Norm is the greatest snl update dude ever period
Yeah it was awesome! I also love the stand up I saw him do online. He is strongly against cannibalism which I respect. Also I learned he was a vegetarian. But not a strict one, he still ate fish and chicken, and beef, pork, lamb, and BISON!
Norm said Dennis Miller was the best.
@@christianfinkbeiner684Norm was being nice. He knew he was the best and he knew Dennis thought he was the best
Dana Carvey not mentioning Norm was wild...
Dennis Miller is a comedic genius.
Less of a genius when it comes to which countries have weapons of mass destruction though and that has damaged his legacy pretty hard unfortunately
Miller is in his element here. Wish he still had his radio show.
He was dead wrong about Trump and the risks and dangers he projected onto the Republic and didn’t take serious scholars of political history seriously, even conservative ones who recognized the dangerous demagoguery and populism. He blundered his way through the tea party movement too and never understood the real nature of that movement and the elites who funded it.
Best moments in radio when Norm would call in.

Never owned a tv until after my 30th birthday in 94.
However, I never missed an episode of snl because my friends and often roommates watched religiously.
We loved the original cast and were less enchanted until Dennis took over the news desk and Spade, Norm, Dana, Schneider, Sandler and Farley came along.
You saved the show and it lives on. The few of us left alive still get together and watch your movies.
Loved Spade's talk show but this is even better because I bought my way to no commercials.
Keep on and Thanks.
Just a few minutes ago I learned Dana lost a son. My heart goes out to his family.
30:00 Norm MacDonald talk.
thank you
Dennis has a lot of hilarious nicknames and throwaway insults
I’ve always enjoyed Dennis Miller. He riffs so intelligently half the time I don’t know wtf he’s even talking about!
That's why Monday Night Football got rid of him. Everything was over people's heads.
I recall my first exposure to Dennis Miller involved an arcane reference to the character of Hadji from the old Jonny Quest cartoon I watched as a kid. He's had me hooked since that day and obviously hasn't slowed down one iota. Great podcast.
Brilliant comedian for brilliant minds. And Spade's sound effects on point as usual.
Tears from laughing, from that Dahmer Joke punchline...Just imagining Norm's delivery...Paraphrasing it was hilarious!
Dennis owned the role of WU anchor, but Norm was NORM. He was in his own category.
Good point. Everybody else just did "weekend update." Norm invented, and did, "The Fake News."
Just discovered this podcast a month or two ago, have watched at least 30 or so. Although you have had GREAT guests, Dennis Miller and Chevy Chase have been my favourites. I just laughed my ass off the whole time!! Not only are Chase and Miller funny as fuck, but the way Spade and Carvey obviously love and revere them is a whole other level of entertaining and heart-warming! Love you guys, keep it up!!!
Emperor’s new grove is THE best. Family favorite for sure.
Den-Den's metaphors and non-sequiturs are the absolute greatest. Used to love Dennis Miller Live and his running rants. Dude's just naturally hilarious.
I'm 46, I grew up with Dennis, Kevin, and Norm on update. No one has came close since IMO.
I'm a minute in, and thinking this could get confusing with Carvey doing spot on Miller Impressions
Dana's comedy special focusing on OJ was the best I've ever seen!
I saw Dennis Miller at local comedy clubs in San Luis Obispo, CA and Hermosa Beach, CA in the mid 80s (pre-SNL) - I thought he was hilarious, so when I was pleasantly surprised when he showed up on SNL. I remember he had a joke about how ridiculous a Big Gulp was: "Nobody needs 32 oz of any beverage unless they've just come back from the surface of the sun," and "Ronald Reagan is too old to have access to the nuclear codes - my grandfather is younger than him and we won't even give him the TV remote."
Reagan snoozing to bedtime for bono with the nuke button on his lap
I remember those jokes from that era, but forgot who delivered them. I probably saw it on a cable comedy special or the like.
I can pretend that I am hanging out with 3 of the funniest old friends on the planet! Totally awesome!
