I’ve been struggling with panic disorder since about 4 months ago. It’s gotten better but I’ve had to quit a sport I love because I’ve now developed cardio phobia and medical anxiety. I miss the person I was before anxiety took over my life. I can’t even laugh without getting scared that I’m not getting enough oxygen for my heart. The doctors have told me countless times that I’m a healthy young girl with a long life ahead of me yet i feel like my brain is hard wired to think the worst is going to happen anytime I feel any discomfort. I’m losing hope more and more everyday, sometimes I wish the panic attacks would just kill me.
It gets to the point where I’m crying and screaming for my mom to tell me not to give up in the midst of the attack.

My first one was last week and I thought I was going to faint . I was breathing heavily and my heart was racing . I was sweating and my limbs went numb. It came out of nowhere. I have been extremely stressed lately so I guess my subconscious made it happen. It happened again yesterday and even today I feel like I’m on the verge of one .

Hi Valentina, thank you for sharing your. It’s very a very odd experience the first time it happens. What are doing about it? Have you found any particular techniques help you. I have another video here with some advice on how to bring you back to normally. I really recommend watching this video for helping your anxiety in the short term:
      ruclips.net/video/vrOek6Cf9Ss/видео.html
And this video for helping to resolve your anxiety long term: ruclips.net/video/AKYOsNeyORk/видео.html
But the real sway to solve it is to find out the root cause of your anxiety and either remove it from your life or learn to become comfortable with it. It may be worth talking to a counsellor about this.
Let me know what you think of the videos and I may be able to help with some more advice.
Much much love to you and stay well.

Hey man, just saw your video about your first panic/anxiety attack. very similar story to me. I was at work one day, and my arm started feeling tingly, numb, started getting a sever headache and blurred vision. Keep in mind I had just gotten the booster shot and i immediately assumed the shot was causing me to have some type of stroke or heart attack. I read too many articles before getting my booster, so those thoughts were in my head. Eventually those feelings went away, but i felt terrible for a couple days. Ended up going to the emergency room one night, and the doctors did every test possible on me. Turned out I had an anxiety attack. Same as you, I was never one to let stress get to me, I was always one to be able to deal with it. But, like you, there were many things going on in my life. Work, wife, children, i was in the process of buying a house, Covid, I had just lost my best friend, the war in Ukraine, ETC. I just didn't realize how it was effecting me. And then that one day, it just all came out. I too literally thought I was dying. It's been about a month now. Things have gotten a little better. I'm not taking medication, but I still feel a little anxious every day. Some days its good, some days (mostly at night), its a little intense, but nothing I can't get through. But seeing your video, and how similar it was, it brought some comfort to me knowing that this is something that is normal, and that I can try to fight. Hope your doing well, and hopefully you reach out with some advice!!

    • @MattHutton
      @MattHutton  2 года назад +1

Hey Richie, I’m sorry to hear what you went through and about your friend…
First thing I would say is don’t fight the anxiety, it’s like a Chinese finger trap the harder you pull the tighter it grips. You should practice being okay with not being in control with how you feel all the time. Your body is complex and has survived many years without you needing to con control how your heart pumps how you breath in and out and if you come to terms not being in control. You will indirectly be controlling it.
I’d also recommend scheduling time for yourself to relax. If you like body touches, then massages really help distract your mind.
But above all, find a trusted person or councillor you can talk to about your anxiety, because until you find the route cause of what made you anxious it will continue to trigger anxious moments in your life. The act of talking out loud about what is making you anxious can often make thing better, because your mind has to rationalise thoughts to turn them in to sentence as you speak out-loud and I often find that when I talk it outloud I realise how irrational my thought process actually was. You can even do this alone and it works, but it’s more helpful to speak to some, who can reflect your thoughts back at you.
For me the anxiety derived from a feeling of not being in control. And ironically allowing the anxiety to wash over me and accept that I wasn’t in control, over a period of time, it slowly got better and better. I also quit my job which I was very unhappy with and this also removed a lot of stress from my day to day.
Richie, I hope this helps. I also have some other videos on my channel. The one that says I had anxiety for 3 years, is a really useful one. And there are also some tips on how to deal with anxiety longterm and short term which have a lot of tips.
One final point. When I first had anxiety for the first 1,2,3 months it was chaos. My mind kept triggering panic attacks all over the place. It’s like a switch had been flicked and it was super easy to trigger a panic attack, almost embarrassing easy. So just ride it out, it will get easier, don’t expect any of my suggestions to work immediately, just keep them as tools and have a go at them when the time is right, here and there and they will become more effective. So don’t worry. All the best Richie, your not alone :)

