This podcast is great. Hearing all these stories with the cast, crew, hosts, and writers is making me love that era of SNL even more. Those are my favourite years of the show and from like 91 to 93, I watched it every single week. When I realized years later Conan was a writer on SNL it blew my mind, and hearing his stories from back then are amazing!

i'm just glad i was a fan of conan since 2015 and got to see him go all over the world putting a smile on people's faces from any race or creed, by making himself the butt of every joke instead of what most people do, which is to turn others into content. that actually takes alot out of you and needs alot of effort. thats why conan is the true comedy legend of our era. he is borderless !

You get to see Conan and Andy watch bits from writers, judge them, then on the spot come up with funnier jokes than the writer's that are making fun of said skit. Conan is super quick and an incredible comedy writer. Best writer on his own shows.

What an absolute blessing to get a peek behind the curtains all these years later. One of the absolute best feelings in the world is being able to listen to content like this and relate to so many comments, and what truly feeds that for me is getting the affirmation of why I clung to certain people growing up and then discovering in your 40s that all those people are friends. Imagine being captain or co-captain of a comedy cruise ship. This isn't some niche' comedy crowd; these people still have their hands on the steering wheel. Name another late-night host that has as many connections to new writers and comedians that are big today. Sorry, I'm not a writer, but I hope the overall message comes across clearly. Thank you, Carvey, Spade, O'Brien, Richter, Nealon, Ross, Micheals, Letterman, Franken, Downey, Farley, Sandler, Rock, Cole, Sona, Schlansky, Gorley, Eduardo....nearly everyone here knows the names. Thanks for being yourselves and allowing us to spectate for the last 40+ years.

The influence of Conan as a person, the writers and actors of the show, Triumph and the many comedians on SNL who later shifted to movies and comedy albums offered an absurd/intellectual perspective to which we could view society. Entire parts of my personality and comedic repertoire is attributed to these people, as a millennial raised on the TV before TiVo and streaming. I feel an erasure of this generation (loosely Gen X) is a great fall to our current society. Everything is self aware and flawless, too dumb and emotionally stunted to handle absurdity mixed with the intellectual. I think that’s why JF has the time slot he does, he was weird in his late time spot but now I guess just laughs? That’s what the internet tells me anyway. Also Jon Lovitz is a total babe and sometimes their Lorne sounds like Cher who would be a hot Dr. Evil. 🤷🏻‍♀️
ETA: Robert Smigel, the man literally behind Triumph. I’m so easily led dude I just attribute Triumph to His own self as a puppet which is a compliment to the creator. Fave joke to Bon Jovi as a vampire “finally a role that requires you to suck”. Also never forget when Eminem had his crew protect him from a dog puppet.

Your spot on impersonations, original characters, slapstick sensibilities, intelligence, just all do it for me. I like Conan and David but rarely find either humorous, possibly due to my own issues. 1:09:32 These must not realize that SNL took an absolutely VICIOUS shot at Carson in 1980 during season 6. It was an ad for the Johnny Carson school of broadcasting that basically accused Carson of being a hack who stole most of his material (which was true, all of his famous recurring bits were ripped off ). It was a fair attack, but pretty mean spirited.

These guys discussing Chris Farley and the fact that I grew up watching this cast in the early to mid 90s as a kid. And now my 10 year old LOVES Tommy Boy and wants to watch it all the time (which is around the same age I was when it came out and loved it// also things were different back then, kids could easily watch all these movies back then and me and all my friends and cousins my same age loved it!). But now when my kid is watching it, I’m with her and I just fast forward through the racy parts. But I’m glad my kid is able to enjoy some of the greatest comedy ever made from the greatest period of SNL imo. I never understood why the cast completely changed over night seemingly in around ‘96. I was so mad, even as I kid, and hated SNL after that. It really hasn’t been as good since. Only recently, in like the last year, I’ve actually lol’d watching the show in over 20 years. Here’s to hoping they’ve finally found a cast that’s as good as the early 90s era. 😕

Johnny Carson just had a fragile ego, had nothing to do with anyone making jokes on his expense. He should have just embraced the SNL sketches as a testament to his legacy.

Johnny beat all newcomers. There would be a graveyard of past hosts who had to quit because Johnny beat them. This interview made me think of the Carsinio sketch where Johnny decided he needed to be more hip so he transformed to be like Arsenio.

lol now I see they were making light of this with krusty being past it when the Gabbo show comes along and he said “I’ve had plenty of people come after me and I’ve buried em all, hobos… sea captains… Joey bishop” 😂😂😂

What Neil Young did (on SNL) was thrash that guitar so hard one of his strings let go. I mean, that happens, sometimes that's a tiny metal whip whizzing by your eyeball, but the way he kept playing, Neil just seemed more angry the rest of the strings were still there.

42:00 The pronunciation of _niche_ is, according to the dictionary, "nitch" and not "neesh."

British pronunciation is "neesh".....maybe American is different.

@@lv7118That's ironic, because the British refuse to pronounce *any* French word as the French would -- e.g., _fillet_ for them is "FILL it," and so on -- yet the one word they're *supposed* to Anglicize they say as the French do.
