      They are exhausting. Your adrenaline is pumping so hard from the panic your body feels like youve been exercising for hours. If you have ever had a close call in a car and had that wave of panic wash over you, it's that feeling magnified and for longer.

      *FreeBleach* wouldn't say it's painful (My panic attacks haven't been), but depending on how it started, it could be really scary, and it sometimes just pulls you down into it and it gets worse.

      Kingpisser the best thing is for someone to tell the person who is having the attack to breathe. Breathe slowly. In and out. Deep breaths. Tell them that they are ok. Tell them that you are there for them. Whatever you do, don't make them feel like they have no reason to panic for (I've had someone say things like that to me which made it incredibly worse). Just help them just by talking calmly and reminding them to breathe. Having someone help them get out of their own mind is crucial while they're having an attack.

      Denisa Rossmüllerová I totally agree! I don't have panic attacks either but knowing this and "what it feels like" will probably help me if I ever encounter someone who experiences it in their daily life!

      Denisa Rossmüllerová I have them and it helps me to talk about it. So if you have a friend who has them, just tell them they need to talk about it, even when they are having them. Talking works the best, it calms them down and distracts them. In the beginning try being calm too, then maybe start asking some small talk questions and focus on happy things. It can take a while before the person awnsers, just give them time and space and don't ever put pressure on them. Later when they calm down a little you can try talking about why they are having it and what they are feelig! I love you for trying to understand! :)

      It can be terrifying and the people making fun of it on here are just being douche bags. It's not funny in any sort of way. I have panic and anxiety attacks nearly every day and I would give anything to not have to go through the BS. I hope all of the young people here who are suffering from panic and anxiety get the help they need. When I was younger my Mom didn't believe in psychological disorders so I didn't get treatment until I had major panic attacks along with postpartum depression after the birth of my second child. I have gotten therapy on and off for the past 30 years, mostly not but a little here and there. I am now 53 and I suffer so badly from anxiety, depression, panic disorder and Borderline Personality disorder, that I developed agoraphobia and I am scared to leave my house unless I have to go to the doctor. Thank the Lord I have a good support system at home, a great husband and grown children. I keep hoping one day this will all end. I cut and feel suicidal. Those of you making fun of these disorders, get a grip on yourself and realize there are people out here who have serious problems. People making fun of the kids need to stop before you push one of them to commit suicide. That would be a real tragedy. Stop and think.

    • @kayleigh9718
      @kayleigh9718 7 лет назад +2

      Dianna Calbaugh I have a lot of respect for you! And you should be proud of the fact that you have lovely children and a great husband! People with these disorders usually tend to push people away out of fear but you created a family. Its a shame you dont go out of the house and I don't know how severe it is. Try baby steps. Front garden etc. Walk around the neighborhood. Try going grocery shopping. Nothing more! If you can conquer that you might learn to conquer the attacks a little. And if you have one. Just talk to someone! Try controlling your breathing and talk!! Bless you and your kids :)

    I've had panic attacks my entire life and I've never been okay with it. They started after my friend committed suicide. I barely started watching Anthony's simulation and I started to have one. They suck. They are the worst. Nobody should have to deal with them. Every single little thing feels so blown up that you just can't function. I'm sorry Anthony, I know what they are like. If you do suffer from panic attacks, just remember that you are loved. These attacks can lead to so much more, like suicide or cutting yourself. You are loved, somebody cares about you.

      Hey Rachel, I can trigger panick attacks myself too and through years of experience it has actually helped me learn how to detect when I feel a panic attack might be coming and give me enough time to either fix it before it happens and hault it until I can get to a safe space. It's not easy but know that you are not alone :) If you are in therapy I recommend talking about it to your doctor. It will give you the feeling of having more control over your anxiety and it won't feel so much like a curse :)

      I can give myself a panic attack, too. What helps me is to turn out the lights, lay down, and listen to music through headphones. I feel like I'm having sensory overload during attacks, so it helps me to have something like music to completely focus on to drown out whatever my inner anxiety-voice is saying. Sometimes I can catch it early enough to calm myself down before it turns into full-blown hyperventilating. My triggers are worrying about performance (like in school or at work) and stressful social situations (big crowds or overly confrontational people).

