  • Essaouira Morocco - After the craziness of Marrakech we were looking forward to our next stop... Essaouira Morocco! We're spending a month in Morocco's Windy City and here's our first glimpse of Essaouira. We walk the picturesque city walls, stroll through the Essaouira medina, get our first impressions of the beach and have a delicious snack of avocado juice.
    Essaouira is a very welcome change of pace. The quieter, calmer town on Morocco's windy Atlantic coast is know to be a draw for surfers, kite surfers and hippies (Jimi Hendrix apparently loved it here.) A wonderful place to enjoy the colourful Moroccan medinas without the hustle and bustle of the larger cities. We can see why many people choose to retire here or stay for a while.

      Hi, thanks so much! Essaouira made a big impression on us, I hope you love it there as much as we did! If you're going, check out our Airbnb tour we just released, such great options there for really reasonable prices. We have noticed a way different vibe in the smaller towns than in the cities here in Morocco (like everywhere else I guess) and have found that the Moroccan people are very kind and welcoming to travellers. A few bad apples in Marrakech kind of got us off on the wrong foot, but since then it's been nothing but warm and hospitable Moroccan welcomes.

      @@PureDetour I guess you Hollywood people need some action in life right? Don’t complain about things being staged and stuff when you guys are masters at staging things that have a massive impact on the rest of the world. It’s a third world country where people try anything to earn a bit of money, don’t get me wrong, dishonesty and unfairness is always wrong, but what were you expecting in a country with a lot of poverty. Don’t act as stupid tourists, show understanding and neglect the things that you dislike. Adios gringos!

    Thanks again for the informative video...we have Morocco on our list of places to visit but we were definitely unsure about Marrakech , a little hustle is always to be expected in tourist destinations we experienced it in Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam but it wasn't obtrusive in the least ...any plans on visiting Rabat ?

    • @PureDetour
      @PureDetour  2 года назад +1

      Hi Rob! We’ve travelled to many of those places and of course expect the hustle but this was a whole other level. To be fair though we recently spent another day and night in Marrakech, stayed outside the Medina, and had a very different experience. The Medina is very cool and exhilarating but if you’re filming it’s not great and I wouldn’t recommend being out late in there unless you’re at the square. And yes, quite a few cities remain on the Morocco itinerary!

    Interesting I live here in Essaouria and if the locals see a European or North American they simply think you have excess cash which compared to them will be true. Loads of barbers in Essaouira but you don’t look like you really need a haircut and could wait till next year.

    It’s unfortunate that tourists don’t get to meet the locals living in Marrakech. They only meet the low class coming from villages to make money in Marrakech like taxi drivers, fake guides, hasslers, henna artists, snake charmers, etc...
    The locals are hard working people taking care of their families. The ones you are meeting in the Medina are there to trick you. You must be smarter and don’t let anyone make you feel bad. Just say thank you with confidence.
    Enjoy the journey🙏❤️

      Hi there! I am glad to hear that.
      Marrakech is not a pleasant walking city anymore. I live in Los Angeles and it is the same issue. In the United States 🇺🇸 distances to go from your house to the market are long and in Morocco 🇲🇦 people are lazy and they drive everywhere to go to work , market... I think that there are too many cars 🚗 in the city taxis included...
      By the way you can take buses instead of taxis. You will save money and they are quite comfortable.
      Enjoy 😉

    Morocco is a North African country and its people are North Africans, which means they are Imazighen (Berber people). The Arabs who came to Morocco and the rest of North Africa were a few thousand Arabs who settled between tens of millions of Berber people who were there for thousands of years already. These Arabs settled and mixed with the North Africans, but it’s like putting a pinch of salt in a pool of water, that’s how little the group of Arabs was. You won’t find a lot of Arabic traces back in the Moroccan’s people’s DNA. Most don’t even seem to have a percentage of it. The food, the dresses, the architecture, it’s all Moroccan and so different than the Middle Eastern.

    in touristic cities avoid people who approach you and offer their help to show you around thé town or take you somewhere to buy souvenirs, Just kindly say no to these people they're unthrustworthy, they're swindlers. ONE more thing learn to haggle about prices because traditional items or spices are sold to tourists three times their real price

    Yes but don't forget some in medina are from black immigrants ancestry and recent black immigrants as this royal dynasty never stopped importing them... real Moroccans are farmers who never charge anything for Europeans for hospitality provided Europeans are peaceful nor those Moroccan middle class and upward... Marrakech situation has not changed anything since post French invasion colonial time... total fragmentation....