One can tell that these guys are buddies in real life. They have such a natural conversation. One can really hear how much Carvey and Spade look up to Dennis Miller. Miller always came off as a bit brash because he was so sarcastic and sardonic, but he sounds like a very nice person. Surprised he gets nervous. Cool that he admits this. Very honest and vulnerable.
No reason to be nervous Dennis. People love you. Wishing you well. These guys are so funny. Great show, guys.
Definitely saw a very likable side of Miller here. I always liked his somewhat snobby brand of humor, maybe because I was also a big reader and got the refs, but I like him even more as a man, now, too.
Spade, the Dennis Miller one, kills. I couldn't stop laughing. Kool. Emperor's New Groove rules. Dana you were good too.
What's up, Eerie Von! I saw you play in October 1990 at the Crest in Sacramento. You guys were brutal!! One of my favorite concert experiences. Thanks, man!
@@angelotro you're welcome bro. Brutal we were.
Dennis talking about how Johnny acknowledged a bad joke which was funny in itself and that’s one of the things I loved about Dennis’ Wkd Update and his 90’s talk show. A joke would bomb, he’d laugh, wiggle his tremendous head of hair and ppl would laugh. He’s great. Always loved him.
Norm calling in to Dennis Miller's show is some of the best off the cuff hilarity ever.. Dennis is funny etc etc but Norm was the rebel. Dennis sold his mansion for 49mil in Santa Barbara. Norm lived in a condo in WeHo... Diff priorities for those 2 comics obv
Denny has a wife and two sons. Norm was a lifelong bachelor with a gambling problem. Yes, their priorities were different.
@@markdaniels7174 Norm has a family! But you're right- Norm was an artist while Dennis was an entertainer.
I love Norm, but Dennis never caved like Norm did on The View. And Dennis has taken a lot of shit from the same sort of ultra-offended ninnies.
Brilliant! Always laughed till I cried when Mr. MacDonald use to join Mr. Miller on his old show! Thanks for sharing gentlemen
These podcasts have become my new favorite thing...
This really changed my mind about Dennis Miller.
In the past I had the wrong impression of him.
He really is a remarkable person and he obviously is admired among his peers.
He kept his politics out of it.
Absolutely
Dana. David. Thank you for this show! LOVE the reminiscing of our comic geniuses.
One of my fave episodes. Just enjoyed the banter and reminiscing with Miller. Good to get a fly's-eye view of the entertainment industry/stand-up comedians from the ground level. Very real and makes me appreciate what it takes, as well as understand a. It about what hundreds or thousands of folks go through who we never hear about. Thanks Dana, David and Dennis!
Dana’s “Old Man” is Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore) from It’s A Wonderful Life.
REQUEST: Reboot the Dennis Miller late night talk show, but with Dana playing him.
Haven't enjoyed a podcast this much since Norm Live. I love the stories, of course, but also the insights into writing and standup, etc.
Had to stop this several times to find clips of all the old comedians he referenced (Jimmy Aleck, Joe Bolster, etc.). Also, I re-watched a bunch of Carvey's Grumpy Old Man bits and I laughed so hard I cried.
I probably need to look them up as well. Have you heard of Jimmy Brogan or George Miller? Norm used to mention them sometimes and they are pretty funny indeed, in my opinion. Brogan is totally clean and Miller not as much, i think. Steven Wright is another dry comic that gets mentioned too.
Great podcast guys!! What a great camaraderie between you old friends. Dennis is amazing as well as you guys!!
Great, all three of you are absolute masters.
Norm was the best ever, hands down with Dennis 2nd, in my opinion
Concur w/above!
Norm was the only one willing to get fired for telling the jokes he found the funniest. Not really a contest, imo.
And don't let anyone lie to ya about what's great hahah
@@bernlin2000 It's even better than that. Norm could have kept weekend update but when he found out they were going to fire Jim Downey he basically said, "If he goes, I go". ruclips.net/video/SLmhle4V1ZY/видео.html
I see it as 1a and 1b....both awesome
One of THE BEST episodes EVER!! Listening to them reminisce about their good'ol days of SNL past. I wish D.Miller would do another stand-up special...he's never held anything back. An absolute genius. Great show guys! Thank you!
