    I think you made misinformation about using a V Mount battery, while what I can tell you coming from me that shoots lots of videos with the new Z6III is that it can be powered with a V Mount battery with no issues. Maybe you need to check that your USB-C cable and also check that you have Power Delivery PD selected to be able to charge the battery via USB-C.

      That is absolutely silly to have to rely on the USB-C port to power my camera via V-Mount battery rather than a D-Tap connection, lol. Your only proving my point that if thats how you get around the issue.

      This is a hybrid photo camera with video features. If this had a V-mount battery on it, I’d lose my mind at the design.
      An adapter to a V-mount plate exists and it makes the most logical sense for this style of camera. (They make dummy batteries that go to D-Tap.) I don’t know why you’re doubling down saying this proves your point.

      There should be no reason why I have to be on a professional set and rely on USB-C rather than a D-Tap connection. What you suggest is a workaround rather than dealing with the issue directly. The problem still exists. That's the point of my video.

    You missed one of the biggest flaws of this camera and Nikon mirrorless cameras in general. That is the inability to record video to the backup memory card slot. You can do it while taking photos, I'm not sure why you can't do it in video mode. Literally every other brand has already implemented this. Please Nikon give us a firmware update for this!

    As a fellow Nikon shooter, I believe the Nikon Z6III is an excellent all-around hybrid camera. However, if I had to shoot videos longer than 20 minutes, I would opt for the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX or the Canon EOS R5 C, as these hybrid cameras are better suited for extended recording times. I have shot with Canon, Fuji, Nikon, and Panasonic, and currently own the Nikon Z8, Z6, and some Nikon DSLRs that I will never part with. The best hybrid camera for video that I have used was the Panasonic. The Panasonic never overheated on me, and I never worried about it either. The biggest downside for Panasonic cameras, in general, has been their autofocus! However, if you can look past that, the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX is probably the best in terms of value and features, given its price point. I would say that Panasonic cameras are more "video" oriented, while Nikon Z8/Z6III are more "photo" oriented hybrid cameras.
    That being said, for most things being shot and filmed within a 20-minute clip, I think the Nikon Z8 or Z6III is sufficient. However, if I were shooting 60-70% video and 30-40% photography, I would still feel more at ease using the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX or the Canon EOS R5 C for the peace of mind that comes with not overheating the camera. I know, I know-we all want that ONE camera that can do EVERYTHING! LMAO, I am one of them! The Z8, for me, is close enough to that bliss point! 🤣😊😎
    By the way, thank you for your honest assessment of the Nikon cameras' shortcomings. I truly appreciate these types of videos, and I am sure they are helpful to people in the long run. Your honest feedback may sway them to purchase the right camera for their needs, which could be a Panasonic, Canon, or another brand. 👍🏼🤙🏼👍🏼

    I think you can use a dummy battery with a V-mount as long as it's an official Nikon EP-5B. Nikon (I guess for $$$ reasons) implements more checks to reject third party batteries with every release. (For example, the Z8 rejected batteries that the Z6ii didn't, the Zf rejected batteries that the Z8 didn't, and now the Z6iii is rejecting batteries that the Zf didn't.)

    • @laidbaqq
      @laidbaqq 2 месяца назад

      This isn’t even making sense in practice. I have had my Z6 and Z6iii reject Nikon factory batteries, but worked fine with Neewer batteries. Only to turn around and literal moments later, do the opposite: reject Neewer batteries and only recognize Nikon.
      I have had this issue while at gigs, and it is so painful considering I have 10+ batteries I charge and test before the event, only to be forced to rely on 2 batteries the day of.

    • @RobertSilverPhotography
      @RobertSilverPhotography  2 месяца назад

      I honestly had it at default but let's be serious... I shouldn't have to worry about that. Since I never have issues with Lumix cameras. The point is that the tech is available and could have been added. Not when I used some sort of secret sauce and a combination of settings - that's ridiculous. Since Lumix was able to 6K and unlimited record time for $1,999. Nikon could've done it too. And they are a much BIGGER camera brand.

  • @csc-photo
    @csc-photo 2 месяца назад +5

    I always appreciate your perspective and absolutely respect your professional experience & needs. I think some of these points are fair and realistic but I also feel many are more so, round peg / square hole. Meaning, for the price point, you’re asking for a lot from a hybrid (vs a dedicated cine body or even a Z8/9). And some of these use cases are maybe a little outside of the Z6III’s wheelhouse.
    Now don’t get me wrong - hell ya, all of these would be welcome improvements. Ok wait I can’t go with you on the fan 🙅🏻‍♂️😆 but the others all good 🙂

    • @RobertSilverPhotography
      @RobertSilverPhotography  2 месяца назад

      Ill change your mind once you have to record for over a 60, continuously. SAimply, no accuse wold be acceptable to a client. If Lumix S5II ($1,999) can do it right out of the box. The Z6iii could have too. If you don't mind not having it means two things, you don't shoot a video for extended periods or you shoot my photos with it. If so, then this issue doesn't apply. Either way, folks should know about it before they buy a camera for $2.5K.

