Ogopogo or unusually large bird? BC couple spots something strange beneath the waves

- Dale Hanchar wasn’t searching for a mythological sea creature when he set sail on Okanagan Lake in British Columbia this weekend. Now, days later, he’s toying with the idea he may have seen something strange.
He and his wife Colleen along, with their friend Myrna Germaine Brown, were enjoying an unseasonably warm day on the water Saturday when they caught sight of something in the water they couldn’t explain.
They managed to get the sailboat within 10 feet of the object and took a photo.
“For one thing, the two nodular things are sticking up… whatever they are, those that are about three feet apart,” he said.
Could it be the legendary lake beast Ogopogo?

How the hell is that a duck. It looks like a wolf face under water.
Does not look like a duck at all. You can even see an eye and some teeth or I am I crazy? I think it must be a halloween prank.
And the horns! I'm shook fr
To me the “horns” look like weird ears and that face is a wolf-like face if I ever saw one.
Could it be simple, maybe like one of those wood carvings, done with a chainsaw, that got washed into the lake from a storm?
That guy looking at photo saying it’s a duck🤦♂️
That's what I thought, till I looked at the horns (Ossicones) a bit better and they make sense to be horns. They even have the coil you'd see in ram horns 🤷♀️.
People outside in nature: captures proof of mystery creature.
Folklore expert in office: "it's a bird"
Look up diving duck or water bird and you will see what he means.
Lol right
You consider that proof? 😊
No its a plane
This is the closest we get to a high quality photo of a lake cryptid sighting. i've been analyzing this image for the past few weeks and the creature seems super similiar to ancient dragons that people from back then used to describe. and when i checked the reports of Ogopogo sightings from the past, yup, the creature in this image looks exactly like what those witnesses reported.. from the horns, the horse/canine like head.
this is legit for me.
That’s what I thought! When I saw it I immediately thought dragon/aquatic dragon that’s serpentine
Yeah I can get why so many can see a wolf, but those are not ears and that thing is definitely serpentine.
Lol
C'mon it's an aquatic bird
As soon as I saw it, I thought it kind of looked like a tiger’s face without the stripes. Then as it zoomed in, I felt nuts but thought, “I’ll be damned if that doesn’t look like some kind of dragon face
"It appears to be some sort of aquatic bird." An aquatic bird that is underwater and with horns? Okay. 👀
Those aren't horns
@@Narco.Trafficante Proof?
@MrMenefrego1 Proof is nothing in fresh water has horns and the object is small and rounded with feathers. Its definitely an awkward angle showing a wing tip and a shoulder or other wing joint sticking out. Your looking at the photo too literal.
@@Narco.Trafficante Okay.
@@Narco.Trafficante yeah whatever it is, its pretty hairy ;)
LOL that ain't sleeping that's looking straight at you.
Right?? You can see the eye!
That is not a goose bro
Cormorant
That is not a duck or a goose what a ding dong that guy he obviously has never left his computer screen. Geez 🙄
Lol he probably hasn't seen a duck since per covid
I need him to explain this body of a “bird” 😂😂😂😂
Skeptics forget we haven't discovered all the creatures on earth yet especially aquatic ones. It's like they think we know everything.
Honestly I find this both fascinating and horrifying at the same time and yet I’m hoping this is absolutely real cause the more I look at this I actually start believing what I see. We need some under water drones or flying drones for this kind expedition. If this couple can encounter something like this with a phone imagine if the footage from a flying drone could produce some amazing results.
That's the legendary monster of the the lake. Seriously , it looks like a dragon. How can you think anything else lol ? People minds are so boring nowadays
Right lol
That’s exactly what it looks like to me.
to our expert "folklorist". " it's either a goose or a duck". The witness claimed, with his hand gestures, its about 5 feet high and 3 feet wide. That's a big duck.
A duck with horns eh?
Basically like the "Medical" experts killing millions of people with pharmaceuticals and experimental genetherapy 🤣
Clearly its not a bird 0 brain cells💀
@@pls34 right, it's not anything like a duck or goose, this expert might work for the Smithsonian, they hide everything, there is much more to this world than the ' experts ' admit ( or know )
Pretty good picture, it's not a duck or goose
Some of the reports I've read do say that the creature has horn-like appendages. Tough call on this one.
i have never seen a duck swim face down underwater. That is a genuine monster if not photoshopped.
That's literally how they get food though. What do you even mean?? They put their face underwater to look for food.
Just....what?
LOL, i don't even know what to say to this one my dude
It looks like a bloody water horse, a kelpie. Great I'll never alone at any lake again...
