I love Killians' attitude, he doesn't appear to allow ego to determine what projects he does. He could turn up to UTMB every year and be the superstar but he choices the road less travelled and always looks for new ways to grow, physically, mentally and spiritually, thats cool.
Jornet. - has a VO2 max of 92ml. (One of the highest ever recorded). Most olimpic athletes have 75-85. - and resting heart rate of 32. (Only ones who got lower are few top cyclists). Going up to a max of 205. So he is not just a top athlete. He is someone with the best parameters in history by a big margin. And someone who is pushing far from what humans could do.
@@ln5747 your red blood cell count absolutely affects your vo2max. Oxygen carrying capacity right. Also, recovery has critical impact. Being able to do big blocks of trainings, like 30 to 40 weeks increases vascularity, blood volume, mitochondrial density and size. All this increases vo2max. Stringing consecutive big days together is huge. Does utmb even test anyone?? You see
GTN interviewer was still talking in complete sentences despite pulse of 188 - so according to RPE scale we've been preached over and over he was still in zone 2?
Great video and really nice to see your different puls and how effective he run . And we all know that Mark is a really good runner. A different perspective. So happy for you to have him as guest.
probably one of the best interview i've ever seen, Kilian Jornet is the real GOAT and you did really well, there was no stupid question and even if i'm a big fan and i knew a lot of things about Kilian, i still have learn a lot !
Good advice about downhill running. Pick your line and commit. Lightness of stride is achievable on rough terrain. I hike in the white mts of northern nh usa. Slab, cobble and loose rock. Once you hit a rhythm you can really haul. Hes right about ankle strength for sure.
A couple of days ago Kilian ran a marathon with 2000m of elevation gain in sub-3, then waited like three hours and went out to do a 30km bike ride in an hour. His Strava is hilarious, because it really puts your workouts into perspective :p
Kilian has summited Everest twice within 5 days, without supplemental oxygen. and climbed two other 8,000 meters within 3 weeks, oh and he had food poisoning.
I can't help but feel that Kilian's HR is only going up because he is talking... Well done you for managing to ask some questions despite the HR! also didnt realise it wasnt just me that had watery eyes on downhill so that's also good to know!
He is not only an elite.. he is the top of the elites by quite a big margin. So, even an elite compared to him would look weak... lol But congrats on the interview. Just being fit enough to be able to train with him is amazing.
'look far ahead n try remember what coming to your feet' tips seems similar like skiing n snowboarding. we dont look down to feet as we need to pay attention ahead where we are going 🤔
Mark: ‘So how much of that is actually running?’ Killian: ‘40-80km per week so basically nothing’ And there was me thinking my 75km per week of running was a strong effort 😭
Wonderful video, really enjoyable.. Im curious though towards the session, could someone explain please - I mean, was it climbing for 20min followed by decent for 15? And then repeat or did I miss something. I recon it would be good workout at the gym
Just sick how relaxed his heart is compared to yours or what mine would be.. 😮 oh to live in or near to mountains. Perhaps I’d have chance of getting mountain fit.
Which athlete would you like us to meet up with? Let us know 👇
You did the King, maybe get the Queen on:
Courtney Dauwalter? 🔥🔥🔥
Lionel Sanders!
Courtney and Sally McRae.
Jasmin Paris would be interesting
Beau Miles

Allegedly. And quite a few question marks.
That is a ridiculous spread of heart rates!
no one with a vo2max over 90 is clean, no one! not greg lemond either
@@cypriano8763 isn't vo2max just your lung volume? Not sure Peds change that figure, I would have thought it changes the utilisation of said volume.

