- To start out the Digimon Seasonal Reviews, I figured it would be wise to discuss the last installment of the original six seasons. Which just so happens to be a season that nearly killed any and all interest of the franchise in America. Unlike the other videos in the retrospective, this video will be more of a deep dive to how a channel mishandles a series and all of the cruel twists that comes with it.

I am so glad the manga exists. While I do not hate the anime, I hate the way the villains from the first half are treated in the second half, Bagramon included. The manga fixes this by making Tactimon stick around to the end, Blastmon be an absolute treat for what little he appears, and balancing Lilithmon to be both intimidating but also cute and silly. As for Bagramon... yeah the Manga version is the GOAT Digimon villain.

We are Xros Heart (X7) is my favorite Digimon Insert song of all time.
As a Xros Wars fan, I can agree that Fusion's voice cast was the only saving grace while everything else is mediocre. The script is riddled with inconsistencies and jokes that really lowers the serious tone that the original JP dub has. For instance, in ep 11, Taiki convinces Akari that she's still a valuable part of Team Xros Heart, yet in the dub, dubTaiki says dubAkari is good at making sandwiches. The latter makes it really unbearable when Akari was at her lowest and wants to go home and to say that would create an opposite intent ( aka truly making Akari leave.) Also, thanks for noticing the whole "You're not Japanese" line. It sounds out of place considering they're Japanese, but also it sounds like a slap in the face to the localization of past seasons as they at least acknowledge they are from Japan. Another thing that they change that I detest was the character backstories. Yuu's backstory with his pet goldfish passed away instead of his grandmother didn't have the same tone of grief. Taiki's in the dub was also underwhelming as the kid he saw was out for less than in the original which was a year, I believe. Kiriha's backstory in the dub felt underwhelming to why he wanted to get stronger as his parents passed away in the original dub alongside the whole Aonuma Financial Group being ruined by the workers who took everything from them, whereas the parents are are alive.
The localization of names in the dub were questionable. Beastmon? Axeknightmon? Slushangemon? Augumon? Lord Bagra? Why not Persiamon or Guardiangemon? Why change Darkknightmon? Why remove the mon in Bagramon if he's a digimon and not a digital entity? Why did the dub kept the omega symbols in Omegashoutmon's evolution sequence when he's called Omnishoutmon in theme with Omnimon/Omegamon? Why change Taiki's team name to Fusion Fighters if Xros Heart or Fusion Heart are better and fit well with Taiki's original reason and meaning? Why does Shoutmon X5 and Tactimon have the same attack and why do some attacks use multiple names? Aside from the former mess, the dub flip flops using both original and dub names like with Yukidarumon in ep 7/8 and the whole digimemory/digicard thing.
The music in Fusion sounds generic and sometimes feels out of place. The theme song sounds bland compared to the JP intro songs. Also, the fact this is the only season where the evo/battle songs in JP includes terminology is good and that the dub outright does not use these songs in the dub feel like a massive disrespect to Kouji Wada ( may he rest in peace) and the other singers.
I'm glad that Hunters wasn't dub because the way the dub handled the first two arcs was mediorce. Also the dub names for this seasons are no longer used in the current Digimon merch so no more Axeknightmon, Laylamon, or Reapmon and hello Lilithmon, Darkknightmon, and Baalmon. And to sum it up, everything about Xros Wars is WAY BETTER than Fusion by a mile.
honestly all the dubs have lines that are cringe worthy, but fusion was on one piece 4kids level cringe, and in the 2010's, thats saying something as anime was beoming much more main stream, and americanized kid edits were fading away

I watched it subbed, and when my bro wanted to watch dub I told him about how censored it was. He loved Xros wars subbed.
I have a theory about why Omnimon's crotch was shortened in the dub. When Omnimon saved Shoutmon off screen Shoutmon microphone was broken and we all know a Shoutmon without a microphone isnt much of a Shoutmon. Omnimon in his infinite mercy sacrificed his glorious crotch to craft our future digital lord and savior his legendary microphone. That's the real reason why X4 has a head looking like omnimon

