he's running stepped headers and the 8-1 collector. Sound is magical. Stepped headers are the reason it has the howl, they multiply the number of exhaust pulses by factor of 3-4, so you get a much higher frequency sound, especially when the resonance points are hit. Absolutely marvelous.

What car guys call an “exhaust pipe” is actually a wind instrument, whose length and shape determine the pitch and tone it can produce.
How much air is blown into it and at what speed changes the volume but it’s
The shape of the pipe that creates the noise.

Sounds also like it was over balanced for racing. For the guys who may not know what that means, they balanced the crank with heavier connecting rods, and heavier pistons than they were going to actually use in racing. They did that to allow the engine to rev longer, so the rpms wouldn't drop off as quick, thereby putting it out of the power band. I'm not sure if it also allows the engine to rev higher, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. It also gets to the higher rpms faster because of less rotating mass.

Hey Mark, I think I need to jump in here. The GT40s from the 60’s used a 180 degree exhaust, but they were not 8 into 1s. These are two completely different exhaust systems that are often confused. I say this because it is my “plan” to build a 180 for my new Comet project. There are two merge collectors on the 180 set ups, where the 8 into 1 has only a single collector. What helps the 180 is that the two middle cylinders from each bank cross over to the opposite side of a typical V8. I hope this helps? Cheers!

And everyone says the LS is the best sounding V8 lol. This sounds like an Indy car, or an Italian v10!! It’s amazing, and I will be doing this with my 351C build

You can use 8-1 collectors on an LS as well and achieve a similar tone. Physics don’t care about brand loyalty.

A gt350r that sounds more like a flat plane v8 than the actual gt350 with the flat plane v8. I fantasize about a 351 Cleveland 8->1 setup. As far as sound, that'd be a match made in heaven.

Wow. You sound like the - De Tomaso Mangusta Great V8 Sound On Hillclimb - vid. I can't post link. It was debated if it had 180 degree headers or most likely 8 into 1 from what 1 post said it had a single outlet. Also it was debated if it had a 289 or 351 Cleveland ect....You both sound Awesome!
