Wow,..the Real Deal! I have heard more than 1000 people impersonate Lorne Michaels, all of them former SNL writers, actors and comedians. The guy is a legend. Its weird hearing him, in person, actually talking.
Come back with my shoooow!
When I was a young teen, I always thought those impressions were of Ed Sullivan as I was unaware then of who "the man behind the curtain" was. Lol
@@rinnypinkWell if you think about it,....an impersonation of Lorne, does kind of sound like the impersonations of Ed Sullivan. I never thought of it until now. Both gentlemen had unusual voices, easily impersonated.
Mike Myers. Dr Evil
I love how David Spade is like "you're responsible for everything in my life" and Lorne is like "yes" 😂 Man knows how to take credit. I love it.
"I left Toronto in 1972. It's changed since then." The dry wit cracks me up.
David Spade : "For those of you at home, 86 is higher than 80." . . . Love it.
This guest does the best Lorne Micheals impersonation ever
It was Dana the whole time.
I didn't realize that no one does a good Lorne Michaels - all the impressions are too far over the top.
I'm pretty sure it was Dr evil
@@OldWorkingMan ruclips.net/video/n1y_igH7UUA/видео.html
You seriously believe these men would lie about their guests?
I come back to this episode every now and then because its a piece of American history
😂 Lorne eating and talking with his mouth full at the beginning like he dgaf
I'm sure he's seen the "professionalism" of the podcast and is giving it the respect it's earned 🤣 I couldn't handle the McCartney interview, you just don't talk over someone like that, and I don't need Carvey's insights with anything regarding McCartney, he tells his work story just fine.
@@bernlin2000I feel like Dana wanted more spotlight .. he's awesome but the talking over the guest is crazy impulsive. I'm here for it tho
David Spade is never gonna live down that Ross Perot moment lol
Or, his Eddie Murphy moment. When will Eddie be on this podcast? I would bet, never.
"Hey, Lorne, its Dave- dont hang up.."
OMG! I can't get enough of Lorne Michael's anyway love his "marshmellow filled mouth" voice. So relaxing to me. Thanks you guys. I am subscribed.
Creepy but yes.
Lorne ASMR
I love how Loren blames everything on Franken
This podcast is a blessing
I didn't know what to expect from this iconic guest. But I heard candor and humor and a love for his baby, SNL. He talked to Dana and David like peers during the podcast. Nice to get his insights on a show I started watching in Season 3.
Great interview. I need more Lorne Michaels…. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I’ve never really seen much of Lorne, so the entire podcast I kept thinking it was the longest Bill Hader show.
“You know, his name is Dennis!”
Lorne is the man. Lorne is a God. Incredible edgy smart comedy on a mass appeal forever. Thanks Lorne, Dana and David.Along with Steve Martin and Chevy and so many others.
It's a huge score to have Lorne Michael's on your show. Good on ya!
Mr Michael's has produced entertainment hours unmatched by any other in my life.
His rare talent and longevity in the "splash in the pan" business of television and movies is remarkable.
Thanx again for another great distraction.
Lorne Michaels is his own genre.
that Steve Martin Chris Farley bit was great. hahaha. love em both.
I have not read all the comments, as David suggested, apologies if someone already stated this, but you're recording the comedy history of the United States. It's inspiring and important. Well done.
Ive been binging all these amazing podcasts for the past several days, this is top two. Will is one.
But is Will....eeeevil ?
They should all share a podcast channel. Because there's too many podcasts
Listening to the various noises of Lorne eating was unexpectedly funny.
ASMR with Lorne.
Hilarious that Dana still won't do the impression in front of him. 🤣
Two mensch's negotiating a bond developed within the confines of modern age business hierarchies perhaps.
According to Mike Myers. "Dr. Evil" was inspired by Donald Pleasance and Lorne Himself.
About to start listening and I’m hoping they ask the question Lorne never gets asked: when did he laugh hardest over the years of SNL?
on Norm McDonald's show it was the same thing Lorne Michaels was also eating. Eating popcorn
Lorne loves his snacks
Occasionally I get trapped into thinking I'm listening to a guest doing Lorne :D
Such a legend!
just realized that Dr. Evil is completely based on Lorne 😂😂
Before this interview, more than half of the things I ever heard Lorne say came out of the mouths of other people
These podcasts need to be structured in a less under the clock way. It always feels abrupt and unfinished, then we have to hope we get a part 2, which doesnt always happen. You have to commit to atleast 2 hours per pod for these types of guests. I absolutely love the content of the show though!