Ngl we need an animated version of the manga it does everything the anime should have done

With discotek media doing the releases of Digimon in the states and even doing a redub of the Digimon movie I hope they maybe do a redub of Xros Wars to give that show the justice it deserves
Digimon games are great. It has its bad games like every franchise, Pokemon included. All-Star Rumble was created for international audiences to test the waters on whether there was still interest outside Japan after Nickelodeon botched Fusions. It was never intended for the Japanese audience. It had nothing to do with the quality. Because of that "test run" it's why we got Cyber Sleuth the following year.
And i think it worked out since we got more digimon games.
It's really weird how I really did not care for Fusion back when I first watched it, thought it was really boring then (somewhere around 2016 I think), but I'm actually enjoying Xros Wars. Something about the subs, and I'm sure the soundtrack contributes, that are just way more enjoyable. I talked to some people about how the dubs are more light hearted and less serious, and there is a certain charm in that don't get me wrong, it just feels out of place in an otherwise serious genre. The sub shows really draw me in and I don't feel the need to facepalm every 5 minutes when a character makes a bad pun.
Fusion was so bad dub wise we never got the third season dubbed. It was a blessing because the third season wasnt great.
It was though the first two were way too serious and bland the 3rd one was fun but still serious it just got cut wayyyy too Short

I liked Fusion personally! It was at the very least better than Data Squad. Still bitter we didn’t get Hunters.
I think not getting Hunters is a blessing. If it gets dub, Saban would have to deal with that one episode.
I am making a tv show and when I was younger I was thinking about airing it on nick, but seeing how much disrespect and poor treatment the shows get I decided to go indie instead.
And I just finished this season again with the sun, and I didn’t realize how much they changed it. I agree now. I like the subs on the other season, but once I get to that season again I’m watching it in the sub
Nickelodeon has a pretty bad track record with how they treat shows. Though I’m not surprised Digimon too was one of the many victims of studio tampering.
I keep stumbling along videos like these talking about every interesting things that me or others have watched.
Every time keep wondering how do such awesome videos isn't some what famous yet when they should be.
13:22 actually saban bought back all the properties Disney were sold with the purchase of Fox Family. Disney never owned Saban Brands they only owned Saban’s catalog. Nick never had anything to do production wise besides probably the close to 20 episodes per season limit all they did was air the show. All of this show’s problems and power rangers were because Saban Brands was out of the game too long
That makes sense. Which could explain why Saban sold Power Rangers off to Hasbro.
I actually really like the Digimon 2020 reboot. I'm not gonna invalidate anyone who has their reservations about it, especially fans of the original Adventure 01. However, I really enjoy it. I like the cast, I love the writing and the music is absolutely stellar. Be the Winner is an absolute bop.
I forgot they nerfed Lilithmon in certain areas in the dub
Shoutmon being Bagramon’s son actually makes sense honestly. Both are kinda similar.
Fun Fact: Kai was a rewrite by Toriyama that stuck more closely to the manga
I am well aware of that fact. Most DBZ Fans hate it because it removes all the pointless filler from the original version.
@@AJSmashingI'm an OG DBZ fan and I cannot stand watching the original dub anymore. Ever since I watched the sub when I was 10, it made me realise how much Funimation had botched it, not to mention the voice acting didn't hold up.
To their credit, howeve, they did keep the script more faithful to the sub in the videogames.
Digimon Fusion is what got me back into Digimon, specifically Shoutmon Digivolving
still one of my favorite scenes. Blue Flare is done well.
it's kinda funny how xros/Fusion has some of the strongest digivices
your given to fuse literally And and every Digimon to your hearts content. And they literally fuse every digimon with shoutmon (every one in 2013)