I’ve been having anxiety for years now and well aware how it can effect you physically, I’ve never given it much thought and it’s just become part of my life now and tend to manage it as apposed to trying to get rid of it, having got asthma as well it was always difficult to differentiate between an anxiety/panic attack and an asthma attack, I noticed it got worse when I got a dog, probably some subconscious feeling that I was now responsible for him as well as my self, the way I tend do deal with stress and anxiety is to manage it as best I can and keep it below the surface until I can de-stress which probably will be by doing some work on my house or car, or even just watching Netflix, basically just time to my self and to reset. I know a big trigger for me is confrontation and the feeling that people are always looking and judging me, but in times when I lose control of it and start getting breathing problems and tunnel vision I need to take my self out of whatever situation has caused it and be on my own for a bit, but I’m pretty sure mine is caused by situations then and there and not a build up of problems that may effect me in the future, I’ll tend to just tackle each problem as it arises breaking what seems like 1 big problem into lost of little ones spread over time. Thanks for the video mate.

I just had my first panic attack yesterday, it all started after being with a girl and she told me some nasty things she did, at the time i was hearing them i didnt reacted (i was also reslly high) bust the next day i couldnt stop thinking about all the things she told me. She told me that she loved cheating with his exboyfriend best friend, and she told me this stories about her fucking him really specific. And for some reason it shocked me so hard i couldnt stop thinking about it. I started to feel depressed and absolutely devastated, i realized i didnt want to be with someone like that and i felt like guilt and other things. It lasted for about 4 hrs. There were times i couldnt breathe. Its important to say that i myself once were in a situation where a friend of mine had something with this girl i was going out with, i think that made me feel realted to the exboyfriend, also she told me some personal stories before all of this cheating crap, and i identified myself with her so much that for a few hours i actually thought of her as something more than a free fucking relationship. Finally it got over and now i have so much things to reaplant myself.

I had a panic attack one week ago. Honestly, I had the same feelings and thoughts that you expressed here in this video.
I'm a CS student and currently still in my exam period. I wasn't really stressed or more anxious than before, I just had some deadlines to meet, some projects to finalize but I didn't feel more pressure than usual.
Days prior to my attack, I had one moment where I thought that my heart skipped a beat, it didn't hurt or anything, but it felt a bit strange. I began to check my pulse over the course of the next days, and sometimes it felt a bit weak. It concerned me, but I kept on working on my project. Then, some days later, five minutes before midnight, I felt a bit unwell and I was a bit worried that there actually could be a problem with my heart, although in my case it would have been unlikely, I'm 23 and rather healthy. I sat down, kept the phone close to me, just in case. Then, out of nowhere, I felt a bit dizzy and my heart began to race fast and pound hard as shit.
It was that moment where I actually thought „well yeah you are having a heart attack“. I immediately called emergency services, told them that I was feeling like I was going to die, that my heart was beating fast and hard and that I felt like I was going to pass out.
The ambulance came, the paramedics hooked me up to a portable heart monitor, bpm and blood pressure were high as a kite, but heart rhythm looked normal. We talked about my situation, they calmed me down a bit, bpm and blood pressure decreased. They told me that they were pretty sure I just experienced a panic attack, that going to the hospital would result in me leaving the next day and that I should stay at home and keep calming down on my own.
Never experienced something like that. I always thought panic attacks were more on the mental side, make you cry and have anxious thoughts. I never knew it would affect the heart in such a way that you would think you're having a heart attack.
TL;DR: I felt a bit unwell over the course of some days, got concerned that I there would be a problem with my heart. That "fear" unconsciously rose to the point that I began having a panic attack, which in return made me believe that I was actually having a heart problem or even a heart attack. Lack of sleep and project deadlines probably contributed to everything.