True about HS. We’d plan our night around Steve Martin being on 77-80. Our hero even today.
Yay!! So excited for this channel. Im along for the ride 😎🤘
THIS NEEDS VIDEO! Please and Thanks :)
Nah, better without. Use your lazy minds eye. Shut the eyes and listen. Way better
Have to say, Phil Hartman doing Caveman lawyer and the most underrated piece, Phil Hartman as Frankenstein during the Christmas song, Frankenstein could only verbalize “fire bad”. The absolute fucking best, to this day.
I loved him as Ross Perrot’s running mate. I loved Phil Hartman!
@@audreydakin8130 ~ yes, also a underrated skit
The caveman lawyer - that was excellent. And the Frankenstein part in the Christmas song was truly hilarious.
*Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer
Lorne eating a flaming hot Cheeto is too good
Spade sounded so genuinely happy someone else from Arizona made it
Not that it matters,.....Lorne is 79. Which kind of blew me away. I figured he was closer to my age, of 69. I was in college when I first saw SNL,....back when John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and Jane Curtain, were some of the headliners.
He started SNL 48 years ago.
I would have thought Dr Evil would have been a little less collegiate.
What do you mean?
@@mandm2349 Mike Myers based his Dr Evil character on Lorne and the joke is often how cutting his comments are.
I sure would like Mr. Michaels to write an autobiography. I love these stories.
Jan,Phil and Dana as church lady soo funny
One of my favorite episodes!
More people have heard the Lorne Michaels impression (from many different people) than have heard Lorne Michaels himself.
Thanks Dana, you were always funny but you are amazing in audio as a podcaster!
Superb ! When are you guys having Eric IDLE as a show guest !
That's a good idea. Definitely someone they would be able to get.
Pretty sure Lorne is doing an impression of Lorne
Lorne is so likable. What a legend.
He's ok
Wow such awesome interviews from this show, what a treat, seriously. Love it.
3:43 Interview starts
excited to check this out
Free? Never has my skip this this ad finger worked so hard 👆
Please do a video version of these
I keep thinking that Lorne is actually Dana doing the voice... lmao
Really great! Thanks!
This has been the best one! (Not that the others were bad.) (Sheesh!)
Wow after hearing comics witch are great hearing the boss is fascinating. And reverence Dana and David had is just wonderful.
So many great Lorne quotes here!
Documentary on Jim Downey?!!!! I'm really excited for that because between himself, Smigel and Franken, Downey's probably the most lauded writer on snl as told from my favorites more than anyone else. And as much as I perhaps equally love Smigel, conan and Franken etc. I know less about him. That sounds like it would be a hilarious documentary and from what I know all the best of snl of his era will show up to be apart of it! #jimdowney #documentary
I saw Dana Carvey on a comedy special on "ONTV" cable in the early 80s. I was around 12 years old. Dana did choppin' broccoli. Some comedy special from San Francisco with Bobby Slatton, I think.
Bobby Slayton
Welcome to the tube guys. Long time watcher, 1st time toober.
I love Ross Perot's, Dana Carvey's, "You can't douse the back of a burning skunk with your bottle of lighter fluid".
Its pretty obvious Mike ripped off Danas Lorne impression for the Dr. Evil character. He could have atleast let Dana play in the movie.
Dana loves to bring it back to himself.
2:00 - Who's he talking about?
Chris Katan
@@ghostofnorm420really? Which movie? What makes you say it's katan?
So who was the actor whose movie lost 30 million dollars?
Probably Kattan
@@robloxvids2233Spade said "pretty big star". I don't think Kattan ever rose to that level.
Best cast was early to mid nineties.
Yes
Its that thing where the impressions are spot on and you cant focus on the conversation 🤔
I still think Grumpy Old Man should be a movie, but that's just me because few characters on Saturday Night Live put me into fits of laughter like the Grumpy Old Man. I watch those videos about once a month just to keep me laughing.
Nice try Pistachio and Dickie, but passing Mike Myers off as Lorne Michaels? What do you take us for?
Nice inside joke!