  • @indigointerjer7062
    @indigointerjer7062 7 лет назад +140

    I'm 16 (17 next week) and I have Asperger's syndrome, which brings with it quite severe anxiety. I hate having anxiety attacks; I used to have them nearly every week, but now they're less frequent. The fact that I could have a panic attack at any minute feels so crippling, and my inability to communicate properly with people just makes it feel worse. The paramedics have had to be called on at least two separate occasions, and it's terrifying when it happens. People who have never had one could never understand, even if they try. Anthony, I want to thank you for giving a surprisingly good illustration of what an anxiety attack is like. And to everyone who has anxiety, or autism, or depression, or all of the above and more (like me), listen to what I'm about to say very closely, because it's important:
    *YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE GRATEFUL IT'S NOT WORSE.*
    Anyone who says that does not understand what a burden it can be. No matter what the situation, there will always be someone who is worse off; you have to draw the line somewhere, and start thinking about your own wellbeing.
    Remember that there's always a solution, no matter the problem, and above all, take care of yourself - you are your own worst critic

    I really appreciated this video. I've had symptoms and feelings of anxiety for a couple of years now and over the past 6 months or so I fell into a deep rut of depression. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I had my first legitimate panic attack a month ago. I couldn't breathe, my heart was racing, I broke into a cold sweat, and my body went into so much distress that I passed out. For a couple of weeks after that, I was terrified of it happening again which obviously led to more panic attacks, though less severe. Fortunately for me, I have an amazing boyfriend who has held my hand and been there for me through it all. I also attended a Catholic retreat in San Diego and religious views aside, it really helped me because I learned to let go of my need to have everything perfect and just go with the flow. Tomorrow I am moving out to college for the first time and that is giving me great anxiety, but I really appreciate when you talked about being in control. We may never not have anxiety; it may be a recurring thing for the rest of our lives, but there are times when we can realize that ultimately we are in control of that and everything will be okay. Thank you Anthony!

      @kayleigh9718 7 лет назад +3

      debodrumsitck27 Trust me, you'll be fine in college. It's fun and a great responsibility but it distracts you from fears you might have. Some tips for when it does happen. Talk to someone, I mean verbal not via text. Its okay if you are out of breath, you don't need to reply immediately. Just talk about positive things like what you are gonna do next weekend. Also try sitting straight on a chair or something. Also a cold towel on your head might calm you. But the most important things are you breathing and thaughts. Talking ks the best option for both. It distracts and calms down!!!!! And dont worry to much about the future! Try living week to week. It might be a little less convenient and stuff but it helps with the fear. Also set small goals that make you happy throughout the day. This brings you in a better mood :)

      I find that talking to someone while you're having a panic attack really does help. I'd get on this website called 7 Cups of Tea where you get to connect with a 'listener'/confidant and text them as you vent. They'd hear you out and give you some advice, or they could just talk to you, and that in itself would help you get your mind off the anxiety. It really does help and I'm so thankful for 7 Cups of Tea. Also, good luck in college! I'm heading off to college myself in a few days and I totally get you, it really is nerve-wrecking lmao. I guess I just gotta remember taking things slowly, always remembering to incorporate mindful breathing and remembering that I'm in control as I try to give myself a panic attack

    When I first had a panic attack I thought I was having a heart attack, I literally went to the ER. It’s so scary the way I thought about it was. If you survive 15 minutes your fine. Once 15 mins is over nothing will happen because if you can control your self for 15 minutes you can control yourself forever.

    • @KayleighBA92
      @KayleighBA92 7 лет назад +35

      Aron Zarate derealisation is one of the worst and scariest things about anxiety! I thought I was going insane and like I was going to have a psychosis... I'm trying to remember a few things and that helps: 1. Panic attacks or anxiety can not damage your body or brain and you can not go insane from having them. 2. Accepting it will make it go away faster than fighting and fearing it since it will give it less power. 3. It's just chemicals in your brain being weird and having the right reaction (panic is normal during scary situations like a robbery) during the wrong time (just hanging out or grocery shopping). 4. Lots of people have anxiety and panic attacks and no one can die from them or have them last forever.

