    Lyrics:
It’s getting harder for me to be alright
    Eyes adjusting to the dark
The momentum of all these last resorts
    Built inside of me
I always believed there was a way
To get out of end times
Everything I was or said I am
    Breaking inside of me
I hope you’ll think of me one day
    But even in my dreams
    I wasn’t good to you
I know I’ll fall apart someday
    But even in my dreams
    I’ve always avoided you
I see a rose and feel disdain
The adoration and boredom of it
All the tired repose that it gives
    Dead and meaningless
I don’t wanna be bitter anymore
    Bitterness is the sin
I wanna be soft and innocent
    Soft as any palm
I hope you’ll think of me one day
    But even in my dreams
    I wasn’t good to you
I know I’ll fall apart someday
    But even in my dreams
    I never trusted you
    Just got into town
I passed by your house last night
    No light
Don’t ever come back to me
    Never
I’ve gone my whole life looking for something to love
    I can’t find that thing
    To love
Please turn away the bad thing

A powerful, masterfully crafted track that packs a soothing punch. Stylistically different. Full of subtle dynamics dancing on a powerhouse of a rhythm section. Love it.

I remember hearing them when they played super-fast gnarly hardcore. I'm as much a fan of post punk, goth, and new wave as I am of heavy music, but this transformation is still kinda out there. great band no matter what they play though. L-Shaped Man is a great record and this is a pretty great track as well.

@Brad Opizzi Yes, sir, I have. I like it, but I'll admit it's been awhile, so I'm definitely going to go back and revisit it. I remember reading Ross Farrar saying that the demos were "the intended versions", which surprised me. Saying it's better than Rohnert Park is some serious praise too :)

CEREMONY make their Relapse Records debut with their highly ambitious new album, 'In the Spirit World Now'! The album sees CEREMONY at the height of their creative output, as the always-evolving Rohnert Park quintet take various influences from post punk and rock to create one of the summer's most compelling and infectious records.
"In the Spirit World Now" is full of layered sonic fury and anxiety, each song building up to a point and then descending down through a militant, catchy hook. “Turn Away the Bad Thing” sets the tone, guitars climbing around the driving bass line, as Ross Farrar sings, “It’s getting harder for me to be alright/Eyes adjusting to the dark/The momentum of all these last resorts built inside of me.” Songs like “Presaging the End” and “Calming Water” feel romantic and distressed, while “Further I Was” and “Years of Love” are driven by Farrar’s rebellious energy as he repeats the hook with a deadpan realness. “Years of love can be forgotten/In the hatred of a day.” But the true stand-out is the title track, “In the Spirit World Now”, a haunting pop gem with a sticky chorus and lead synth riff that plants itself in your head as Farrar chants the track’s name over and over like a mantra.
“In the Spirit World Now" is a sort of nebulous and ectoplasmic place where things may not be quite what they seem,” he says. “It means sh*t is about to get weird.” The album marks a milestone for this Northern California punk outfit who have stayed true to themselves as songwriters throughout massive sonic growth throughout their storied career.

Actually This is Hardcore was a bit better, me and my friends from Canada almost got killed by FSU cause my buddy stole from the house we were staying at in Philly. I ratted his ass out when getting interrogated. I had no clue he stole anything, but I knew he would be the only one that would steal, and he stayed at the house when we all went for breakfast. When we finally found him he forked up the stolen cash and was mad I ratted him but the people that let us stay at their house were better people and I'm not going to stick up for some shady fucker who leaves me to take the blame anyway.

Song is pretty good and I really dig both old/new Ceremony but this video is like watching a commercial for some idiotic hipster brand. Feels fake. Yuck.

Just put this album in the bin with polvo’s celebrate the new dark age , bad brains into the future, and pretty much anything by shudder to think,,, way ahead of its time... the naysayers will say “ahead of its time?? It sounds like 80s new wave synth pop” and will only respond with “In the spirit world now”.

Seems like music that only people who spend 6 dollars on a cup of tea would listen to. Gross
