Is it the 2000 twin turbo charged A6, or perhaps the next generation 2005 normally aspirated A6, or is it the brand new and supercharged 2012 A6 Quattro? Just for fun we decided to find out by drag racing the last three generations of the Audi A6 Quattro in our TFLcar Nose to Tush Drag Race. Check out to see how your favorite Audi A6 did in this fun video.
This is a horrible style for racing. How are you supposed to expect the car in the back to stand a chance of catching the front car, especially since it starts after the first is gone..

Nate White ; You are 100% correct. The front car puts the hammer down drop on the rear car and is spooling up and gone before the rear car can begin it’s journey. A solid 1/2 second advantage for the car in the rear

My 2.7t 2005 6speed manual allroad with ko4's dyno tuned would definitely have dominated this group. Wouldn't trade it for anything less than an rs6 avant !

I don't particularly love them either (reliability etc) but they can be super impressive
Give the headlights some wet sanding and polish, and the engine som speed parts, and that C5 A6 2.7T quattro will be FLYING!

RS4 or Frankenturbos, IC upgrade, exhaust and a tune. You will be looking at closer to twice the stock numbers I think :)
With ko4s upgraded downpipes, cold air intake and upgraded fueling system with a 6 speed you are looking at a little over Or just shy of 400 hp at the wheels so about 420 at the crank.
that 2005 Audi looks and probably drives better than cars on the road today that can never be out dated
@FrancineRA1970 Thanks for your kind words and smart comments. We like the idea of a timed run (and we of course love and enjoy traditional drag races) however sometimes because of time or budget that's just not possible. We had access to the two older cars only for a few hours over lunch (they are daily drivers) and so it was impossible stage a traditional and legal drag race.
Just a software upgrade on the 2.7T will easily keep up with the 3.0T stock. I have both so I speak from experience.

Lol, one of the main points of phasing out the 2.7 biturbo for the NA 3.1L was that the new one would make more power without the turbos. Pointless races.
@stewardlie If the second car is faster, we just do it again and reverse the order. So far that hasn't happened.
You guy's commenting need to lighten up a bit. These guys bring the humorous side out of car reviews as opposed to the other serious based reviews.
The racing idea is great; The mountain racing scene (Touge racing) in Japan uses a similar style as roads are too narrow for side by side starts. But on a public road, you're going to need to push the cars harder to exploit their true potential.
I personally like the looks of the 05 with the facelift in 08. The new one feels the styling studio was conflicted to use more angular lines vs curvy lines. I'm also not a fan of the 'cut-off' headlamps, though the LED integrations is Audi's finest.

You needed to use the 2000 4.2l A6 or a C6 4.2 A6 to show the 2012 what actually is up.
The supercharged V6 in the 2012 (C7) Audi A6 replaces the naturally aspirated 4.2 V8 in the (C6) audi A6 . This would be a cool comparison.
why not the 3.0 tdi with 313ps vs the a6 with the 4.2 engine?

ok dont missunderstand me cause i am a BIG audi fan but i want to see this a6 superchrget against a bmw 5 series that is even closer the a6 in hp and 0.60 mph than the 5 series u tried. i want to make a fair race between those to thats all.
@romanmicagearguy it didn't happen beacause you compare cars with similar power,but the car in front always gets the head up start even if the other car is faster,it can't make it.....don't put me in the youtube trolls list,just think about it....
The A6 is now the best its ever been... but sadly the 2000 A6 could still be had with a stick shift.... but no longer. carmakers are making cars too automated now.

@blackseries99 yea, and like they said in the last vid, its 400 lbs lighter than the 535i, plus the 535 is less powerful. I'm sure it'll beat the E350 even harder.
I owned a 2003 A6 2.7T S-line. Loved that car, but after owning two BMW 5 series since, I am returning to Audi and getting an A6 3.0T Prestige.

i have a 1999 audi a6 2.4 v6 and im pretty sure the gearbox has just failed completely...
The driver in the C5 just seems like he doesn't really know how to get a Quattro off the line. C5 with K04s and a small tune pulls 400+ hp easy
To silence the moaners, why didn't they just reverse the starting order in every race to prove the 2012 lead car was indeed faster, and could catch up with the others?!

Not a hater, but the previous A6 version looks 'better' suited for the range than the new one (which is identical to all the new models). Nevertheless, E class FTW!

@xdragosx - as long as both cars start at the same time - the car in the back has the advantage.... because the car in front pushes the air out of the way and so they are in the draft.... just like when racing on a race track.

@techdude6693 - Thats the one reason. It weighs 4,175lbs almost same as Camaro yet it does 0-60 in 5.2. That is like prev S6 with V10 numbers.
I would have cried if the M50 didn't keep up! I love Audi but it can't hold a candle to Infiniti's stellar reliability and longevity!

I like it that you guys try different things and keep the things that work. It looks like most of these people want a rehgular drag race. I think you should do both. Maybe you could do a timed run over a certain distance too? The end was hilarious!

Do you have the vin for that a6? I think my friend now owns that car, carfax puts it in Colorado at that time and manuals for those a6 2.7ts are rare

Since the A6 3.0 is the most powerful engine without going S or RS6, why not use A 4.2L version of the last gen? that seems to be a bit more evenly matched.
Why? Because no "Latest" Audi A64.2 exists.