When I'm going through a bad few days or weeks, I sometimes constantly feel like I'm not really here or like parts of my body don't belong to me (even though they're not numb at all and I can feel them just fine). It's scary and does make you feel like you're about to go insane but you won't. Hang in there, you're not alone!

      Some people actually don't hyperventilate during panic attacks, but yes, it sucks. it feels like you don't have any air but in reality, there's _too_ much air in your lungs

    • @hillomunkkiseni
      @hillomunkkiseni 7 лет назад +2

      I hyperventilate and often concretely pass out, then I just lie on the ground in the pool of my own tears, unable to consciously move a single muscle but for some reason my entire body is twitching uncontrollably, almost as if I was having epilepsy, I can hear and understand everything that people say around me and I remember it all afterwards but I am unable to react to anything, I have no way of contacting them and am just stuck alone in my endless loop of horrible thoughts racing through my head, feeling like I'm dying and then wishing I would die because it feels so horrible, like it's so scary to kind of be present, but not really, this once it went on for almost an hour and there were moments I didn't breathe at all because the air just wouldn't move properly in and out (and then the rest of the time I was hyperventilating even more) so people had to call an ambulance, they then injected something that eventually made me calm down... Thank god I haven't had one that bad since and as I know the warning signs of an upcoming panic attack, the burning in my neck, tingling and numbness of my fingers and the beginning hyperventilation I can usually consciously stop it before it get's too serious by breathing calmly and saying to myself that it's okay, don't think about that thing that makes you anxious right now.

    I had my first panic attack when I was four. I've had them ever since. If you would like, here are some of my tips for panic attacks:
    When your are in the middle of a panic attack it's hard to do anything at all but just remember that the worst will be over in less than 60 seconds but here here a few things that might help
    Make sure you are breathing, but if you're anything like me, you might and up hyperventilating by focusing on it to much just keep it slow and don't hold your breath
    A friend once taught me this thing where you name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 2 sounds you can hear (and if you can 1 thing you can smell but sometimes you can't smell anything) You don't have to do a specific number too it just helps me (obviously this may not work if you are blind of Deaf) It's called grounding. It basically helps you feel like a human being again.
    I know it's hard to do, but try and relax your muscles, go from your shoulders, to your arms to your finger to your stomach to your legs to your feet and to your toes (or visa versa ya know whatever works for you)
    And as Anthony already said, talk! Talk about it, or just talk about something mindless and try to distract yourself from it
    In the words of dodie Clark "I get that I don't get it, you will burn right now but then you won't regret it, little things, all the stereotypes, they're gonna help you get thought this one night and there will be a day when you can say your ok and mean it, I promise you, it will all make sense again"
    Sending love to everyone who has ever dealt with anxiety (and mental illness in general) you are loved, you are appreciated, you are valid, your thoughts are valid and you are NOT a burden!

      I use the breathing thing.
      Just try to breathe in 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds and breath out for 8 seconds. And just do it over And over and focus only on this. It helps me sometimes...
      And thank you for Thomas sanders who introduced me to this.

    Panic attacks are terrifying. It's so weird. Your heart picks up, you can either or breath in or out, your vision starts getting dark, your body starts losing feeling. I had my first panic attack a little while ago. It was so scary and I nearly passed out. I have no idea why I didn't pass out but my mom (who also gets panic attacks) told me that she was surprised I didn't pass out but thank goodness I didn't. If you have panic attacks that okay just be careful and know how to help yourself if you get it.

    I also have anxiety and panic attacks and I should say the trigger warning is real. I watched this video earlier today and I just had a panic attack while I was at a 90 year old's birthday party. I was in no harm or I had nothing to be worried about but i guess even watching a video about panic attacks can tigger them. Our minds are very complicated. I hope this video helps people to understand more about anxiety and panic attacks.

    I struggle with social anxiety, and have just got out of my depression. I have only had a couple panic attacks and the way you described it made me feel so happy i guess? I just felt that it was great seeing that there was someone else feeling crazy. When i had mine i really didn't understand what was going on. i felt like i was in one of those movies where everything gets crazy zoomed out and blurry and silent. I find them to be so scary, and kinda like you it stops me from doing stuff that i really want to do. I know i should, and probably need to get help, but my social anxiety stops me from doing so. I dont want to waste people time, and i don't want to be needy. I am just scared they won't understand.

