    Robert, and many other people that over the years you'll recognize their names. And remember what they do.
    Are drivers that will put themselves in a position where the other driver has to back off, or they wreck.
    Now I think aggressive driving is perfectly fine, but it does require a certain amount of finesse, which in this case, Robert was severely lacking said finesse.

    Being able to look back at an incident to see what you could have done differently is a mindset that more people seem to need to have. Robert was on a mission and dint care who got in his way, he was racing dirty. When I'm involved in an incident I like to look it over and try and think about what I could have done differently in that situation to avoid the contact, Even when I have very little to do with it. It's a good habbit to have to always be looking and be aware of potential crashes coming.
    Robert seems like the kind of guy I would take a mental note of needing to be careful around him and be aware of how he races others.
    I may give a quick sorry on mic during the race. After reviewing the replay if I see I was more at fault then I originally thought I always try and send that drive a pm in race if they are still around or a PM on the forums to say I'm sorry, I screwed up.

      There’s a big difference. In regards to overtaking, Robert blipped the throttle and I’ve yet to see Dave step over that line. He’ll make the move on the last couple of laps, but he’ll do it while maintaining proper technique, if albeit in a more aggressive manner. This guy punched it knowing he was going to have an extra set of tires to help him make the corner and made the choice to do it with only a handful of laps completed. The guy didn’t want to have to take any time to earn the spot, so he took it. It’s a punk move. It’s just not at all the same thing as being aggressive.

    • @angryginger791
      @angryginger791 2 года назад +1

      @@keithk.3963 Exactly. You can be aggressive without being unsafe or disrespectful. To me, anyone who can't overtake without contact, squeezing someone out, blocking, brake checking, dive-bombing etc. is just trying to make up for a lack of skill or racecraft. When I win, I want it to be inarguable. I want it to be because I was the better driver that day. Period. Not because I pulled some dirty shit that will have others putting a target on my back.

    Dave, you're a class act (I would've lost my $h1t). This is the main reason I stay away from official server racers, especially considering the fact I'm a lower level iR guy. Considering this was not a "one off" since he did the same thing to the other driver earlier in the race, I hope you filed a protest to mark his record for the behavior. I know most people despise filing protests, but if it is never noted on the driver's record, it never happened. And the protest system is there to keep "good order" on the track.
    On a side note, iRacing physics with the car losing complete traction and going slideways on such a little tap is a completely different subject up for debate. IMO ACC has a more realistic physics system in play.

    I think you're a shrewd judge of character and fairness. Like the Brazil incident, which this resembles, I'd agree with you, there just seems to be a lack of respect.
    I'm surprised he didn't relinquish the position. There's a certain beauty to clean overtaking, and a certain disdain for the opposite - I just don't see what satisfaction
    is gained from a 'win at all costs' approach. Ultimately, a great 3 way battle was spoilt. That all said, a feisty Dave is an entertaining Dave!

I did one league race with them and it became immediately apparent that slamming doors, divebombs, and extremely aggressive moves seemed to be the only way to pass. The only other way being getting lucky and waiting for them to make a mistake. Very rare to actually get a move in, not enough power, not enough front traction, and not enough speed (on most tracks) to get deep into draft and use that. Definitely not my cup of tea.

  • @robertc869

    Nice video, good content as ever Dave. Good stuff.
    Clearly there are some salty competitors with disparaging comments below. Likely they’ve never raced me and this is only a consequence of landing on most of the top split streams (so they’ve a valid opinion .. )
    The shift up and engine revs discussed by you in the video. As I dart to the left the shift to 4th gear does not register and the car bounces on the limiter (which you can clearly hear in the video) then I pull 4th and shift down to third (the spike in revs is the auto blip the TCR uses). There is no press of the throttle to question my motive. Missing the shift is what loses my momentum to make the move as intended. Unfortunately the commitment was already made. The NetCode is what makes this look dramatic. I make the apex without issue. We would bang doors yes, but I know you’ve no problem with that. If you don’t half spin we’re less concerned. My apology was genuine without caveats; it was my mistake exacerbated dramatically by NetCode.
    In referencing your Interlagos move (which I mentioned in jest, and I made a point to you that it was in good humour) where you punt a competitor and he similarly only half defends. The incidents are different in execution, sure. You brake and then reduce the brake pressure knowingly to get your car in a position to cause the opponent to make ‘a decision’ - any different? I have no problem with the intention of that move either. He could’ve turned out to avoid the collision but didn’t.
    We’re opponents. It’s not always going to be fairy floss and lollipops.
    Anyway, all the best we have many races and an incident now and then is normal (not that we have had many, if any at all) … great video nice analysis. I always look forward to them. Being apart of them is nice maybe for a race long battle next time. Cheers 🍻

    A few races with the masses on GT7 would toughen the skin a bit. Now that ‘racing’ gets filthy. with similar tactics of just nudging the front bumper to the rear quarter sending you off. Eventually you jump out of the way to protect your race which just isn’t right. No matter what, if I make a mistake and compromise someone’s race. I wait for them to re-pass. Racing is nothing without respect.

    At the end, in the head on replay showing Robert going up your inside, I see that Dan's car is making the full normal sweep on the outside of that corner. You, however, we're defending, turning in early, which in presume Robert was not expecting and therefore hit you. I don't think he had time to back out. But he still should have apologized at the time .

    People play to much GT 7 and bring it to iRacing. They learn to tap the back of cars to turn them without them getting incident points. I just had a month trying to get my A Class licence back which today I was again successful at achieving.

    Sorry Dave, I disagree. Firstly, I am a massive fan of yours. You have a tendency to move over in heavy braking areas. As you know, when you are in a braking area, you cant change lines. The lap before you had the inside line into the hairpin and Dan was on the outside, you moved over to squeeze him. It was the same with Robert. You took the outside line in the braking area and began turning in, you would never make the apex with that line, you turned in too early. I think Robert saw a hole and gave the throttle a blip to put his nose there. He didn't change lines at all.

    • @davecamyt
      @davecamyt  2 года назад

      I have to turn in at some point. Accelerating in the braking zone to stick your nose in, well it's dumb 😳

    Robert proved in one race it wasn’t an isolated incident. He obviously has no issue with bullying his way through a corner, there has to be consequences for these unnecessary and completely avoidable incidents. Instead of being patient while using skill drivers like that rely on brute force due to lack of one or both traits, or maybe he’s just an asshole. Either way Robert gets a 👎 with heavy disappointment, BTW if you can’t pass without hitting or forcing the other car of the track , you shouldn’t be passing , common sense goes a long way
