- First off I did check the oil. Thanks to ZIPTIESANDBIASPLIES for the idea of using WD-40 for starting the diesel truck. This is the first time I have ever driven a stick my only experience is RUclips and showing me have it works and believe it or not it's easier then you think to drive. Info on this truck- the engine is not original it is a replacement my Grampa got it around 94k miles and now has 157k he has also replaced the clutch. The reason it has sat for so long it that a part of the fuel system leaks and takes a long time to start and also the glow plugs are going bad and the clutch that is in it right now jerks alot... if I find anything else I'll add it. Hey here is the update on our 89 350 as of November 2020. ruclips.net/video/35AVhNg9mo8/видео.html
Also help me fix this truck donate here www.paypal.me/TFD1982
Had one with over 700k miles on it and sold it for twice what I paid for it. Drove it for 200k and it never even got its air filter changed. Oil changes at 5k and water pumps at 100k. Great truck.
TheGoose428 that’s awesome you don’t hear too much about these truck hitting 1mil it’s always about those Toyota’s it seems
Took a little bit because it had to combust some squirrels out first.
SHES A BEAUTY NEVER LET YOU DOWN 7.3L
Idi engines are so loyal
You cant kill these old idi motors got one myself love my old f250 shes a beast
JD's garage &more Absolutely one of the best motors ford ever built not the most powerful but Reliability is what counts on this motor
Yes I know that
On these only 7.3 non PS the #7cylinder is almost always cavitated
Jacob Chambers is there a way to tell when it is?
0:19 damn this trucks got some funky beats.
President Mermaidman ha didn’t see that😂 sure does
I prefer the older International
7.3 liter V-8 over a
Powerstroke ©®™ 7.3 liter,
Even without a turbo, those old
International engines really perform !
Carmine Murphy they sure do!
@@TFD1982
A friend is running a 1990 ? FORD F-250, and it seems to run way better than anything newer with much less mileage.
Seems as if you could clock over a Million Miles, before needing major Engine work.
Carmine Murphy ow for sure
I would so daily drive that beast of a truck!
Fer Delance I would too if it went for not having the money to fix it right now
Nice
I got a idi 7.3 non turbo thing has a million miles and still runs
Josh Cartwright nice!
I have 126k on mine rn. Looking forward to a long partnership with the old girl.
My 89 f250 tow truck is a retired triple a truck. It has 881k miles on it, smokes like a dog when cold but still gets the job done without hesitation. The 5 speed is a bit notchy from all the abuse but never misses a shift
Some of the tuffest stuff made
That thumping noise is due to weak lifters, they are hydralic, and when they get older they don't pump up very well, which slows down the valves from opening and closing as good, had a 92 7.3 that did this when it got over 400,000 miles on it, but other than that ran great. Those are great engines, much better than those made today
rustys dirtworks yeah this engine came from an ambulance so it's unknown how manny miles or idol time there is
T.F.D 1982 an Ambulance motor may not have a ton of miles but those were some hard miles for sure
What a beautiful truck. They will never die. Love them
StoneWell Forever thank you
True
I bought a 90 lariat 7.3idi with similar starting issues like your truck. After new glow plugs, glow plug control module, glow plug wire connector boots it now starts right up every time
TheMrdocmanny this one sadly has sever fuel issues that need addressed
From the looks of the video your house is so ideal to me, cars scattered everywhere, dirt/grass driveway, garage full of parts and a dad is a gearhead I’m assuming that would be perfect:)
DayTripperCrack I’d say I’m more the gearhead now he just thinks if it runs don’t touch it goes for the rest of my family while I believe in preventative maintenance
That is that is right tfd thank you for the reply
I can smell the diesel leaking from the injector return hats from here. Loved my old idi.
Actually it’s leaking from the fuel filter in this video
@@TFD1982 it will be leaking from the returns too
@@brentbell9543 yes I know it’s leaking air from just about everywhere that’s why it got parked plus now that I’ve burnt up the starter it’s just been sitting 3 years now again
@@TFD1982 these Idi’s are not that expensive to work on. Get the glow plug controller working. Lots of times it’s just the relay. Fix the injector returns. That will help the starting. Battery cables should be replaced. Ford best place to get them. All that, the starter, and the fuel filter is under $500 and it’ll run and start like a champ.
@Brent Bell the glow plugs were replaced before it sat again the main intrusion is coming from the selector valve it probably needs injectors also plus I’ve got to figure out the issue why it wouldn’t start from the ignition. The last thing I did was burn up the starter, about a year ago I began to take it off and I had one bolt left my dad got stung and we called it a day the last bolt is the top one which will need extensions. I have lost the two other bolts now that hold the starter in so I’m kinda stuck.. you think you know what your doing your more then welcome to come bring this thing back to life but we don’t have all that money just sittin around
Yeah those 7.3's when you don't start them up frequently they get bitchy, but they are still awesome motors lol if you take good care of them.