  • @Mikefarwell-67
    @Mikefarwell-67 2 месяца назад +2

    Robert you really have your answer "but the Z8 can do it"....you bought a less expensive camera expecting something that it wasnt designed for, buy the Z8 and you will solve your issues..

    • @RobertSilverPhotography
      @RobertSilverPhotography  2 месяца назад +2

      That logic doesn't make sense when a less expensive camera (Lumix S5II at $1,999) doesn't have any of these issues. So, it's not about the cost and the tech does exist, and is available for cameras at lower price points.
      Especially when most of the issues can be resolved via firmware (software issue). You shouldn't have to spend $4K (on the Z8) to solve them, lol.

  • @waynerm002
    @waynerm002 2 месяца назад +1

    Hi Robert, the image you showed of the V-Mount battery with the message on the screen, that message is normally if you use an internal battery or dummy battery that isn't compatible with the camera. That's not an issue with the camera not supporting a V-Mount battery. I know Randall Brander made videos about finding the correct one to use in the Z6 III. The other option you could go with is have a partially charged battery in the camera and power via the USB power delivery port. I power my Z8 via the USB C power delivery port, I prefer to go that route as it works fine.
    On the shutter angle discussion, keep in mind Panasonic has video camera and imported those features to their hybrid camera which is great for them, Nikon is coming from a photo camera platform. The competition, Canon and Sony doesn't have shutter angle on their hybrid cameras either, using shutter speeds is easier for photographers moving to video to adopt, than learning a new system. Panasonic doesn't get a lot of props for all the features they implement in their hybrids, the other guys are catering to their user base. Maybe one day in the future Nikon will add it but, I think cinema people will use the tools that offer them the features they need.

    • @RobertSilverPhotography
      @RobertSilverPhotography  2 месяца назад +2

      Hi Wayne, The v-mount issue is still an issue if I have to lock for a very specific dummy battery - that still a problem in itself. There is a reason why there was no V-Mount batteries promoted in any of the promo videos that showcase the Z6III as a video camera. Using a UCB-C to keep my camera charged is not a professional solution - its an exception, not a rule. It's not more reliable than a solid v-mount battery. Plus, a v-mount battery will power all of the devices on my rig as well as the camera.
      Nikon knew better about some of these issues they could've avoided, such as shutter angle. Plenty of people mentioned it and they were in the middle of buying RED as this camera is preparing to be released. So they knew this tech and features existed. But was promoted heavily to photo/video creators; a great option for video creators.
      Yes, Panasonic seriously doesn't get it props for sure. Im not trying to diss the Z6iii but to acknowledge certain points that are a hurdle.
      Thanks Wayne! I love to her your perspective and insight! :)

      @@RobertSilverPhotography I hear you but, remember, the USB C PD option is what Nikon went for and they also provided a cable management clip or if you use a cage, there are options to secure the cables. On the V-Mount battery side, a right angle PD cable (left or right) will make the profile lower to avoid any accidental disconnects of course securing the cable in multiple areas helps too. It may not be the perfect option however, it will solve the issue in the short term. Nikon does have a dummy battery but you would need to find a cable that connects to the adapter and the battery. Maybe if folks bug Nikon enough they will create a dummy battery that will connect to V-Mount battery.

    1. The z6III has blackout free shooting but only when shooting high speeds, but they could just save less of those frames and let you have no blackout at low fps but they claim they can't because the z6III doesn't have the dual stream tech of the z8. I don't want to shoot at 20 fps, it's way too many pics too look through later. If it has blackout free shooting at high speeds, how can it not at low speeds?
    2. The precapture is jpeg only, but I think they can do it in RAW even if it's much lower fps.
    3. The camera decides you shouldn't be able to choose which kind of shutter type you want depending on the lens you are using. It gives you the option of auto, electronic first curtain, and electronic, but mechanical is disabled for certain lenses. Why?
    4. It doesn't record video to both card slots.
    5. When you use a gray card to set white balance, the camera doesn't tell you what kelvin and tint values it is set to, I don't see why not.
    6. I don't have a z6III but I've read parts of the manual and I'm pretty sure active d lighting is not shown in live view unless you use the depth of field preview button, so you have to take pictures to see what it looks like, or switch to video mode.
    7. In general there are software features in the z8/z9 that could be in the z6III but are missing for seemingly no reason other than to irk you into buying the more expensive cameras, but some of the missing things are too small to really make you buy the other cameras so it's really just odd to omit them.
    I don't expect them to ever do this but if you could shoot a colorchecker to correct colors in camera, it would be a game changer

