Fucking hell. This video needs to be seen by every damn adult I've ever known. My entire family (especially extended) has always thought I was gay because I 1. Liked Superheroes more than Princesses and 2. Never talked to *them* about boys or showed off whatever boy I was talking to. It never made sense to me because who the hell wants to talk to their aunt or grandma about how thirsty they are for some guy at school? That's the shit you talk to your friends about. I am really glad you addressed this because i feel almost the same way. Everyday I wake up and try to dress a certain way to not be called gay or anything related to it. I also used to stereotype people based off the way they looked or call them gay. It until recently I figured out I like this boy and I’m not going to go out of my way to change my whole personality to seem “gay”. Gay doesn’t determine your lifestyle, it LITERALLY determines who you are attracted to. So in response of realizing I stopped and I may look “gay” to some people, or act “gay”, i stopped caring what anybody thought. I do believe it should come to an end and can live the way I want without being stereotyped to where I don’t wanna be the person I AM anymore.

Adults always said, "That's not very ladylike" to me when I was little, and I would reply, "I never claimed to be a lady." Even at like 5 years old, I'd get super sassy and confrontational about it. Fuck them. I don't have to be who you want me to be just to make yourself feel more comfortable about your narrow views in this world. The sad part is that it was almost always a woman who said that shit to me. Just like men telling little boys to "man up." This is how I’ve felt a large portion of my life. I’m a girl, but my favourite colour was always red, I liked playing cars with my brother, I liked playing video games, whenever we played “house” I always insisted on not being the sister, but rather the cat or dog (I’m not a furry lmao, not that it would matter if I was) I still liked things that were considered “girl things” too, like dolls, and I’ve always have long, thick hair that I liked to let my mum (who is a hairdresser) style, I even did beauty pageants for short time (I didn’t do glitz pageants like on TLC, and I was never forced to do anything lmao) but people couldn’t see past the part of me that liked less “girly” stuff. People thought I was weird and didn’t want to be my friend, I was bullied for it, and I was made to feel like I wasn’t valid. Literally as soon as people learned the word I was called gay. I was confused at what it meant at first, but as soon as I found out (and found out it’s negative connotations) I was upset. I knew I was straight, that I liked boys, I’ve had crushes multiple boys in my life, but these people constantly calling me names, calling me gay, it made me confused, and it upset me. It literally *gave* me an anxiety problem because I’d drive myself to the point where I felt sick worrying about what people thought of me, the way I looked to them, and eventually other things too.
It wasn’t until 2018 when I started to feel a lot better about all of it. I met my best friend, Jason. We were science partners and we quickly became close friends. As I got to know him more and more, and spent more time around him, I realised: he was a lot like me. He didn’t fit the typical gender stereotypes. He was a guy, and he liked some “typical boy” things like video games and stuff, but he also had some qualities that are considered “typical girl” things, he used to do dance, he was very soft spoken and sympathetic, and he cared a lot about the way he looked (like his hair and his clothes). I noticed people treated him like they did me, they constantly called him/asked is he was gay, even though he (and he told me on multiple occasions) was in fact straight. When I met him I realised that he didn’t let it get to him, he didn’t even care that they thought that about him, and that helped me to be more comfortable in my own skin. I realised that my interests and hobbies do not at all define my gender or my sexuality. And when I found your channel you reinforced that realisation.

I spent my whole life caring what others think. Just a few months ago I told my family and some friends that I'm gay. I just want to be me, just as you said! In fact Smosh was a big part of helping me to see that I am normal and it's okay to be yourself. Just be ourselves and let others be themselves will make the world the bees knees! Anthony, this is so meaningful, and so well-said. I've only recently gotten into your videos (sorry!), but I'm loving them. And as someone who's just recently started identifying as non-binary, I've been thinking a ton lately about all the things you talk about in this video. Whether we identify as straight or gay, cis or otherwise, I think that the way societal norms of masculinity expect so much of us - pressuring us to not have a purple lunchbox, to not be sensitive or emotional, to not walk a certain way, to not stand or sit a certain way - it's so restrictive, and so exhausting.
Thank you for sharing and talking about this, and for, as always, articulating these things as beautifully as you do.

Pansexual is basically the same thing as bi, so I don't count that as being real. Dating based on personality and not gender (pansexuality) is basically the same thing as being bisexual. Besides pansexuality, I honestly can't think of any other sexual orientation that falls under "etc".