Did they really have to unnecessarily poke fun out of weebs for no reason with this "We don't know Japanese" joke?
This was even funny when 4Kids did that slangs in GX and FUNi did that South Park jokes in the Ghost Stories and Shin-Chan dub, but from 2010 to now it's absolutely pointless, and the worst it's people making this to this day in dubs from other countries. Freaking unprofessional to say the least.
Surprised even with the censoring, seasons before Fusion weren't as butchered as this, and they still managed to dub the rest of the Adventure franchise.
I've watched this season entirely in the original and I don't regret it, since I don't watch cable TV since 2015 when channels started to remove subbed TV shows and became a mess of pure reruns of old shows.
I do say the same for the Brazil dub, which was the first one to use the English version, unlike the others that were actually following the Japanese script, sometimes it weren't that accurate like in early Adventure, but it got better from seasons 3 to 5.
The only thing half decent thing in our Xros Wars dub was the cast, which it has both extremely well known VA's for the Digimons, and other that were pretty new at the time like Glória Groove/Daniel Garcia, which fitted Mikey pretty well.
Same with Glitter Force Doki Doki and the real divas that are Rio's female VA's.
At least I'll give those two dubs (Fusion and GFDD) some credit because it isn't dubbed in Miami, and our voice actors do pretty well the job for handling most of the English language content. (except for AMC and Sony shows, because there nothing beats the phenomenal acting of american actors and actresses)
Speaking about modern Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, in Brazil it's kind of the same situation, but they actually got Toonami back with Crunchyroll partnership, which for me it's meh, since I dislike modern anime dubs.
I would speak up on the censoring and changes they did on CN, but I don't really care since politics and education are more important to me than freaking anime.

As an English only speaker I am kind of jealous European countries and other countries outside of it handled anime with more respect. The German dub music for Digimon is absolutely stellar.
@@AJSmashing And also Italy, France, India and even Portugal for surpassing this piece of shit Fusion dub, and handling anime somewhat better now than US and today's Latin America.
And I'm glad I'm native from a Romance language, so I can appreciate stuff like the European Portuguese MHA dub, or a Spanish sub in case I can't find an English sub for example.
I also disagreed with Tentomon's takes on the different connected digivolutions aside spirit evolution. I mean, if you don't have matching digivices, but have the xross-fusion loader HOW DO WE DO JOGRESS besides Digifuse!? And besides on digimon masters, all connected digivolutions no matter fusion, digifuse or DNA, IT'S CALLED JOGRESS!
Or dna digivolution, hack, it's always been called jogress since the vpet days

That’s what I mentioned in the beginning.
I mean just look what they did with Power Rangers and Winx Club
Here in Brazil, we have always been lucky with Digimon anime because we always got the Japanese version, the only American thing being the characters' names (like Matt instead of Yamato, Marcus instead of Masaru, and Digimon names such as BurningGreymon and KendoGarurumon). Apart from a few mistakes in the Brazilian dubbing, the seasons of the franchise here have always been extremely faithful to the Japanese material.
Unfortunately, for some reason they changed that in Xros Wars and brought us Fusion instead, which was easily the worst anime season for me, at least before the 2020 Adventure reboot.
Honestly, I haven't watched Xros Wars yet, but I still want to one day to have the actual experience of watching this anime, rather than the horrible, censored and modified version that is Fusion.
I keep hearing this time and time again on how Digimon was treated better in South America but then getting the short end of the stick for fusion was also a shocker for me. Even they weren’t safe from the stench of Nickelodeon’s borderline damaging decisions.
@@AJSmashing Totally, we were very lucky up until Savers (which came as "Data Squad" for us, but besides that and the names being different, it IS Savers. An example is that we got BomberNanimon instead of Citramon lol), but unfortunately we didn't escape Fusion

I unfortunately watched Digimon Fusion in the UK. As you said, great schedule but such a bad show.
I was always surprised by the dub cast. Kids anime don't usually get such big names, as soon as I heard Vic I was shocked.
I wanted to see all the old digi-destined come back so badly. I'll always be annoyed that the dub didn't do this part. It genuinely would've made the whole crap anime worthwhile

Although not a complete mess like that one other digimon series, Xros Wars was really forgetable for me. I mean, if someone asked about this series, I could only tell them that the digimon fuses with one another and that Taiki (I think that's his name) wasn't an interesting protagonist and Sparrowmon looked like Lati@s (which is not really true when I looked at it now). Anyway, my second least favourite series of digimon for now. Might try to rewatch it to see if my opinion would change, and thanks for the reminder about the manga.

