This performance is really something special...the entire band as we knew it, including Brian. Losing Dennis was a huge shock but the passing of Carl was basically the end. The Beach Boys without Carl is NOT the Beach Boys. Carl was really the heart and soul of the band. Anyway, the album version of Good Vibrations is basically three minutes thirty-five seconds of pure bliss and perfection. I think Brian called it a mini-symphony. Something like that only happens once in a lifetime and it's complete perfection. Thanks for posting this video! It was absolutely wonderful watching all the guys together again.
AT 0:35, Brian gives Mike Love stinkeye for his hamming it up and not respecting the meter and vocal blend of Brian's perfect masterpiece. Brian was right.
@@gamma1695if you know the history, yes, Brian was giving Mike the stinkeye for, once again in their 18 year history at this point, being a horse's a**.
This was a real awesome night on the Midnight Special, having the Beach Boys. This was a musical treat . This was the best time of my life growing up listening 🎶 to the best music 🎶 🎵 ever.
I love this song. Loved it as a teen when it was fresh on the radio but didn't really appreciate the intricate vocal harmonies until I listened closely with a good pair of headphones. Not an easy arrangement to do live, either.
I love this so much, but let's talk about how Brian Wilson looks like he would rather be anywhere else on earth than right there and how he's often staring daggers into Mike Love and Mike Love is often staring daggers back... oh, and let's also talk about the dork with the visor.
Bahahaha - his package was rocking! I saw similar pants on Mick Ronson w/Bowie. Shoulder pads for dick! Dead laughing… I couldn’t take my eyes off him; I was kinda pissed he distracted me 😂
Brian always hated when Mike hams up the songs when they play live. Mike likes to draw attention to himself by finger pointing and hand gesturing, just pisses Brian off.
"Rather"? Brian was anywhere on Earth but here. His brain was gone in the late 70s... Mike probably did forced him to do this because Brian only worked that way at this period.
@@rafaelsale6364Sugar pie, *Brian wasn't mentaIIy there.* This video is from 79, Brian was a mess. Plus Brian rarely performed live with the band since the late 60s, like it or not, Mike, Al, Carl and Dennis carried the band back then.
You mean the part where he is singing perfect lead, or the part where he is laying solid rhythm while singing, or the part where he is nailing harmonies?
what a treat, Brian and the Beach Boys sounding better than any Brian Wilson Band or Beach Boy Band of today. Carl is so excellent and Dennis is playing great
At least Brian’s there- kinda. Always a treat to see Dennis on the drums and irreplaceable Carl. Mike his always obnoxious self. But it is one of the last looks at THE Beach Boys.
Amazing upload! No disrespect to The Beach Boys, their musical impact cannot be overstated. But the ironic thing about this song and performance is the vibrations are definitely not “good” in any way whatsoever lol! This music is a terrifying clown show, demented and creepy.
I appreciate the music now, but in 1979 NOBODY listened to the Beach Boys. I mean, you can tell that the kids in the crowd were not into this...lol! It's like, in '79, who are these old people and what is this music?
@@loraa3873 And Classic Rock, of course. The Beach Boys, however, were like Bubblegum Rock from the mid-60s. They were WAY out of style by 1979 standard.
This may not be politically correct, but it looks like Zach Galifanakis based his Between 2 Ferns and Hangover look and mannerisms off of Brian Wilson here.
Love so much that Dennis and Carl were there, but I know there was so much drug infueled insanity at this time, too. Never a fan of Mike (sorry for those who are). Still a great performance and snapshot.
Wow. All of the original Beach Boys, including Dennis on drums. What a treasure!
@ronaldolaquidara64 Brian's on the organ on the right side of the stage next to Carl. Carl sang lead vocals on the original recording too!
@ronaldolaquidara64Brian rarely performed live with the band since the late 60s... plus here (79) he was already too far gone to handle lead vocals.
He wasn’t too far gone to sing at this time. He did sing lead live vocals in ‘79-80 and sounded pretty good at the time.
@@subg8858yes correct this person, Brian could sing better than anyone, even through his mental illness
Denny was ALWAYS there. Brian is the GOLD!
Ohhh, Carl. You were so special. That voice and those warm eyes. ♥️ Denny is missed so much, too. ♥️

I was a child in the 70s and mom had beachboys and Beatles albums, I remember discovering this song, and it was like an eargasm every time 😂😂
We are lucky!
Cool to see Napoleon Dynamite on bass !
I thought the same thing.
Ed Carter. Lol.
I love The Beach Boys since 1964 ! Happy Tuesday May 23rd 2023 !
It is a happy good vibration Tuesday here in upstate New York

Brian was right.
You read all that from Brian just looking over in Mike's direction? A glance from Brian and you read his thoughts? Amazing
Wow, guy is a mind reader. Your talents are being wasted commenting on a RUclips video.
Brian was probably thinking about anything else but what where he was at. He wasn’t really ready for live performance at this time.

Sad to see Brian during these periods where they just had to sit him in the corner.

Carl had the voice of an angel
Yep. The only one that could do justice to God Only Knows.
Please upload the temptations! They performed “Struck By Lightning Twice” and that song has never been seen live online
It's from "The best of the Midnight Special" that aired on VH-1 back in the '90's. I hope the master copy of it is ok.
Yeah I noticed that too

Jesus. When they hit the 2nd verse, and the geezer dancing in the red top walked up the steps.... He nearly had my eye out..
Brian wearing 'Help me Rhonda" shirt❤❤❤
Angel Come Home next please 🥺
The Beard Boys.
Still America's band!
Best “Bridge”
In my own opinion the structure of Good Vibrations of Brian Wilson was an inspiration for Freddie Mercury for Bohemian Rhapsody.
Never thought about it before but that's actually a great point.
Like "A Day in The Life" from Beatles
I'd love to hear the story behind this gig!
Good to see Brian there
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I never could imagine a BBs show that year but as i always says 1979 was the first of the best triennium in rock history..
Why did Mike Love have to turn every amazing song into "I'm a Little Teapot?"
😂

The whole video Brian is throwing daggers at Mike and Mike keeps egging him on. At least Mike doesn’t throw a piano stool at him.
How on Earth did the voice of Mike Love EVER deserve to be on a Beach Boy recording?
He was part of the harmony so i vehemently disagree

Mike Love....what a waste. Musically not bad, considering none of them played on the studio recording. Except maybe Brian.
Carl played bass on the studio recording
Love them and this aong but this really low energy.
Mike Love sucks!!