      Hey, it doesn't matter how often you have an attack, or how bad they are in comparison to others. If your anxiety is impairing your function in any way, you deserve help, and people will understand. It is better to go and talk to someone now, before it may get worse. Please don't worry that you are wasting a therapist or councilor's time, it is their job to listen and help. You are more than worth it. If you're still in school or college, you could seek out your school councilor or mental health center and make an appointment during a study or free period. There is also a lot of resources online and people who want to help to tide you over! Sending hugs 🤗💌. Let me know if you need or want to talk!

      You did ur first step here to admit that you have this problem. Thats a little step into the right direction. I myself suffered from panic attacks and social anxiety for nearly 4 years. The hardest step is to say that you need help and getting those help. And dont think that you waste time from other people. There are people out there to exactly help people with our kind of problem. And you will see how people who know you will get more respect for you because you took this hard step with your strengh alone. I can only encourage you to do it. I seeked help last year and now after this whole curing process i feel better and stronger than before i had this problem. Sending virtual hugs and strenght to overcome this anxiety.

    Something that really helped me was being told that the feelings of panic could not actually hurt me. Just acknowledge the feeling, and sometimes say out loud “Okay, I’m having a panic attack.” And just allowing the feeling to run its course instead of trying to fight it or stop it helped so much.

    Anxiety is no joke. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I spent hundreds of dollars on Dr's and getting an MRI done and going to Urgent care and then I discovered I had anxiety which they just wanted to put me on meds but I refused cuz side effects and dependency. I had anxiety and derealization which for about a month straight I felt I was disconnected from my body which is the trippiest feeling ever. I thought I was literally going insane. I pushed thru it and followed the linden method which is basically retraining that part of your brain "the amygdala" and teaching it was is normal again. It helped but I still suffer from anxiety here and there. Avoiding caffeine, working out, meditation all help me now. Although I occasionally have bad days I feel like I have my life back. I sympathize with all that have anxiety. I wish you guys the best! 💖 It's only temporary and remember to BREATHE! Breathing techniques help me immensely during an attack or an episode.

    I ignored the warning and I watched anyway. He described it so perfectly. That's almost exactly my experience. I don't find the try-to-force-a-panic-attack helpful, but I hope someone does. A big comfort for me during an attack is touching/playing with/rubbing a necklace that I always wear. It's a compass pendant, and the symbol means a lot to me so to have a physical reminder of that symbol (and so of resilience, patience, and hope) is very grounding. I could have just said "a grounding object" but I had to ramble for some reason.

    I have really bad panic attacks. It basically feels like you are in a box and that you can't move. You can hear voices but can't quite make out what they are saying. You feel like you are going to die. I had my first panic attack when I was 13. It's been over a year since my first panic attack and I am learning to control them. I usually have one or two a week. But seem to happen more in public than when I'm at home. I always seem to have the worst panic attacks at school.

    Thank you for making this video. I have seen other you tubers talk about their panic attacks but they were never relatable to my experience. However, your experience is so similar to mine. When I had my first panic attack I thought I was going crazy and had to spend the rest of my life in a mental institution. I remember crying to my mom and telling her that I thought I was going insane. Next thing, I made an appointment with my doctor and that saved me… he explained to me what anxiety and panic attacks were. He helped me to get the help I needed which was therapy. I found that NLP therapy had the best results. The anxiety was due to me not knowing how to cope with my father's death. But .. yeah.. Anthony, thank you so much for this video xoxo I agree talking to someone really helps when you are in the middle of a full on anxiety attack, it feels like a lifeline xoxo

    Hey Anthony, I wanted to thank you for this video. I suffered from major panic attacks all the time as a child, and from about 8th grade through to last year, I didn't suffer from any. And then last year, about 9 years after not having them anymore, I had one while I was out with friends at a bar in NYC. I've been having them more often again now, and it's been so frustrating and confusing for me, but this video really gives me hope. Seeing someone like you, who I look up to in so many ways, dealing with the same thing, and finding solutions while you are having the attack, is very inspiring. I hope you're able to find peace with your anxiety and the attacks that come with it, and that you continue to suffer fewer and fewer attacks (and hopefully, someday, none at all!)

