off during a match of this magnitude, and that’s what the US did. When they are not aware of where the opponents are at, it’s an issue. Maybe we need to bring in a new coach, maybe an internationally well respected coach.
Thank God for the dutch
As an England fan, USA have been impressive all tournament. Shame you lost out. Concentrate on next four years and you could be a real global force to be reckoned with.
I don’t think Berhalter is to blame, his tactics were pretty sound. One thing he can’t control is poor finishing or lack of depth on the US team. Goal scoring has been an issue for a while and it was inevitable that as the opposition got better it would become a bigger issue.
He should've called up players who CAN put the ball in the back of the net. So it is largely on Berhalter for his stupid MLS quota
Perhaps you should learn about ⚽ tactics, you clearly don't understand what you see 🤔

I'm sorry US for your loss. Although, as a Chilean, I had to support Argentina (South America first!), I was hoping for more from the USA. The USA defense sucks and needs a lot of work. The defense players were like deer in the light, instead of keeping an eye on the attackers, their attention was on the ball, leaving the Dutch forward free to do pretty much whatever they wanted. My Dutch friends watching the game with me were like, wow! Really! That was easy! No one was marking; instead, they [the defense] had their feet glued to the grass while they watched the Dutch players take their sweet time to hit the ball...sorry, it was sad to watch. Lastly, the USA player lacked creativity; they were so predictable: too much coaching doesn't let the creativity and spontaneity of the player flow). Finally, you guys need someone that can score goals. That being said, we, Latinos, have seen USA football players ( Yes, the game nowadays is called football) grow in skills; you are not quite there yet, but close!

Man, the Netherlands had the better player on every spot on the field and a way better coach...be real...
I knew when Pulisic missed that gimme it was over.
If you play with 4 defenders, you should have a pivot defensive mid. Otherwise, you should play with 3 centerbacks with one cb follow their inverted winger. Depay was free today. The US players quality is not that bad but yeah De Jong, Depay is a level above them.
The only thing i didn't like about the team was the coach to be honest. As much as the USA football team is young, inexperienced but they are improving vs 10 years ago. He didn't utilize Aaronson nor Reyna which is a shocker to me to be honest. Tyler Adams is an absolute beast in the midfield. Pulisic ain't that bad, Dest has opened a lot of people's eyes that he is actually a sound player. In Conclusion, I'm not American but i am truly proud of the Americans developed their football over the years specially after that sprout happened in Germany it has accelerated and opened a new avenue for Americans to actually play at a high level and that is only going to get better. Great Job analysing this game guys. Said everything that had to be said.
If you’re gonna press, you have to have your legs ready to track back when you lose the ball. Undisciplined marking lost the game.
Football in America still needs to develop
It won’t as long as they keep calling it soccer.
The U.S. has only begun developing in the last 20 years. The best athletes still play other sports here. They are at least 10 years away from being a top team and without a miracle run at a world cup the quality athletes continue to ignore the sport.
The reason why the USA lost is because they expected a similar game to the England game. However the Holland manager used Ali's "rope a dope" tactic. They learnt from the England game and saw that USA were a difficult team to beat due to having a fantastic organised defence and midfield but the big problem for the US is the poor (almost non existent attack). So instead of Holland showing their superiority the Dutch manager swallowed his pride and decided to sit back defending allowing/wanting the US to attack. USA dominated most of the match but looked pretty clueless and so predictable when they approached the Holland penalty area, fair enough it was difficult because Holland defended deep in numbers they never created any problems to Holland, then Hollands tactic was to allow USA to attack pushing plenty of players up field then having quick counter attacks whilst the US was open and vulnerable. There are positives for the USA though, your team is young and can compete against the best but you must find some strikers from somewhere and be more direct trying to score instead of playing pretty sideways passes.
Louise van Gaal did his homework
Defense didn’t show up. Can’t connect in the box to score

The Americans had no one to push through the defensive solidity of Virgil and Ake.
The first goal was Tyler Adams fault. Depay was his man in that situation, and Adams was too slow getting back. Second goal was Dest's fault- he was in a good position but didn't react quick enough to a fairly pedestrian pass. The third goal, Robinson got sucked in and completely forgot about his wide man. I'm all for getting rid of Greg, but you can't put this on him. Three individual mistakes cost us the game, it's that simple. This was not some demonstration of superior tactical or technical ability, it was mistakes.
I agree with you but at the same time Greg should’ve set the game up differently. Van Gal set up the game for the US to have more possession. I think Greg should’ve played a bit more conservative on counters. Netherlands suck with possession. But yeah those unmarked players in the box just show the experience.
