Fascinating how a sound engineer can change so much about a song just by rearranging historical outtakes. Had a girlfriend who used to walk around recording conversations on her I phone, and later rearrange the clips as a soundtrack on movies she made for humorous effect. (She loved when George Takei was made to talk lovingly about “lengthy black teenagers” on Howard Stern by use of a soundboard...) It was hysterically funny at first, but when she started instigating bizarre conversations with people, or even start loud arguments out of the blue just so she could record them, I thought she might be taking her hobby a little too far. In the right hands, funny. In the wrong hands, who knows?
You know what would take these over the top in terms of how good they are? Put up some relevant pictures and video clips Ken Burns style as the podcast plays underneath and these would be almost like documentaries. It wouldn't be too terribly hard to do but it would take the value up a lot. I love these pods but sometimes I hesitate clicking on them just a bit because I know there is no visual stimulation going on like most other podcasts these days. Maybe something to consider for the future. I'm a weekly listener regardless!
On the link between literary fantasy and The Grateful Dead surely one link that should have been made after the George RR Martin connection was made in the podcast was surely the name of the band's song publishing-'Ice Nine', from Kurt Vonnegut' s 'Cats Cradle' novel, it is 'water that keeps it's form at room temperature and does not melt', an odd metaphor for the process of songwriting.......
On the intro to the SuperCut you forgot to mention one thing that changed over the years: the key the song is played in by the band! Born in A, migrated to C. I don’t know what year, but I assume after the hiatus?? What’s the word?
Oh cmon now. Let old boys make some money for their families before they go. As far as we are concerned we should care less for they have endless hours of music available to us for free. Maybe those sneakers will turn on the kids that buy them to the music
Riley Sanders thanks bub. I’ve seen a lot people have a problem with this sneaker thing. I betcha they are pissed because they can’t buy them being a limited series thing. they also buy tie dyed dead shirts from Macy’s but their nuts are twisted over sneakers
Dire wolf such a cool, for a kid scary bedtime story, for me a 35 yeah old man a cool scary bedtime story haha i really love it !Robert and jerry big kids.Awesome sense of humour, everthing in this world we are in for so long should be all about having fun, laughing and more fun.To many serious humans around, dont laugh get top paying slave job working for the man.Marry to please your parents, and when you get your own home make shore you pain your fence white haha.Nothing wrong with being married, make sure she has a heart for you,not your cash and white fence.Life is about goodtimes.Dire wolf love this, cool to jam to.
I've got to admit that I have a cognitive dissonance of the Dead teaming up with a company like Nike. If Nike banned child labor, or almost just as importantly, slave labor, I'd be more on board.
@Timothy Newitt I have no idea why they'd sign off on that outside of currency, but it's not right. I won't go as far as to say I'm personally disgusted, but I do have a hard time believing it's what they ought to do.

This was great!
This podcast series is most excellent.
The pedal-steel was actually purchased at a music store in Boulder, Colorado when they were playing Folsom Field.

That was a masterfully crafted mix of dire Wolf’s at the end. I guess you could call it a pack of wolves!
Hot damn! Thanks so much for putting this together. Really well done!
Been listening on iTunes. Thank you so much for this podcast. I absolutely love it.

This podcast rules!!!
One of my personal favorites!
the song is a metaphor for how people deal with tough economic times.....
The wolf is NIKE... BURN THE SHOES!!!!!
@Timothy Newitt It was probably some corporate people that decided to do that, not members of the band.
@Timothy Newitt wow I've been spelling chynuh wrong this whole time. Nice move! All jokes aside I COMPLETELY agree

Dire wolf. Meh. Won't reach it's potential until Friday the 13th movies make it their theme song.
If you’re pissed you didn’t win the Grateful Dead Nike SBs, say “I”.

Don’t care about dead shoes. Lame.
