Wow, never expected to see Slovenian Julian Alps on your channel :) Even thought I'm from neighboring Croatia, I've been hiking in Julian Alps since I was 16 (47 now). I've summited Triglav 11 times so far and climbed all the major peaks there, some close to 10 times, so I feel like at home there. That's why it was so nice to see familiar vistas and trails of Julian Alps through your lens, beautiful shots! 😍Crazy to see how much distance you can cover 👌Can't wait for the full 90 minutes movie! :)

What a beautiful hidden gem. It’s like you were whisked into a fairytale land and given the gift of running and walking in the most beautiful terrain and challenging courses. Closest I’ve come to granite climbing like that is Maine USA. So fortunate!!

this one was a lot of work to plan and required some research, but typically we hear about different areas from friends.
Dear Jeff and Audree, as the guy on the top of Mt. Triglav said, you are now true Slovenians 😀 You should recieve a free butt spanking as a part of our tradition 🤣 Thank you kindly for a very beautiful video of our country. You did a remarkable tour around Triglav national park, congrats on that. And a huge respect for a proper pronounciaton of our towns, villages and mountains. You have really mastered that. 👍Have a safe trip back home and the best of luck at Moab.
Great movie 😊 I was in Slovenia just 3 weeks ago but I didn't hike in hight mountains so that could be good argument to visit this beautifull country again 😅 I saw Bled and Bohin Lake, Lublana and run in Kranjska Gora by amazing Julian Alps Trail Run by UTMB😉 I can recomend you that running festival , they have distance from 10 to 170 km so You can find somethink interesting 😉
I love Slovenia and Ljubljana specifically. It has all the most beautiful parts of Europe in one place. And the gelato is delicious 😅

Nice catch...but that looked more like a legless lizard or Slow worm.
It was a snake, yep! It was crossing from the other side of the path but I didn’t get my camera setup in time 🙄
trust me i wasn't all that 'casual' about it!
99% that is not a snake, so nothing to be scared of there... judging by the chunky tail, color consistency and slow movement that is a lizard called Navadni Slepec in Slovenian or Slow Worm in English.@@audreelafreniere2258
No way ! I was there at the same time! Ironically, on my last MTB adventure before realising I had a broken wrist..... and now a runner! I'll have to look back in my photos to see if you have photobombed them!
you came pretty close to my hometown just over the mountin from kranjska gora in carinthia(austria). you might want to check out the 750km long alpe adria trail wich goes from the highest peak in austria all the way to the adriatic sea. you should have come by some of the waymarkers in the kranjska gora area.

Triglav National Park is beautiful! I went hiking there in 2019. Especially the 7-lakes-trail down to Lake Bohinj and the high trail south of it were awesome!
And now for the last 2 years I have been living about 2 hours away in the Austrian Alps. So a belated WELCOME to my neck of the woods, I guess? 😉

Definitely. In fact, I think a lot of people from Switzerland, Germany and Austria vacation there for that reason.

I was caught by the storm of a lifetime when climbing Triglav decades ago. I'll never forget descending with the impressive lightening, in the dark. We had to turn back before the summit, because of the lightening. It was pure adrenaline. Things that happen when you're very inexperienced.
Not a place I’d want to be caught in a storm! That must have been intense.
Can't thank you enough for these videos. Living in Europe myself and wouldn't even know about some of these awesome places without you guys. I've already fell in love with Annecy and I haven't even been there. Seen your videos from there just "couple" times! And so many other awesome places you two have shown us!
Did you book the refugees in advance or did you just went there?
We booked everything just 2-3 weeks in advance.