I rarely have “jaw drop” moments, but when I saw the two heart rates side by side - wow!😮

@@kennethward9530hahah I always said the z2 talk test is a load of rubbish 😄
@@kennethward9530complete sentences? Dude was drowning.
Trail runner? Dude's a legendary skyrunner if anything. Insane you got him on GTN!
Or everything… 😂
To win UTMB, Sierre Zinal, Hardrock 100 etc. several times would certainly qualify you as trail runner and ultra runner as well.
Super interesting interview and impressive to do an interview while dying with an over 180 HR!!!
Great video and really nice to see your different puls and how effective he run .
And we all know that Mark is a really good runner. A different perspective.
So happy for you to have him as guest.
As a subscriber from La Cerdanya… watching a video from the channel in La Cerdanya WITH Kilian is PURE JOY!! Congrats, team!! ❤
Wow, it's rare to have an interview with the GOAT of trailrunning. And you guys have an epic day with him. So so cool!!!!
Love it! It's outrageous how good Kilian is.
Best guest on the channel ever!
YEAAAAH!! What a time to be alive, GTN AND Kilian Jornet?!?! Haven't watched past the intro yet and I'm already excited hahaha
enjoy!
probably one of the best interview i've ever seen, Kilian Jornet is the real GOAT and you did really well, there was no stupid question and even if i'm a big fan and i knew a lot of things about Kilian, i still have learn a lot !
Mark, congratulations! Nothing wrong with running with an icon!
Mark + Killian = Instant Like 😎
down hill with eyes closed! legend!!!
3years old doing 12k cross country whaaaaaat??? Congrats for making this video while surviving that torture:))
Cross country ski race.
He is a legend 🤩
Epic interview 👏💯
great content :) he seems so down to earth and u Mark did a great job being able to talk with 180bpm heheheh
Excellent video
WOW I love this! Thanks for sharing with us! I was smiling the whole video, very humbling.
no to utmb no to ironman. support local races that actually support communites instead of vail resorts and private equity.
AND races and organizations that don't advocate for massive global travel at the expense of nature!!

Trail running is hard. I enjoy the technicality it’s a nice stimulation for the brain.
Oh! Joaquin López just got 3rd in the Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc. I told you to go to Ecuador and run trails with him.
Amazing to see the epic fitness of KJ! =D
Amazing that you got to train with Kilian! He is soooo impressive. Always shocked to see his Starva stats😅
Awesome questions asked and answers given! He seems to be quite a humble person. Cheers to a great video!
I love these raw videos. Well done.. great vid
Thank you guys for the video my greetings from Zamora Ecuador 🇪🇨🏃🏻
Life complete, indeed! Once you hit the trails there's no going back to pounding tarmac.
When Kilian talks I listen.
Focusing on the connection between our eyes, muscles and feet. An interesting tip!