@Darkesthatecraft Water horse looks like a horse not a wolf/Shepard
Yes!!! It does look like a Kelpie
When I was a wee lad Less than 10 years of age We left Kelowna on our way Up to the cabin 14 miles into the bush Up the Brenda Mines Rd of Peachland & we drove through Westbank & we were on our way Just starting the downward incline Just before Peachland It's a long incline & there were a couple of cars parked On both sides Near the top of the highway So my dad pulled over & we ran across the highway As the highway wasn't as busy back then With around 30,000 people living in Kelowna back then If I remember correctly So we ran across the highway To where the others were About 8-10 people + us Maybe more/maybe less As I wasn't counting people I was watching a frigging miracle! & we were all amazed While we all wildly watched! I remember everyone being so excited! As we all looked down On Lake Okanagan & there it was! The Ogopogo! & it was swimming On this side of the lake Going east & we could all clearly see! That Ogopogo! We Clearly Saw It! The Ogopogo! Wasn't a school of fish Or any other water animal/fish But! If you ask my dad! He'll say I don't remember that Or we didn't see the Ogopogo! Hahaha But I'm positive! That I remember it a lil better! Cause knew better! I knew like the others Of what we all saw & then as soon as it was there All of a sudden It was gone To never be seen again! Not by me As I've looked Each & every time! A water wolf? Definitely intriguing
Definitely is an odd one🤔.
At first glance, it looks like a wolf head, however the "ears" are triangular and almost giraffe like (with their ossicones), and the bottoms are coiled the way ram horns grow.
I'm going with it being Oggopoggo over a duck, especially the size the witness stated it was.
That's exactly what people describe when they have a sighting of this creature.
@@sincerewyd2285 Right, it's cute. Like a sweet furry aquatic friend. It looks adorable. I hope it stays safe!
@@Jennyk448 Lol would a sea and lake creature have so much fur.
@@carol2132 it's not a bird if it was, you wouldn't be able to take a picture of them diving underwater. It's fast have you ever hunted ducks from a fishing boat or seen them while your fishing. I'm native and grew up on reserve and by a massive lake. Ducks aren't waiting for you to take pictures of them and definitely not when they are diving underwater.
Adam Benedict certainly is no " expert ". That's gotta be the most ridiculous description of what it possibly could be, ever. " It ApPeArS tO bE sOmE sOr SHUT UP. Dude was probably paid to say that.
"Hesitation" because he doesn't know how to admit it's a sea crearure? Come on! That is FACE! I have never heard of Ogopogo, but that isn't a bird or a duck, it's def some type of sea creature. You can see it's EYE and horns. Perhaps it is surfacing because collective we are raising our conciousness enough for it to feel 'comfortable' checking out the surface. My advice to sea creature is DIVE DEEP Friend. You don't wanna come up here yet! :-) This guy dismissed this thing faster than one can say Duck?
I do get your point, if I were there I would probably have the answer.
Why did the guy say he thought it was a log? Only when he saw the photo did he suggest it looked cryptid-like.
Its a lake. No sea creatures live there
When you zoom in you can see the teeth and also see another set of teeth underneath so there's looks to be 2 creatures in this photo and they definitely have teeth almost like a shark or dinosaur
2 faces, the shadow side reveals the teeth, dragon whisker, and demon eyes. Sunny side is the Pokémon looking pet face
Always described as "sleek" black not furry!
The lake monster has been mostly described as being a serpentine creature with smooth dark skin with a large body thicker than a telephone pole and being up to 50ft in length. The monster has said to move at incredible speeds coiling its body in vertical undulations and propelling itself with a powerful tail.
Not one ripple in the water.
Woah that looks like an Ogopogo Lake Monster! What Duck has Horns? Seriously I've never heard of it
They have pictures, videos, and camera underwater. They’ve had these for at least 10 or more years they know what’s there, but they’re not telling the public. people are made to cover it up.
They have evidence for far longer than that. This is true world wide. For example the British government gave the Loch Ness monster protection, making it illegal to kill it. Now if it was just a myth, why would they do such a thing? If you watch how these freemasons operate, they will often reveal bits and pieces of the truth, while lying to you at the same time.
That “expert” clearly has never seen a duck in all his life.
It's a fun legend and good for Kelowna's tourism.
Why is there only one photo?
No one will believe you without a video or multiple photos.
