IMO the A45S Plus is worth every penny over the A35 (i would say that lol) , as underneath they are worlds apart. The A45S Plus has a completely new engine, gearbox and drivetrain, where the A35 is made from the last generation parts bin, harsh but true. Just one example of this is the 7 speed gearbox in the A35, which is not very good, where the A45S gets an all new 8 speed box that is proper snappy. I would go on about all the other differences with things like the engine and how it is well over engineered, but i'd be here all day explaining it all lol But don't just take my word for it, check out Autotraders RUclips comparison between the two cars, and also another RUclipsr called TR Hamza who tested out and A35 and A45S. Both said the same thing, the A45S is in another league. As they say, you get what you pay for!
I have an A35 in Australia. As standard it came with the knobs on the steering wheel to adjust the drive mode and AMG dynamics. The car is fantastic to drive; the only I thing is, I would have loved the panamericana grill on the front.

Apparently all AMGs will get the panamerica grille across all ranges, but they've only been doing this since 2021. The GLB 35 was released in 2021, the A35 and CLA 35 was released in 2020. Seems I was wrong.
Thanks Nick I made the decision last year to downsize from a now overpriced C63s. The A35 is great, but chose the A45 and have enjoyed every cent of the extra cost
I was faced with making this exact difficult choice just over a year ago. In the end I went for the A35 in dark grey with (I think it's called) the midnight pack (black trim and windows). But specifically as it comes as a saloon and I think it looks even better than the hatchback. It's a real wolf in sheep's clothing and surprises a few people.... Playing a lot of golf and needing to carry equipment/luggage the additional space sealed the deal. And i'm not disappointed! It's an amazing car (the best I've owned), the performance is plenty for the UK and how the engineering achieves the fuel economy (as well as the performance) is astounding. I really enjoyed your videos, they've helped me to get to understand and get the most out of MBUX. Keep up the good work

I bought my new A45S registration ** 70 AMG from Swindon Mercedes last March, (Unfortunately Poole didn't have one even though I live not far away near Dorchester). There were only 2 other new models in the whole country. Now new ones are like hens teeth. Mercedes recently told me they have temporarily stopped production because of the chip shortages and are no longer taking orders as they cannot guaranteed a delivery date. It seems to have put up the residual value of mine to almost a whisker of what I paid for it with only 5000miles on the clock. I tried both but there was no contest. The A45S is an absolute overtaking missile. It just launches towards the horizon and never runs out of puff. A quick glance at the speedo after flooring it from 35mph to pass 3 cars in a slow moving queue of traffic (on a clear road) and you have reached 3 figures in no time before you realise you must ease back to avoid getting yourself in trouble. It claims to have 420bhp and I don't doubt it. I consider myself lucky as I run a VW Golf R32 Mk 5 from new in 2008 which I use as my daily driver. Its quick but not a patch on the A45S. Its like a pair of familiar carpet slippers and I'll never get rid of it as no-one would ever give me what its worth to me. But back to the A45S. Its a terrific car and incredibly engineered. AMG have done their work.. Thanks for all you tips and tricks Nick, absolutely invaluable. I am still learning new things about the Merc all the time.

Have had an A45 S for just over a year now (after a45 amg) Really pleased and like chalk and cheese from the last model. Had to wait from March until October for delivery due to covid. Everything is top notch and don’t be fooled by the high price quoted and use say carwow to negotiate a decent deal. Just wish it came with stuff that comes in other markets like HUD which isn’t available here. Highly recommended.

I chose the A45 S+ Plus, Patagonia Red, Black Leather. It is a monster. Was/is it worth the extra? YES, I love my car, it is capable on the high street and a beast on B and A roads.
Hi Nick, great video I agree with you re the additional cost of the 45S over the 35. Its just such a lot for the few additional bits. Unless money is no object of course! I have a CLA35 Shooting Brake and it's a brilliant car with enough power for almost every situation and it looks,s gorgeous in the white metallic paint. There are a few about with retrofitted Panamerica grills and 4 port exhausts which look good too!
Yeah the grill can be replaced so easily, I can't imagine owning a car in the 80s when you basically were stuck with OEM or maybe in magazines you'd see an ad from a third-party.
If I had to choose out the hot hatches I’d go with the 45s but I own a CLA 45s coupe and looks wise it can’t be beat IMO right there with the GT 4 door.
Hi Nick A Happy New Year to you. As you know, I bought an A35 Premium last year. I am very pleased with the car and don't think the opportunities to use the extra power of the A45S would come along very often on UK roads in a car used as a daily drive. However, I do regret the way MB package their cars. I would have very much liked the adaptive suspension as the ride is very firm, but my wife's absolute refusal to live with the larger spoiler on the Premium Plus ruled that out. Living in Farnham, which is the pot hole Capital of the world, I would also have preferred the 18" wheels, but again not an option unless I was willing to lose the larger screens and upgraded audio. I think MB could learn a lot from VW in this area as the long line of GTIs I had previously owned could very much be individually specified. .