This is my favorite truck
Liam the Marching Band Guy exactly why it’s mine too!! Unfortunate for air leaking into the fuel
fix it , its worth it
Beautiful TRUCK!
TK Skagen thanks
It's amazing how the stuck valve just starts working again.
@Anthony Lopardo They did infact it just needed ran they seemed to free them selves up after running 20 mins or so
WOW 👍👍 that's a SURPRISE ALRIGHT..& a AWSOME TRUCK.
Started faster then some idis on cold starts
Воры в законе Supprizingly did I only cranked for a little before I started videoing
I can confirm, my idi takes a lot and a lot and a lot of cranking to start it up here in Canada
robglez I bet but make sure there is no air intrusion and all your glow plugs are working
@@TFD1982 I'm going to take a look at it. Yeah there may be a bit of air getting in as when I start it when it's summer it smokes a bit
wat a Beauty v8 diesel and H Floor shifter
"borrowed" a battery of a customer's vehicle? Nobody paid attention to that comment?
Jaime Cornejo ya know I’m actually surprised too I gave it right back after this video
Hope he was joking
bison group who was joking? I gave it back why would I keep it anyway?
Some People always seize on some trivial point in anything.
They just want a pointless argument.
The battery stolen 😆
Nice to see you bring the ol' girl back to life
Karl Sumner sure was
When I bought my powerstroke, I put a rag soaked in gas over the intake. Popped right off after sitting 2 years
Truckman 1985 this is an idi they are much harder to start since they run off a mechanical fuel pump which turns it to pumps fuel
👍 ANYthing is better than ether..!
Broken 4813 you bet!
I got my 1986 f250 6.9 idi I started and drove it by putting in battery’s only and it sat for 9 years
nice!
Legit. I was impressed by the 2-3 maybe 4 that mine sat. Lol. New fuel and a jump and she fired up. Took batteries, exhaust, tires, and some other small stuff to be my daily.
dchawk81 this things going to need a whole list of things including the housing for the fuel filter or something around the fuel filter because it's leaking around there, injectors ,switch or joint that brings the two tanks together ,starter all new rear tires in the ground for the tanks because the gauge is off calibration oh and two batteries
@@TFD1982 Yah those batteries are probably the biggest thing that made my wallet cry. Lol. It was something like $340 for the pair. They're nuts these days. I didn't even get high dollar ones. Just AutoZone.
@@TFD1982 If you really do want to get it going, take your time and do a little bit by bit. It's easier to handle that way. Mine has basically been a driving project.
1989 Ford f-350 got the engine running sitting there 6 years long time super diesel needs clean awesome video friend merry Christmas happy new year 2020
Craig Palmer thanks and to you as well
That's an ol ford fir ya!🤘🏼🇺🇸
Fords4life 91 heck yeah!
Heck yeah
Wow Great Job!. First run in 6 years? Damn.
raul rodriguez yeah wd40 really helped also a good strong battery
started easier than expected after 5 years
Shawn Cummings yes it did with how manny air intrusion problems this has I’m very surprised
Them old 7.3s are tough as nails
Saw you joined our forum wanted to re-watch the vid.
Thank you so much for rewatching
shaun goldsmith thank you so much I hope I can get it going again some time
What forum? Ive got an 88 7.3 IDI. About to do a gear vendors install. Check it out in my videos.
your family seems great. I love how youre all working with it. great vid
Thanks I guess??
@@TFD1982 i mean its good that you all came together for that moment i just thought it was wholesome lol
I'm not a ford fan but ill watch
1984 chevy c30 thank you for watching
Here's an idea. Rev the hell out of after it sat 5 years. Genius
Not going to hurt anything....except your feeling hahaha
Take your feelings somewhere else you little b**** leave the boys alone there learning they're getting it done
My exact thoughts
Idi can handle it
A engine that has bin setting that long ya revving it up may not hurt it but being there hasnt bin oil on the top side of that engine in a long time it could hurt it iv seen motors set for 15 years and fire up and people rev them and blow a holl out the side or drop a valve win shit hasnt had oil on it a long time it would be a good idea to let it set and run for a few minutes befor giving it hell ya them old idis can take a lot but just remember all them seals have to get oiled and stuff reving it right away could blow one out
Nice truck. Those 7.3 are pretty good engines.
Ricky Trager they are great engines this one just needs some work
This is so cool. Thanks for the video and amazing truck
UndergroundCustoms Toronto thanks I never knew it would become so popular I wish RUclips would pay me so I could fix it up
Best for start is Vanilla cockpit spray . we using in Europe . to start better then easy start
Good job
msm 038 thanks
Cool truck I have a 96 , I want to dually mine .