    • @MattHutton
      @MattHutton  3 года назад +1

Thank you for this message. Yeah you describe it quite well. It doesn’t have to be a conscious fear, sometimes it just builds up inside you and you’re unaware of it until it hits. You right though because you were worried about your heart and you were checking your pulse and you thought it was low, it probably exacerbated the problem.
The best way to keep calm is to tell yourself, your not in control of how you feel 100% of the time and anxiety on average lasts from between 30-50 minutes, so you just need to stay comfortable and ride it out and know that you’re going to be fine. Sometimes easier said than done, but at the end of the day you will be fine so might as well just relax into it.
Eating well, sleeping well, and exciting regularly (for enjoyment and just getting your blood flowing, not pushing yourself super hard until you feel you can) will massively effect your daily mental health.
I’ve been mostly anxiety free for nearly 8 months now. I get it maybe once every 2-3 months very mildly.
      Stay well and stay safe.
      Best regards, Matt

@@nicoletiana I felt the same and that further triggered my anxiety.
Thinking that there is something wrong with you that you can’t control. But once you become comfortable with the fact that you’re not in control of how you feel 100% of the time it will subside.
I had my first panic attack 3 years ago and I was experiencing anxiety every day and now I get it maybe every 2-3 months.
You really need to get to understand the root cause of the problem, the number one thing that triggers your anxiety and either resolve it or remove it from your life. That will be a major step in solve it longterm. It can be good to keep a diary of what happens before after and during your panic attacks and anxiety to help identify your triggers, which will get you on track to resolving them. It will also help you feel better that your doing something towards solving the problem yourself.

So what I really don't understand: I was diagnosed with panic attacks 6 years ago, but my experience is just utterly different. Like not in a "it's kinda different for everyone" way, but completely different from how you explain it. I can have a "panic attack" and be aware it's not harmful to me, it still doesn't stop and will last for some more hours. I can even seem to be calm from the outside while having that mental state. All those breathing exercises, mindfulness and meditation techniques don't change anything for me and don't seem to be the adequate intervention in my case. All those other people I met who had panic attacks found a CBT way around them and gained back their lives, but for me they just don't work. It's come to the point that I start to doubt if my issues are actually panic attacks and I've been put in the wrong recovery environment from the start. Ever since my first attack I started to have real issues with my health. My blood pressure is doing parcours and sometimes I faint out of the blue. Don't get me wrong, I'm not too concerned about my health as I'm still quite young and won't die anytime soon, but it's really difficult being so sick and having no tools to get healthy again.

I hate panic attacks but I know what it is now so I can just sit back and let the sensations roll over me. Its just a rush of adrenaline but you get hit with a massive dose of it all over. It makes your face feel numb, your eyesight goes into overdrive, your heart is thumping out of your chest and your entire head feels like it is being squashed. Its really horrific feeling....but it doesnt last, the chemicals wash over and it subsides after a while. Just breath nice and slow through it, dont be afraid it will not kill you but it certainly feels like that at the time. Your body is just confused by your own thoughts and has manually taken over to try and "save" you from the situation.

Hey Jose, that must have been difficult. Now that you know it’s a panic attack, that’s good. Take some time to yourself and try to find out the root cause of what is making you feel anxious. It can help to write a couple of notes on what happened just before you had a panic attack or that day and share it with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to help you find out what is making you so anxious.
I have a great deal less anxiety now and it doesn’t happy for month on end now. And I barely ever get panic attacks now. Before it was nearly every day and now it’s every 9-12 months maybe. Often too much caffeine brings them on. Or not eating, sleeping, exercising, or just generally being good to myself and loving a healthy life. Massively hangovers and no sleep massively provoked a panic attack. But sometimes you can’t let it get in the way of your life.
I’ve also got a couple of videos on my channel about how to reduce anxiety in the short term when your having and attack and longer term to help manage it moving forward. Feel free to check them out too :)

I just recovered from Covid. Went to work for the 1st time yesterday and felt alright. Today I went in and I got this weird numbing headache, then I thought to myself is covid coming back to me? Then I felt like my energy disappeared, my boss told me I can go home but as I was walking I felt like I couldn't breathe, sat there and tried to calm down, then I felt alone and felt like my body was going numb and short of breathe, called 911 they told me what to do, felt like I was about to pass out, so I layed on the ground, felt like my heart raced and my breathing was getting shorter, then I felt like my heart was stopping and I was gonna die, I just remember saying help a lot, then kinda just accepted it. Finally the paramedics came, took my vitals and said I was fine. They said i really didn't need to go to the hospital and just hung out with me for an hour talking till I got better, they told me it sounded most likely a panic attack and that I'm gonna be fine. So now I'm here, resting at home trying to find a solution to prevent future episodes. I seriously thought my covid came back, freaking scary.