    I had a panic attack once while I was at work and it felt like my brain just shut off, I couldn't think I was so confused about what was happening around me and eventually I had to run out of the room into our storage area, where a co worker followed me. He sat me down and just let me panic and tried to tell me corny jokes (because I was known for always laughing at them) and went to buy me water and chocolate. He had never seen anyone have a panic attack before but he stayed with me and helped anyway he could which really calmed me down and helped it stop. Panic attacks are so scary, but really having someone to just be there and make you seem like you aren't crazy makes such a world of difference.

    • @Skulexander
      @Skulexander 7 лет назад +11

      Adrenaline/anger/stress could very well have caused it. It also very well could have been a panic attack. It's entirely possible for anyone to get a panic attack. It's just that those of us with anxiety disorders have a chronic condition that causes us to get panic attacks very frequently and usually over things that don't warrant panic attacks. Since it only happened to your friend one time, I definitely wouldn't worry about it. If it's something that repeats, however, then I'd definitely have him see a doctor. It could be adrenaline, anger, stress, or panic, but it might also be an indication of an underlying medical problem. Again, I would only be cautious if it's something that repeats itself.

      And when I did this I talked to my mom and I said I think I'm having a heart attack and then it got better but I was trying to sleep from 10pm after a run to 4am w a final the next morning and the day after was a living hell

    my panic attack story:
    Hi I'm crystal and I've been riding bikes since I was three and I'm currently twelve years old,but when I was eight someone stole my bike after I got off it to help my mom with groceries, as I walked outside to get back on I saw her get on real quick and ride away,I has a panic attack I could barely breath it took a while for me to speak and be able to say what happened,our neighbors had security cameras that showed that a women was watching me for hours as I rode my bike ,waiting for me to get off ,my parents chased her down as I was panicking and the police figured out that her father owns a medal shop ,and she was going to use my bike for scrap medal ,I did get my bike back though :) ,thx for reading this ,it is 100% true and I won't forget it besides the fact that I don't remember what was going on because I was having a panic attack...

    Thank you for sharing your story. It definitely helps others going through it feel like they aren't crazy and like you said, talking about it definitely does help. My most recent panic attack was after trying not to have one in front of my daughter. I had to run off, work on myself, and try to recover so I could be a parent. The hardest thing was explaining to her why sometimes daddy gets scared and can't function. She associated it with being scared of snakes so apparently "daddy has snakes in his brain" but now she asks questions about it and understands it better than my family does or I ever did at that age. It has definitely helped control the attacks

    My first panic attack happened when I was 13. It was kinda similar to yours.
    Well, i was eating dinner at the dinner table by myself, for some reason, and out of no where I started feeling extremely nauseous. Okay I thought maybe I was experiencing this weird, extreme nausea that I get every few months, nothing new. But then my heart started racing and I started crying hysterically and sweating more then ever before. But It was cold sweat and I was freezing but at the same time extremely hot. Then my vision started to fade (this also happens to me a lot and I've almost blacked out because of it. I think it may be a result of this because it never happened before) and I got a sharp, stabbing pain in my fingertips. It went from my fingertips to my palms and eventually my arms felt like tiny needles were poking me. Then my arms went numb and I couldn't feel. I tried to get up and walk over to my parents to tell what was happening. Literally I couldn't walk straight and I couldn't speak because I was crying so much. I had to hold on the the wall to keep myself for falling and blacking out. It was the worst panic attack I've ever had. I've had other ones since but none have ever been this bad. The thing is, I was so confused on why this was happening. I wasn't even extremely stressed or depressed or anything. All i was stressed about was an up coming project that I procrastinated with. That's it. It was really the most terrifying thing that's happened to me. Mainly because it was so sudden and I had absolutely no control of anything. All I can say was it was bad, really bad