Thanks
U just gained a subscriber🤙🏼🇺🇸
Fords4life 91 thanks man hope to get it running next year! Starter or somethin broke
@@TFD1982 damn
This is really neat.
Thanks
1:14 HELL YEAH!!! 💪
Great video 😁👍👏
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
Memories
what were you best
What's the story on that 1967 Grand Prix
Mike Tate The car started out as a 67 Catalina it was converted into a Grand Prix we’ve had it in the family since I believe new I can’t remember who bought it but we recently sold it about a year ago I still miss it to this day wish I had the chance to fix it
Beautiful dog.
thanks
got a stuck or burnt intake valve,i got video of starting one i bought after 11 years of sitting.
Ford all cars strong And it is solid 🇹🇷
The old ones. New ones aren't anything like these!
Good dog
Definitely know way wow know way!!
Not real power houses but seem to run forever and take a beating
Got it out with no towing but the video stopped 😂 👊🏻 like if you feel it
onboost1992 I just rocked it back-and-forth letting in the clutch in and out
it looks and sounds like it only needs a proper inside out deep cleaning, engine and gearbox oil change, new filters, new tires, new battery and head lights need inside clean as well
Oleg oh hun you only know half the things
Pull the engine, do a solid $400 overhaul and You won't need ether or gas rag starts anymore 🍻
Texan Balaban riiight😂 400 maybe for a top end job
@@TFD1982 runs great. Glow plugs and gaskets was all I really needed. Bought a refurbished set of injectors last year for $240, glow plugs $91, gaskets $100 = $431
Texan Balaban oh that yes it could for sure, I thought you meant an engine rebuild lol
@@TFD1982 💯🤠🍻
@@TFD1982 also I have a 6.9L. Not sure of the intricacies of the 7.3L IDI though I’ve got a 91 7.3L I’m looking to rebuild soon.
Love those idi’s
Nice old truck you can tell that old wants move out of that spot
Yep it did but it is sitting again because the starter is not working plus the fuel leaks were getting worse last time it ran before it stopped. Haven’t had a chance in a year to drop the starter again hopefully I can in the spring I have been very busy lately and between the 96 caravan and 94 town and country. I haven’t thought about working on this truck. Thanks for watching.
Just bought an 84 F350 dually single cab ....about to try to turn it on as well , the difference its a 6.9 diesel
any advice ?
6.9 is better , no cavitation issue
@@frenchfryfarmer436 I think the 7.3 is better because the glow plug system is better. Can handle a turbo much better because it has 1/2 head bolts. If you run a quality DIESEL coolant in them cavitation is not a issue. The wiring in the bullnose trucks is shit compared to a brick nose or obs.
Fukin Mint👌
Farmers Code you bet!
Sounded like some lifters or valves were stuck just like my truck, if got a video on my channel if you want to look! Nice video
BakerBoys thanks this video was long ago it just went viral this past November it hasn’t ran in over 2 years hopefully I can work on it again
@@TFD1982 you should! That would be cool to see a follow up video on it!
BakerBoys I’ve done videos here and there that feature it at certain points you’d have to go back and look at some of my videos
@@TFD1982 oh! Ok sounds good
What has been going on with you're blue Trans-am and the red firebird you have those are awesome cars.
Nothing.. still sitting no money and no time right now thanks for asking.
It doesn’t have a turbo it’s a 7.3 idi aka naturally aspirated ford put turbos on the 7.3 in 1994 and then in 95 they came out with the power stroke with direct injection which is all the same block as the 6.9
Yup, that's what mine is. Ordered it in Aug. Of '94, and was told they dropped the 6.9, and could only get the 7.3 . Mine uses a mechanical fuel pump.
You could get a turbo IDI. Banks made a kit and some were either dealer or factory installed. This applies to 6.9 and 7.3 IDIs.
randy s Our before the engine swap had a Banks turbo added from a private seller who put the runningboards and turbo on
But still they were different injection systems
Ether works better than wd40… wd40 changed their formula to include fire inhibitors around 2015
Interesting what a shame seemed to kinda help in this instance I’ve not a fan of either because most people don’t know how to use it right but IF used correctly it won’t hurt diesels
@@TFD1982 look up zipties and bias plys.. old slave lake gets the go juice by the case and can’t kill that 7.3. My truck gets the juice every now and then when I have a low battery and no problems so far
Diesel actually forms a bacteria when sitting long enough
Purrs like a kitten that's so big it could eat a horse and holy fing rust holes
theres not rust on this big rig!