They are old and taking one photo without shaking is hard
A goose? A duck? I’d like to have some of what he’s having
My Aunt lived on the lake and saw Ogopogo in 1968
It's really weird that there are so many reported sightings throughout the years but the actual creature didn't even had the time to connect with us. Just like a curious dolphin playing with boats or something like that. I guess Ogopogo's knows how evil do humans can be.
Based on my experience of hunting lake monsters i can confidently say that this is definitely a terrifying large dragon-like horned beast. Failing that, maybe a duck
PS: As the couple paddled away they heard a duck laugh quacking in the distance. They knew then they had been had
@@tommyebay we've all been there, easy mistake to make
Water wolf...come on ...who cannot see that face clearly...so cool
I don't know but I hope it's friendly
Probably a carnivore but hey try feeding it.. It might like people... Pop a foot in lol
That's a water dragon!!!!!!
Ever seen a duck with horns before? Me neither.
Immediately i see the face of a cyote or wolf. The horns on top don't look natural to me. Maybe it's some sort of novelty flotation device, i dunno. I dont see no goose, duck or large aquatic bird that's for sure. What an interesting mystery.
It kinda reminds me of Crusoe from the movie the water horse.
😂 yeah sure looks like a duck or goose, good one 👍
Congrats for the high quality camera !!
Oh yes 👏 👏👏 because usually pics and vids always comes out super blurry. This is the best pic and great evidence of seeing something we don’t see everyday.
this is the guy we need photographing UFOs
Many old stories of "sea monsters" are said to have the head of sheep or wolves. No idea.
Jinn?
@@chingvang9320 myths and legends are always based on something real.
Definitely looks man made!
So called experts would deny it even if it hits them between the eyes and they see it themselves 😂🙄🤦
Adam Benedict is wayyyyy off base. It is NOT a bird, whether aquatic or otherwise. The face does look almost canine like. But, Dale Hanchar stated the head was 3 feet across, so defo not a bird. It very well could be the ogpogo monster. I don't think it is a dogman either.
Aaahhh, yes. I also sometimes confuse a dragon for an upside down duck.
A DUCK???,think they should show someone that has a clue.
I defy you to show me a duck or goose that looks like that. I don’t know what the hell it is.
A goose? Lmao!
It looks nothing like a duck or a goose, who is this expert, get him some glasses, can anyone say ' cover up '?
Don't you just love these self-appointed 'experts'? 😊
The only way to know would have been to jump into the water and see what was lurking down below.
Looks like my puppy swimming underwater.
Yeah because dogs love being Submarines.....How does glue taste?
A puppy with horns. I see them often.
Take that, Nessie! Ogo Pogo is going to be the first one to be confirmed, yet! Lol...
P. S... Is this Ogo pogo in water that has cave systems and stuff? Cos, that Nessie one is connected to the Sea and has much more of a "home" to hide in.... Js.
Last I heard, due to a very sudden stop in most or all Nessie sightings, concern is growing that it may have finally died. I saw that they were scanning for any large organic forms that may have sunk & settled on the loch bottom.
R.I.P., our mysterious 1st lake "monster" love!
How is that a bird? It looks like a dragon!!
one of the major issues i have - no matter how badly I want this to be real - where is the rest of its body…?
Under water genius
Aquatic bird doesnt have horns.
That is a very good photo of the lake monster. Not a goose or duck 🦆 but the real Ogopogo serpent creature. Fascinating and scary at same time. 😮
Ok so after seeing this documentary about Vancouver Sea Wolfs amd how they swim from shore to shore. Now look closely.. he is facing you. You see his nose, the one eyeball the 2 horns are wet ears. If you look closely you can make out the ear under water .
Once again its a Vamcouver Sea Wolf.
Nope... too big for that. :)
But there's no wolves in this valley and witness size description is huge as well as the fact it was "sleeping" if somehow it was a dead sea wolf it would be floating
The ear is above water and the ears are shiny doesn’t look look like there’s fur on them
@@BigG99 How many times have witnesses been wrong? There is nothing in the photo to give indication of size!
This wasn't swimming, they even said they thought it was a log.
It looks like"Horns| are just the ears. The deflection in the water gives them the horn appearance
Zoom in on the right one.
The sides are spotted. Bizarre!
The ears are the large potrusions sticking out of the water. Look carefully and you can see its horns between the ears. They are shorter and just below the water surface.
Ogopogo is the legendary monster it is hard to see him but he lives underwater but he will come out if no one around he will sleep if no ones around
Looks like a big floatie that's half under water due to it deflating
So one thing I have analyzed that primarily sticks out to me the most when not looking at the body of the ehad itself is that underneath it you can definitely see its body which is clearly seen as the black figure beneath it that sinks into the water and it looks as if its body lengthens below the water rather than showing an expanded and large body beneath it, thats the only thing that really puzzles me about this picture is that if this was an aquatic bird why is there clearly another section connected to what appears to be a head traveling from it down into the water.