      Re: #1 It doesn’t actually / technically have blackout free at high fps, it’s so fast that it gives that illusion to your eye. Not the same tech that’s in the Z8/9, which are truly blackout-free.
      #4 Yes Nikon needs to figure this out, surprised the Z6III didn’t introduce it to their line
      #7 I disagree, no company is going to give away (all) their flagship features in mid-range prosumer bodies. They’d be out of business. I think if you add up what Nikon gave us in the Z8, Zf, and Z6III - that’s a pretty damn generous set of features across those 3 bodies.

      @@bananaman-zd4lq IMO, yes (recall shooting functions). That feature has always only been in pro bodies.
      The blackout free effect can’t happen at lower fps without the Z8/9’s dual-stream EVF (not sure about that name). Maybe it’s just the nature of semi-stacked vs fully stacked sensors?

As to Open Gate, not even the Z9 has that, and it shoots 8k. Sorry, I turned into a RUclipsr then. I would love to see Nikon adopt Open Gate, I most certainly would use it. I think they will soon. I also use CFExpress Type-B in the Z6iii and the heat warming popped up for documentary-style testimonials I was recording recently. I had to catch 6 interviews in a row (10-bit, H.265) 4K/30fps. I don't believe it was "my cards" fault.

To your point, it is a great camera. I bought it for a reason but it still has issues that not everyone may not know or understand.
      Thanks for checking out my video :)

      So, I need a Cf Express Type B card from the planet Kryptonite now, lol. I was using that kind of card and the heat-warming sign still popped up. The Lumix S5II doesn't have unlimited record time at 4K/30 with an SD card with 95/mbs. yesterday I recorded for 4 hours straight with it. So, I'm sorry that's not it.

      The point of my video is not to compare to the Lumix or poo-poo on the Z6III but rather just to share a few issues I've had with the camera that some video content creators may want to know about if they are considering the camera. I love mine but it's not my A-Cam for large paid client projects. It'll live a great b-cam or on top of my Ronin RS3 Pro gimbal.

    Most of the things you listed aren’t “issues” as much as feature requests…and many of them would def improve Nikons hybrid cameras, but some of this just feels like you are using the wrong camera for your use case.

    • @RobertSilverPhotography
      @RobertSilverPhotography  2 месяца назад

      The type of the camera is not the point of the video. It's about the honest critiques that Nikon could have added and did not and what it means to any Nikon user or potential buyer who may be missing out. As well as, how not including these features would affect the when it comes to producing video. It's just that simple. You're reading way too much into it. If I were thinking about buying this camera, since it's advertised as the best photo/video hybrid that Nikon offers at the price, then I would logically want to know the honest pros/cons of this camera. Before I spend my hard-earned money. You sound like you don't like the fact that I'm pointing out the obvious flaws. As if it's personally insulting to you if I do so. But i thank you for your comment and watching the video.

      @@RobertSilverPhotography nah not insulted at all. As I mentioned, I think a lot of what you are suggesting would improve Nikon's hybrid options and it would be positive things to add to their line...I was just saying the somewhat click bait title of the video tends to suggest actual use case issues with the camera that make it unusable, when in reality this video is more of a list of features you wish were implemented across all of Nikon's cameras, so the camera would better suit your needs...which is totally fine of course...just was pointing that out...and of course many of the things, like adding a fan, or dual card recording of nraw....not really something that they can add to an already released camera...so not really sure how they "fix" that issue outside of implementing the feature in the next model

    And also the fact that there is no exposure meter in video mode. ( number specific meter like in photo mode and any other brand does).
    Histogram and waveform doesn't inform about how much over/under exposed you are.

    I don’t know if there’s an issue with my set up but I can’t seem to get past 22 seconds of recording onto either a V90 SD or 900 MB/sec write speed CFExpress when doing 4K60 or higher. 4K30, every format, no problem, but faster frames or higher resolution? I can’t get anything done.
    I was hoping to record some 4K60 clips for a wedding I’m shooting, soon.

      Some times it could be the sustain writes speeds of the memory card, but the first question would have to be what format are you writing in? ( N-Raw, Prores Raw, Props 422HQ, etc)