His black and white special is truly something to consider for a case study on what makes stand up work
David's laugh at 11:44 is too good! You can tell Dennis caught him off guard with a quick one. No big deal for a pro. So awesome to listen to. I didn't give Dennis enough cred in the past. He's really funny.
I looooooved his TV show. Miller and Bill Mahers show politically incorrect had huge effects on me as a teenager growing up in the 90s.
You seem to have the people mixed up. David is the one telling the joke at 11:44, not the one laughing.
Dana's old man bit made me laugh so hard. He does the old man voice in the movie Secret Life of Pets.
So good I circled back and listened again 5 months later.
😂 "Spudly"!!!
Awesome, awesome awesome. What a great convo, I could listen to you three for hours and hours.
Carvey and Miller together is comic gold
I'd love to see the "Joe Dirt" as an animated series 😁👏🏻
Someone needs to get an AI program to animate classic old SNL sketches. Heck, why was there never a Toonces cartoon series?
Dennis Miller's mind is wired for infinite creativity.
Love every Norm story I can find from his friends. The Dahmer joke must have been the origin of his joke when he's going on about some guy that brutally murdered and ate someone, goes into the grim details and ends with "in other words, this guy was a real jerk" 🤣
My strongest impression of Dennis Miller was his participation and being MC for Santa Barbara's Alpha/Slingshot Studio for special needs adults. My brother being one of them. Fuckin' awesome.
Nevermind my high school and college years spent perfecting my own impression of Dennis Miller. You got points for archaic and obscure reference somehow making sense, in your imitation of Dennis Miller.
"The Gauls called. Want their national pastime back. We're hurling menhirs in a quarry here." Something like that.
"Haven't seen a play like that since the 'Immaculate Reception.'"
I fuckin love it! My three favorite comedians on the same show. Now I know how hillbillies felt seein blue collier comedy fellas::-)
I love you guys!!!
These episodes are a wealth of information and insight into the comedic process. Many, many, thanks....
How does this have less than 1k 👍???? Such a gnarly show. If only Norm had gotten on the show.
I'll be listening to this episode again...and again.
Love all three of you guys! Been following you since the early stand up days. Keep up the good works!
I watched this Twice in a row! Just too Funny guys. Love you guys! 😂😆🤣
👍
Some of these I just have to watch or listen to, over and over. I hear something different each time.
Talking about people from our youth dying, looking
It was great listening to all you three just laugh laugh laugh!you guys are so funny together!
I love this podcast ! :) My Favorite!
when dana did dennis on update with dennis anchoring update was the best
The Off White Album was the anthem of my youth....
I LOVE your show!
28:55 wine locker 😂
This was awesome!
This is the first time I have heard Dennis mention Norm after his passing. I am sure it isn't but, I actually looked and looked for so.ething drom Miller. I really hope life IS a simulation because these minds really need to be preserved somewhere in the universe.
Though his act changed, conversations with Dennis are awesome. I could listen for hours.
Love this. Thanks for all the laugh’s through the years.
David has the best laugh!
Dennis has always been a funny guy, but side by side, Dana’s Dennis impression may just be funnier than Dennis himself.
Mark Pitta! I saw a brief Mark Pitta clip on tv--maybe even on like Nickelodeon? Is that possible?--a million years ago (the 80s? 90s?) and he was so funny (talking about a "vinyl seat player"??) but it was before I had internet and I had no way to really look people up to see more back then. I'll go look him up now.
I was not expecting Dennis to mention the "man trapped in a box" voice. When you first see the guy do it, it's pretty freaky!
Dennis lost a very close friend, or family member, in 9/11 and felt the Dems weren't signing up for war fast enough. He got behind Jr43 and became more of a cheerleader than a comic. I liked his books and found him funny so this was a great episode. It focused him on the comedy and I felt it a nice visit.
Thsnx for clarifying that....I was always wondering why he turned into such a war hawk. I tuned him out for years.....
