I was about to say the same thing about the internet. I've traveled a bit and I can say that the 4G in Morocco is quite good you can even get data in the middle of nowhere. The problem is the type of accommodations you have been at. In the medinas the fiber is almost nowhere to be seen and it's quite normal they have to dig underneath the old structures which takes time. The data on the other hand is there but because the density of the population in the Medina, the buildings being stuck together, and the lack of towers (because of the space issue) makes it difficult to find a strong signal especially at night.
Other than that alot of people have fiber which is extremely fast and as a digital nomad (now established in Morocco for a few years) I can work from cafes and even the beach in taghazout.
For the shitty hustlers part, I would say that I do understand about 10% of them because it has been tough this past couple of years, but for the 90% of them they deserve to be jailed because they're just after that quick buck and you'll see them in Egypt too. Some people are finding ways to offer a service in exchange of money as a food guide or a tour guide etc.. but those shitheads makes hard even for the honest people. The government used to punish them but now after two years of strict covid lockdown they're turning a blind eye for the moment. Which socks.

If you are visiting a major city in Morocco I would recommend a guide or a friend or a friend of friend... someone you trust (nothing bad will happen but you will be uncomfortable and have a bad experience).
If you are visiting small cities and rural areas, trust people 100% ! They might invite you for dinner and prepare a feast even if they don't have the means.

As a Moroccan, ever since Marrakech made it to international status as a top tourist destination, it kind of ruined it for everyone. When top travel blogs started their pump campaign of the city, it signaled the start of the fall from grace. It’s now just a typical tourist trap. My family owns property in Marrakech that we hardly visit. Jamaa Lefna is just an open circus where everyone is screaming for money. The city lost its charm!

I would hope that nobody watching a youtube video is going to mistake us or any other RUclipsr for culinary masters. I also think some are missing the bigger picture of what we were saying. We also clearly stated in the video that we felt the Moroccan cuisine was extremely diverse with many great dishes that we preferred over a tagine.
Internet, cell data was not the only issue. We had wifi in Riads, AirBnb's and hotels that were all bad. In Rabat we supposedly had fibre internet that was also awful. There have been many comments from both foreigners and Moroccans suggesting that we simply had bad luck, and we are thinking they are correct. It is not the first country where we experienced bad internet, but it is the first country where we experienced it throughout the entire country which would lead one to believe that it is just bad everywhere.

Hello. You did a great job exploring the country, I really did like how you describe details and pros and cons. But sometimes the bad things that happened in your trip turn to be the best story to tell after the experience, it's boring to have everything everywhere evertime that (OK). this is why movies and documentary look for the surprises. Why? Because your viewers will love them. It's the charming parts and pieces of cakes that people miss and they will fellow your steps to explore them.... so always do not focus on good things, but bad moments will rise your vlogs up to the level...

I lived there for three years from 2013 to 2016 in Casa and Mara. Its not just Morocco its whole North Africa. North Africa is a really beautiful and warm, there is no question about that. However, yes... Social infrastructure and conservative religion etc is still rampant there. As well as it is poor. Moroccoans were always proud of their "tea"... With minth i remember..
Would i recommend ppl go there.... Hmm.. Yes and no. If you are interested and want to see old history and take part of really good ancient culture for sure by all means go there. The Hassan II Mosque is a sight to see and visit on the Atlantic in Casa. But for general life with the busses and and street life its horrible. Its a poor islamic country that still has ways to go.
But that is my experience. Yours might be different than mine. Go there yourself and find out. Live and let live.

The wifi was excellent in the Riad that I always stay in de middle of the Medina in Marrakech! There was a film and music festival around late May so they had these huge stalls in the Jenma El Fna square and it was the best food ever!! I don’t really talk to people there after my first time and first day there, I got stalked and harassed by people trying to sell me things, but as an African, I know how to deal with them! I just simply ignore them and give them down looks and they eventually leave me alone!! And I travel solo! The henna ladies tried to charge me €100 for it, I gave her €20 and left her screaming there!! But it’s still my favourite place ever

At no point in the video did we say that crime didn't exist elsewhere in the world(especially the US). We simply stated what our experience was within the Marrakech Medina during a few days of our stay there and how it was non stop. We even put the blame on ourselves for our reactions to that experience. Of course scams and hustles happen everywhere. Marrakech just happened to be magnified by how often it happened. Overall Morocco was an amazing country and we would love to return one day. We just know that if we want to do the Marrakech Medina again it would be with a local tour guide and not on our own.

Never had a problem at all with internet myself! The hassle is part of the fun. Give it them back, have a laugh with them, take the piss and they soon get off. If you look like a middle-class tourist couple you're gonna get hassle. If you look hassled they'll hassle you even more. The food's shit, so don't spend too much. If you get hassle to eat somewhere simply reply 'J'ai mangé' and they leave you be. They love English TV so talk about Only Fools and Horses and they buzz off it. Basically just enjoy it it 's just young lads trying to earn a dollar. That said, moroccans can have a somewhat short temper so be respectful and courteous at all times. But do remember the older generations are generally extremely warm and generous with their time.

I'm here in Chefchaouen now and i can't wait to get out. Anybody considering Morocco I'll point you to Google any of the articles about why ex-pats love Morocco. In those articles they'll give a long list of not minor reasons it sucks and you'll be left wondering what exactly is it they love?? I have very little good to say, the bad far outweighs the little good you'll find. Art and architecture underwhelming; food is almost entirely tajine and couscous; some nice people just like anywhere but a whole lot of unprofessionalism everywhere; dusty dirty streets stressing your breathing; and girls, you'll see in the articles the hints at the real possibility of harassment and rape (a friend of mine was grabbed by three "friendly" men and was only saved by some old lady who came out swinging a broom at them.) I've never encountered the amount of frustrations traveling as i have in a week of being here. I've spent months budget backpacking all around SE Asia and never encountered the kind of unprofessional uncaring just want your money attitude as I've seen in one week of being here

In Al Hoceima for example you have to try their fish food so delicious😍 People from there are very polite. Their mentality is different and the Rif region you recognize certain Spanish influences. Chefchaouen the blue city Martil Tetouan. Worth to visit those places because the Rif region is not a well-known touristic region because the majority of their own people live in West Europe in Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France.

    Dear pure detour,
First of all I want express my admiration for your work and videos , it was very plaisant to see our country from your perspective and you have shown a nice image of it .
Second thing , I want to thank you for your honest opinion about your experience in Morocco , despite what you have said about Tajin , but that stays your opinion and your taste even if we disagree with you 😄.
The only thing I didn't like in the video is when you said " if you come to Morocco as digital nomad, rethink of that totally unworth it " . You could have rephrase that sentence like saying " from our own experience we faced a bad internet " without telling people not to come if they are digital nomad because that is a misleading information, we know that you mean no harm , but I'm sorry I see that you slipped in that part 😅.
In the end we are happy for your visit and we hope to see you sometime soon , good luck ♥️