Oooohhh you were close to me and in "my" mountains (but I live on the other side of the border)🙂 Julian Alps are wild and wonderful... well, Triglav is really popular in Slovenia and is always full of people in summer, but anyway.. really nice! I was there last year in august, just a day hike fast up and down, I also love fast packing (but am not as fast as you 🙂). I'm happy you enjoyed it
While watching the video I say to myself:"Whoaw, that is beautiful place, I should go there one day." And immediately after that:"Wait, it is in Slovenia, in the Alps, you were there many times!" ... And that is how good moviemaker you are Jeff:-)))

Great video as always, thanks! Would be interested to get your thoughts on the Outdoor Vitals gear, particularly the Skyline Fastpack 30L. Wondering if it would be a good choice for multi-day race like Tor Des Geants where a bigger pack might be required.
It might be a little big for TOR. I think I used a 22L pack there. Skyline 30 will be my go to for any wild camping though where I’m carrying a bivvy or lightweight tent.
Thanks a lot. I noted that Audree used the UD 20L which also seems to be pretty popular, though I have seen some concerns about the side zipper and weight. Would also be interested to hear any impressions she had. Overall, it seems pretty difficult to find a suitable race pack that has a running harness that can carry 500ml soft flasks, is not to heavy, with adequate storage in the front and in the main pack for longer races. Seems like the Salomon XA 22L is very difficult to find now...anyway, appreciate all the gear tips on top of the excellent vids.
I had used one called the Salomon Slab Peal 20 (actually 22L) which is unfortunately no longer available. That was the perfect pack for the job!

Wow Jeff didn't expect to see you in Slovenia! Maybe check out the neighborhood, we have some nice trail running on the islands here in Croatia in the off season (Krk, Rab, Pag).

@@JeffPelletier Nice! I'd also recommend checking out North Velebit National Park if you're ever in Croatia. By far the most beautiful national park and mountain range in the country, and almost totally empty of people.

Such a lovely film. We were on holiday in Slovenia, we stayed in Bled , I think about the same time as you because it was the week after the floods. We hiked up Mount Sija and Mount Vogel with our kids (from your movie it looked like you were there at the end of your 4 day fast-pack), such amazing views! We also went each day on early-morning runs doing a few loops round Lake Bled, each loop is a very easy runnable path of around 6km with lovely views of the lake the whole way.
Sounds like a great family trip! Yep, we hiked Mount Vogel on the morning of our last day on the trail.

Nice video. :) Look into the Via Adriatica trail in Croatia. It's roughly a 1000km trail. You guys might find it interesting and also a nice way to see the beautiful nature Croatia has to offer.

Amazing as ever Jeff, but what is going on with the whole animal thing - earlier in the year you left Audree behind as you sprinted away from a bear, and this time you put her in front to tackle the angry Slovenian cows, I'm starting to get worried about what is coming in the future, I'm sure there are wolves in the Pyrenees...!

It was just a friendly cow wanting a pet (although maybe not and I wouldn't have waited to find out either!). Made me want to go to Slovenia but that fastpack trip looks way out of my comfort zone! Stunning but really technical!
It was quite technical. I’d highly recommend the Juliana Trail as a more accessible option. It looks to run through valleys and towns around the perimeter of the park, but would still give you amazing views.

I've just come back from the Alps and had planned to go back next year for TMB but think I might look at the Tour du Beaufortain instead. I'd done part of the Tour du Pays du Mont Blanc and that was stunning.@@JeffPelletier
Great videos Jeff! I’m a huge fan! You and Audree have inspired me to take up trail running. I’m kind of a noob and could use some tips on the best way to secure trekking poles to a hydration vest. I’m not sure if some of them come with a pouch built in, or if it’s something that I need to rig up myself?

Jeff, do you have a map or more detailed info about the specific route you and Audrée did on this trip? Also, any tips on resources you used to research and plan this trip? I'm going to be in Austria and possibly Slovenia in July and am keen to do some hiking & trail running there. Thanks!
There is an official Slovenian Mountain Trail. This video shows part of the trail. I'm sure you can find videos of it on youtube and judge which parts of the trail are suitable for you. Some parts are great for running, some are via ferrata climbing and can be quite challenging. Here they started the climb on Triglav from Vrata valley on the Čez Prag trail, then there is Krn mountain(WW1 front) and then they followed the official trail on the southern ridge of the Julian alps all the way to the top of Črna Prst. The part where the aggressive cows are is the trail from Kranjska Gora to Vršič Pass.

we wore trail running shoes and they were totally appropriate for the terrain :)