    Thank you for sharing your experiences because it's nice to know even someone as popular as you still has the struggles I face everyday, I've been having anxiety/panic attacks for around about 5 or so years now and every time I think it's gotten better I get a panic attack worse than I've ever had - I had one pretty recently and I couldn't breathe properly for around about 10/20 minutes, I was hyperventilating and crying and I just couldn't stop. I hope everyone dealing with this gets the help they need because it truly is the worst thing in my life

    I’ve been watching you since I first got on RUclips back in 2008 and was watching you and smosh grow til 2015 I believe then whenever you left I just didn’t enjoy the content as much so I stopped watching it. But I wanna say this video helped me out so much I deal with anxiety/panic attacks daily and I feel the same emotions as you would feel. That I feel like I’m going insane and that it’s never gonna go away. But watching this video really helped open my eyes to the fact that other people go through this as well and it may never go away but things get better over time. I just started dealing with these attacks a few months ago but it’s interesting cause I’m about the same age as you were when you said you started feeling them (the growth of the smosh channel)

    So im 12. Ive been getting really bad panick attacks every sunday at church. It all started when I randomly got a panick attack. I didnt want to tell my mom anything cuz she wouldnt understand how i felt. So the next sunday I went to church again. Everything was going great. But then I remembered about last time when I had a panick attack. So I started panicking and thinking what if this happened again??? So i got even more panicked and then I got a panick attack. My heart beating fast, shakey hands, dizzyness, like i was going to faint, hard to breath, wanting to cry. Like i was traped. But still didnt tell my mom anything. So every sunday i still go to church bc my mom makes me go to church every sunday. But I still get panick attacks bc i think of that time I got a panick attack and that leads to me having a panick attack Its been happening for like a month now. I just told my mom this week but all she said is "youll be fine" "its nothing" and "youre crazy" . But she just doesnt understand!!! I wish she knew what it felt like🙁 Idk what to do, and my mom wont let me skip church. help me😣

      If u get one again at church, just try to make a big scene out of it, it might be that your mom just doesn't realize how severe panic attacks are. at the very least, it's a church, which is supposed to be a safe and helpful place, so someone will probably support you :)

      Fluffy unicorn123 I went through the exact same thing at ur age. I was also raised in the church and I began to question my faith and why church was important at that time. It didn't help that I had an anxiety disorder that went undiagnosed until I was 23, so I heard the same things from my mom. Ur not crazy though. Having anxiety makes it a struggle to be in large crowds of people. A nurse friend taught me how to handle anxiety by tapping on my legs one at a time back and forth in a slow steady rhythm. Take death breaths in and out slowly as well. This gets ur brains neurons to balance back and forth instead of scattering around wildly. I don't know where u r in ur faith, but pray for God to help you. I have found anxiety, what I thought was a curse, to actually be a blessing in unusual ways. Remember, He never gives us anything we can't handle. And He never leaves us nor forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5&6)

      Fluffy unicorn123 also if you suffer from anxiety and/or panic attacks, the best thing to do is go see a councillor or doctor to be diagnosed and make sure that what you're experiencing is actually a panic attack. From there you can be prescribed medicine or therapy and it really helps 😉

    I'm really glad vou shared this. I have massive anxiety problems, and sometimes I struggle to keep myself calm. When I panic I cry until my brain feels there's no more to fear of. I often need stuff to focus to keep myself calm. When I was on high school I found Smosh, and the website and the forum was one of the things that kept my mind busy. I was a really active user and you replied to me once and I went to heaven that day! Now I'm 25, I have a master degree in Education and I teach Portuguese and Spanish. With never thought this was possible due to my problems. But once you acknowledge what problem you have and learn how to cope with it, the sky is your limit!

I started to sweat and my hands started shaking, My heart started to race and I started to cry. Im not sure what happened there, but everytime im in a place full of people i get Nervous, and always start to sweat. I almost just want to sit down in a corner and cover my face.

    I feel this so deeply. I've been plagued by panic attacks for about 4 years now and what you descibed is spot on for my severe ones. For a long time I couldn't drive because the worst ones would always happen on the road which was dangerous and thinking about that always escalated them within seconds. I got help for them, and although I used different methods of therapy, mine also became less frequent. You're absolutely right, though. The anxiety never really goes away. It just lessens. Thanks for making this video.
