Must be my age or something, but the new tech just doesn't do much for me. Slightly better tech that does the same thing, but with more caveats, more services and online requirements. Feels like it plateaued and they're just scrambling to find stupid ways to get you stuck in their subscriptions.
Look into self hosting or homelab stuff if you like tech and tinkering.
I think we’re definitely reaching the top of the s curve in tradition computer capabilities. AI and machine learning definitely is a cool paradigm shift but sadly it’s accompanied by corporate greed and ineptitude. Maybe someone will figure out how to mass produce graphene tomorrow and we can have another tech revolution.
Its just at a point where normal consumers dont benefit from "more Powaaaa" (in Arnold Voice). And real innovations are not really happening (Multi-Display-Laptops and funny stuff like it are awesome, but only a few really need it). It becomes more and more like cars, but without it breaking every few months. As long as it drives and is in decent condition, you really dont need a new one
Switch and Steam deck devices that don’t run hot and have decent battery life are one of the interesting development angles imo. Still got a way to go.

A lot are arrogant and unaware of company issues. They tend to be the last to find out about anything. CEOs also tend to be a small circle thing, so even if they fail and are ousted, they can jump to another company easily as they have rare "experience" in running a company.

and the rest of the meeting just agree in creative way how radical idea this is and how great of a thinker the manager is.
Sometimes those meetings feel like you are the only real person in that company.
I saw some recent research that found creating a "hospital" made up of multiple copies of gpt all playing different roles got the diagnosis rate for (virtual) patients up from 80% for just asking one copy of gpt directly to 93% after running through the system of multiple agents. All the same gpt just different personalities working together.

They probably want to "upgrade" windows 10 so it has amazing features like forced Microsoft account connections, ads baked into the OS, and automatically deciding which applications open as default. That way all these amazingly useful features can help bridge the gateway for people stuck on Windows 10 and get them to want to move to Windows 11.
If that update has Ai crap I will go back to Linux mint (or maybe KDE neon)

That is one of the very few things that will force me to swallow the cost and switch to Linux.
Windows 11 local accounts can still be made by going Shift + F10 on the setup screen to open CMD. Then type "OOBE" then type "Bypass NRO". PC will restart now with the option to make a local account (only when disconnected from internet)

Just install Linux at that point.

The new Win10 features will just be a more prominent "your PC has no TPM and is planned obsolete, purchase a partner PC NOW to be coerced into an MS account" nagware.
Bewildering what their end goal is here with attempting enforced MS accounts, it's only even a minority of Power Users using Local Account workarounds, and they're needlessly
aggravating them with hoop jumping for zero (hell, negative!) gain.
Best guess, a thinly vailed plan to have their ducks in a row for an upcoming Windows Subscription only model. Having every active Windows user on an MS Acct would make
pulling an Adobe CC an absolute cinch. But from what I've seen, that has just made Adobe piracy is easier and more rampant than ever.

Hospitals seriously need to air-gap computers containing patient data. They're just inviting lawsuits by not doing so.
The databases are online, because someone showing up into the ER can't wait for the GP to fax over their medical information. You're kinda right though, they should get as close as possible to air-gapping them. An ultra-strict firewall allowing only connection to the relevant health database, the removal of all USB ports and the use of a PS/2 port for the keyboard and mouse.
It's not just that, most hospitals (at least in the UK) widely still run on windows 98, xp etc

Just to clarify, Pat was not the one who made the decision to use TSMC for Lunar Lake. Those decisions were made by Bob Swan, which at the time created a lot of controversy. In hindsight, he probably saved the company by making that decision.

Then 1 year later (Feb, 17, 2022), Intel released its technology roadmap and it documents the plan to use external process nodes for Lunar Lake. Yes, Pat was CEO by then but Bob set it all in motion prior.
Local accounts are necessary to own your PC. Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't want you to own your PC anymore.

@@FinalizorI'm using pop os for my workstation. It runs almost all games now on steam's proton runtime. If you want to play online multiplayer games most anti-cheats will give you a headache though. That being said I'm playing helldivers 2 almost exclusively on my linux pc now (it's hilarious but it's also been more stable for me on linux ever since release)

Meta's TOS, "Privacy Policy", "additional privacy policy for VR" and a myriad of other legal documents make it very difficult to opt out of their AI collecting your data. There's a few links to click and pages to follow after which they send you an email in which they ask which policy are you opting out of and how does it affect you.
And even after all that there's a disclaimer saying "oh, you don't use or plan to use our AI? Well too bad, coz that's not reason enough to opt out because it's our *Legitimate Interest*!" It seems to me they are hiding behind a "muh legitimate interest" shield.

there's never been a meeting i've attended that i didn't leave thinking "this could've been an email". especially because my boss is chatty and likes to just repeat the same point several times. the meetings would've been fine for a 5 minute talk and would end up lasting 2 hours