@@MattHutton Thank you, Matt for your reply. Means alot to me. I currently don't have insurance (I had insurance all throughout my cancer treatment) but left my job because of the stress I was under. I am not currently seeking therapy but will as soon as I have insurance. I just got back from a short walk with my dog. My heart goes out to anyone who is going through this because you really can't explain it to someone unless they have been through it. I feel like I am having a nervous breakdown but I will take it one day at a time until I can work through this.

@@csc1641 I found it very useful to explain it out load to someone who I trust, because they were able to help me realise that a lot of the thoughts I was having were irrational. It might be a good interim step before you can get professional therapy. It will help you feel like you’re already on the journey to getting better, rather than feeling like a sitting duck until you can get therapy. It can also helps to externalise your thoughts so that you can really hear yourself talk about yourself out loud, it forces you to make the connections in your self talk to make sense when you speak it out loud and a lot of it will not make sense, which helped me to realise how much damage I was doing to myself for no reason. Or at least it wasn’t helpful.
I’d also highly recommend scheduling time for yourself, to relax/meditate and be in nature, which I can see you’re already doing. It helped me a lot to spend 5 minutes just walking outside in nature on my own each morning before doing anything else. To just to enjoy the sun/rain, sounds, smells.
I’m not sure what your anxiety derives from so it’s hard to make recommendations.

Maybe you should call NHS 111, or your doctor just to make sure you’re all fine. It’s always good to get reassurance and an accurate assessment of your health, as you see a little unsure.
It’s best not to self diagnose until your doctors says there is nothing physically wrong with you. Stay well 🙂

musickislife1 hope you’re doing well. Like I mentioned if you see a doctor it will help a lot to make you realise that there is nothing to feel anxious about. I used to think I may have a tumour or a heart problem. Had all the examinations, everything was fine. So the anxiety would leave for about 3-6 weeks after getting checked up. I’ve since found the cause of my anxiety and have been free from it for quite a while now. I hope you can too. For me it is controlling and manipulative people, I can’t be around them. So I quit my job and started another business. I’ve be anxiety free for month now. It’s the hard question you ask yourself, that can make your life easier. If you can understand what truly triggers your anxiety that will help you exponentially. If you’d be happy to share I might be able to help. I will do an update on my progress on RUclips soon.

I have had quite a few in my life some worse than others. I myself will get a weird feeling with my heart racing I get shaky and can't talk I get confused. I feel like I'm going to die no matter how many I have had the feeling is just so intense it's just as bad the 20th time as the first time. Some, have lasted way longer where my anxiety seemed to make it worse and there have been couple times where I was able to get my mind off of it and it went away quicker which don't happen often lol. I'll start pacing around as if I'm lost my body is there but my mind is somewhere else. Can't have a rational thought because all I can thank of in the moment is my heart is going to explode... I quit smoking weed because panic attacks are bad enough but when u have one on top of being high it's probably the closest to feeling like your dying with no end than anything else. I have went a few times to hospital when thy got real bad heartbeat 160 beats a min when your just sitting there chest tight, shaky man it's the worst feeling in the world. Everytime, I have went they just give me something to slow my pulse and send me home. After, I have one im wore out too makes me tired as hell. But, hell when your heart is beating 160 beats a min for couple hours what do u expect lol

Had my first attack a couple months ago. Went to the gym that morning and felt a pain in my head while lifting. Later at home was worrying I could have a brain bleed as I had a bad headache (turns out this was nothing) and then I had a panic attack, came on super fast and cause of the headache thought I had a brain bleed and was dying. Also for a bit couldn't understand what people were saying to me and felt like my memories were all gone. By far the scariest moment of my life, said goodbye to all my family (I'm 18) then went in ambulance to hospital. Everything came back fine and nobody knew what happened. Thank god I figured out what it was today after having a bit of an attack last night. I'm not crazy haha

