    After going nuts when struggling with my local team and not really understanding how to make things work in a tactic and how they do, this video is really a life saver in terms of FM. I didn't think a website like that existed, but now that I do, I can't wait to try and create my own tactic again (considering I just downloaded an OP tactic from FM scout to fix my issues instead of really breaking it down myself)! Thank you for this video, quite easy to understand and follow through. Earned yourself a follow! ❤

      @@coachroan I went with a 4-2-3-1 Gegenpress with the focus on retaining possesion. It was nuts! I am the best team in the league, but up until December it had ran its course. 5 goals conceded in 2 games had me tinkering, and really realizing that the point from your "op tactics" video about having a defensive midfielder is a true point. So I switched it to a 4-3-3 DM wide, which I truly believe is the one that works best with the match engine :)

    Some confusion I want to clear up about my point on Confliciting Tactical Instructions: In the example that I use, the Underlap Left instruction DOES NOT tell the wingback (or any other player) to make a underlapping run. It tells your team to hold up the ball and look for an underlap if any player is making it. So if for example you use a central midfielder that could make an underlapping run, you can still use this instruction with a wing back in your team.
    The point I was trying to make is that you want to focus on what your team instructions will do for your team, and that you are very aware of which players could take advantage of that team instruction. I apologize if this point was not made fully clear in the video. I will try to prevent confusions like this in future videos

      You're absolutely welcome! A little extra tip for tactics with non-league sides: Try and keep your tactics as simple as possible, both in player roles as team instructions. At that level, your players won't have the ability to execute a complicated tactical strategy, so the simpler the better!

    How many tactics should I have? A really intensive scoring tactic that scores in the first half, then a very defensive tactic?
    Or should I merge the two? Does mentality affect the defense and offense much?

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад +1

      So there's no golden rule for how many tactics you should have. Some people have 3 completely different tactics, I personally usually go for 3 variations of the same tactic (one the regular tactic, one more attacking, one more defensive). But it's really personal preference. I would advise you go for the full 3 tactics though, gives you more options. When you do though, please make sure to train all 3 tactics, as the game by default only focusses training on one of them. You can set this in your Training tab
      Mentality definitely changes things up, as it changes the mind set for all your players. I recommend going Cautios or above, as more defensive mentalities aren't as effective.
      Hopefully this helped you out!

    I'm commenting this as I'm watching the video because I don't want to forget what I want to say when I get to the end. I think you misunderstood the underlap instruction, the instruction tells the wide player to wait for runs inside, it doesn't tell the wide players to run inside so you can absolutely have a winger or wingback and use the underlap instruction, you just need to have one of the central midfielders running into the box

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад +2

      You're completely right about the underlap instruction, and user @shxver mentioned it in a similar comment. The point I was trying to make was that an instruction like that could be pretty ineffective if you don't have player roles that could take advantage of the team instruction. So if you use a central midfielder that could drive into that space it could potentially work. I apologize if I did not explain that point clearly enough.
      I'll add this explanation to the pinned comment, so any further confusion about this point is hopefully prevented.

    Great video. Just have one question I was working with the tactic creator and for some reason it claims it's not a good idea to tell players to overlap while playing possession football, when the opposite is true. You want to avoid overlaps when counterattacking. So I have no idea if my new tactic is going to work but at least if it doesn't I know what I need to change

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад

      Glad you enjoyed the video!
      The first thing I would say is that it's important to realise that the overlap instruction are not telling your team to make overlaps, but to hold up the ball and wait for an overlap.
      That said, I wouldn't say that there's a problem with those instructions by themselves in a possesion based tactic. Maybe it clashes with a different instruction that you have on? If you want, you can send me a screenshot on Twitter or by mail, so I can have a look at your tactic.

    Great vid, helped loads! On the "rate my tactic" I put in that I want counter pressing but not matter what I do it always says "you want to counter press despite higher level of attacking risk". I've read the article that is linked but I cannot make sense of it 😂 what does it mean?

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад

      That message is a tricky one to understand, took me a while to get it as well.
      As I read it, it means that you're playing with a high-risk attack, meaning that you're often looking to make a dangerous defence-splitting move before your team is fully transitioned into attack. What this means is that there is a risk that often times you've already lost the ball before your entire team can move up to join the attack, and in that case they aren't in place to immediately counter press.
      I personally don't think that this is as much of a problem as the website makes it out to be, as I think FM values that counter-pressing style too much to not take that risk on. But it is something to take into account when building your tactic!

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад +1

      @@d1g1tal83 there's a couple of warnings it might give you about transitions. The most common one is trying to indicate that you have a rather risky approach to football (high tempo, more expressive e.g.) while also having a lot of attacking roles. This could make your team vulnerable to counter attacks, as your risky playstyle increases the chances of losing the ball, while you'll have a lot of players going forward and not enough players looking to focus on support/rest defence. You can look to either play less risky, put some more players on less attacking roles or accept the risk of getting countered.

    I often tweak player roles to make my tactic better as you explain it here, however how do you deal with “Familiarity” issue? As soon as I change one small thing familiarity of that player to that very role in the tactic drops like crazy. I know you have to set individual training to that role and yada yada, yet it still takes awful amount of time to get them familiar. Maybe it’s not a big deal as the game makes out of it, huh?

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад

      It's tricky. There's definitely some impact, but I feel it's more in the way of consistency. The main thing (and I think it's not even close to the other factors) are a player's attributes, and how well they suit the role your playing him in.

    FM24 and it bros before, is not scripted... I tried to save before match and quit if losing and try again untill win.. and it still can.. (maybe the AI tired to script because of my patient).. 😅😅
    Might be true, if there are script AI but I think, it re-balance because your team beyond expectation, then suddenly all go wrong.. hard to win but still possible to draw... but in the next season it will go smooth again until the process do it again..
    Then I try to let it flow, untill I realize 13seasons is done...
    The conclusion is, just let it flow and your striker struggling, mainly because modern tactic.. That's true, because FM is reality football game.. so, back to old fashion mode then your striker is Godlike anymore.. Its not because scripted AI, but you need to know more about who supply him.. Based on my experience..

    • @coachroan
      @coachroan  Год назад

      Great question!
      The first thing I would say is that it is really dependent on your specific team, and the rest of the roles that you are using in your tactic. What are your midfielders good at, and how would the rest of your team be best helped by your midfielders?
      As a general advice, I personally love a combination of a DLP on defend with a CM on support. They provide a solid base for your attacking players, as well as giving some great options for distributing the ball.
      But there are many options that could work! (BWM or B2B are also great roles) What I would advice is to fill in the rest
      of your tactic in the Rate My Tactic site, and play around with the 2 center midfielder roles, so you can get some direct feedback on what combination of roles would work best with your tactic (while keeping in mind what your players are good at)
