December 7, 1979 put this on my turntable; listened intentionally and got in my car. Picked up my girl, proposed and we were married 30 years until she passed away. It's a truly special song for me.
My sincere's condolences for your wife who has passed away, I am very, deeply sorry for you, theses wonders of songs, and melodies are striking, memorableds, and are unforgettabled, due to some event, some moment that someone lived, they's are memories of some fact, theys are evidence that happened, what happened in our lives and music is the gates that opens and that leads us, carries us, transports us to nostalgia, nostalgic feelings, nostalgia it has the power, the strength to teleport you to times, decades distant, far away, and listening to theses songs it's as if you were experiencing everything you experienced again!!!. The music has this strength, this power, this essence of taking us to other's times, I say this because it happens to me every day when I listen to my old songs, I tell it from experience!!!.
@@sydwhitaker5776 Pet Sounds is superior musically but my God... that voice Brian. On Today that vocal tone he sings in is simply angelic. Like sweet butter.
My favourite line from this song - "for so long I've thought about it and now I just can't live without it, this beautiful image I have of you." - my words to describe my love for Brian and how his voice helps me through this tough stage in life, where I feel left out and that no one wants to care about me :( Bless you Brian and thank you!
Beautiful teenage angst song. It's on Spirit of America albumtoo released 1976 around US Bicentennial time... This and "Don't Back Down" I always felt underrated BB songs... More people need to listen to lyrics of this song.. Amazing for someone in early 20's-- compare to todays' "early 20 year old"....
@@matttarpley9247 I agree, it's my favorite too! Brian suffered terribly from Murray's (his azzhole father) constant physical and verbal abuse to the point where he lost himself. While we can hear Brian's tender heart in this song, the pain had not manifested (completely) within him yet -but it was there, growing like cancer. Murray Wilson was a fkn monster, but with time (and, I believe, God's blessing) Brian finally overcame the beast - but he's got some serious battle scars...
I I remember hearing this song at a church dance at age 12 in 1965. I thought it was beautiful. It wasn't until maybe three or four years later that I found out it was a Beach Boys song.
@@markh.2899 When Murry sold the rights to all Brian's first big hits it was the final blow to the brothers, as far as what they felt toward their father was concerned. I think Carl said something to the effect to their father, "Those songs are like Brians' children" and Dennis said "Oh, he loves US, he just doesn't love rock and roll"! What a jab to the heart that moment must have been. A lot of Dennis' problem was his father's complete rejection of him, although he was the one who had so many great ideas for Brian and encouraged him to stand his ground with their dad. He was an incredible talent on the drums considering he taught himself. All the brothers were amazingly gifted.
Who would have ever dreamed Brian would outlive both of his brothers. I guess Denny being the wild one it's not a shock he died first, but given everything Brian has been through it is great to see him still performing.

This video never gets old, listen to how sweet Brian sounds on this song. In my opinion, he had the most beautiful voice in Pop music during that time. Also his falsetto was absolutely epic, the best I’ve ever heard. This is absolutely no cut to him but when you watch and listen to all the footage of Brian Wilson from the 1960’s and what he’s like today, it’s like two completely different people. I know that we obviously change somewhat as we get older, but when I watch and hear Brian today, I try to find some kind of remnants in there somewhere but can’t. I know he’s had his struggles like the rest of us, but the change seems so drastic.
The funny thing is that if you watch enough videos you’ll find one a recent one where he still brings it and sounds the same as he did 50 years ago. Not very often I’ll admit, but on occasion.
what a beautiful song definitely one of my favorites. So much talent in one man and the voice of an angel. Its sad to think what Brian could have done if he had not had so many issues in his life. Look at the sweetness in his smile.

The Beach Boys' have given the world some of the most exquisite ballads in pop/rock music: "Please Let Me Wonder", "In The Back of My Mind", "Lonely Sea", "Don't Talk", "The Nearest Faraway Place", "My Diane", "Lady Lynda", "Keep An Eye on Summer", "In My Room", "Your Summer Dream", "Kiss Me Baby", and of course, "Surfer Girl".

I saw them 3 times in my life "live", and always faultless in their singing. The sheer blend of voices/harmonies make the hair stand up on your neck at times. Almost spiritual to be honest or out of this world...

At this point Brian is no longer touring with the group because of the pressures of having to be not just the main writer but also producer and arranger, his live appearances were limited to tv shows, and there were a lot of variety shows in those days, so between the nervous breakdown and pet sounds, there are a lot of BB performances with Brian...