      Hey Oliwia,
I have had anxiety for 2 years now and in the beginning it was fairly severe. I would get similar symptoms to having a heart attack. (If you are reading this and get heart attack symptoms, always take it seriously and call an ambulance to get help and be checked, if you are unsure).
However, after 2 years I have found that to really become comfortable and at easy with anxiety and to even stop it altogether you need to find the biggest trigger for your anxiety attacks and either remove that from your life or become comfortable/at peace with it.
For me the my first panic attack was caused by a series of things happening at once in my life, but then was maintained and sustained by the feeling of being controlled and manipulated by other people. And this really became the major trigger for me. I was lucky enough to find the opportunity to remove those people from my life and have been anxiety free often for week and months.
Try to keep a diary, or write some notes on what happened immediately prior and or what happened in the build up to you anxiety attacks, to try and spot a pattern. You can share this with your doctor, or councillor or someone you trust to help identify what you triggers are and how you can go about resolving them.
You will feel soooo so much better I promise you.
And you will indirectly be taking control over your anxiety by doing something about it and will in turn make you feel less helpless about, which will hopefully cause less panic attacks.
      I hope that helpful.
I may do an update video soon on how I feel in myself today.
      Best regards, Matt

@@shinzjl Hey man, I’m feeling much happier and much better these days. Because I am now more aware of what triggers my anxiety. But I’m 2 1/2 year in from my first panic attack. And I haven’t had a panic attack for the last 1 1/2 years now. It’s definitely something that you can tame and significantly if not completely get rid of ‘if’ you can find the real source of your anxiety and either remove it from your life or make peace with it.
If you need help calming some of your short term anxiety symptoms I have a video of some things that I found and find really helpful that I’d love for you to watch. I know what it’s like and I think you’ll find it really useful: ruclips.net/video/vrOek6Cf9Ss/видео.html
And here are also some things that you might find useful for trying to resolve you anxiety long term: ruclips.net/video/AKYOsNeyORk/видео.html
I’d also really recommend seeking some kind of counselling with a professional, or with someone that you trust very much, just to talk to about what’s on your mind. Just anything, and by saying those things out loud you can actually begin to see how irrational so of those things might be, especially if your anxiety is triggered by worries or fears, however small they might be.
I know how it feels and I don’t wish it upon anyone, but I also want to make people aware of what it’s like, who don’t have it and also let people know who do have it, that it won’t last forever and it’s going to be okay.
Do you mind me asking how old you are?
      Stay well man.

    • @MattHutton
      @MattHutton  3 года назад

@Sean Lim I'm 29 and it can happen at any age, but people at our sort of ages seem to be more prone due to increased external pressures and growing up in a world with unlimited access to information. I'd for sure recommend talking to a trusted person or professional counsellors about exactly what it is that stresses you about your job and your student loan. For example: Are you unsatisfied with the job and why, is there a specific person that stresses you at work and why, is there a specific task that stresses you.
Keep asking why until you get to the deep rooted reason. And speaking to someone else out loud about this can help them to question your worries and why they might be irrational or how you might go about fixing the issues. For example, moving to a different position in the company that would make you happier. Asking a manager or colleague for help with tasks or sharing tasks that you find particularly stressful. Or a change of job or courier path, if it’s something you can’t see yourself building a future in. Obviously I don’t know your situation at all and can’t make any judgment or recommendations on your situation. And I know it sounds simple, but really having a good think and pin pointing exactly what specific thing could be causing you the ‘MOST’ stress and worry, over anything else and resolving that, could in-fact be the one thing that gets you back to feeling on top of the world again and all those other smaller worries will feel like nothing, once that one big one has been resolved.
I’m not sure where you are from, but student loans for example, in the UK, you don’t have to start paying them until you reach a certain threshold of earning and the interest rate is quite low. So it’s not something that is will stop you from moving forward in life.

Hey Raynold, I know what you mean. But the important thing is to submit to lack of control and you’ll inadvertently end controlling it. Because the more you try to control it and figure out ‘what is wrong’ the worse it often gets.
It the lack of control that often sparks the anxiety. You have be okay with not being in control of how you feel 100% of the time.
