So i use auto white balance in my photography always. i usually shoot between f7 and f11 for beauty. I also like my ISO between 100 - 200 because i like a little grain in it even if it is minimal
Hey Ryan, great video! I have a question for you would you mind sharing what color backdrop was you using? I'm also curious if you've tried it on medium or dark skin tones. Thanks in advance!
Great video Ryan. Self-Portrait in a model's eye .. love it. I like that 105 and kinda wishing I would have picked that instead of the 85mm. Now saving for the Z9 - but will get the 105 some time after that (Dec. - Jan. ?)
this 105 is the macro version not the regular 105 lens. its a big difference. that lens is WAYYY more expensive then this macro lens. but the 85 1.8 s lens... i LIVEEEE by that lens.. it is my favorite Nikon Z lens
@@RyanTroy - I didn't realize there were two different 105 z lenses - glad you pointed that out (I haven't researched that). and yep - love my 85. I do have the f-mount 105 macro - so no rush. TY for dropping me the note - it's appreciated.
@@charlesdavis6371 nah the only z 105 is the macro but the lens everyone raves about is the regular 105. You would use them both for different things. I just don’t want you to buy the macro thinking it’s the 105 1.4 that everyone loves.
@@RyanTroy - ahhhh .. now I gotcha. Yea, my f-mount is the 2.8 macro - not the 1.4. Love to have the 1.4, but like you say - too much money ... at least until the f-mounts come down in price.
The Godox wireless receivers are in short supply. I was able to buy the combo with transmitter and receiver but cannot find receivers anywhere to use with multiple off camera flash scenarios.
Honestly i just got the dream job of my life.. i finally get to put photography second and keep the passion and desire alive again. mostly everything i will be shooting will be for fun now.
@@RyanTroy Oh ok cool bro that’s awesome. I assumed photography was your first passion based on your content. Congratulations!! 🎉🍾 I look forward to seeing more work!!
Dope video and tips. I may have to incorporate some of this into my next shoot. I’ve been eyeballing that 105 MC since it was announced. 🔥🔥🔥 content as always bro. Glad to see the videos dropping consistently again.
@@RyanTroy no problem bro. And by the looks of those images I agree that lens is 🔥. I’d like to see what you think of the 28-75. I looked at that too and the price is enticing but I either want to test it or see a real opinion by someone I trust on it before purchasing. The fact that it’s not an S lens is what’s holding me back.
Good video Ryan! Personally I can’t get my shots at your pace, I have the vintage Nikkor 105 f4 AIS MF Micro lens, and let me tell you it is some fantastic glass in the studio. I really like your output from your lens and camera combo though, it’s a winner!
I find it interesting why so many people are jumping up and down in anticipation of the 85mm f1.2 Z mount lens when you are shooting great images with 105mm f2.8 and 85mm f1.8 at F8/F9 and the images speak for themselves. The few time I have watched Portrait/Studio Photographers shoot it is rarely wide open. Example if you had a 85mm f1.2 shooting wide open at 6' away your depth of field is only .1' (1.2 inches) this gets even less if you are closer (which you are from what I can tell) and obviously better at longer distances away from the subject. If you were 20" away with the same lens (obviously not a head shot shot) your depth of field is 1.19'. I would think f1.8/2.8 glass is more than adequate since you are using flash not shooting in extremely low natural light. I guess some claim the f1.2 versions are better optically at any f stop, do you agree and if "yes" is it so much better it is worth the extra cost.
I have a friend that doesnt consider a lens "professional" if it isnt 1.4 or 1.2 he still shoots DSLR and he loves his 105 1.4.. i tried to explain to him how good the 1.8's are.. i love the 85 focal distance to be honest. im satisfied with my 85 1.8 but i would still love to compare it when it comes out but depending on cost i may not buy it. i have my eyes on two lenses.. one the 70-200 2.8 and the 28-75 2.8 for my video stuff
It doesn't make any sense to hold the reflector down under the model face, because the only light used is behind you, it cannot be reflected and bounced on the handled reflector, and of course ambient light wont be registered in your shot (in case that the reflector is pushing ambient light to her face). Just saying ...
well if that was the case then the reflector wouldnt be shown in the eye as a catch light... the reflector does its job to make the shadows not so harsh. the umbrella pushes light from all angles.
Love the shoot, awesome models too. Keep'em coming.
Lovely shots.
Thank you so much 😀
Very good photoshoot, Kenzie and Ellie looked so good for the 105 2.8 lens
Thank you!
I LOVE YOUR RETOUCHING SKILLS!
Thank you!!!
Amazing images!!!! Did you just get the Z9???
No sir! I still have my Z7ii and Z6ii
@@RyanTroy Niceee, I love my Z6ii. I'll just wait until the Z8, Z1, or Z6iii or whatever it will be called.
Very vibrant skin tones…love the photos…

@@RyanTroy Thanks
Hello, which backdrops and stands do you use?
Neewer Heavy Duty Stands
@@RyanTroy thank you and love the vids
great work bro!!!
Appreciate it!
WhT size is the beauty dish
65 inch umbrella. No beauty dish used
By shooting all close how do you get the image on Instagram without cropping
most beauty shots are close on instagram. its more about a certain part you want to show instead of the whole face
Ok got you thank you
broooooo these are tufffff
imma use that 24-105 tho but imma try to get these looks
Yes sir! thank you!

Really? i didnt know that ive had mine for so long. but if you cant get one just get a godox speed light and use it as a trigger!
Thank you for a great tutorial :) Fantastic images!
Thank you!!
What apertures are you using with the different lenses?
with studio stuff i stay between f 7-9 so i can retain as much detail as possible.
Dude you’re dope AF!! Great shots. Which Glow Umbrella is that? They have so many different 65 in umbrellas.
Thank You amzn.to/3jAxTGY this is a link to the one that i use
Thanks for sharing

Just peeped this video... It's funny because I'm the only person I know that uses my macro exclusively for headshots. I love my 105

Why a macro can’t that work with an 85mm
macro lenses allow you to get closer and gives you way more detail.