@@OscarRuiz-gj3mp I did, too, but I understand why he lost track of the humor. I'm losing track of humor now.
He walked through the blood and guts
@@yuntakukai1002 Sort of but a lot of Americans actually did walk through those in the wars that followed.
@@rainmanjr2007 you are so right. We are trapped in a fascist/socialist duality that might yet trash this democracy.
Love all 3 of you guys. 💜 DM is a class act. Great of him to share his climb up and the winding path to get there. Thx guys. 🌼
I got to go to that show at Winstar in Oklahoma, I was so nervous asking the second audience question about Norm's underwear hanging out his entire set...but I figured somebody had to
Great show keep it flowing
Norm was OBVIOUSLY the best weekend update host
No
I actually loved Dennis Miller in Bordello Of Blood! With Angie Everhart! That movie was great! As far as I'm concerned!
Thanks Carvey and Spudly!! Love you guys very enjoyable!
One of my favorite episodes.
hearing them reminisce about Norm made me smile
Wow U three just killed an I thank U soo much!!!
The boys need video for their podcast
Oh, wow!😢 My 2nd time listening to this show! I loved it so much! It was like a gut-punch to hear Dex's name this time!💔 I'm so sorry, again Dana!😭 I've been listening all day, just to get away from politics for a while!😰 Now, I'm crying! Thank you guys for carrying on! I LOVE THE "SUPERFLY" POD!🥲🥹😟
Great fun! Thank you, gentlemen.
great hour - Dennis is a thesarus of humor...
It was hilarious when they did the Jay Leno impressions, i just realized that its very similar to Seinfeld's High pitch voice at certain moments! 😂🤣
Letterman's tie and jacket move was brilliant to always keep people laughing and keep things moving, if something didn't get a big laugh.
Dennis Miller is a legend and doesn't get enough respect. His intelligent humor is unmatched and i hate we rarely get to hear from or see him anymore.
Miller destroyed his career hooking up with RW zealots and Fox. His comedy is unlistenable crap. He's funny here because he isn't alone.
I agree @john ! Miss him. Guess he is retired now. Brilliant man.
Miller made a left turn with his career off a cliff. I can even tell the exact joke in the special where he came out as a dummy.
Maybe the best episode....it's up there with Downey and Franken!
I love hearing these stories.
Tiny cops. 😂😂😂 that would have been hilarious
also please release video versions of this. amazing
Bateman was also a teen actor on an episode of Knight Rider. Both Teen Wolf's, lol
Norm and Dennis were great, but Cristopher's anchorman affect was one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen on television.
I think I have figured out where this country has gone off the rails. Miller and I are 180 degrees apart politically. I love this guy, his wit and his ability to draw your intelligence in, is a bit more than most comics. Today a lot of people would shut him down or hold his political beliefs hostage. I see it happening way too much with entertainers. You guys are being judged on your politics instead of your talent. Love you Dennis, thanks for making me laugh through the years and sharing in what you believe
ProgressiveNazis have way too much power.
Dennis Miller went on an anti-straw rant in a monologue on his HBO show back in the 90s. The main idea was basically "how lazy do you have to be not to lift the glass one inch?" I was like "He's totally right" and I've never used straws ever since, except when I'm in transit.
Listened to this twice now. Dennis' apartment with the dirt floor is an image I'll never forget. I'll note one thing about Secret Life of Pets 2, it only made half the money the original one did, but it still made $431,058,415 on an $80,000,000 budget. It made a ton of money, so I hope they're not trying to shortchange Dana out of any profits. 😋
To drunk to F@#$ T shirt! killed me
I wish they would have all talked at the same time more.
Bring him back! 🙏
One of the very best
It's good to hear DM. He is a funny guy. Thank you for bringing him back from the dead!
Saw dennis live and jay leno...in kc.. incredible
That “Teen Wolf” comment kills me every time Bateman sounds like a cool dude.
Hope you guys keep doing this..
this was my favorite one
The guuuuyyyyzzzz .. i can't wait to listen. Brewin tha cawfeeee🎉