So interesting to actually hear Lorne speak when all we've ever heard are impressions of him. And like Dana has said many, many times: often the best impressions are not those that only mimic, but they sort of become exaggerations of the voice itself. Dana's impression of George HW Bush mirrors his sound, but it goes beyond it, twists it, exaggerates it and makes it really, really funny. "Na ga do that." Same is true of Dana's impression of Lorne, which sounds something like him, but is more pretentious and exaggerated than his actual voice. That's the genius of Dana.
Conan’s got some money coming in? Did anyone else catch that?
These absolute clowns whining about a literal living legend eating chips on a podcast that he's doing the world a favor by being a guest on. I don't think I ever even saw an hour long interview of him ever. I really don't know the guy outside the stories and impressions every generation of cast members do of him. I found him really likable and unique. Even when it stared I thought, wtf he sounds like a normal guy sitting at a table and seeing a bag of hot cheetos and going "yeah, I'm going in!". Loved the ep, hope he comes back for more.
But I got the whole time I thought it was listening to Dr evil
sounds like Lorne was sponsored by Werther's Originals
I didn't even know this was a podcast!
My fave character of the last five years was Bowen Wang as excuse making Ice Berg That Sunk the Titanic. The iceberg made an EDM album. Hilarious ideas.
I miss Phil Hartman
I have to wait a week until pt. 2?!!!
Ohhh no. Y’all def did some talking over in this one as well!✌️🤣
Sign of a close trusting relationship though.💘👌👸
#Goals
That's Dana doing Lorne for sure. "nineteen seventy twooo"
I'd be happy to be a guest if you guys would like
Why would they have some random dude from the comments section on the podcast?🤔
Because why not
Yes. I am the production assistant. Just send $500 to our production team and we will interview you. @@NickSeips
I would be great at sketch improv comedy..
How do I start?
34 isn't terribly old is it?
Move to LA, New York, or Chicago, join a notable improv group, work hard, network, and schmooze.
Or, take the much easier way and start a YT channel and post a series of short clips showcasing your range of talent, and try to attract an audience.
If you truly have outstanding talent, the first option is better because of the networking and exposure opportunities. It's hard to get noticed on YT as there is so much content to compete with.
34 is not too old, but on the cusp, so get going soon. It's less painful to take a chance on something like this when you are young and ignorant, but if you have talent and determination, and refuse to give up, you may have a chance.
Ooh! I gotta hear this.
This is nuckin futs!
Brilliant man , I see why Dana is fond of Lorine ! David , can you please take this dictation , or write a book for us lol ! Just smacking your chops ! Great interview too ! Love you guys! I knew I didn't like toyota !
Lorne sounds way more relaxed than everyone portrays him
They always do. Important not to forget that 99% of impressions involve a certain degree of exaggeration, because otherwise they wouldn't be funny.
The Grand Poobah!
Carvey and Spade should co-host SNL. They could write a whole night of entertainment. No Ferrell, though. He's the best scene stealer. Plus, he got to deliver lines from a hot tub.
Lorne: "I don't think that got great laughs." #ouch
as the late, great Tom Petty used to sing.."and oh, the stories we could tell..." The mind reels at the things Michaels has seen the past half century...wont hold my breath to read them tho. He's always been one to keep his cards close to his chest..eh?
Part one of the FULL episode?
Explain to the folks at home
2:08 was that Norm macdonald he was talking about?
Ah nooooo
Chris Katan
So which Rob Schneider movie was David talking about?
It was his bit on snl. Copy machine
If he was talking movies than Duce Bigelow
With no video, it’s very possible that they are just pretending Lorne is on the show. We would never know.
Choppin' Broccoli is Elton John
Foreigner
Love show. Lets do a movie or show paramount plus is needing new content like crazy why not lorne, spade, dana team up write a show and or movie and star in it as well and just kill it be amazing show maybe dana can have a hit finally hahaha😅
Dana does Lorne like Dr. Evil Or Mike did it like that I should say.
I hear a lil Dr Evil (not a bad thing) in Dana's impression of Lorne. You guys rock. I'm loving all the podcasts but blowing off some responsibilities lol
Mike Meyer’s Dr Evil was derived from Dana’s Lorne.
That's where Myers got Dr. Evil from. Carvey's Lorne impression.
Was Dana Carvey saying he did a sketch on SNL where the record company told Paul McCartney he must die because his record sales would go up just like what happened to Jim Morrison and Jimmy Hendrix?
Not to McCartney, to his fictional character, Derek Stevens, who sings "Choppin' Broccoli."
Take an action movie and add humor, I'm in. So yeah, "looks like fun", works.