Personally me too as crazy as it may sound if I had a fishing rod I'd of probably casted a line out to it, I am always tired of seeing these types of photos that are so intriguing and never really verifying for ourselves what the creature is, more than likely the creature would have ran away when casting a line out to it, but that definitely would have allowed for a better picture to have been taken since it would have then been forced to move if startled. Either way this looks way to far away from a bird based off what we can visibly see not to mention the clear image of what we are looking at was clearly stationary and I am sure the people responsible for the photo would have acknowledged that it was moving if it were but we know its stationary because the guy said that he did not want to be near it incase it was sleeping which is how we know it was staionary, and I think the guy that said its likely one couldnt find an honest and logical answer to what it was so he thought inside the box of what we consider real rather than thinking outside that box and considering the unknown, its sad that we have experts that only think on ehat they know rather than considering the ides that what they are looking at is entirely something profound to them and just admit they don't have an answer on what it clearly is rather than providing an idea of what it could be based off their own assumptioms and not a clear fact.
@@Morris.AndrewYeah, If it's a duck diving, ripples should be seen on the water but in the photo it isn't, it's stationary (sorry bad English, its not my first language)
@@Khann_2102 I also can agree with this I didn't think about that either
This is the real thing
Goose ,aquatic bird some expert . Great photo of unknown creature
Looks to me like a homemade Ogopogo with the horns looking like plastic funnels.
A bird? That’s the most ridiculous conclusion I’ve ever heard in response to a water based cryptid 😂
True, it's clearly a floating root ball.
How many aquatic birds rest with their whole bodies under water? Silly billy!!

I dare you to go retrieve the creepy carved piece of wood
@@kurtisshoobert7992 Could you imagine late at night , pulling up to that thing and throwing a hook into it .. pulling it up and it opens its mouth?? !! LOL .
😀👍 Looks like a water dragon to me. Maybe sailors oughta attach cameras underneath their boats on all sides. That way, the residents would have a better chance of scoring a picture of the whole thing.
To be honest i think thats real first the face and eyes and second the color maybe his whole body was deep in the water looks like it tbh or it might just be a statue
A goose or duck?! Haha!!!!
Aquatic bird?! WTH?! That guy is lying through his teeth. There is no bird on earth that looks like that & just hanged out under water! Oh, and with horns! OMG!

Either CGI or someone set up a dummy head just beneath the surface. If you blow up the still picture, it really looks like art work...🤔
A duck,, this man has not been out in nature, haha Duck and Cover
A goose or a duck lol.
It's 100% a Sea Wolf. They are a rare, highly specialized type of wolf that, unsurprisingly swims and hunts in the sea. They are sometimes called the "Vancouver Island Sea Wolf". Animalogic has a great video on them on their RUclips channel. :)
Naw, it's 300% a space kangaroo. They are rare a highly specialized for space so it's even rarer to see them underwater. I didn't do any research on this or anything but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express.

Hell no lol that creature is looking right at them. I do not wanna throw something at that when it’s eyeballing me like that. I wouldn’t have even taken the picture tbh
They should have used the video function, sculpture looks too much like that disney dragon. No video, tourist board ad.
Looks like grapnel anchor attached to the tree root.
whenever you want a ridiculously dismissive answer ask an 'authority'
Octopus... they look almost exactly like that with horns and they can get big. But how it got to Okanogan Lake...?
Octopus are smart. If there was one nearby, say at an aquarium or private dwelling, that got out, it would find the closest water.
They thought it could be a log?
Why did they not poke at it or investigate further if they thought it may be harmful to other boats?
*Clear depiction of mythical sea dragon* Media: the beta boy thinks it's a duck case closed lmao
😂😂A horned duck with a 5 ft. Head. I have seen everything now 😂😂😂

Lake monster is a stretch.
Aquatic bird is also ridiculous.
That there is called a Dogman...the man who claimed it was a bird/goose/duck is trying to deflect from the truth.
Unfortunately, this is likely a very good sculpture or animatronic, there is a diver down there holding that head or that head attached to their diving gears but I could be wrong definitely
it's obviously that scuba diving Sasquatch GOONIE GOO GOO, NAUI certified of course.
I see a dog’s head, submerged, with what must be a dog life preserver that has some horns so you don’t lose your dog when he is swimming.