You are incorrect about the A45s being the most powerful 2 litre car in the world..!! That belongs to... Koenigsegg calls the engine the Tiny Friendly Giant, or TFG for short, and it's an apt name. The TFG is a 2.0-liter twin-turbo three-cylinder that makes 600 horsepower.

I have a special order request with my dealer for a CLA35 (dealer has no current CLA 35 allotment) but my dealer has an allotment in two months for a CLA 45 that I can spec anyway I want. Price wise the CLA 45 the way I'm building it out is 8K more. I can talk myself into that. Decisons, decisions…
For the money, go all the way if you're already spending so much money. But also the CLA45 (or even CLA45s if available in country) for a whole lot more car and overall refined elegance.
I've had a a35 premium plus for just over 2 years now. I luckily picked it up as an ex demo (800 miles) for 36k. It's been an amazing car! I'd love to have the A45, I had one blaze past me the other day...but not in my price bracket. For the money the A35 is awesome car and held its value... just traded in for a GLB35... kids!

On my A45 Plus S+ 'Individual' spec I've copied every setting from the 'Sport+ spec with the exception of the suspension, which I've left in the 'Comfort' spec, so I've got all the noise and Rev Blipping fun with a comfortable ride. If I ever need a firmer suspension setting, then 'Sport+' it is.

There is a big difference between an MB engine tuned by AMG and an engine built from the ground up by AMG. It would be a shame if you could not tell them apart aesthetically. I am sure the A35 and C43 buyers would certainly be happy about that though.
My choice is the A35 from the cost perspective and the fact the maximum speed limit is 100kmph in Perth Australia. I also prefer a sedan (I have a A180 sedan) and I know the A35 comes in that body type.
The A45s looks superior and the performance is different level so is worth the extra. However for me, the CLA35 looks much classier than the CLA45s in my opinion. In CLA class therefore, it’s much harder to justify the price difference for me.
I have the 2021 A35 AMG premium plus and it’s such a great looking car and it sticks to the road. I have to admit I can’t really feel the 306bhp and it makes a dreadful wind noise passed 60mph
I have an A35 and went for the Executive package (yes I know) and I’m now in a position to change it but looking at a used C63 or the A45s. I’m not sure how much headache I could be in for if I go with the C63, it’s more of a hearth more than head idea. Head says A45s 😅
What’s wrong with the Executive Package? 😊 I was going to go for that on mine but decided to go Premium in the end because of a couple of extras that I fancied. Executive has loads of stuff on these days! Me I’d go A 45 S but….the current C 63’s will be the last of the V8s…so…. It’s also rear wheel drive so can be interesting in the wet!
I chose the A35 P+ saloon in mountain grey. Looks like the bee's .... No regrets. Couldn't justify the huge price difference between the A35 and A45. Great machines.
It’ll warm up certain aspects of the battery, electric motors etc to ensure the fastest charging speed can be achieved when plugging in but not the engine directly. This will just heat up like normal when it’s in use 🤓

Driving Assistance Package is rare on all Mercedes in the UK to be honest! It’s mainly because of the road infrastructure aren’t as vast as some roads in Europe so isn’t something that is readily available and usually only found on factory orders / made to order cars.
Another problem with my GLC .All the buttons around the console and the console as well stop working. It's the new MBUX system. Anyone with same problem???
Double check with your local Mercedes as it depends on the specification of the car 🤓 Most of the time, if it says Premium Plus as package in the UK, they might be on there but best to contact them to be sure

the A35 starts from 60k here in Greece and the a45s from 76k!! The prices here are just ridiculous, something needs to happen
In the Netherlands it’s 70k and 85k….
Once you drive both you realise why the 45 is £17k more. Apart from looks the cars are miles apart, the performance difference is phenomenal
I love my A35. 2021, Mountain Grey, AMG night package, black rims. saloon. (sedan since Im in the states)

I wouldn’t say it’s necessary but the features on there do help massively if you travel a lot on the motorway or lots of dual carriageways 🤓

Another problem with my GLC .All the buttons around the console and the console as well stop working. It's the new MBUX system. Anyone with same problem???

I don’t think so, that would be cool though but normally the AMG Specific Grille is just for the most powerful versions

From these 2 I'd definitely choose an A45s but if I can afford A45s I rather add up then go for CLA45s

@@handydkman My A45 S+ is Patagonia Red and looks fantastic, I often get comments at petrol stations & car parks, once a 'white van man' stopped whilst driving towards me, wound down his window, and shouted "Nice car, Great colour".