But you missed a censored digimon, Revolver/Deputymon, he's not a blue gun that shoots lasers.

You know what’s odd about digimon fusion/cross wars; it made it out here to Australia in 2014 you know the only other bit of digimon animated media that I can remember making it to Australian television in my lifetime? the digimon movie the mishmash of other digimon movies it’s ironic because America kind of acts like a filter for what ends up on our screens yet the one season that no one liked made it here what is that logic

@@lamedrawings the main point for the speedrun on the recap was because me reviewing the season was not the point of the video. I only put it in just to add context to the season and why I think Nick butchered the dub.

You shot yourself in the foot pretty bad when you noted how Nick aired Dragonball Z Kai and then showed that they aired Frieza being cut in half and Goku being pierced with the special beam cannon. Nickelodeon edited out Frieza's bisection and even the uncut Japanese version of Kai edited the cannon shot so that it didn't pierce through Goku and Raditz. Blood is not allowed on American kid's TV. Period. The creators of Batman The Animated Series specifically pointed out that one moment in the first episode was the only time they had any and then they couldn't have any ever again. The movies that aired on Nick were censored as well, such as cutting out the Hitler parts of Fusion Reborn. Your video seems ill-informed.
Yeah I do remember that they didn’t show Frieza get cut entirely, however the point of the matter still stood. Characters in Kai still died in Nicktoons and I do recall deceased characters having halos in the afterlife. Hell of a lot better than “another dimension” or HFIL.
@@AJSmashing I don't think they ever say "die" though. Lines were re-recorded and things like recovering the bodies were edited out. Otherworld acted as more of a place you go when you're "defeated" than explicitly an afterlife.
@@viewtifulboy I do remember King Kai said Goku “defeated” Frieza but his body was still sliced in half, that bit was not shown of course. But hey it’s better than any of the edits that CW4Kids did for the show.
I got into Digimon from the re runs of Adventure and Adventure 02 on Nicktoons at the same time I hated Digimon Fusion
So did I.
I hate this season it’s so boring mikey is a boring version of tai and Davis the digimon look like toys I get that’s they’re purpose to sell toys but that’s not the reason I bought action figures and digivices of adventure 02 as a kid I did so because the designs were cool I look at Mikey’s digimon and I see are toys even axeknightmon looks like a toy I’m gonna say that again one of the villains of the show looks like a toy his lance looks like it’s made of plastic gallantmon’s lance looks like it could rip me to pieces. And I really hate the final battle there’s no tension they just run through lord Bagra’s army like it’s nothing and then they just stab lord bagra and he’s dead the other enemies were at least tough to beat and they treat the situation seriously even malomyotismon he can kill you with your fear and there’s no epilogue or looking back on their journey and everything they’ve been through there’s not even a teary eyed goodbye they’re freaking smiling as they say goodbye those are your friends why is there no emotional goodbye between them I felt nothing during fusions finale because they treat it as every other battle in the series if they don’t care why should I but yeah not a big fan of digimon fusion (sorry if I forgot to punctuate)
It isn’t that bad. I thought that the music was great. The deaths actually made me cry. And the fusion fighters + the fusions looked great! Shoutmon DX is my favourite digimon.

I hate this season and think Tai and Shoutmon are complete idiots, this season also throws preexisting power scaleing right out the window in order to shove these idiotic fusions (which are just discount store jogress) right down peoples throats; the music in this also the worst I've ever seen in a digimon series by far.