What's up tfd updating new videos you sound like a really cool
Thanks, but I’m not
I am not cool and you spamming like this is redictuless you can watch each video on my channel but please limit to only one comment and please make a full sentence and it must make complete sense and not broken up I’m going to be watching every comment from now on and if you continue this I will just delete your comments.
That’s not the turbo gauge it’s a engine oil psi and temps
Moneyballgaming yes they were the turbo gauge at some point another they no longer work and it clearly says boost on one side
@randy s Did you watch the video? It had a Banks kit on it but the turbo is missing.
Matt G because it's a different motor I have turbo laying around somewhere
You completely butchered Zip Ties N Bias Plies's name in the description lol.
Shooter McGavin this was posted a while wasn’t sure how to spell it I’ll change it soon-thanks
Is there a part 2 lol
Dave Campbell sorta not a full In-depth one but there are a few of this truck being mentioned on my channel
I wonder why it has the banks badging, but no turbo
Because the engine had to be replaced and when my granmpa put it back together he didn’t have the stuff to make the exhaust.
I hear a valve either stuck or not sealing
randy fravel yeah from what I’m told I got a stuck valve
Sounds like one cylinder has low compression. You can kinda hear it skip when cranking it!!
Could be
Damn a Jaguar XJS rotting outside...!!! How??!
MotorScotti a old guy that lets cars sit and forgets about them and always helps his kids and never has time for himself
I see, can't do it all at the same time.
MotorScotti yeah it’s getting bad now around this place again it was so bad here there was probably 10-15 cars here maybe less, before the county told him to get rid of most of them
I still don't know how to drive a manual? How old are you?
I was 18 in this video it’s super easy! There was no feeling like lol even tho it was the driveway 😆
Didnt watch whole video but sounds like it's got bad valve guides
I noticed that
Sounds like a valve is washed out or not seating properly
Jaime Cornejo I’ve been getting that a lot lately
@@TFD1982 just try a good synthetic oil and some rev x oil additive. Remember it's been sitting a while.
@@TFD1982 oh and fuel injector cleaner. Hot shot secret premium dose.
Jaime Cornejo it doesn’t run right now it needs a new starter
L J I didn’t mean to rev it that much
Hey I think you replied not just now found it on my phone I put two 1,000 cramps cranking batteries in it come to find out the two I had were only 650s well I opened the top of the fuel pump injector pump took a little squeegee sucked all the fuel out no allergy no water spun it over it immediately filled back up from the mechanical pump through the filter the two solenoids when you turn the key they clicked I put the pump back in did not damage the o-ring back to the first injector if you're leaning over to radiator be the first one on the right I broke it a little bit and I spun it some now I've got a trickle but I just haven't had time to mess with it again since I put the thousand amp batteries in it I appreciate your reply sorry about not getting back to you I don't really understand how to use this these phones but thank you again for your time
I don’t think I replied to but it’s great to hear you got it working 👍🏼
you said 5 years but you spell 6 years which one is it?
I can’t remember it was either 5 or 6 why does it matter🤷🏼♂️ it’s been sitting another 5 or 6 years or whenever I did a running video last on this.
Everyone hates the sound of dodge starters but don't pay attention to the ford starters just pointing that out
i dont get it?
THIS TRUCK IS NOT FOR SALE
Is that a Pontiac Trans Am I see on the side of the screen
I love Pontiac Trans Am what year is it

tweakyota1988 definitely plain to just needs its fuel problem solved and my next thing to do I figure out if I burnt out the starter or not so I’ll have to drop it once all this rain is over with
Can it Run with out a turbo charger
Rosa Villanueva of course this engine was manufactured with out a turbo it’s naturally aspirated
Idi can ran without a turbo. They came factory without them

not for sale
Would you ever sell it?

What kind of spray is that?
Just wd40

@@joseluisvargas8234 yep that’s what it was no joke although some of the plugs were working at the time I’ve heard it doesn’t work as well now because they changed the formula or somethin
Wrong air cleaner, and it sounds like it lost a valve.
Nathaniel Clark wouldn’t be surprised after sitting so long and if you read the Description the motor was replaced way before I was born and the motor came from an ambulance so one that’s why it’s an idi non-turbo And who knows what happened to the air cleaner when it was switched anyway it looks awesome the way it is
Nathaniel Clark would this explain it not getting air to a cylinder
Do you still have that truck? If you do I'm from ohio and would be interested in it
You people will never get it ITS NOT FOR SALE
Did anyone really think 5 years was gonna matter for this old diesel?? Not sure why he’s so surprised, that’s nothin.. “I wonder if it goes int gear he says”. Lmao.. dude its NOT something thats been sitting in the woods for 30 years.. it just took a little break. Power wash and drive..