Fantastic format!
Kilian - I mainly just do zone 2/3.....
Yeah, but that’s everyone else’s zone 5!
I liked the video even before watching it 😆
I can't help but feel that Kilian's HR is only going up because he is talking... Well done you for managing to ask some questions despite the HR! also didnt realise it wasnt just me that had watery eyes on downhill so that's also good to know!
damn. he ran up that hill faster than gravity allows me to fall out of bed
But where he excels is in the downhill. The goat, mountain goat.
Thanks GTN for this video. Always a pleasure to watch G.O.A.T.👍🙏🙏🙏
Epic effort💪! Best interview ever 🙌! Good job!
Now i know VO2Max of 90 could do . Thanks GTN
I've ran up this very same hill many many times... It's a short but steep climb! Obviously Kilian is at the top of the segment on Strava 🤣
Kilian is so great 🦿🦿!
Well, i guess i would go half the speed and have a 180 BPM HR.... ^^
Btw: please show the ankle-part to Si and Dan...
Kilian 🙌🏽 🙌🏽 🙌🏽 🐐
Absolutely stunning!
The GOAT himself
the dreamed episode ! 🎖🎖☀
I'm usually impressed by how fit Mark is so it's rather mind blowing to see him compared to a top elite runner like Kilian
He is not only an elite.. he is the top of the elites by quite a big margin.
So, even an elite compared to him would look weak... lol
But congrats on the interview. Just being fit enough to be able to train with him is amazing.
AWESOME!
Do Joaquin Lopez in Cuenca Ecuador! He runs trainings for trail running at 8500 ft!
'look far ahead n try remember what coming to your feet' tips seems similar like skiing n snowboarding. we dont look down to feet as we need to pay attention ahead where we are going 🤔
the heart rate difference is a joke, Kilian is an alien
That HR! WTF!
Heats off to Mark, seems he struggled with HR but didn't complain
Mark: ‘So how much of that is actually running?’
Killian: ‘40-80km per week so basically nothing’
And there was me thinking my 75km per week of running was a strong effort 😭
Dude’s fighting for his life while Kilian just casually talking. lmao!
😂
What is meant by "break the legs"? I've heard that many times already. Breaking the muscles to build them up maybe?
I love my COROS watch...and their customer support is simply excellent! So happy to see you guys partner up with COROS! ~Megan
Poor Mark is always the Guinea Pig - Great work!
watch out for Asia trail runners champion.. John Ray Onifa and Milton Amat..
they are brutal trail runners..
Wonderful video, really enjoyable..
Im curious though towards the session, could someone explain please - I mean, was it climbing for 20min followed by decent for 15? And then repeat or did I miss something.
I recon it would be good workout at the gym
Kilian's HR is ridiculous. That's me cycling downhill.
Kilian is easily greatest trail runner ever lol
Where in the Pyrenees is this? It looks gorgeous
Just along from Font Romeu
Just sick how relaxed his heart is compared to yours or what mine would be.. 😮 oh to live in or near to mountains. Perhaps I’d have chance of getting mountain fit.
#trailrunning is the 💩🩷 Being #outdoors with #nature = 😊
As big former advocates of the Wahoo ELMNT, curious what you've thought of Coros and how it compares to brand like Polar and Garmin?
Kilian is a god.
afaik the guy has a pretty incredible VO2 max
Around min 14 what was Kilian saying? “Nosaltres el que voliem…” jo vull saber que volies haha
Bros heart rate is 114 going up the hill 😂
My heart rate is higher when I get a phone call from my mother.
Awesome 👏
Hello Killian ❤
Did Mark wear arm HR Monitor as well?
Epic 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🙌🙌
A genetic freak and seems like a nice guy. Loved seeing the contrast between chill and pure suffering 😂
The 2 heart rates = great content
Dude's redlining at 190bpm while Kilian is at a cool 130. Crazy. I'm sure they didn't send an out of shape dude to do this either.
Killian's pointing out advantages of strong, chunky ankles suggests to me presenters at GCN owe Simon Richardson an apology or two.
Kilian: "Blablablablablabla..."
Mark: "OK!"
Kilian: "Blablablablablabla..."
Mark: "Yeah!"
I was impressed that the man could talk at 180+ BPM
Haha that was as much as I could manage 🤣
I have the same problem with the eyes! It s very annoyng!
If you guys doubt that he is the GOAT you just have no freaking clue
Very interesting. I will NOT be practicing hopping on my ankle!
🎥👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
175 vs 125. thats crazy
Kilian jonet vo²max is 90.2.
Wtfffffff he has a bpm of 113 running up a hill??? Is that genetic or can I achieve that at all ever with training
Think we're screwed.
He was born in the mountain and trained or ran for fun up there since a very young age ...
Genes with a ton of training I imagine
Genes 80%and tons of training 20%
He’s running every single day since he was a kid, you can’t imagine how many km!! This is insane
His training is legendary. Don’t worry about genetics. You’re most likely not training hard enough for the genetic component to matter.
the heart rate values lol
Sure He is......like a runner and like a people
My question is what is his resting hr asleep!😮
33 at rest, probably close to the hr of a blue whale while sleeping
Most runners would do well to do something else mostly for one season a year.
And my ankle won't do that. Lol.
I liked the video👍
Kilian has highest ever VO2 max, I read somewhere
Not highest ever but one of the highest.
My heartrate would be zero by the end of all that lol
Watery eyes? That’s called crying😅
Niveau cardio, ca monte beaucoup trop haut comparé a kilian , surtout a cet allures , c est vraiment trop haut,
well done for trying to speak at 180 bpm ))
