Failed Projects, Upcoming projects and Lair Tour

  • Some behind the scenes on some projects that have failed, some projects that are still in progress, some projects that are upcoming. I think there's some important conversations that can be had about failure, perfectionism, loss of creative confidence etc. Maybe I'll try and make a video dedicated to that soon. But anyways, I am looking forward to the projects I've shown, hope you are too!

Please, please, please, whatever you do, DO NOT GET RID OF your "Krampus", or your "Kajiit", (I hope I spelled that right), v#1. Simply place them, (individually), into black bags & put them out of direct sight for awhile. Leave them alone and re-approach their builds later. What has happened is you've been focused too hard on them, & lost the forest through the trees, essentially. Give yourself a break, & concentrate on other creations for now. Then, pull them out some other time, and you'll have a better perspective of their potential. And, these DO have LOTS of! You're just burnt out on them, currently. Give yourself a break! 😁 You WILL make them work out. It just won't be right this moment. They will still be there when you're finally ready to tackle them again.

You're absolutely right, and I have put them away to where I can't see. It felt good to give myself permission to walk away from the project though, admitting defeat for now so it wouldn't keep bearing down on me. I feel like I'm in a much better space creatively now then when I made this video. I hope I can rock them when I find that spark again, I really appreciate you taking your time to comment, thank you! Burnout sucks

@@KazplayVideos It happens to ALL of us, sooner or later. But, by NO means did you fail!!! Everybody has physical limitations. Once you've recharged mentally & physically, you'll tackle these projects again. And, while you may not be conscious of it, in the back of your mind, you'll continue to analyze these projects. And, studying how to make them work. When you finally return to them, the answers will become clear to you. (I hope that makes sense.)
Your other projects, that you will work on instead, for now, will solve the problems that plagued you with your temporarily shelved projects. This will give you the "Eureka!!!" moment(s) you need most! Just don't force it. Let the inspiration come to you in the natural time it takes. It will come. Trust me. Besides, these projects weren't commissions, their deadlines are set by you alone. So, you have plenty of time. 😜

One summer in August, I got really inspired to do a full Skyrim frost dragon Halloween costume for my son. I had NO idea what I was doing, engineering wise, and pretty much threw things together to see what would stick. I had vision and did a lot of research here and knew it was possible. There were SOME setbacks where I had to undo and redo some steps and I really had to budget my time and focus. I was on a very tight budget and mostly used a lot of scrap foam putting it together. I had to expand on using new materials and techniques. I had never used EVA foam. Costuming is MUCH more difficult than just straight up sculpting. I didn't want my boy to have to suffer a lot of discomfort wearing this thing. He was a real trooper and really played up the costume. His enthusiasm really kept me going. Some day your daughter will enjoy your creations as well, I'm sure. Keep up the great work!!

@@MsWolf2011 I did exactly that with the costume, I simply made a PVC frame and posted the Dragon costume over my son's headboard with it's wings arched over like a canopy. Krampus is such a cutie, and seeing his "bones" gives me a lot of inspiration to continue working on my kaiju. I have a lot of the same out-of-steamage as well, as I go off my own concepts as well. It's super easy to get ahead of yourself in wanting to make the thing before getting the concept out on paper, which is what I'm trying to correct currently. It's stress-y, but I know it will help in the long run. I believe in you Kaz!!!

I so strongly appreciate this video for so many reasons. I'm a big fan of how your Krampus mask is turning out and I would love to see it completed (I've been wanting to do a Krampus mask for YEARS and just plain haven't), but please don't feel pressured to complete it just for the sake of an internet stranger! Sometimes it's worth trucking along on a project through the ugly phase, and sometimes it's just plain not. I have a mask I've been sitting on for a while that I haven't made progress on for months because I keep looking at it and thinking about how I can do better. I wouldn't blame you at all for scrapping the Krampus and trying again when you get your confidence back. I'm totally in the same boat where I've discovered that I'm not as skilled as I once thought and really need something to lift me out of that all-too-familiar rut of discouragement.
Just know that I'm forever a fan of your work and I'm excited to see anything and everything you make in the future! I'm rooting for you!

I really really like the Khajiit one! It's going to sound really weird, but I don't think it's a failure even looking at how it is right now. Maybe not as a Khajiit mask, but it looks kinda like an inspired wooden mask from a tribe or something. It has nice shape and a stylized view. Apologies if you've been asked this before, what's that tape/fabric stuff you used around the eye (from the outside) on the krampus mask? And with that, is your moving jaw pivot like a metal rivet or something?
